As with everyone else, the password reset function doesn't work

Hello,
I have reset and re-registered my password repeatedly. Like many other people, the system has decided it is unable to function.   I have followed the instructions outlined in this:
http://forums.bestbuy.com/t5/BestBuy-com/BestBuy-com-Password-Reset-Assistance/m-p/820646
Repeatedly.  No go.
Please help me get back into my account on a regular basis.
Thanks,
Dan

  • Lost password and password reset utility doesn't work.

Kind of embarassing, but a couple of days ago I decided that it would be a good idea to change my password at three in the morning. Gah!
I tried using the password reset utility, but it would simply crash upon selecting my drive. I ran it from the terminal and it says that it's getting a bus error. I tried using passwd from single user mode, but it seems as though Apple has decided that that is a bad thing. Same goes for trying to run it from the terminal on the install disc.
What do I do now? Getting my files back won't be a problem, but I won't have the equipment to do that until I go home, and there are still a couple of weeks left in the semester. Being stuck using my guest account really *****!
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

This will give you root access to your computer:
    1) Reboot into single usermode (Hold "Cmd" + "S")
    2) At the Console # type:
    fsck -fy
    - This should come up OK after a minute, if not run it again
    3) At the Console # type:
    mount -uw /
    4)At the Console # type:
    nicl -raw /var/db/netinfo/local.nidb -createprop /users/root authentication_authority ";basic;"
    - The above should be all on 1 line (this might format it to wrap a line)
    5) At the Console # type:
nicl -raw /var/db/netinfo/local.nidb -createprop /users/root passwd
    - This will reset the root password
    6) At the Console # type:
    reboot
    7) You can now login with the username root

  • TS2446 I have an itunes account that has lost it's association with my email address, password or birthdate doesn't work.  How do I fix this?

My email address is no longer associated with my itunes account/MacID.  I think this happened when I created an account for my new iphone and used the same email address.  Now I've forgotten my password and can't seem to reset it.  When I tell it to send me a new password via email it never shows up.  When I try to do it by answering questions it doesn't accept my answers.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Since upgrading to ML, the trackpad handwriting function doesn't work on my macbook air late 2010

    Hi All,
I've run into an interesting problem lately. I have several macs in my home and two in particular (the imac and mba) that my parents use had Chinese Handwriting enabled via trackpad. However, since upgrading to Mountain Lion from Lion, those macs have an issue with enabling the Trackpad Handwriting option.
First off, I started to troubleshoot the issue with the iMac. After some fiddling around by turning the function on/off it seems to be fixed. I then went ahead and attempted to perform the same "fiddling" and steps on my macbook air (late 2010), and it just doesnt seem to work. The funny thing is, if I try enable it with the keyboard shortcut, the system seems to acknowledge the shortcut and displays an option in the menu bar to hide the trackpad as shown in the picture. But there's no Trackpad Handwriting to to be seen on the screen. I've even tried resetting the PRAM and SMC with no success. Any solutions?

Try swiping down with two fingers. This solved my problem.

  • Password reset function--Need to send the sap userid+NT email address

    Hi experts,
We would like to implement the password reset function in one of our systems. we have the existing code, which accepts <b>sap-user id</b> , resets the password and sends email to the user. Now the loophole is anyone can reset the password of others if he/she knows the <b>sapuserid</b>.
    1. Is there any solution for this.
    2. Can we pass the (sapid+NT email address) to the SAP system, when we enter <b>sap id</b> and press submit in the UI.
    Please advice...
    Thanks,
    Harini

  • OSX Server password reset portal doesn't communicate password requirements

    Here's the story:
We are migrating our users to a new fileserver running OSX Server 2.2.2 on 10.8 from an existing 10.4 server.  We have prepopulated the user accounts with the same login names as our old server, and set temporary passwords for each user that they will need to reset.  The plan was to have each user set their custom password via the built in web portal.  We've got Windows and Mac Users, so we are expecting at least the windows users will have to set their passwords this way, as the Mac users can be forced to reset their password at first login.
The issue is that we are are implementing stronger password requirements on the new server, but the password reset portal doesn't seem to communicate that at all.  When entering the existing password, and a new password that is not strong enough, we get the error:  "Your password could not be changed.  Please retype your old password and try again" which is misleading because it is an issue with the new password being too weak, not the old password being incorrect.
Is this normal behavior for this reset portal?  It's pretty basic, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's just the way it is, but we are looking for a way to keep it as simple as possible for our users, and to avoid unnecessary confusion.
For the record, our password requirements are:
password minimum length = 8 characters
    passwords must contain:
    at least one letter
    at least one number
    at least one special character
differ from last 5 passwords used
    be reset on first login

Then you might try this procedure to create a new administrator account:

Which i tried. I ran through the help link above which all seemed to work until the end... and i got this error...
Which means i couldn't get to the part that sets up a new user. :-(

I had this same problem with my new MBP 15", but only with the USB port on the left side. The USB port on the right side worked fine. Perhaps the ports on the left don't have enough signal energy for the iPhone.
Anyway, try using a different USB port, and if that doesn't work, perhaps you could try a powered USB hub.

You can't get it reset; if you could there would be no point in having it. If you have an encrypted backup there are two ways this could have happened:
You checked "Encrypt Backup" in iTunes at some time in the past, either intentionally or by accident
You have a corporate MS Exchange account and your Exchange administrator installed a security profile on your phone that requires the phone'a contents to be encrypted. This, in turn, requires the backup to be encrypted for obvious reasons.
In either case you were prompted for a password the first time you backed up after whichever of these happened. So think about what you might have entered for a password at that time. Fortunately you get an unlimited number of tries. Other threads on this subject have shown that it is always a password known to the user, so it wasn't something made up by iTunes. Also, everyone who has figured it out has found it to be a different password type, so try your Apple ID password, your computer's login password, your WiFi password, your corporate domain password, etc. And try passwords that may have been changed since your first backup. As a last resort there is a professional password cracker available, but it isn't cheap - it's targeted at the law enforcement market - from Elcomsoft. There are also some scam password crackers available that don't actually work and possibly steal your information. It's likely that a developer of one or more of these will post a response with a link (possibly hidden) to their "product". So before clicking any links you might want to install the Web of Trust plugin that keeps track of scam sites and warns you. http://www.mywot.com.

  • Adding account unlock to the password reset process

    Hi all,
Is it possible to change the processing which takes place on the password reset page?
We have a problem with users locking their accounts with invalid passwords they then reset their password but still can’t login as their account is locked. Is there any way to unlock their user account at the same time as resetting their password?
I’m guessing I need to plug in a call to BAPI_USER_UNLOCK somewhere in the logon par file but where? I doesn't seem to be structured in the same way as a normal par file.
Anyone one got any ideas or links?
    Thanks,
    Justin

    Hello Justin,
Actually the resetting of the password and the unlocking of user account are an all together different functionality.
See the resetting of password is done by the user itself or by an administrator .
But the unlocking of an account is always performed by user administrator.
and more over giving an option of unlocking an account itself to the end user is not a very good idea from a security perspective.
    Thanks and Regards
    Pradeep

  • Allow Anonymous Access to the Password Reset Portal

How do I go about enabling Anonymous Access to the Password Reset Portal?
The following instructions don't seem accurate anymore.  Has this setting changed with Sharepoint Services 3.0 SP2?
When I click on "Settings" in Step 4 the only option displayed is "Permission Levels".
Allow Anonymous Access to the password reset portal
In this procedure you will configure the portal to allow Anonymous Access to users who need to reset their passwords.
To allow anonymous access to the password reset portal
Log on to the password portal (http://<portal hostname/PasswordPortal) as an administrator.
On the top right hand side of the portal homepage click Site Actions, and then click Site Settings.
Under Users and Permissions click Advanced Permissions.
On the Permissions page, click Settings, and then select Anonymous Access.
Under Anonymous users can access, select Entire Web site, and then click OK.

Yes, that was very helpful.  Thanks!
Just in case that site dissapears and someone else needs this info, here it is:
If you don’t see the “Anonymous Access” menu option in the “Settings” menu, it might not be turned on in Central Admin/IIS. You can manually navigate to “_layouts/setanon.aspx” if you want, but the options will be grayed out if it hasn’t been enabled in IIS
First get to your portal. Then under “My Links” look for “Central Administration” and select it.
In the Central Administration site select “Application Management” either in the Quick Launch or across the top tabs
Select “Authentication Providers” in the “Application Security” section
Click on the “Default” zone (or whatever zone you want to enable anonymous access for)
Under “Anonymous Access” click the check box to enable it and click “Save”
NOTE: Make sure the “Web Application” in the menu at the top right is your portal/site and not the admin site.
You can confirm that anonymous access is enabled by going back into the IIS console and checking the Directory Security properties.
Now the second part is to enable anonymous access in the site.
Return to your sites home page and navigate to the site settings page. In MOSS, this is under Site Actions – Site Settings – Modify All Site Settings. In WSS it’s under Site Actions – Site Settings.
Under the “Users and Permissions” section click on “Advanced permissions”
On the “Settings” drop down menu (on the toolbar) select “Anonymous Access”
Select the option you want anonymous users to have (full access or documents and lists only)
Now users without logging in will get whatever option you allowed them.
A couple of notes about anonymous access:
You will need to set up the 2nd part for all sites unless you have permission inheritance turned on
You must do both setups to enable anonymous access for users, one in IIS and the other in each site

  • Unable to see the "Password Reset" tab in Indentity Store (SAP IDM 7.1)

I am trying to implement Password self-service as per the document "SAP NewWeaver Idenitty Management Identity Center Self-service password reset Implementation Guide" Version 7.1 Rev 2. In this guide, references are made to the Password Reset Tab in the Identity Store properties view in Identity Center. I do not see that tab in my view.
I followed the standard inst guides during the upgrade. Its a fresh implementation and we are on IDM 7.1 SP5
I have checked out couple of similar posts where it was resolved by installing SP3/4, does anyone have any other solution than applying the SP again ??
What do I need to do to have that tab?
    Thanks

    Matt,
    Ours is a fresh installation
According to the PSS 7.1 V2 guide, i completed the section 1 where i creted the UME roles and the
    Section 1: Creating the tasks
Creating the folder for the tasks
    Creating the password reset task
Creating the password reset failed task
Then started the Section 2 Configuring the identity store and the first point the document says is "Select the identity store in the console tree and choose the "Password reset" tab: " which i am unable to see the tab in my system.
I am i missing some config steps here ?  again i am just goin line - by - line what the doc says
    Thanks
