[AS] Saving a file without creating an idlk file

Hi there,
I have an AppleScript that open an InDesign template (indt), import a XML file and then save the document to another folder than the one where the XML file and the template are living.
The problem, and I don't see how to resolve it, is that InDesign always create a lock file (idlk) with the new document and I don't seem to find a way to close the new document.
Here's the script:
Translating:
chemin_fichier_xml                           == path_to_xml_file
chemin_gabarit_indesign                   == path_to_indesign_template
chemin_nouveau_fichier_indesign      == path_to_new_indesign_file
on genere_fichier_indesign(chemin_fichier_xml, chemin_gabarit_indesign, chemin_nouveau_fichier_indesign)
tell application "Adobe InDesign CS4"
set ce_document to open chemin_gabarit_indesign without showing window
tell ce_document
tell XML import preferences
set import style to merge import
set repeat text elements to true
set import text into tables to true
set import CALS tables to true
end tell
import XML from chemin_fichier_xml
set le_nouveau_document to chemin_nouveau_fichier_indesign
tell ce_document to save to le_nouveau_document with force save
(* this will generate an error *)
-- try
-- close ce_document saving no
-- close le_nouveau_document saving yes
-- end try
end tell
end tell
end genere_fichier_indesign
TIA
Cheers

Hello,
Thanks for replying.
I still get an idlk file and an error.
--> Adobe InDesign CS4 got an error: Can’t get document 1 of document "Sans titre-3"
I tried other variation:
close file le_nouveau_document saving no
--> Can’t get file "HD:Users:stereo:Applications:Automatisation Téléhoraires:Dossiers:InDesign - À valider:StThomasTimesJournal_20100131_1009_1_Quot.indd" of document "Sans titre-2".
close documents saving no
-->  Can’t get every document of document "Sans titre-3"
I'm on Snow Leopard 10.6.2 and use ID CS4 v6
Cheers

  • Saving tiff or jpg files within a single, existing psd file without creating new files

         Hi, I just bought CS5 and I wonder if it is possible to save multiple images that are created within a single psd file in jpg or other image file formats without creating new psd files, but rather saving them as "embedded" within the single psd file in whih they are created. For example, one could select a portion of an image that one has created, and save just that selection as a jpg without leaving the existing psd file, and after that, one could select another portion of the same image and save it as a tiff, etc. Is this possible?
    Much thanks.

    No and Yes!
    You can do much of what you want, but not exactly as you described it.  You can certainly make multiple selections and have them saved in the psd file. You can also save jpg version of those selections, but you have to do a little extra work.
    Lets say, by way of example, you have an image and you want to make three different selections within that image, save each selection as a jpeg, and save those selections along with the full image as a psd file. You can do the following, which is just one way of several to proceed, with your image opened.
    1. Make selection 1, hit Ctrl+J to jump that selection to a new layer
    2. Make selection 2, hit Ctrl+J to jump that selection to a new layer
    3. Make selection 3, hit Ctrl+J to jump that selection to a new layer
    4. Alt click on the layer with selection 1. This makes only that layer visible.
    5. Click on Layer > Duplicate Layer > destination New > give it a name
    6. This creates a new (temporary document). Open it.
         click Image > Trim > transparent pixels
         click Save for Web & Devces, select your parameters and save your jpeg
         Close and discard this temporary file.
    7. Repeat steps 4,5 & 6 for selection 2 & selection 3
    8. Save your psd file
    You now have three jpegs and a psd file with all the information to create or modify the original selections

  • When saving a File OS Is Creating Multiple Folders With The Same File Name

    Not sure what I changed but, now when I save a any file (ppt. word, Keynote,Pages e.g.,) to the desktop or any other location the OS will also create multiple file folders with the same file name as the file I'm saving. Inside the folders are what appears to be files locating the saved files. What can I do to fix this problem?
    I'm using the 10.7.2 version
    MacBook Pro

    It looks like a finder bug. To replicate, I surf to any website, I right-click on a jpg image, select "Save Image As" and in the window that pops up I type in the filename "000.jpg", I select the folder Pictures, and click on Save.
    BTW, I don't know why, but the file was saved only as "000" without the file extension ".jpg". Does anybody know why?
    the extension is simply hidden. go to the get info panel for the file and uncheck the option to hide the extension.
    Then I surf to another image, and again I save it as "000.jpg" and now it asks me if I want to replace the existing filename, although the existing one is "000" and I try to save as "000.jpg", so I say yes, and then magically the file is saved with the full filename including the extension "000.jpg"
    When I did it a couple of times, always saving image as "000.jpg" from various sources, I ended up with two distinct files named "000" and both in the same folder Pictures.
    Please advise.
    it sounds to me like you saved one file as 000.jpg and the other and 000.jpg.jpg.
    check the info panels for the files for full names to verify if this is the case.

  • I can't create a new tag while saving a file in Yosemite.

    The title pretty much says it all :-) As I try to type in a new tag while saving a file, the curser just blinks, and doesn't respond.  I can't create a new tag. I can click on existing tags, and they get added to the file, but the support page on tags says:
    To add a tag:
    Click on a recent tag that appears in the menu to link it your document. You can even add multiple tags.
    Click “Show All…” to see the all of the tags you have created. Then, click on a tag to add it.
    You can also add tag by typing. As you type in the Tags field, you’ll see matching suggestions from your existing tags.
    To add a new tag, just type it in the field.
    New tags you create automatically appear in other locations where tags are visible, such as in the Finder sidebar.
    The fourth bullet is the one I'm referring to. I think this might be a bug, but I can't find a way to report it. If it's not a bug, I would really appreciate some guidance.

    What sort of file(s) are you trying to tag while saving?
    Have you tried saving the file first, then tagging it/them afterwards?

    It's the level of compression. Lower number, more aggressive compression, more visual artifacts.
    Aside from that you should never use jpeg as a working format. The compression is destructive and cumulative, and the file deteriorates every time you resave it.
    Use TIFF or PSD, and if you need jpeg save out a copy as a single final step.

  • How to save new edits and text to photo without creating a new file

    I am a new user of PSE 7.  I am able to enhance and add text to my photos but can't save the edits without creating a new PSD PSE file in addition to the original unedited photo.  How do I save the phto itself as edited?

    If you really want to make your changes irreversible then use “Save As” and select file type from the dropdown list e.g. jpeg and enter the exact same file name as the original. Click OK to save and OK to overwrite the original.
    While this of course is the answer to the question, the idea of overwriting the original is simply a bad idea. If you do this, you can never get back to your original and start again. That text will always be there.
    I advise the original poster not to do this. Save your edits as a different name.

  • Is it possible to open a new Worksheet without creating a new *.sql file

    Hello Community,
    Declaimer: It may be a trivial question. I just willing to make SQL Developer my default day to day tool.
    I is possible to open a new Worksheet without creating a new *.sql file. Like in an MS Word. If I just need some space to write something and than destroy the file without saying. I can quickly click < ctrl + N > and get the space.
    In SQL Developer to get a new "space"/work sheet i
    -a- < ctrl + N >
    -b- choose "SQL File"
    -c- confirm default location
    -d- choose the connection to be used (right top conner)
    This process is way to long for getting a new sheet to put write an SQL.
    Can you suggest a better way to get a workspace with current connection assigned in no time (like in MS Word)?
    Please ;)
    Yury

    There is no need to create new .sql file.
    I don't know why you need new SQL Worksheet when you can simply do the space by pressing Enter, but you can open a new one from Tools -> SQL Worksheet. There is also a toolbar button for this.

  • Saving a file in Photoshop creates a new drive in LR - huh?

    I am completely stumped on this.
    When in LR2, I right click a raw file and have it edit it in photoshop cs3. The image opens in PS. Now when I save it, either just by closing and having it save it automatically, or if I specify where I want it to be saved (and I want it to be saved in the same folder as my raw files), it's creating another drive area in LR.
    Please look at this image to see:
    http://www.allizdog.com/temp/LR-OddFolderThing.jpg
    You can see that I have my e: drive with all it's photo folders in it, and I have a folder selected that contains the file I edited. After I saved the file in PS, the second e: panel at the bottom appears and the PSD image file is in there, but it's not in the upper e: folder where I wanted it. Why is it creating this second thing?
    So, if I syncronize the folder I was originally working in, the PSD will show up where I wanted to, but now I have this second e: thing that I now have to delete.
    What's up with that?

    This and other exporting to CS3 problems are discussed in depth in this thread:
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b5f883
    but to answer your question--so far no one has reported a problem when deleting the 'ghost' folder.

  • Photoshop Elements 12 saving over files without asking

    Open a picture in Elements 12, on Mac, do a Save As, give it a name without an extension, and save.  It will save the file and add a .jpg at the end.  Then open a different file, do a Save As, give it the same name as you just saved the other file with, without an extension, and save.  It will overwrite the existing file you saved first, without asking, and add .jpg to the name again.  I have lost all kinds of files, and I dont know which ones, by PS Elements 12 saving over them without warning me!  BUG!

    Oh, and while you're in there delete:
    com.adobe.PhotoshopElements.plist
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 paths
    Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 settings
    There's a saved application states folder at the same level as the Preferences folder. Delete anything in there for PSE.

  • Mail To Form (with file upload) without creating a database

    I have created mail to forms in the past.....however I want to add an option to upload a file.
    Is it possible to do this without creating a database?

    You can do it without a database, but you'll need to have some kind of server scripting support.
    If you can use PHP, Formmail from http://www.tectite.com has the ability to attach images (and disallow any other file type).
    You might need to contact your hosting company to have them turn on the ability to send files via php, but it's an easy switch.

  • FTP without creating files on Application server

    hello everyone,
    in an internal table i have around 100 records each of length around 3500 chararters. i want to send this data to the client via ftp in the form of txt file. since the lenght of each record  exceeds 1000 bytes, i thought of sending the data directly to the ftp server without creating the file on the application server. is this feasible. please provide the necessary steps to achieve this.

    Hi,
    The FTP involves a lot of complexity but you can do the SCP(secure copy) instead. And what u can do is first create a file on application server and then u can delete it...
    the sample code is below..
    #!/bin/ksh
    scp <filename> <destination>
    rm -f <filename>

  • How can I rename files without creating a duplicate?

    How can I rename files without creating a duplicate?  And secondly, for some reason I can no longer save pdf files [i.e., bank statements] where I want - the Save As function is gone?

    In many new cases, Save As is now called Duplicate in ML. It uses the same command-S keystroke. Older apps still have Save As. When you do a Duplicate operation, you will create an UNTITLED document. You have to save that duplicated document to complete the process.
    So in 10.6.x, you would do ...
    * Save As ...
    * Give the file a new name + Chose the location for the file
    * Click the Save button
    Now in 10.8.x, you do ...
    * Duplicate ...
    * Save ...
    * Give the file a name + Chose the location for the file
    * Click the Save button
    As baltwo mentioned, you have to search the Preferences of your browser to determine what is has set for the default Download folder.
