  • Error while checking the status of Oracle Cluster ware

    Hi
    I was trying to install the database using dbca after setting up the grid and database software on LINUX x86-64 RHEL 5.7 machine. The database software version is 11.2.0.3. It throwing the error regarding the connectivity of clusterware. So I checked the status of clusterware.

    =======================
    I see in the above log that saying ASM instance is down and failed to open +DATA .
    But the asm instance up and running
    SQL> select instance_name,status from v$instance;
    INSTANCE_NAME STATUS
    +ASM1            STARTED
    And we havent created any disk named DATA before the installation. We have created only below two disks
    SQL> select name,header_status from v$asm_disk;
    NAME HEADER_STATUS
    ASM_DATA MEMBER
    FLASH_RECOVERY MEMBER
    But I am seeing a diskgroup in the v$asm_diskgroup which we havent created.
    SQL> select name,state from v$asm_diskgroup;
    NAME STATE
    DATA MOUNTED
    Ya this is a second time installtion. In the first installtion we created the asmdisk as DATA. But later everything (RAW device ) was formatted and this new disks has been created and installtion again started
    [root@SFV9699 bin]# oracleasm listdisks
    ASM_DATA
    FLASH_RECOVERY
    Seems like its trying to read the old disk DATA.
    we have done asmscanning too with oracleasm scan disks. but no use.
    Where I can remove the old entry of DATA disk.
    It would be a great if a quick response get.
    Thanks
    SHIYAS M

    The permission looks fine. If it was permission issue then y it is trying to read the DATA disk which I havent created this time at all ( But created in the first installation).

    what abt dropping this group.. will anything work.

    The interlink is up and running.
    We try to recreate the OCR and Voting from daily backup without any result
    Does anyone has an idea ?
    Thanks *T

    Hi Paul,
    yes the ASM is down.
    That was confusing me. If I shutdown the other node the +ASM can start and clustering com´s up normal.
    It looks like only one node can use voting or ocr....
    The behavior looks like the interlink is down buts is not ;:-(
    One node ( first com´s up) start normally and take all cluster resources ...scan .. the vips..
    And second node show this error mess..
    Thanks

  • New Non-ASM Standby Trying to use ASM during recovery

    Oracle 11.2.0.3 on RH6 x86_64. Cross-posting from oracle-l.
    We have a database on ASM. We want to migrate to filesystem storage on same host (Oracle ZFS). Recommended path from Oracle is to create a standby and then do a failover when ready. Simple enough you'd think.
    Standby has all reference to ASM diskgroups removed, and convert parameters set appropriately. Take a new backup including archivelogs and also a backup standby controlfile. The "duplicate target database for standby" performs the restore phase perfectly fine. When the media recovery phase starts, I see it tries to mount the diskgroup that the primary uses for ASM. However it fails to do so (plenty of errors to alert log), then recovery fails and the instance is left in mount mode. Subsequent attempt to run "recover database" or even "crosscheck archivelog all" run into the same ASM errors.
    The one odd thing I see is the reference to the srvctl resource name for that diskgroup:
    Mon Aug 19 10:41:35 2013
    ERROR: failed to establish dependency between database prod_zfs and diskgroup resource ora.FRA.dg
    However I never registered prod_zfs in srvctl, and it still isn't listed when I run "srvctl config database".
    There are no references to ASM paths in the standby v$logfile, v$datafie, v$tempfile or v$archived_log. Created a trace controlfile and the ASM paths it uses are for logfiles and datafiles which are successfully restored on disk and renamed in the controlfile.
    Wondering if any of you have seen this.

    Here's an example of what I can reproduce 100%of the time:
    RMAN> backup database plus archivelog;
    Starting implicit crosscheck backup at 08/19/2013 16:28:53

    With ASM of 11g2 on Redhat 5, I tried to connect the instance with ASMSNMP but failed[grid@cchordrdb admin]$ sqlplus / as sysasm

    Normal/expected,
    You have 2 options. Or via OS autentication (I guess in your case login as grid user and sqlplus / as sysasm) or via password file (connect usu/pwd@inst as sysasm).

  • ORA-15063: ASM discovered an insufficient number of disks for diskgroup "DB

    Dear All,
    we are moved our storage from hitachi to EMC . after come to emc no issue.
    But few day before we are try to use old hitachi storage for our T&D,the same storage mounted in new server.
    After that we are try to start the asm but it disk group not mounted .
    It show following error....
    ERROR at line 1:
    ORA-15032: not all alterations performed
    ORA-15063: ASM discovered an insufficient number of disks for diskgroup "DB01"
    1) we are checked the 52 raw devices have oracle:dba permission we are verified.
    2) all raw device can be viewed in v$asm_disk and state is normal.
    3) we are tried asm_diskstring=* also
    4) even it show same error.
    1) My doubt is the asm meta data may be not correct how can i verifiy the the asm metadata and how can i resolve this asm error.
    2) If i drop this asm diskgroup and recreate in same name and add all 52 disk to the group the data will be loss or not?
    Thanks&regards
    SS.vijaibabu

    1) My doubt is the asm meta data may be not correct how can i verifiy the the asm metadata and how can i resolve this asm error.Asm metadata will get stored in asm_disks it's self. we cannot retrieve metadata unless you mount the diskgroup.Most probably these would be permission related of disks.
    any pointings to alert log Errors of this operation.
    >2) If i drop this asm diskgroup and recreate in same name and add all 52 disk to the group the data will be loss or not?
    The header status of disks changes to FORMER ,once we fire drop on it.we cannot get back the data becase asm will format the disk after dropping.

    Hi, it seems this errors comes from the fact that the asm wasn't registred in the cluster.
    so you have ti recreate the asm instance and register this instance in the cluster.
    srvctl add asm -p $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/init$+ASM.ora
    srvctl config asm
    i hope it could help !

  • ASM - Pros/Cons/Personal experience?

    I am currently setting up 10g on a Solaris 10 x86 host. The file systems have already been created. This is my first experience with 10g and I was wondering:
    how many of you are using ASM?
    how do you like it?
    what pitfalls can you help me to avoid?
    do you recommend even using it?
    thanks for all your responses. :)

    Hi,
    we had tested ASM on our development server and we faced lots of problem in 10g Rel1(without any patch).
    So my conclusion is that directly go for 10g Rel 2.and must apply latest and available patches and always ready for Oracle Support if anyone is intrested to use it on production server.In ASM we have very limited control on it.because its working is totally hidden and very difficult to understand the ASM error messages.
    Thanks

  • Oracle ASM doesn't like my Xen xvd* devices...

    I have 3 VMs all running OEL, sitting on top of a physical host. On the physical host, I have configured Linux multipathing to approx. 20 SAN luns.
    I am presenting the multipath device files, the entities in /dev/mapper, up to each VM. However, when my colleague, the Oracle consultant, goes to make use of the /dev/xvd* files I present, Oracle ASM errors out and tells him, I believe, that the device is not a valid partition, or does not have partitions. Something along those lines.
    (Note: normally Xen prevents you from presenting a disk device read-write to multiple VMs, but I override this functionality with a '!' flag in the VM's config file).
    We've never had this problem when doing multipathing on physical servers. We just tell Oracle ASM about the files in /dev/mapper/, and it goes on its merry way.
    What, if anything, can I do to get Oracle ASM happy with the /dev/xvd* files in the guest OS? (The files that correspond to the files in /dev/mapper/* on the physical OS.)

You need to fisk the /dev/xvdX devices first to give them a valid partition table. Once you've done that, you can then expose them to ASM as /dev/xvdX1 for example.

    Hi,
    Please post the alertlog ASM from node 1, crsd.log and ocssd.log from node 1
    It might be because node 1 can't see asm disk or permission accidentally changed when the node rebooted
    Cheers

  • Disk " disk " does not exist or is not instantiated after reboot the server

    Hi,
    I have one issue with 11gR2 cluster. I have 2 node cluster on CentOS 5.5. I am using HP MSA 1000 storage LUNs and create disk group and volume for RAC setup in openfiler.
    The whole setup was running fine but before few days some one has recreate the database [clusterDB] using control file. I can see this from alter.log file of "oracle" user. And somehow one node is not able to up and running.
    I have no idea what is going on so just restart both the nodes and storage one by one.
    After restarting I can not view my ASM disk from /usr/sbin/oracleasm listdisks.
    EvenI can not see the ASMdisk from /dev/oracleasm/disks... also I try to querydisk it showing that "Disk "<diskname>" does not exist or is not instantiated"
    From the master node I can see the cluster registry configuration through "ocrcheck -config"
    *./ocrcheck -config*
    Oracle Cluster Registry configuration is :
    Device/File Name : +ACFSDG
    from the slave when I run the ocrcheck ...it gives error
    PROT-602: Failed to retrieve data from the cluster registry
    PROC-26: Error while accessing the physical storage ASM error [SLOS: cat=8, opn=kgfolclcpi1, dep=210, loc=kgfokge
    AMDU-00210: No disks found in diskgroup ACFSDG
    AMDU-00210: No disks found in diskgroup ACFSDG
    ] [8]
    Any idea what is the cause behind this? There are many errors in $GRID_HOME/log/<hostname>.log file and other referring file. I might be sure that until I enable the ASMDISK/detect the ASMDISK I can not start crs...
    Shall I try with restore operation of OCR or replace option in ./ocrcheck...will it usefull?
    Let me know if you have already face this issue.
    Thanks...

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
    I have "/dev/sd*" in my both the RAC nodes and on storage machine it was showing as "/dev/dm-*" whenever I run " fdisk -l " command... and I did this through iscsi initiatior and target and also create "Create Persistent Local SCSI Device Names ".
    I also create one script "iscsidev.sh" in /etc/udev and it was perfectly working. Before this issue I was restarted the server and confirm it.
    script is below
    ==============
    # FILE: /etc/udev/scripts/iscsidev.sh
    BUS=${1}
    HOST=${BUS%%:*}
    [ -e /sys/class/iscsi_host ] || exit 1
    file="/sys/class/iscsi_host/host${HOST}/device/session*/iscsi_session*/targetname"
    target_name=$(cat ${file})
    # This is not an open-scsi drive
    if [ -z "${target_name}" ]; then
    exit 1
    fi
    # Check if QNAP drive
    check_qnap_target_name=${target_name%%:*}
    if [ $check_qnap_target_name = "iqn.2004-04.com.qnap" ]; then
    target_name=`echo "${target_name%.*}"`
    fi
    echo "${target_name##*.}"
    ==============
    Thanks...
