  • ASM shutdown problem

    Hi experts,
suddenly I faced ASM shutdown problems on a 2 node RAC. While trying to reboot the second node the resource ora.asm can't be shut down.
After 10 minutes the shutdown of ASM times out. There is an interesting line in the ohasd.log saying that ASM can't be shut down due to error code: 3.
Does anyone knows what this means? I googled hours and hours without any success, even in MOS I found no further informations.
    Help is greatly appreciated!!!!!!
    Thanks a lot

    Hi gurus,
I noticed that the shutdown of the ASM instance went wrong as part of the OHAS. Unfortunately I have no error stack except this numerical error written in the ohasd.log.

  • Oracle 12c ASM Disk Problem on AIX

    Hi All,
We need to install 12.1.0.2 DB with ASM option on AIX 7.1. When we start to install 12.1.0.2 grid installation, in the 3.step we could not show adding Candidate disks to ASM. Disks right are 660 and oracle:oinstall ownership.
When we start to install 11gR2 installation on same platform we can see the Candidate Disk, and We can install 11gR2 ASM+DB on same platform. But for 12.1.0.2 is not.
How can we add Candidate Disks to 12c ASM İnstallation for below step ? The disks which is not shown for this step are like below. After first error I have changed disks' ownership like oracle:asmadmin, it isn't solved. I need urgent help.

    Hi Sve,
Thanks for replying me. What you have written are tried but not works. I have solved problem.
The problem is related AIX platform. I have Solved problem with below steps.
1- I have installed grid infrastructure with Software Only option.
2- After install Software Only Standalone Grid, I have tried to install manually ASM instance. But I have taken this error. rtld: 0712-001 Symbol CreateIoCompletionPort was referenced and it is solved with this MOSC ID: Doc ID1949184.1)
3- After Successfull 2.step you can now install ASM manually from asmca.

  • URGENT:ASM coding problem

The following code inputs a string frm the user and then displays it back. I need to compare the user-inputted string (whose address is saved in DS:DX) with a String "HI". • ASM Disk Problem

    My diskgroup have three disks.
The first disk state is NORMAL,
but secondly and thirdly disk state is FORCING,not to use it.
    How to change disk'state ?

I encountered a similar problem in the past. If you look in the reference manual
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B14117_01/server.101/b10755/dynviews_1018.htm#sthref2985, V$ASM_DISK.STATE=FORCING is described as
FORCING - Disk is being removed from the disk group without attempting to offload its data. The data will be recovered from redundant copies, where possible.
Have you tried rebalancing the diskgroup? Before issuing the statement below make sure you have backups. The rebalance does not implicate data loss, it will only uniformly redistribute the data. Nevertheless it always wise to have a backup before doing this on a production database.
    alter diskgroup <diskgroup_name> rebalance;
If the rebalance works properly the second and third disks should automatically be dropped and you can re-add them to the diskgroup.
If this does not work for you, please file an itar with Oracle Support as you may need to apply the most recent patchset and other patches.

  • Shared disk (SAN EVA 4400) configuration for ASM on linux RHEL5

    Hi all,
I want to install RAC database (oracle 10g on RHEL5). Now we are configurind shared storage for the both servers (nodes). In disk configuration (SAN on EVA 4400) we have created the volume group for the disk to use for ASM and present the disk group to the servers. Actually when we check the server we cannot see the disk (shared storage).
    [root@cdr-analysis01 ~]# ls /dev/cciss/ -lR
    /dev/cciss/:
    total 0
    brw-r----- 1 root disk 104, 0 Jul 1 2009 c0d0
    brw-r----- 1 root disk 104, 1 Jul 1 14:29 c0d0p1
    brw-r----- 1 root disk 104, 2 Jul 1 14:29 c0d0p2
    brw-r----- 1 root disk 104, 3 Jul 1 14:29 c0d0p3
    brw-r----- 1 root disk 104, 4 Jul 1 2009 c0d0p4
    brw-r----- 1 root disk 104, 5 Jul 1 14:29 c0d0p5
    brw-r----- 1 root disk 104, 6 Jul 1 14:29 c0d0p6
    brw-r----- 1 root disk 104, 7 Jul 1 2009 c0d0p7
    brw-r----- 1 root disk 104, 8 Jul 1 14:29 c0d0p8
(they are local disks not the shared disk)
    My questions are:
    - How to mount the disk to be seen in the server
    - How to configure the disk for ASM is there any document for this. In my knowledge the disk to use for ASM doesn't need to be formated with a file system and shouldn't see when we run the df command.
Does anybody can help me as it's very urgent for us.
    Thank you
    Raitsarevo

    Hi all,
NOw the disk is presented to server. but my actual problem is how to create shared partition of this disk for the servers.
Our actual status is we have created one volume group with 500 Gb in the sun and this volume group is called vg_oradata. we will use this storage for OCR, voting disk and the databse file (ASM). A si know from documentation i have to create one shared partition for OCR, one shared partition for Voting disk and another for database.
That i want to do is creating for example :
    ocr_partition (25 Gb) : for OCR
vote_partition (25 Gb): for Voting disk
oradata_part1 (150 Gb): for database (ASM)
oradata_part2 (150 Gb): for database (ASM)
oradata_part3 (150 Gb): for database (ASM)
My problem is how to create this partition because when i'm trying to create it from Logical Volume Manager of Linux i cannot find them in to servers.
I mean i'm new in system administrator and our SAN vendors also doesn't know how to it in LInux system.
Could you help me please if possible.
My system is Linux Red Hat Enterprise 5 and i'm going to use Oracle 1Og RAC.
    Thank you
    Lucienot

  • Shared partition creation (SAN EVA 4400) for OCR/Vote andASM on linux RHEL5

    Hi all,
We are going to install database (Oracle 10g) with RAC on Linux Red Hat Enterprise 5. The storage we are using is SAN shared storage, out SAN vendor has finished to configure and present the dsk storage (500 Gb) to the 2 servers, the name of the volume group is VG_ORADATA. this volume will be used for OCR, VOting disk and ASM (database file).
Our problem is to create and configure the shared partition for the 2 servers.
Here is what i want to do, i want to create:
    ocr_partition (25 Gb) : for OCR
vote_partition (25 Gb): for Voting disk
oradata_part1 (150 Gb): for database (ASM)
oradata_part2 (150 Gb): for database (ASM)
oradata_part3 (150 Gb): for database (ASM)
The problem is how to create these partiton an dto mount them for the 2 servers, what is the tools we have to use for this tasks. Can i use LVM (Logical Volume Manager) in linux for this tasks.
Thanks for the help and need your help as it's very urgent for us.
    Thank you
    Raitsarevo.

    My thoughts.
    1. Your OCR partition size is too high by several orders of magnitudes. Read the docs and size it appropriately.
    2. Your Voting disk partition size is also far too large. Again read the docs and size it appropriately.
    3. If you have RAC you have one and only one database (not 3)
    4. ASM is not a database and requires no room on your SAN. ASM is an instance that must reside on your servers (nodes).
    5. Where are you putting your flashback recovery area, archived redo logs, flashback logs, etc?
    6. Where are you putting your online backup files?
    7. If you have ASM throw the LVM away. It will do nothing for you other than eat CPU.

    Hi,
ASM has problem communicating with the listener.
Most likely a firewall issue or port conflict.
Maybe disable iptables, and try again.
Oh: And btw use 11.2.0.2 or 11.2.0.3 from support. They are fully installable and fix some issues which 11.2.0.1 had...

    IT WORKS!!!!
    Thanks oradba.
in the metalink note there is the solution...
    for your knowledge :
    Solution
The solution given here is not meant to be implemented in all cases, but worked on this case.
The TCP Loopback was inactivated then uninstalled
    The windows server was rebooted
The RDBMS 10.2 was uninstalled and reinstalled (this is because there were also issues contacting
the database with either tool (sqlplus, tnsping, ....)
But it could be sufficient to drop and recreate the DB Control if no issue are hit with the
    database itself:
    - Open a DOS Command Window
    - set ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID
    - go to %ORACLE_HOME%\bin
    - > emca -deconfig dbcontrol db
    - > emca -config dbcontrol db
of course the note is windows version...but i did deconfigure/configure and it works..
now i'll try to investigate about this problem...
    Bye

  • Trying to install Windows XP on Parallels...Error message! Help!

I have a macbook pro and I am trying to install Windows XP via Parallels on it. The installation seemed to be working until I got an error message that said "The file ASMS can't be found. Insert your HP cd into the drive." and then it said something about typing in the location address manually... Please help! I checked and the ASMS file IS on the cd but Parallels doesn't seem to be recognizing it...

I am also trying to install XP Pro, both with Boot Camp and Parallels, and meeting the missing asms file problem although I don't receive a missing HP card msg as I am using an original MS Win Pro installation disc. Instead I get a System Setup error log entry: ' I/O device error. Installation failed asms. D:\I386\asms. Component needed by Windows could not be installed.'
Apple Tech Help suggested I probably had a faulty disc but online searches show this problem has existed for some years and affected both Mac and PC users. The latter seem to be able to solve the problem by tinkering with the Registry - but what about us Mac types? Any help would be much appreciated.

    It is impossible even for a highly skilled artificial intelligent device to analyze your problem with the given details below;
