Asurion Insurance Theives

It is hard to believe that Verizon associates with Asurion. Their customer service and policies are tantamount to thievery and there really ought to be a class action lawsuit against them for consumer fraud. After paying an insurance premium for several years with no claims, I finally submit a claim only to be told that the original 50 deductible I signed up for had been raised to 199? They claim that I was notified by Verizon in my bill (somewhere in the fine-print of the 20+ pages of my bill I am sure) and that there is no recourse for me paying for insurance all of this time, other than to pay the 199 deductible for a new phone. Shame on you Verizon for conducting business with such an unscrupulous company that takes advantage of their customers.

It shouldn't be too hard to believe, every single carrier uses them to some extent.
They don't play games though, they aren't in the customer service business..you can't cry and whine to get what you want, you only get what you deserve.

  • If you bought Asurion insurance for your iPhone, cancel it IMMEDIATELY!!!!!

It is the BIGGEST ripoff EVER.
I paid $99 for my iPhone 2 years ago on a promotion, and I have been paying Asurion $10 a month for insurance very since.
When my phone was stolen and I made a claim, the deductible is $199.
The brochure is the Verizon lists 2 deductibles for phones: $49 and $99. The "customer service" ***** with whom I spoke told me that this is not applicable to iPhones. When I asked where this information could be found in the brochure, I was told it was listed on the WEBSITE!!!!!
My phone sells for less $100 on Ebay. Why would I want to pay a $199 deductible to replace it through Asurion.
These people are a RIPOFF!!!!!!! Do not use them. Cancel your insurance if you have it. Spread the word.
I am considering filing a small claims suit against them. If there is a lawyer out there who is looking for a class action suit, here is a perfect one!

I do not see how you have a deductible of 199, the deductible for iphones are actually 169.99, and it is not a verizon service that it goes through, it goes through Asurion, which almost all cell phone providers go through, To be honest, insurance saves alot for the people who have accidents, for a new iphone, you would have to spend about 650.00 for a brand new phone. I'm surprised you would sell your iPhone for 100$, I see most run about 200$ at least. That brochure must be very old because around Winter time, notifications were sent out to all customers around Christmas time, when the 4s came out, I think it was early January Asurion changed the iPhone's deductible, because it is the most targeted phone for being stolen, I think Apple pushed that out actually, lost or stolen or damaged still pays the same deductible no matter what. Insurance usually saves the most when you need the extended warranty though, it covers any internal problems in the phone as long as you have the device, it doesn't expire, but the manufacturer warranty expires after only a year, so it is very beneficial if you think about it, I get insurance on everything, well except Ps3, Walmart's policy isn't very good.

  • I need help getting a new Iphone 5s.  I broke it and have asurion insurance (which I used once before).  What is the quickest way to get a phone?

  • Asurion equals Worthless Insurance

I am just posting to advise EVERYONE carrying the Asurion Insurance package for their wireless devices to CANCEL THE INSURANCE IMMEDIATELY.
You are paying for NOTHING!  If you have an accident with your device, YOU WILL GET NOTHING from Asurion, except a BILL demanding that you PAY
FOR ANOTHER DEVICE, and at a price that is far more than what your device is actually worth.
My story:  My daughter accidentally dropped the iphone and the display and the back of the phone cracked.  We called Asurion and they agreed to replace the phone with a REFURBISHED model at a cost of $170.  As if the high monthly premiums of $13.00 per month were'nt bad enough, I had to fork over $170 for a REFURBISHED PHONE and give them the broken one.  Now, here is the RIPOFF PART--A BROKEN iphone of the type that my daughter had is worth only about $40.00 (in EXCELLENT CONDITION it's worth about $80.00). The net result is that I was forced to pay $210.00 for a replacement phone that is only worth $80.00:
                                                   I PAID                                                  ASURION'S COST
                        Premiums         $312.00                                                             0
           Replacement Phone        $170.00                                                       $ 80.00
           Returned Phone              $ 40.00                                                       ($ 40.00)
           Total                               $522.00                                                       $ 40.00
So it cost me a total of $522.00 to replace an iphone that was only worth $40.00 in its broken state.  In the meantime, Asurion made a profit of $482.00 off me and provided absolutely NO SERVICE FOR THE MONEY AT ALL. People please believe me-- Consumer Reports is right-- you DON'T need this ripoff insurance.  If you have APPLE products, please buy the APPLECARE. If other, look into extended warranty or even contact your homeowner or renter's insurance agent first. Don't let Verizon agents talk you into this garbage. It's worthless trash and the customer service STINKS!  For example, I just learned that my daughter's phone is covered under her student insurance.  For the love of heaven, GET RID OF ASURION. It's a SCAM and a ripoff.  I am considering legal action against them for this. . .

Bingo Brensgrrl!  Asurion is total garbage and Verizon is in bed with them.
    (1) While pitching to make a sale, a Verizon rep clearly spelled out that if you paid for the full coverage, you would be 100% covered if your phone was lost, damaged or stolen.  My fiance was right there --- she can vouch for all of this.  Who pays for coverage if the deductible is greater than the cost of replacement?  Total fraud ---> an intentional misrepresentation meant to induce reliance that causes damages.
    (2) After more than 3 years of paying for this "coverage," my phone starts malfunctioning to the point it won't work.  My Verizon phone had malfunctioned from the start, but those issues were semi-manageable --- but now the phone is hardcore flat-lining.  So I bring it in to Verizon to get that squared away thinking it'd be no problem, and that I was finally grateful to have paid for years of full coverage.
    (3) Guess what?  Verizon says it's not their problem --- you need to go through "Asurion" plus there'll be a substantial fee charged after it had been previously represented that I paid years for full and total coverage.  I'd never even heard of this third party "Asurion" --- my Verizon rep pitched it as if anything happens to your phone or it craps out ---- you're 100% covered.  Wrong.
    (4) Predictably, I go to Asurion - and they insist it's a Verizon issue, and it's not their problem.
Both sides say take it up with the other guy - not our problem.  Nice.
One other thing:  the Verizon staff, including the manager, were cackling and snickering throughout this whole process - including the waste-of-time call to "Asurion."  Apparently, it was quite amusing that another customer was getting hosed.
Completely worthless.  Garbage.  Utter trash.  Asurion is just a money pit with zero benefit.  And avoid Verizon - they intentionally deceive you for monetary gain.  And evidently, they feel customers being upset over this bait and switch tactic is rather hilarious.  Nice bed partners, huh?

  • Buyer Beware: Insurance may not be worth it. Verizon doesn't honor loyalty. I report, you decide.

Asurion Insurance may not be worth it, and Verizon doesn't stand by it's loyal customers.
I've had a Motorola Droid (Original) for 2 years, and my contract just ended this month (March 2012).  My Droid's screen no longer accepts my touches.  After several reboots, battery removals, resets etc, the phone still won't recognized screen touches.  The Verizon rep at the store didn't know how to deal with it either.  "Sorry dude." was the reply.
We went over options of getting a new phone like the iPhone 4s or Droid Maxx etc, or doing an insurance claim. (I'm waiting a few months to see if the iPhone 5 is going to be worth another 2 year stretch). I was informed by the rep in the store and a rep on the phone that I would have to pay a deductible of $89 if I wanted to go that route.  So here's where I have an issue.  If I've had a phone for two years that by this time is obsolete, no longer sold and the model is worth a fraction of its original value, and if I've paid 6.99/mo for 24 months ($167.76), does it make sense for me to pay an additional $89.00 (= total of $256.76) deductible for a rehab'd old Droid?  Which is what was explained to me I may get.  "We have no control over the phone you receive". (new or refurbished)  So for me it's definitely not woth it.
I tried explaining this to the Verizon rep in the store and on the phone and they weren't sympathetic or possessed business savvy enough (or had the permission).  I was referred to Asurion, (as expected) and the Asurion rep jumped the price of the deductible up to $99.00.  The Verizon phone rep, and the Asurion phone rep both repeated to me several times "according to the contract that YOU agreed on, we will charge you $89.00/$99.00..."  The Verizon rep dumped me off on Asurion saying it's their insurance contract so I'd have to deal with them, since I didn't want to pay the deductible. The Asurion rep was just as "pass the buck" with "it's a contract you agreed to with Verizon not us," mentality.   Right away I called back to Verizon to get rid of my $6.99 insurance and they deleted it off my account.
Even when I informed them that I'm no longer under contract (I was even nice about it) and can go anywhere else the reply was "that's your decision."  Too bad for Verizon that they don't stand by their customers. Too bad for Verizon wireless their attitude is "if you want to leave, don't let the door hit you on the way out." I can tell this was something the reps are trained to say and say it often; their responses were automatic, sounded rehearsed and robotic.
I've been with Verizon for over 4 years (at least) so this attitude is a bit of stab in the back.  It's not good Verizon chose not to honor loyalty and stick by a customer who has completed at least two contracts.  Good news is, in this competitive environment, I can go anywhere for a phone, and service.
I can understand if you just bought a phone that's normally $500.00 retail (no contract) and it went bad.  Paying an $89-$99 insurance deductible is possibly reasonable depending on the circumstances, but not in my situation nor in other loyal customer situations in similar situation.
My take on it is;  find out about the manufacturer's warranty on a phone first before buying a phone.  The amount you'd pay for monthly insurance and deductible costs may not be worth it.  You may be better off having the manufacturer replace the phone, or just buying a new phone anyway.  Again...depending on your circumstances.
Good news is, I'm no longer under contract and looking around.  My girlfriend is with Sprint and they've replaced two defective phones with NO CHARGE at all.  Looks like I'll be looking at Sprint's website after this.

It amazes me how people can either sign up for something and not read/learn about it, or just assume that the terms will be ignored if they file a claim.
If I have a $500 deductible on my car and get in an accident, I will be paying that $500 deductible if my car is 1 month old or 10 yrs old. NO DIFFERENCE and my Honda dealership is not going to intervene with my insurance agent to see if "something can be done"!!!!!!!!
And yes, Assurion is a SEPARATE company from Verizon. They also provide insurance for other cellular providers such as

  • How and why would insurance coverage be dropped from my plan?

Wife had issue with phone that the insurance plan we signed up and paid for but upon going to a store they said we do not have coverage.  What have I been paying for I am ready to get lawyers and take Verizon to court for this horrible business, we have always expressed a great desire to be on insurance for both our phones in our plan.  Now Verizon is trying to pull this **, very frustrating and poor way to conduct business especially when it is a very competitive market.

Verizon's insurance is Asurion.  You can call them and they will tell you when the insurance started and stopped or if you ever had it on that line. Asurion's number is  888-881-2622.
If you HAD Verizon's insurance and you now don't it sometimes falls off when you make a change to your account. Hopefully you notice it and get it corrected before you have a claim.
You can also lose Verizon/Asurion insurance If you have multiple claims in 12 months.  With 2 claims your insurance can be cancelled on the line with the multiple claims.  Asurion only allows you to have 2 claims for replacement in 12 months.
Verizon only allows you to add insurance during open enrollment or up to a certain time after you first activate a phone.
To get insurance on the line outside of the open enrollment period you have to remove the phone and then activate a new phone on the line, and then add the insurance then.
If like the Verizon rep suggested and you purchased your phone from one of their partners like Radio Shack, Best Buy, or Wirefly they offer their own insurance and bill you separately-- like an autodraft from your bank account.
You may still have insurance even though it is not with Verizon/Asurion.  You just need to find out with which company. Check your bank statements, or the company you purchased the phone from.  I know that the Wirefly insurance has no deductible, but the moment you file one claim it is cancelled and you can't add it back on.

  • Should I get insurance on my iphone 6?

Should I choose to get insurance with my iphone 6? I am going to be ordering one and also getting a Lifeproof case. Would it still be a  good idea to get insurance? I'm trying to lower my bills, but also don't want to be left with a busted expensive as can be phone if something did happen to it. What is the replacement price on an iphone 6 if you have to use the insurance?

As you figure out the numbers consider this:
To have Apple replace your IP6 screen if only the screen is busted - $109
To have Apple replace your IP6 if you break it more than just the screen - $299
    OR
AppleCare+ for $99 for 2 year warranty with damage replacement for $79. Does not cover loss or theft.
I personally find the Verizon Asurion insurance to not be a good bargain and would go with AppleCare+ or save up the money and save it if you would need to do up to a $299 replacement.
Paying for Asurion at the $7/month plan you would pay $168 over 24 months. If you needed a replacement it would be up to $199 deductible. So if you broke you phone halfway through the 24 months, it could cost $283. That is why it makes sense to me to self insure and then at the most you would pay is $299 and be out $16. But if you don't break it, you would save $168.

  • Apple Care and Asurion?

I've had my iphone 4s since May 2012 and have had Verizon's Asurion insurance to cover me in case of damage. A friend recently gave me Apple Care Protection Plan as a gift. Can I activate this Apple Care in addition to the insurance I have through Asurion? Will I have double protection or does one cancel the other out?
    Thanks!

Apple Care can only be added during the first year, while the original warranty is still enforced. Apple Care+ has to be added within, I believe, 30 days. Even if you could activate Apple Care, it doesn't cover damage or loss/theft. Apple Care+ covers damage but not loss or theft.

  • Newer droid wet - no insurance - what to do...?

My razr maxx went into the lake  last month. I got it all dry in rice and 90 degree weather. Now the white light will come on along with a boot screen, but it will not charge. I thought I could send it to Motorola and pay for the repair but no.  I know I read about a factory programming cable to charge it with, but none of the phone stores I have asked even know what I am talking about. Is that worth trying to find?  Should I just give up at this point?  And if so what are good options for finding an affordable replacement phone. Yes I have learned my lesson and now have insurance   thanks for any help!

you can get another phone for cheap. Make sure the phone is functional and not on the lost or stolen list. I have read the site I gave you checks that out in advance. Always be careful in any online transaction.
For the record the Asurion insurance is useless. You have to pay a deductible up front to have them send you a second hand junker. Or a different model phone if they don't have one of yours available.
Also be careful shipping it back, like verizons "we never received it back scam" I have read Asurion also pulls that scam.
Get it with tracking and pay for the extra insurance against loss or theft or damage so you will not get scammed.
    Good Luck

  • Is it a time frame on adding insurance to your phone?

Is it a time frame for adding insurance to your phone?

Good question, Marleygirl. Insurance can be added within 30 days after a brand new phone is activated. There's more information about Asurion Insurance at http://bit.ly/07CrqPK.

I use the Asurion insurance through Verizon (is that the other easy around? Oh, well..). $7.99 a month, pay $90 for a LOST, STOLEN, OR DAMAGED phone.
It's definitely been worth it for me.

  • My phone problem

    My Phone Problem
In April 2013 I signed 2 year with me and my wife.
I picked an HTC android phone that they had offered when
you sign up for I think $50-100.
In November I accidentally cracked the screen. I went to the
local store where I bought the plan and they checked my account and saw that I
had insurance. Then they made sure I did not enter the pool of people being
helped in the store and gave me a pamphlet and said to call this number and
they will help you. I felt a little pawned off but thought ok this is how its
done so lets call them and they supposidly overnight you a new phone after you
pay $100. I'm not even gonna go into the paying $100, my problem was worse
    here, the $100 was nothing.
I went home and called the number but it would not ever let
you talk to anyone and it kept saying to do it online. So I filled out the
claim online.  I got the new phone right
away but it would not hold a charge. I tried the new charger it came with, the
old charger, then I switched batteries from the old phone and it still would
not hold a charge. I could charge the battery in the old phone and put the
battery in the new phone and it would drain right away. So I look at a few
threads and there seems to be an issue with this phone and something about the
charging port. So I go back to the store and they listen to me and use their
charger/tester on the phone and say yes we agree it is not charging. They said
I have to wait the two years to get the upgrade or they could finance me(make
payments) for a new one. I politely explained I don't think I should have to
pay $500 for a new phone because I happened to pick a crappy one that you
offered in your store. Then they told me to call the insurance number again and
    escorted me to the door!
So I call the number again and they run you around on all
kinds of automated questions and make you give them numbers off of the phone
and after about an hour I got to talk to someone. He then very procedurally
made me plug the phone in the charge and tell him if the charge light and the
meter in the menus says its charging. I explained yes, but that's the problem
it looks like it's charging and it actually is not charging cause the battery
power decreases. I told him I went to the local store to confirm this and they
agreed. He then told me I would have to leave it on the charger for a couple of
hours at least before using it and that's all he can do and to call back in a
few hours if it does not work. What do you do when the store you went to does
not want anything to do with your problem and the insurance service guy won't
listen? My last effort was to call verizon and tell them the story and if they
cannot help me fix this situation I'm leaving. They lady was nice and said she
was going to put me on with the insurance company again and I thought oh great,
I could have done this. But the insurance person did not take me through any
tests or questions they just set up the shipment of another phone.
Not to mention that while all this was going on I was trying
to use the old cracked phone to charge the battery then take it out and put in
the new broken phone that would not charge and used up the battery quickly.
A few things out of all this....
I have a bad taste in my mouth in general regarding
Verizon and service. Really? Upgrading my phone a little earlier is that big of
a deal? I pay this company $180 a month for me and my wife. I was millimeters
away from going to ATT and saying SeeYa at whatever costs.
That local verizon store is evil, is that how everyone
elses service is at the local store? Let me know.
That Asurion insurance service that you pay $5 or 6 a
month for is a fricken joke.
The whole experience was bad and I cannot wait til my
contract is up or until I have another problem, cause I'm outta there.

This is my point, the overall degradation and acceptance of poorer and poorer customer service.
Yes I broke my phone. But listen, I thought there was a good chance I might break my phone in a couple of years, I'm a clutz! But that is why I bought insurance and have paid for it every month to Verizon!
But when I went to the Verizon store I was basically pushed out and one time just about walked out. And I am a very non confrontational person, I acted completely professionally, they just did not want to help me. Their attitude towards anyone that has insurance, IS ALREADY A VERIZON CUSTOMER, and has a phone problem is to push them on, and ask for "NEXT". Because they know I am locked in a contract.
Take a look at society and how people are doing business these days, it is so self service, they don't even want to deal with you, they give you a website. Or in this case a phone number which then referred me to a website.
People we are paying good hard earned money for these services and I just think we are falling into the thinking of the masses and "that's how it is so accept it" in this self serve society.
Yes, Asurion initially did not handle this well, and I indicated this on their serve.
But My main complaint is the overall customer service, or lack their of, with my Carrier who I signed up for this insurance with and whom I pay dearly.
I want people to know so maybe they can make an informed decision next time they need to.

  • Is it possible to backup my iPhone without getting into the phone?

I have a white iPhone 5c 16GB. It's my second time owning one, and the current one I have is from Asurion insurance company. I have heard those have been refurbished, so when I received my current phone I felt like it had already been old. iPhones don't have long life spans, for one. I would drop it a couple times and the edge of the screen would pop out but i would just push it back in using some force. Another problem it had is that it would die even when it had about 30% of battery left. Earlier today, it did the same. Trying to get my charger, the phone accidentally fell off of the bed while it was dead. As usual i check for cracks or the screen popping out and that didn't happen. I charged it and when i tried going on my phone I was only able to use half of the screen. The other half was covered in those lines that appear when the screen is damaged. My immediate reaction was to plug it into my laptop to backup the phone before more damage happened to the phone but I had procrastinated on updating itunes. It took about two hours for iTunes to completely download. Meanwhile the screen had just completely failed on me showing only the colorful lines, but i was still receiving calls and the phone could still vibrate, i just couldn't see or check anything at all. Once i was going to back it up, itunes said my phone was in recovery mode and that i had to restore my phone. I have precious photos that i want to keep when i get a new phone. Is it possible to backup the phone without using itunes and just using icloud? its saying my phone is connected yet im unable to see any proof of that other than the sound my laptop makes when i plug it back in. Also, if that doesn't work or is not possible, will i be able to just stick my sim card into a new phone and will i be able to keep my data?

That's what I figured. When i go on icloud it shows the bar of the storage, and since i havent purchased extra, i only have the free 5gb. in icloud the bar shows the amount ive used and it says "backup" on the bar. It's not a link it's just a label. Does that mean it's backed up automatically on icloud?

  • Verizon Makes $90 screw-up and tells us it's our fault

I have a family plan with myself, my wife, my mom and dad.  Last December my Dad got a new phone and had it activated at the verizon store.  He also opted for the 6.99 Asurion insurance. After leaving he kept getting calls from people asking for my wife.  He went back to the Verizon store and they realized they screwed up and activated his phone with the wrong number (my wife's).  They fixed this and he went on his way.
Fast forward 11 months to November and my dad's phone gets broken.  No worries, he has the fancy insurance so he goes to use it and he is told his phone has no insurance at all.  I start looking into it and realize for the past 11 months his 6.99 insurance was going on my wife's phone from when verizon screwed up.  I call verizon the first week of November and am told they will try to get Asurion to swap the plan to his phone and to call back in a few days.  A few days later I call and explain the situation all over again to a very helpful lady but it's obvious nothing was done on the previous call.  They said they will NOW submit the claim to Asurion but they didn't expect the insurance company to accept the claim  (Why should they?  Verizon is the one who screwed up).
I called today to find out Asurion had denied the claim (no surprise).  I then said the very least they could do is refund us the money we've been spending for insurance on that phone (approx $90) that was never applied to the right phone due to their screw-up.  They called later in the day to say they would only refund 3 months worth because we should have been checking our bill.  I do check my bill when there are overages but excuse me I didn't think to check for Verizon's screw-ups!  So their screw-up is now my fault!
Are there any other avenue's I can pursue to file a complaint to get back the money Verizon took from me for a service I never asked for (insurance on my wife's phone)?

Ya. I had found my bank screwed up over 3 years ago and it ended up costing me like $150 over those years, but they only went back 3 months and refunded me like $18. When I requested to withdraw every penny they sent me over to a V.P. for customer retention that asked me what he could do to keep me. I said give me my $132 you stole. He said no. I got my money and left that bank forever and told everyone I knew. The banks still there and I still tell my story. I'm sure it's cost them thousands of dollars of those that didn't get accounts there but apparently they didn't care.

  • Options after new phone stolen (had for two weeks), and refurb doesn't work?

Back in November, I ran into some bad luck with Best Buy phone insurance, and wasn't due for an upgrade with Verizon until March.  Long story short, I went into a Verizon store on Black Friday weekend to see what my options were, and walked away with a brand new Droid Maxx for only $40.  It counted as my new upgrade, and I was thrilled.
Not two weeks after purchasing the new phone, it was stolen from me.  I contacted the Asurion insurance company and shelled out $150 to have another phone overnighted to me.  Much to my surprise, they sent me a refurbished Maxx with a small crack in one corner - clearly a great deal older than my two week old stolen phone.  I decided to give the phone a chance, since I didn't have enough money for other options.
Now, nearly three months later, this refurb is not working out at all.  The crack has grown, I can't do any hands free or voice activating calling/navigation, the speakers cut out periodically, and most of the time I can't hear out of them to the point where I have to use speaker phone, and then the people I'm speaking with can't hear me.  To top it off, the usually fantastic and long battery life I enjoyed on the original phone are NOT present on the refurb.  It lasts half as long, when it does bother at all to charge.
I work for a hospital and need to be on call nearly every day, and the needless quirks on this phone are making it very difficult to do so.
I am at my wits end, and would like to know what my options are.  I did not pay almost $200 to insurance to have a subpar refurb for the next two years, and I cannot afford to pay $150 to Asurion for another refurb.  If my money goes anywhere, I would like it to go to something that will last me the next two years. I realize that I am very lucky to even have a nice phone, but it is not meeting my needs and is risking my day job when the hospital can't get ahold of me readily.
What are my options?  I am on  family plan.  Should I pull my number off the plan for my own?  Try to qualify for Verizon Edge?  Or take my number to another provider that will give me a new contract and a new phone?  Thank you for your help in advance!

You should have arranged return of the damaged replacement to begin with right then.  Too late for that though. At this point, you can buy a used phone on Swappa.com or elsewhere that is compatible to Verizon or buy full retail.  I don't they will let you Early Edge right now being so close to having just upgraded.
