OSX Server password reset portal doesn't communicate password requirements

Here's the story:
We are migrating our users to a new fileserver running OSX Server 2.2.2 on 10.8 from an existing 10.4 server.  We have prepopulated the user accounts with the same login names as our old server, and set temporary passwords for each user that they will need to reset.  The plan was to have each user set their custom password via the built in web portal.  We've got Windows and Mac Users, so we are expecting at least the windows users will have to set their passwords this way, as the Mac users can be forced to reset their password at first login.
The issue is that we are are implementing stronger password requirements on the new server, but the password reset portal doesn't seem to communicate that at all.  When entering the existing password, and a new password that is not strong enough, we get the error:  "Your password could not be changed.  Please retype your old password and try again" which is misleading because it is an issue with the new password being too weak, not the old password being incorrect.
Is this normal behavior for this reset portal?  It's pretty basic, so I wouldn't be surprised if that's just the way it is, but we are looking for a way to keep it as simple as possible for our users, and to avoid unnecessary confusion.
For the record, our password requirements are:
password minimum length = 8 characters
passwords must contain:
at least one letter
at least one number
at least one special character
differ from last 5 passwords used
be reset on first login

Which i tried. I ran through the help link above which all seemed to work until the end... and i got this error...
Which means i couldn't get to the part that sets up a new user. :-(

    Couple of things that I see when I read this.
    1 - If you have tried to reset your password (and it says that mail has been sent) my guess is that your spam or junk folder may have it on Gmail? That's assuming your old email account (earthlink) is still forwarding to your new (Gmail) account.
    2 - Make sure your Firefox versions are up to date on the devices.

  • Problems using the reset password function on mac osx server.

    Having problems with the reset password functions on the OSX server. When I try to do through the command line it asks for the old password of the user. So how do I fix the problem? Do I have to log in onto the ldap server as the admin and reset from there or is there an easy fix to make the reset password function work. When I try the reset password function the server is not taking the input when I click on change password. So any helpful suggestions are welcome. Verson OSX lion 10.7.5

    Excuse me for misunderstanding your post.  You explicitly stated in your post

  • OSX Server: Airport password incorrect

    I've just upgraded my OSX server part to the lastest version (2.1.0) because since the last update from Lion to Mountain Lion it disables the OSX server features.
    My current configuration is:
    MacMini (mid 2011) Server edition (Intel i7 with 4 cores, 2 disks and 4GB ram)
    OS: OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2
    Server: OS X Server 2.1.0
    TimeCapsule: 2TB (l4th Gen)
    Just started with reconfiguration the stuff and now i keep running into a "strange" problem, if i open the server app i see on the left side a tree with all features etc... one of them is called "Hardware" (the first one in the row), under the section "Hardware" i'll find two entries... the MacMini itself and my 2TB TimeCapsule.
    When i click on the TimeCapsule entry it opens on the right side a nice and neat screen wich is telling me i can enter my Airport Password so i can maintain the settings from the TimeCapsule via the Server app. And thats where the problem lies... everytime i enter my password it keeps telling me that the password is incorrect :S what did i do wrong or do i misunderstant?
    To be sure i changed my TimeCapsule Base Station password into a nummeric only password (this i have done via the Airport Configuration Utility) and i also changed my TimeCapsule Disk Password to the same. but as you allready can guess it... it doesn't works :S it keep telling me the password is incorrect.
    Does anynbody have some ideas or cluess to look into?
    PS. Some other strange/stupid thing i've noticed on upgrading OS X Server was... the user account screen doesn't contain any users anymore... :S before the ML update (thus with the 'old' OSx Server part) it contains a few users... and now... zero, noppes, nada, 0, nothing... thanks Apple?

    Similar issue for me. Upgrade from server 10.7 to 10.8. Went through having to purchase a new operating system and a new server app. Downloaded new server app, opened, ran through wizard until it gets to the airport configuration - it can see my airport but refuses to accept the password. Typing a deliberate wrong password causees a 'incorrect password' message - the right password has no error message, but does not continue on to next step. So you have to untick the option to continue. Once the server is running (major problems there, but that's another issue) the airport appears on the right hand side, enter the password and it again refuses to accept it by telling me it's the wrong password (have confirmed correct password is being used - can manage airport through Airport utility).
    Saw a thread saying to delete the server app (trash it) and re-boot, re-download from app store and try again - did that, still same problem.
    Sigh. I try so hard to convince others that Apple is the way to go, but all these server issues (none of my exisiting services will work now - 'error reading settings' message) just make me wonder whether it's worth persisting.
    Edit: a dialog box appeared after trying to enter the Airport password via the server pane - 'An error occured on the server while processing a command. The error occurred while processing a command of type 'getLoggedEvents' in plug-in 'servermgr_info'."

  • AIR doesn't communicate with my server - PHP issue

    So I have made an AIR application where the file communicates with a PHP file in order to display data.
    I have WAMP installed on my computer, and the application works when I test locally using WAMP but if I upload the php on an online server(I tried on two of my servers) and run the AIR application it seems that it doesn't communicate with the server so no data are displayed.

    This is how I call for the php on AS3, like shown above.
    Any suggestions?
    The php file gives no errors when I browse it online so, I suppose there something else going on?

    There are no errors, on either the php files stored online neither the flash swf.
    The only file scalled from an online server are the PHP.
    I suppose I don't need to pack these PHP when publishing the air file, since they need to be called from an online server?
    Very tricky since there are no errors, I would appreciate any help since this is an urgent project.

    So I just removed the http:// from the urlrequest to the site that the PHP is stored and I get this IO error:
    Error #2044: Unhandled ioError:. text=Error #2032: Stream Error. URL: app:/test.com/test.php
    at my_fla::test_1/setPHP()[my_fla.test_1::frame1:38]
    Notice the app:/ ? why is it there? Could it be the issue? I am not sure, but if you link to a local file, like "test.php" it works, but when adding a URL it doesn't...

    Just in case that site dissapears and someone else needs this info, here it is:
    If you don’t see the “Anonymous Access” menu option in the “Settings” menu, it might not be turned on in Central Admin/IIS. You can manually navigate to “_layouts/setanon.aspx” if you want, but the options will be grayed out if it hasn’t been enabled in IIS
    First get to your portal. Then under “My Links” look for “Central Administration” and select it.
    In the Central Administration site select “Application Management” either in the Quick Launch or across the top tabs
    Select “Authentication Providers” in the “Application Security” section
    Click on the “Default” zone (or whatever zone you want to enable anonymous access for)
    Under “Anonymous Access” click the check box to enable it and click “Save”
    NOTE: Make sure the “Web Application” in the menu at the top right is your portal/site and not the admin site.
    You can confirm that anonymous access is enabled by going back into the IIS console and checking the Directory Security properties.
    Now the second part is to enable anonymous access in the site.
    Return to your sites home page and navigate to the site settings page. In MOSS, this is under Site Actions – Site Settings – Modify All Site Settings. In WSS it’s under Site Actions – Site Settings.
    Under the “Users and Permissions” section click on “Advanced permissions”
    On the “Settings” drop down menu (on the toolbar) select “Anonymous Access”
    Select the option you want anonymous users to have (full access or documents and lists only)
    Now users without logging in will get whatever option you allowed them.
    A couple of notes about anonymous access:
    You will need to set up the 2nd part for all sites unless you have permission inheritance turned on
    You must do both setups to enable anonymous access for users, one in IIS and the other in each site

    I do have the same issue. I have had an OSX Server 2.2.1 running and had to change the hostname from server.home to server.dyndns.org which ended  in a big mess. So I decided to setup a clean OSX Server installation with the new hostname. I performed the following steps
    - shutdown all services
    - delete Server.app
    - delete folder /Library/Server
    - reboot
    - perform repair access rights
    - install OSX Server
    The strange thing is that the setup process was different now and I was not ask what kind of server I want to setup. At the end I realized that it restored some settings from the previous installation.
    So my question: How do initiate a realy clean reinstallation of OSX Server. I want to avoid a setup from a time machine backup, as my server is maintained remotly (no monitor, keyboard).

    Assuming your network is working for other activities, and it's just the Mac App Store that's failing...
    Try restarting the download within the Mac App Store. 
    Failing that, restart Mac App Store and try restarting the download again.
    Then failing all that, I'd close Mac App Store, reboot the system, and open and try the Mac App Store download again.

  • Outlook doesn't want to connect with OSX Server on 2 out of 3 clients

    I have three computers on which I have installed Outlook 2011.  All three are running Mavericks.  On one of them, a MacBook air, I have established an outlook account connecting to my OSX server with no problems.  On the other two computers when I set the parameters the same way, I cannot establish an outlook account.  When I use Apple Mail on any of the three machines, I am able to establish accounts for iCloud and  the OSX server with no problems.  Can anyone point me to the source of this problem or a method for trouble shooting it?

  • Fresh install Mavericks, then install OSX Server 3.1.1, it doesn't work

    Using a mac mini.
    Wiped the hard drive clean.
    Installed Mavericks.
    Created 1 user.
    Right away, went to the App Store and installed OSX Server.
    Ran the Server.app.
    It said everything went ok.
    It didn't.
    Trying to see what could have gone wrong. I found the /Library/Server/PostgreSQL/Data is empty and the logs keep spamming how nothing can connect to the Postgre Database.
    I will try to get more logs in here. However I am trying an install from the recovery partition at the moment.
    Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated.

    What do you mean by integrate? Did you enroll the iPhone 4S into profile manager on earlier versions of OSX Server?
    We need more info on your statement that you could integrate the iPhone 4S.
    What kind of error message do you get and where, where does it fail?
