Associating a certain "useful life" for each "Asset Class" ?

Hi All
Could anyone tell me how to associate a certain "useful life" for each "Asset Class" ?
Which's customizing navigation?
Thanks
Gandalf

Hi Try this..
If you go to IMG (Transaction SPRO) :-
-> Financial Accounting
-> Asset Accounting
-> Master Data
-> Screen Layout
-> Define Screen Layout for Asset Depreciation Areas
-> ScrnLayout XXXX
-> Field group rules
Here, you will find whether column 'Class' is activated -> it should be activated
Hope it helps

  • HOW TO CHANGE THE USEFUL LIFE FOR MORE ASSETS AT A TIME FOR ASSET CLASS

    Hi All,
Asset which is under Asset Class Support system-B700. Here every thing is ok but the problem in USE FULL LIFE which is come by default. It must be 4 instead of  5.   So can any body help me out from this how to change the Useful life in that Asset class.  In that Asset Class we have the morethan 200 Assets. It was happend in Prdocution system so now the problem is where i can change the useful life for the asset class either in DEV or PRD.
Also i want to know the information of How these assets are Uploaded into the system (Lsmw or etc). this is very urgent for me.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Regards,
    Siva.

    Hi Ashok,

  • Carryover of Expected Useful Life for an Asset

When I create an asset in our system, in the first year carryover the system is not creating a count of 1 year and 2 months. Instead I receive 14 months in asset useful life. This example is based off an asset created on 11/1/10 with a carry forward to 2011. Anybody know why this is happening?

Thanks for your reply. My question is not to get a list of assets which are fully depreciating this year. I want to know the end of useful life for certain assets that I will select. What you told, would show the assets expiring this year.
Let me know if I am missing something.

  • End of Useful life for an asset

    Hello,
Does anyone know if there is any standard report which states when the asset's useful life is going to end? Even if there is no standard report, does anyone know if this information is stored in any tables from which it can be extracted. Basically, my user has a requirement to know when a certain chunk of his assets are going to fully depreciate. I know this information is available in the asset explorer (comparision tab) but there are some 500 assets and it would be helpful if there is some sort of list available.
    Thanks for your help

  • Useful Life for Assets and Asset Sub Numbers

I am just learning about SAP Asset Accounting, for an implementation project, and I have a question about the Useful life of an Asset Sub Number when setting up Assets with Asset Sub numbers.
Does the useful life of the Asset Sub number have to be the same as the useful life of the Asset Main number?
I would like to know if I can set up an Asset, such as a building, with the asset main number, that has a useful life of say 40 years, then create asset sub numbers for things like the HVAC system that has a useful life of say 15 years.
I am not sure if it would be better to use a group asset for this situation or not.
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me with this!
    Amy Hay

    Amy,
"Does the useful life of the Asset Sub number have to be the same as the useful life of the Asset Main number?"
No.  A sub number can have completely different attributes from it's main asset (cost center, order, keys, UL...).
The situation you're describing is possible and from a design perspective it <i>can</i> be a good idea.  Yes, you can create a main asset "Building" with a 40 year UL, but then have sub-assets for other major components (HVAC, Elevator, Security).  This is one of the two types of design techniques for sub assets (a component based design).  The other is based on the year of capital improvements.  For instance, you could create a subasset "2007" and settle all projects related to capital improvements to that subasset.  That way you would get visibility into capital acquisitions in FIAA reporting without having to goto CO or PS.
I would definitely <b>not</b> recommend using group assets.  Group assets are used for composite depreciation scenarios and do more than just "group" similar records together.

  • Wrong depreciation calcualtion when we change useful life of an asset

    Hi,
We change the useful life of an asset during the middle of the year.  The deprecaiton calculation is not effecting correctly for the remaining useful life of an asset.
We are using stright line method of depreciaion. I will appreciate if any post some tips what is wrong .
    Example:
    Current State:
    Acquisition value: 300,000
    Acquisition date: 1/1/08
    Useful life: 3 years
    NBV 12/31/08: 200,000
    NBV 6/30/09: 150,000
New life: 2 years, starting 7/1/2009
    Current methodology:
NBV at 12/31/08 divided by new remaining life as of the beginning of the year (2009) $200,000 / 12 months = $16,667
    Depreciation expense in 7/31/09: $66,669 ([16,667 * 7 months = 116,669] minus depreciation at old method booked for first 6 months of 2009 [200,000/24 = 8,333 * 6 = $50,000]). $116,669 u2013 50,000 = $66,669
Monthly Depreciation expense between 8/31/09-12/31/09: $16,667 / month
    Future State:
    Requested methodology:
NBV at 6/30/09 divided by remaining life as of the date of the change: (150,000/6mos) $25,000
Can any one explain what is the issue

    Hi,
By default, any change in depreciation parameters will recalculate depreciation from the beginning.  If you want to change depreciation terms on different phases, you may need to introduce a depreciation key which changes percentage in multi-level method.

  • Open several PDFs in the same Reader window using tabs for each document

How do I open several PDFs in the same Reader window using tabs for each document?  I'm using Reader 11.0.03 and Windows 7.

That would be a nice feature!  Suggest it at https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform - hopefully it will make it into Reader XII.

  • Asset Report - for useful life of an asset

    Dear Friends,
Is there any standard report which gives the following information --
    1.  Asset Number,
    2.  Asset Name
    3.  Account Determination,
    4.  Profit Center
    5.  Useful Life,
    6.  Depreciation in the current Year
    7.  Accumulated Depreciation
    8.  Acquisition Date
I tried in Asset Balances Reports.  Most of the fields are coming except Useful Life.
    Can any one please suggest.
    Regards
    KVKR

    Hi
There is no report with usefullife , either you can go with query or you can extract Asset standard report where you will find most of the details you mentioned and for usefullife please use table  ANLB and extract data from this table for useful life. You may copy  your asset nos extracted by the above standard Asset report and paste that in the asset field of table ANLB.
Now you can insert the useful life in your main report.
    cheers

  • Correcting useful life of an asset in previous year

Hi, We have implemented SAP last year in April at one of our sites. At the time of initial upload of assets, we made a mistake and some of the assets were uploaded with incorrect useful life. Till date every month we were running depreciation based on incorrect useful life. F.Year was closed in Dec 2005. Now auditors have detected this mistake. How do we fix this? Any suggestions...

    hi sourabh
u can reset the closed fiscal year through "Asset acountingperiod end closingreverse" using this function u can reopen the fiscal yera either for selected depriciation areas or for all dep.Be careful you should reopen a fiscal year only for certain depreciation areaas, and do adjustment postings in those only. u cannot use standard transaction types post to all depriciation areas. u have to define ur own transaction types.
Change the field in asset master in last closed fiscal year. And start the depriciation program run in repeat run mode

  • Depriciation key and useful life periods in asset master should in display mode only

    Hi all
At the time of creation asset master AS01 we are given the Asset class, company code and similar of asset (1) then we click enter button we will get Create asset: master data screen here in general tab we enter the description and in time dependent tab we enter cost center manually
    But
When we click on Depreciation tab here the  Depreciation key and use life fields are automatically come with Dep.key(ABC) and use life(15) (Because we maintained in OAYZ)
Here user have a chance to change the Dep.key(ABC) and use life(15).so my requirement is these two fields are display with only display mode .
User don’t have chance to modify this.

    Hi Anil,
The screen layout for Asset and its depreciation tab are different. You have to make these fields as Display only in the screen layout. This can be done using T-Code AO21. Below are the screenshots for the path and screen layout for your reference. This should solve your issue

  • Changing useful life of an asset

    Hi All,
Client wants to change the asset's useful life from 4 years to 3 years. Also previous depreciations should not get affected due to this. The new recalculated value of the asset should be spread over the remaining useful life and depreciation amount should also be recalculated accordingly. Do we have such functionality in SAP version ECC4.6?? or we need to post the depreciation manually going forward?? I have tried smoothing method but this is also not helping me out.
Please advice if we can do something in it.
    Many Thanks,
    Parul

    Hello Parul
Sorry but this functionality is only available as of release 6.0 if you have the
new depreciation engine activated. Note 965032 will provide you more details. In
particular section 4. c) Managing time-dependent depreciation parameters:
With the new depreciation calculation, you now have the option to
change depreciation terms during the fiscal year. This means that
the changed parameters are included in the calculation always
from the period for which the period is also valid.
The following depreciation terms can be maintained   time-dependently on the   fixed asset:
      -  Depreciation Keys
    -  Useful life
      -  scrap value/scrap value percentage rate
      -  variable depreciation portion

  • Change the useful life of an asset

    Hi everyone,
I'm using Oracle 11i Asset module. currently I have an asset whose useful life is 4 years. But we realise that this asset can only last for 3.5 years (3 years and 6 months).
I tried to go into the Book of this asset and changed the life to 3.5 years. The system allows me to change the life year from 4 to 3 years but when want to change the life months from 0 to 6 months, the system doesn't allow.
Can anyone of you help me?
    Thanks in advance

Please check the Depreciation method setup.
    (Navigation: Setup-->Depreciation-->Methods)
There should be an entry for life in years=3 and life in months=6 for that depreciation method.
If it is not there, then system will not allow you to change the asset life.
You need to make an entry in the depreciation methods screen (Navigation: Setup-->Depreciation-->Methods) before trying to change the asset life.
Let me know if this helps.
    Thanks,
    Siva.

  • Problem in useful life of the asset?

    Hi,
I don't know what and where it is going wrong so need your suggestion please:
We have created one new asset class and trying to check dep. in testing server but system is calculated dep. with useful life as 10 years only for all the assets I have created.
In OAYZ, I have just given the dep. key and the fields of useful life and period is blank for all the dep. areas. Also, tried with useful life 5 but result is same.
In Asset Master, I have mentioned the useful life as 5 years for all the dep. area.
The problem is system is system is showing the values based on useful life of 10 years, why I don't know what shall I do please suggest....
I have checked it by creating some of other assets as well with different useful lives but the result is same.
    Please help!!!
    Thanks in advance....
    Regards
    Nitin

    Hi Nitin,
If the depreciation is based on 10 years even if you have entered useful life 5 years then it means depreciation key is not configured as dep based on useful life.
It seems depreciation is based on explicit percentage which must be 10% in your case.
Check what dep key is assigned in Asset master and go to T code AFAMA, AFAMS for depreciation key settings.
If you still have doubts of how to go about it then attach screenshots of AFAMA,AFAMS.
    Hope it solves.
