Arghhh iTunes 10 takes 24 hours to open!!

Can anyone help?? It just says iTunes 10 is 'not responding' when I try to open it, but if I leave it running and come back the next day it does eventually open. My library is on an external drive, which I gather from other posts may be an issue. I'm not very technical so a lot of the stuff on these forums is beyond my understanding - can anyone help in simple terms?? Apple, how about you responding to all these problems with the upgrade- what a total nightmare!!

I found that the TSLicense plugin was causing the problem.
From the log:
PlugIn Path: /Library/Frameworks/TSLicense.framework/Versions/A/TSLicense
PlugIn Identifier: net.telestream.license
This pIugin is installed with the Flip4Mac Windows Media Components. I solved the problem by uninstalling the WM Components via the uninstaller at /Applications/Flip4Mac/Flip4Mac WMV Uninstaller.pkg, after which iTunes opens successfully.
if neither helps, try this:
quit iTunes. move the following file to the desktop: <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/library/preferences/com.apple.iTunes.plist
fire up iTunes (which will create a new .plist file). if it works now you can trash the plist file you moved to the desktop.

  • Mail version 1.3.11 takes an hour to open mail program

    I'm running MAIL version 1.3.11 on MAC version 10.3.9, my processor is 1.25 GHz, Power PC G4 and memory is 256 MB DDR SDRAM.
    I attached a file to an email and sent it. My mail program became unresponsive after sending this email. It had the spinning wheel that shows the mac is "thinking/doing" something. I finally shut down my computer with the power switch b/c I was not aware of the FORCE QUIT option at that time. The email that I sent was received by the recipient. The Mail program continues to be VERY slow and will receive emails, but not send emails. If I try to send an email the Mail program locks up and I have to force quit. When I start the program, it takes approximately one hour to open the Mail program! It is so bad that I use my ISP website to check, send and receive emails, which is a pain b/c none of my email addresses are in this address book.
    Is there a way to uninstall the mail program and reinstall it? Please help! Thanks so much!

    Hi teamstamper. Sorry you post has been hanging fire.
    How large are your Mailboxes, as too large can cause problems in general? Click on the *In box* and read the size below the Mail toolbar. If it is several hundred megabytes that could be a concern.
    A shortcut you could try is, with Mail closed, in Finder, in your Home account, go to
    ~/Library/Mail/Mailboxes
    where you will see the Outbox.mbox
    and drag that to the trash.
    Then see if Mail is more responsive.

  • Premiere Pro CC project takes 1 hour to open !

    Hi everybody,
    After a Premiere Pro CC 7.1 crash, I tried to reopen my last project and the loading of this project took 1 hour to reopen normally. The yellow loading progression bar is freezing approximatively at 30 % of full load. 1 hour later, my project is open without any problems. If i save the project again, quit Premiere and reopen my project, it loads in a few seconds...
    I tried many things before waiting the hour :
    Kill Premiere during the load, reopen a backup of my project : same problem > load is very long and seems to be frozen
    Shutdown computer and restart then reload the project : same problem > load is very long and seems to be frozen
    Open the crashed project in another computer (Mac) without the media attached : same problem > load is very long and seems to be frozen
    Delete all the media cache folder and empy trash.
    This happend several times on a big project (lots of media, multi cameras) usually after many CTRL-Z action that are (I think...) too fast.
    My footage are clean and on a Raid 0 disk
    It's not really dramatic but when it happens when a director is arround me, and we spend 1 hour to wait for a simple project load... that's really not cool :-/
    Anyone got an idea ?
    My configuration : Windows 8.1, Premiere Pro CC 7.1, 32 GB Ram, Bi Intel Xeon E5-2630 2.3 GHz

    You can try one thing, try to import whole project in After Effects, then export that as as new premiere pro project..
    When I import the project in After Effects, same thing : the load is very long ! ...
    one more thing you can try, open the project inthe premiere pro and export as FCP XML.
    Now open a new premiere pro blank project, import FCP xml file in the premiere pro.
    I can't do that when it bugs because to export as FCP XML, I have to load the original project... and that's the problem ! I tried to unzip the PRPROJ file (that's a Gzip file...) and parse de XML in it with and xml validator. Everything seems to be ok in my project. So I think the problem comes from the medias or the database ? ... But that's completely weird that when I try to open it on another computer (without the medias, with another database) I've got the exact same problem... So It's really the project that is corrupted.
    Next time it will bug (sure it will...) this is what I'll do :
    Copy my crashed project on desktop and keep it. After 1 hour of opening, I'll save the project with a new name and compare de 2 file size. Just to confirm that my crashed project and my good project are different. If they have the same size, maybe It's more Premiere than the project itself. If they are different, I'll compare them to see what changed between the crashed and the good one.
    Writing in this forum I'm thinking about a new lead : Since PRPRO CC, the prproj files are gzip files (that's why the file size are so small compared to old version). So when PRPRO crash, maybe it corrupt the gzip compression of the project ? That's weird because a software like winrar can unzip the crashed project a reveal the xml file in it. So I'll try to extract the XML file in the crashed project and re-gzip it and rename it .prproj ?
    Feel free to write some ideas or tests that could help me to understand this bug and how to resolve or quickly repair the damaged caused...

    I'm using the Mac version of DreamWeaver. I just updated from
    CS3 to CS4. With CS3, I would occasionally have to wait about an

    installed CS4, I'm having this problem every time I try to open it.
    The program is just stuck. If I open up the "Force Quit
    Application" box, I can see that Dreamweaver is alternating back
    and forth between "program not responding."

    Does your Mac meet the minimum system requirements specified

    The minimum RAM is listed as 512MB, but I would suggest more
    than that.
    Double it once or twice :)
    Is your Site local folder on a network drive? Local folders
    are
    significantly faster on local hard drives.

  • Accidentally merged all records into one contact, takes 12 hours to open

    Hope someone can help me out
    I accidentally hit a wrong key when experimenting with merge and the result seems to be that I have moved all of my 2000 ish contacts into a single contact.
    When I try to open address book, it opens up a screen with the one contact listed and a huge column of numbers and all other name, address, title company mobile etc all in one long column of information.
    I would delete it, but the file hasn't yet fully opened - the wheel thing is still spinning (after over 12 hours - I think it will eventually finish, because I actually did this sometime ago and copied and pasted the entire column into excel in the hope I might be able to line up all the contact info - not a chance!
    I just want to get rid of the address file and start again as I have no hope of recovering the data
    Any ideas how best to go about this - I want to start afresh and sync address book with my new iPhone

    You have an iPhone with a "working" (i.e., not hosed) address book?
    Address Book stuff is in your User Library folder. It's actual location was changed from Tiger to Leopard so I don't remember where exactly it was. Under Leopard, it would be in your User Library Application Support folder. I'm thinking in Tiger it was not nested as deep, it was just in your User Library folder. It's clearly labeled as "AddressBook" or "Address Book" though. So if you can resync from elsewhere (like from your iPhone), just trash that folder. Also look in your User Library Preferences folder and anything in there that has "AddressBook" in it (e.g., com.apple.addressbook.plist), trash that, too. I wouldn't empty the trash until you successfully resynced your computer to your iPhone's address book and successfully reopened Address Book and verified that everything looks okay...you can always move the stuff from the trash back to its original location if stuff didn't work as planned. If there is a way to make a backup copy of your iPhone stuff, I would do that in case something bad happened (like your iPhone resynced to your "empty" computer, rather than your computer resyncing to your iPhone).

    I bought 2 movies yesterday at aproxamatley 10:30pm. It is now 10:30 pm again (24 hours later) and neither of them is halfway done! What gives? I bought a movie before and it only took 20 minutes to download...I dont uderstand what is wrong.

    I have a similar problem. I tried to buy season one of a tv series with 9 episodes last night. 8 of the 9 completed overnight after stalling a few times, but 1 won't download at all. if this is the performance to be expected, i won't be buying anymore!

    Basic troubleshooting steps clearly outlined in the User Guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new device.
    If you have gone through ALL the above steps and are still having problems, then you'll need to bring your phone into Apple for evaluation.

The software update is also taking forever on iPod, it says it will take 49 hours. Should it take that long? I have tried resetting, turning on and off, making date and time right etc. the first day we got the iPod touch the app store worked but not since.

  • Apple TV (Gen 2&3) takes several hours to load a movie from the iTunes Library

    I know this had been discussed before, but a went through all posts that I could find and never found a solution.  I will list below everything I have tried and if anyone else has ANY ideas I would be extremely greatful to hear them!  To reiterate the issue any time I try to play a movie from MY iTunes library it takes several hours before it will even start playing.  Now, to what I have already tried...
    1.  I cycled my router first and after that didn't work I completely took it back to default settings.  My router is an Apple Airport Extreme
    2.  I completely uninstalled iTunes and then reinstalled it with full library, and then I also tried with just one movie in my library that I know used to work.  My home computer is a Windows 7 PC.
    3.  I restarted my Apple TV, and also bought a Gen. 3 Apple TV and tried it new out of the box.
    4.  I have tried to stream on both WiFi and hooked up to an Ethernet Cable.
    5.  I have tried with all firewalls turned off on the PC and router.
    6.  I have ended home sharing on all devices and restarted home sharing on just the Apple TV and PC.
    7.  I have turned off all devices using WiFi in the home.
    That is all I can think of off hand so if you have any other ideas please do not hesitate to chime in so I can try something else. Do know that my Apple TV used to not have any issues and worked great since I irst purchased the Gen. 1 Apple TV.

    I have the same problem.  I just purchased the Apple TV software 5.0.  Apple TV is working other than downloading movies.  I have been trying to download one movie for the past two days.  I have a wireless network, using AT&T DSL.  I have tested the connection using the test option in the Settings area of the Apple TV, which passes. 
    I have also tried rebooting my Apple Tv and turned off all other wireless options.  I am able to download Netflix movies using the PS3 without a problem, why not on my Apple TV.  I hope I didn't just purchase this device to stream music and photos. 
    I hope someone has a solution to this problem. 
    By the way I just upgraded my modem and router (Airport Extreme).

  • I plugged my ipod touch into my laptop and started to down load an (1) upgrade.  But Itunes says that the upgrade will take two hours.  I started the down load and it started and stoped and eventualy never complerted the down load.  How can I fix this ?

    I plugged my Ipod touch into my Dell laptop and went to Itunes.  Itunes told me I should down load an upgrade, so I did.  Itunes said the down load would take two hours.  I started the down load, but after two + hours (&longer) , after several starts and stops the down load never completed. 
    I recently got a (fake anti virus) virus and it damaged my computer.  I got it fixed and reinstalled the software and it appears to be working correctly. Could this be the part of the problem ?
    Would it help if I reloaded the Itunes (off an external HD) or downloaded it again from Itunes ?

    I doubt it.  For my updates, it has typically taken me many tries/retries.  Like for you, the download would stop.  and I would have to restart from the beginning.  If you get a network timed out error try disabling the security software on your computer.

    Apple's official advice is here... HT2905: How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls.
    Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group of identical tracks to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin. This can happen, for example, if you start iTunes with a disconnected external drive, then connect it, reimport from your media folder, then restart iTunes.
    Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background. Please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping, whether you do so by hand or using my script, in case something goes wrong.

    Same here. The funny thing is, I also have Airfoil that works fine -- I set the input as System Audio and it plays through the Airport Express just fine, so the "network" is working just fine, it is iTunes that seems to have the problem.

    There's no fixed time. If it's been accepted - presumably you've been given a URL? - it should appear reasonably soon. However it can dake some days before it turns up in the search results. The podcast image, if you have one, may also take some days to appear.
