Artifacts Appearing when manually editing basic data

Good Afternoon,
I'm building a basic data entry/storage app  in APEX 4.2.
After upload when my users go to edit data they randomly get artifacts in the text fields :

the data is fine in the database, and it only appears when we try to manually edit.
It will display perfectly until an edit is attempted

  • Huge, crazy artifacts appear when using filters. Help?

For some reason, in a particular file I'm using, whenever I use a filter, very strange artifacts appear. Here is an example of what I'm talking about:
The only things that SHOULD be visible are the words "Example of Issue" and the red lines. When I apply the Motion Blur filter, the yellow, pink, green, and blue artifacts appear. If I undo, the artifacts dissapear, but when I re-do, they will reappear (although they are in different places and look different each time). I can select and delete them like any other pixels.
Restarting Photoshop and re-opening the file doesn't fix the issue. This only happens with this specific psd. I'm using Photoshop CS5 on Mac OS 10.6.8. Does anyone know what's going on?

The file could be corrupt, but I'm not sure how that would lead to further corruption.
Do you have another computer handy that you could load that file on, and see if the problem follows the file?  (and if so, email ccox(at) adobe (dot) com to get me a copy of that file)
But that really looks like the sort of artifacts you get from bad RAM or a bad video card.

  • Video "jigsaw" artifacts appear when camera pans on burned DVDs

I've been pulling my hair out for days as I export endless new sequences at different settings and then burn DVDs, only to find that the problem does not go away. The issue is the infamous "jigsaw" artifact effect, or whatever you want to call it, meaning that when viewing the resulting DVDs, when the camera pans, images "tear" and kind of spazz out. This seems most noticeable when panning past straight vertical objects, but is not limited to only this circumstance. My suspicion is that this is all the result of an interlacing issue in iDVD, but I have certainly learned that I am capable of overlooking the obvious or being wrong. What I don't understand is that with all of us out there working on Avids and using iDVD, either there does not seem to be a unified ideal export setting that resolves this issue, or I am having a comparatively unique problem. The shame is that most of the DVDs are looking great, and it is only this one issue that is sabotaging completion of this project. I'm at my wits end, so any and all knowledgeable help is supremely appreciated. Help me keep my hair.
When viewing any of these exported clips within quicktime player, the jigsaw is not visible. But when viewing the burned DVDs on my Mac, the jigsaw is visible.
When viewing the burned DVDs on my Panasonic HDTV (TH-42PX75U) the jigsaw is visible. When viewing the burned DVDs on my Sony Trinitron Production monitor (non HD), the jigsaw is visible.
Avid Software: Avid Xpress DV 3.5.0
Editing system info: Mac G4 "Mirror door" model - Dual 1.2 Ghz PowerPC - memory 1024 MB
OS Software on Editing System - OS X version 10.2.3
Quicktime version on Editing system: QT version 6.3
Software used to burn DVDs: Idvd 8 version 7.0.1
Computer used to burn DVDs: MacBookPro3,1 - Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 GHz (codec downloaded from Avid and installed - prior post about video not displayed in QT exports was due to missing codec)
Quicktime version on Computer used to burn DVDs - QT Version 7.4 (92) (with Pro upgrade)
    DVD media used: TDK DVD-R 8X 4.7GB
Info on sequence I am burning - A 1 hour and 50 minute program of African wildlife footage all shot on regular mini DV tapes. Camera used was the Panasonic AGDVX100A on the 24 frame setting that does not require a software fix (the correction is done in camera). All the footage was digitized using this camera. When viewing any of these exports afterward within quicktime player, the "jigsaw" is not visible. It only becomes visible after burning them and then watching the dvd. All burns in iDVD 8 are using the "professional" burn mode.
Export settings from Avid and iDVD 8 result summary -
    1) Exported at "same as source" from Avid yields arguably the absolute worst result, as I rather suspected with the whole field / interlacing issue, but I was feeling hopeful.
    2) Trying to bypass Quicktime by using "dvstream" as the export setting also yields a very poor result. This jigsaw problem does not occur, but the resulting image is terrible. Very milky blacks, the compression is worse, as in much more noticeable, than any other export, and the image is soft and thin looking, rather anemic, and it ruins the visuals completely. What is a bit odd to me however is that I had been using dvstream to burn DVDs of other projects for years on prior versions of iDVD and it never seemed to be a problem. As I tried this one first, without having the Avid codec installed in my MacBook (which I use to burn as I can run iDVD8 on it, also meaning that trying quicktime reference is not an option, I must export, then move the completed export to my macbook pro), I am currently exporting it one more time to see if installation of the codec fixes the horrible compression and color result, but I am not hopeful at all.
    3) Tried using an Avid forum suggestion that recommended using 720 X 480 - crop/pad - RGB color levels - even (lower field first) - native dimension 720 x 480. No good.
    4) Another Avid forum suggestion to try the "Animation" setting for video
instead of "Avid DV" is not a viable option. The infamous "2 GB limit" message
comes up as the export nears completion and aborts. This message does not appear
with any other export setting. When cutting my sequence in half, the same problem occurs. Even if I could get it to work, the result would be useless if it meant I had to send people several DVDs of the program chopped up into little bits.
    5) Heres a summary of other export attempts all using Quicktime movie and "Avid DV" for video, keeping in mind the info I read about how at least one version of iDVD had the field order (ntsc vs pal)reversed a while back. I would expect that Apple has fixed this problem by now, but just in case...
    a) odd field - 720 x 486 - 601 - crop/pad - 4:3 Non-square
    b) odd field - 720 x 480 - 601 - crop/pad - 4:3 Non-square
    c) even field - 720 x 486 - 601 - crop/pad - 4:3 Non-square
    d) even field - 720 x 480 - - 601 - crop/pad - 4:3 Non-square
Suggestions to buy a different dvd burning program or new software are nice and all, but I simply cannot afford it. I also have a fear that if I were to try a different program that the same darn thing would happen, as no one seems to be able to say with 100% certainty that this specific problem would be fixed. The only thing that would be worse than my sense of hopelessness and helplessness at present would be spending more money and still not having this maddening issue be resolved.
Help... and thanks to any of you who take the time to read this epic length post and reply!

PROBLEM SOLVED! Thanks to having downloaded Toast 8, the dreaded interlacing has disappeared. The first test made me nervous. I exported from Avid using Sorenson and using the "automatic" settings for Toast's detection of fields etc. The DVD still had the jigsaw at the same spots, but it was not as pronounced as some of the tests with iDVD. I then exported "same as source" and used the advanced settings in Toast to tell it "lower field" and maxed the compression settings as much as I could without exceeding disc space. The DVD result is the best looking I've seen so far and all interlacing artifacts are gone! Thanks to Blackdog at the Avid Forum. I now know this interlacing problem was 100% the fault of iDVD 8 and will be using Toast from now on.

  • "artifacts" appear when converting PDF to CMYK

When using the Preflight "fixup" to convert a PDF to CMYK only (SWOP), I sometimes end up with jpeg-ish-looking artifacts being added around the edges of logos and in photos. I've been troubleshooting this for a while, changing settings and such, and I think I've determined that it happens with PDFs that have been generated using a lossy compression method. I have figured out a couple of workarounds, but since I process a lot of PDFs (sent to me by others) I'd really like to figure out a way to get the fixup to work when I "Analyze and fix"! Anyone have any ideas??
    -Jodie

Right, Jodie  . . . I may have a work around for you. Instead of running the preflight bit, use TOOLS, Action Wizard. I have attached an action which you must import using Edit Actions under the Action Wizard menu. Once you have imported the action called DAVID, you can choose to run it on a single pdf, or choose a folder of pdf's. You can edit the action and choose to save the converted pdf/s to another location or overwrite. All your users can import this action so you know that everyone is using the same format. This action checks and converts the pdf to CMYK and as a PDF/X-1A, which is a better format and embeds all fonts and extra bits and is better for a repro/print arena. I have tested it on the file you gave and no artefacts!!! If you want to know more on Action Wizard, go to this link.

  • No changes appear when batch editing Camera Raw Files and saving as jpegs

When I batch edit my raw files, including saving the file as a jpeg, from bridge or photoshop the resulting file saved never includes any changes I made in the Camera Raw editor. For example if I have lightened the photo by changing the exposure in Camera Raw as a saved jpeg after batching the file is still as dark as when originally shot. Is there some little box I forgot to check or something? Thanks!
    andy

I've seen something like this, but have not figured out why yet. In my situation I select a group of images in Bridge and go to Tools / Photoshop / Image Processor.
There I click the "open first image to apply settings" box.
    Save in Same Location
Save as JPEG, resize to fit (1200 pixels), Convert Profile to sRGB.
    No Action selected
    Include ICC Profile
Run it and in Camera Raw roll the saturation down to -100 (convert to b&W).
    Click "Open Image"
The process runs and the first image is converted to b&w, but the others are not.

  • Random artifacts appear when changing tabs

For some time, I've been getting occasional (though seemingly more and more frequent) weird artifacts on my browser when going to another tab. As you can see (outlined with red circles for visibility), the address bar changes to the other tab but the contents don't and when i move my cursor on the screen, the elements from the correct tab do load when touched by the cursor but the site doesn't show as it should until I select yet another tab and then the correct one again. I have hardware acceleration turned off, I also tried browsing in safe mode (with all add-ons turned off) but the same thing happens. What may be the problem?

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

  • Line In option does not appear when recording Edit Preferences Audio Hardware Default Input

    Dear friends
Please can you help me with the subject matter above.
I have a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit, no conflicts in device manager, latest Realtek HD and NVIDIA drivers, Audio working fine in playback, all video working fine in playback. Prior to the clean rebuild of machine the option existed and worked well.
    Realtek mic option works fine.
    Thanks
    Kappa

    That'll be a Windows issue.
Try going to the Windows audio control panel and select the "Recording Devices" tab.
If Line in shows as an option, click on it and set it as the default input.
If it doesn't show, RIGHT click on the white area of the Recording Devices menu (i.e. away from any existing options) and make sure the "Display Disabled Devices" and "Display Unused Devices" options both have ticks beside them.  Once you've done this, if the Line In has appeared again set it as default.
If Line in doesn't appear on your Windows Audio panel, then I fear you'll have to contact Realtek and see what's going on.  I said "I fear" because, in my experience, they don't care a jot about customer service.
The above assumes you actually have a specific Line In socket.  If it's one of the sort where there's a single socket that switches between Mic and Line depending what's plugged in, you may need to go straight to Realtek.
In the longer term you should really consider an external USB audio interface.  Even the cheapest will knock the quality of the Realtek into a cocked hat and also allow you to use ASIO drivers which will cut latency.

  • Is it possible to manually edit data in EDQ?

Hello - I'm new to EDQ.
Trying to figure out if, after running rules/processes in EDQ, I can manually edit/alter data in the EDQ tool.
Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

    Hi,
Editing data is very much a last resort and is not the way that we expect remediation to work in EDQ.
Normally Case Management is set up and configured in such a way to allow data stewards to select specific, targeted, remediation actions. The actions are normally different depending on the type of exception, and are actions that are already 'known' to EDQ and built-in to the configuration of the data cleansing processes.
For example, in addition to the ability to mark an exception as ‘To be fixed at source’, with the data re-checked the next time it comes through, it is possible to capture remediative choices such as:
For a Boolean field, the option to select the correct value as one of the states
For a field that should conform to a fixed list, the option to select a valid value from a list of template comments
For a URL field with an invalid value, the option to supply the correct value as a comment
For a Telephone Number field that is too long, the option to tell EDQ to abbreviate the field (remove whitespace etc.) or to truncate the field
    …and many more
This normally uses reception rules and conditional transitions in Case Management to offer targeted remediations depending on the nature of the exception.
The entered fixes are added in Case Management and then pulled back into EDQ (via the System Information Data Store, and appropriate lookups) so that they can be applied to records as remediations before the records are re-checked.
So although the experience is not ‘editing the data’, it is in fact more guided to ensure that data stewards select a correct remediation for a specific data issue.
In all cases, if the fix is confirmed and the alert is ‘cleared’, the workflow is normally configured such that the state of the alert changes from ‘Fix Pending’ to ‘Fix Confirmed’, and if the fix is not confirmed (for example an entered URL is still invalid, or a phone number still too long after abbreviation), the alert is automatically reopened.
All of this is driven by configuration of Case Management and EDQ. It can be a little tricky to set this up, but it is perfectly possible to do, and we have customers doing exactly this kind of thing with their Data Stewards today.
    Regards,
    Mike

  • New address book fields don't appear when importing CSV file

I've added two new fields to the Address Book template. The new fields appear when manually entering data for a new Card, but not when importing a CSV file. There's a drop down menu of field names for the import process but it does not include the new fields. Is there a way to modify this menu?

I would suggest looking at the Basic Troubleshooting steps at the following link:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805
Specifically, for your Question #1 above, I would suggest the First Aid procedure and running the 'Repair Database' option listed in the linked page.
Note - I strongly suggest not running the 'Rebuild Database' option unless all other troubleshooting steps have been exhausted. This is also a caution given by Apple.
For your Question #2, if the repair database does not fix that one, then lower on the linked page you will find the procedure for 'Delete the user preferences' which has sorted the issue for me in the past. FWIW, I suspect that the OS X indexing (possibly for Spotlight) may have something to do with this issue.
As I think you suspect, you should be able to see the photos specific to each Project when you select it one in the library inspector (whether in the folder or not).
Note - the behavior of seeing all photos from all projects in a folder is correct.

  • Is there a way to manually custom-edit the "Date created" and "Date modified" attributes of files in Mac OS 10.6?

In "List View" in a Finder window, among the many column options are "Date created" and "Date modified." In "View Options" (command-J) for any folder, one can add these columns, along with the standard ones "Size," "Kind," "Label," etc.
A user can alter a file's name, and a file's "label" (i.e. its color). On the other hand, a user can NOT arbitrarily edit/alter a file's official "size" -- other than by physically altering the contents of the file itself, obviously.
But what about a file's "Date created" and "Date modified"? Can either of those be manually edited/changed, just as a file's name can be changed -- or is a file's creation-date an immutable attribute beyond the editorial reach of the user, just as a file's "size" is?
And yes, a person can "alter" a file's "Date modified" by simply modifying the file, which would change its "Date modified" to be the moment it was last altered (i.e. right now). But (and here's the key question) can a user somehow get inside a file's defining attributes and arbitrarily change a file's modification date to be at any desired point in the past that's AFTER its creation date and BEFORE the present moment? Or will so doing cause the operating system to blow a gasket?
If it is possible to arbitrarily manually alter a file's creation date or modification date, how would it be done (in 10.6)? And if it is NOT possible, then why not?

    sanjempet --
    Whew, that's a relief!
But as for your workaround solution: All it will achieve is altering the created and modified dates to RIGHT NOW. What I'm looking to do is to alter the modification/creation dates to some point in the past.
I'm not doing this for any nefarious reason. I just like to organize my work files chronologically according to when each project was initiated, but sometimes I forget to gather the disparate documents all into one folder right at the beginning, and as a result, sometimes after I finish a job, I will create a new folder to permanently house all the files in an old project, and when that folder is places in a bigger "completed projects" folder and then is organized by "Date created" or "Date modified" in list view, it is out-of-order chronologically because the creation and modification dates of that particular project folder reflect when the folder was created (i.e. today), and not when the files inside the folder were created (i.e. weeks or months ago).
The simplest solution would simply to be able to back-date the folder's creation or modification date to match the date that the project actually started!

  • Calculated Value in Infopath List Form only appears when editing.

I have a InfoPath 2010 List Form running against SharePoint 2010 Enterprise. I've created a calculated value that returns data from a secondary list.  The returned value is correct but isn't being displayed in the display form.  It only appears
    when I click Edit.  Help!?!

    Hi dshupe,
According to your description, my understanding is that you were using a Calculated Value control in InfoPath, and the contorl could not display in the list display form.
I reproduced this issue, and it seem to be impossible to display the control in display form.
For implementing your requirement, you can add a textbox control, and set default value using calculated  value(formula) for the textbox control, then set the control read-only. After that, the textbox control can not only work as well as a Calculated
Value control, but also display in display form.
    I hope this helps.
