***Attention Pro's***

Hello, not sure if i'm in the right area for this... here goes:
I have, an iMac 24, wiith a 17" external display and a 14" iBook G4. I use logic to to compose to film, i know that you can use a G4 in conjunction with a Mac Mini as a node.
Now, what i would like to do, is use the 24"display for my arrange page, the 17" for my mixer and then use the ibook to play the video.
Is this at all possible with a networking cable, so as i pressed play in logic, it would tell the quicktime movie to play on the iBook?
Not a clue if i could do this.
Regards

Why would the app be running in Rosetta?
Good question. Rosetta is designed to be transparent, i.e. take over automatically if a PPC application is being run. When the Intel machines were first introduced, a number of Internet plug-ins were not yet converted to Universal Binary. Hence, the option of running Safari in Rosetta mode was important.
I can only speculate why Safari was set to Rosetta mode on the one machine. It may have been set that way at the factory, or E.T's may be hacking into your machine. But forget that last comment, as I don't want to initiate any conspiracy theories in the forums.
Good luck with your new machines.
Thanks for the and Aloha from Big Island.

  • Slow motion (constant speed) rendering problem. ATTENTION PROs!

I have tried almost everything to try and fix my problem and now I am going insane!
I am editing a short promo featuring constant speed adjustments and video filters. When I render the video seems to drop frames and jutter. Why is this when i have only reduced the speed of the clips by 50% or 75% ? ?
I have put it through compressor several times and printed the video onto DVD to see if the problem lies within any other program, but i believe my problem is with final Cut HD.
The footage is HDV interlaced. I have made sure the frame blending options are checked although this makes no difference and have rendered it I dont know how many time.
Do I need to bring the original rushes out of the bin and adjust the speed again from scratch...essentially start again?
    HELP! I am going mad!
Mac Book Pro (2ghz intel / 2gb memory)   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Final Cut Studio HD

    I have done it!
I firstly made a quicktime movie, using current settings, to create a single HDV clip. I then created a new sequence, titled HDV, and opened up the sequence settings. Going into the video processing tab I changed field dominance to 'upper odd' and motion to 'best'. I then dropped the new HDV clip into the timeline. At this point I sent this new clip to Compressor and chose the 'best quality 90min 16/9', MPEG 2 two pass + Dolby. EXPORT....HAPPY DAYS! The results are great. Perhaps I could make it better by stopping the footage down to SD first?

  • ***Attention Pro's*** Synchronization

    Hello friends.
I have a new iMac 24" (with an external 17"monitor), iBook G4 and various MIDI controllers.
I compose to film, what I would like to do is connect the two macs together (via Ethernet) and have one Logic session loaded on both computers. So that when i record, the iMac will run the program in record mode and the iBook will play the video.
Is this possible? especially because one is a PowerPC and the other Intel?
From reading other threads I understand this may be achieved using the MTC?
This way i get to have three screens running simultaneously.
    Kind Regards
p.s. I havent tried anything yet because i don't want to screw up my settings.

When I try to migrate from imac to macbook pro my user account says "this user needs attention before migrating". My e-mail does not migrate in the process. This never happened before I updated to Maverick. I have repaired user permissions but this not make any difference

Just a Follow-up - the migration went fine. The migration did not import Little Snitch, Flip4Mac and DivX, stating they were incompatible.  It also reported that Intego Back up Assistant has improper security setting (which I have not yet investigated).
I am encountering small problems.  Safari would not open embedded pdf documents and instead showed a black screen.  This was fixed with instructions found at http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/display-pdf-browser-acrobat-xi.html and it now works fine.
Importing 17 years of old mail from Eudora to Apple Mail was time consuming. mostly because of the pre-migration preening i did, but using Eudora file cleaner before the migrtaion helped a lot.
I amy find some more glitches, but so far everything seems to be working.

  • Attention people who use their macbook pro in their lap

I use my laptop extensively in my lap. I tend to have my macbook pro slanted slightly to the right about 20 degrees or so when i am using it. I noticed last night that i have a [edit - repeated clicking] clicking noise coming from the left whenever my laptop is held like this for a little bit. it goes away when i make it level or if i turn the fans up about 1500 rpms. I also have the speakers turned off so its not that. has anybody else noticed this or have any idea what it might be?
    Message was edited by: thirdeyeopen23

It's the sudden motion sensor detecting the g-force change as it shifts around on your lap, and parking the hard drive heads.
It seems quite sensitive, but if you think about it, it needs to detect a change of +/- 1G, which would indicate that the laptop has suddenly entered free-fall and might be about to land with a bang. If you have a play around with SeisMac (Google it) while moving your MBP around you might be surprised at how gently you can move it and still register a 1G swing.
It can't wait for the impact before parking the heads, as by then it would be too late.

  • Unique problem, never seen, attention all macbook "pro's"

Posted: Mon Aug 25, 2008 6:32 am Post subject: i really hope no1's experienced what i'm experiencing.
    Hey guys
I've recently purchased myself a DVI to VGA adapter to connect my macbook 13inch to my 17inch LCD
it was going smooth for the first couple of weeks then one day
i take my macbook to university just using the battery and the screen turns on momentarily then just blinks off
then i come home, take the battery out and put a power adapter in, and the macbook works fine
i then plug in the VGA adapter, still fine.
so now i take the power adapter out, leave the VGA one in, and put a battery in,
and i find that only the LCD monitor seems to work whilst my macbook LCD stays blank (even if both the power adapter and battery are in)
    please help out =(

Try this: on the external monitor > Apple Menu > Sleep.
Allow the monitor to go to sleep.
Making sure the Macbook is open, click or type using the trackpad/KB. This should wake up both monitors, presuming this is the problem.

  • Korg M3 / Logic 8 Pro / Synchronizing ATTENTION! KORG M3 HELP.

I am having problem synchronizing my Korg M3 with Logic. I would like to use the Korg as the master and Logic as the slave (I would like to the transport bar on my Korg to control the transport bar on Logic 8 i.e start/stop + rec) but its not working.
I have the keyboard connected via USB and an MBox 2 sound card. I have also connected midi cables from my Korg to my midi device (Midisport in - out & out - in) this is connected to my computer via USB.
As far as I know the only possible way to synchronize them both (logic & Korg) would be MIDI Clock. On the Korg/ MIDI page in global mode, I set MIDI Clock to "internal" and I set seq mode to "for master" instead of "external sequencer".
I have A feeling In Logic My synchronizing settings maybe wrong. In Logic on the "MIDI" tab in the synchronizing settings, I have activated the MIDI Clock section. Destination 1 is ticked and my MIDI device is selected. MIDI Time Code, MMC are all unticked.
PLEASE HELP!!! I KNOW ITS A LOT!
    Thank You
    Raptor

Firstly, I would not recommend running Logic as a slave like this. Logic is a complex device that has to do a lot, like playback stable sample rate audio, so syncing it to something as low res and jiter prone as MIDI clock is not ideal. Logic will freewheel between clock bytes, but even so.
Don't confuse which device is initiating a "play" command with which device is the master. You can quite happily have an external device, set as a slave to Logic, that sends a play command to Logic, starts Logic playing, then receives the sync from Logic and starts playing as a slave.
Anyway, if you want Logic to run as a slave, you don't need to do much, just put Logic into External Sync mode (or enable auto-sync in). (Right-click on the Sync button on the transport for sync options). The SPL area will turn blue to let you know you are in external sync mode. Then just send it whatever your clock is. MTC is preferable over MIDI clock.

  • Hp officejet pro 8500 premier all-in-one printer

The above printer is 1 1/2 years old and it has stopped printing.  When the printing became light, I installed new print cartridges less than a week ago.  Now, after five days, the printer is consistently cleaning the print heads and aligning the print heads and my documents are not being printed.  And, what is most frustrating, during all the cleaning and aligning, all of my new ink is gone and I'm receiving a message replace ink cartridges.
Re: Problem with HP Officejet Pro 8500 printer: cleans printheads every time it's turned on

    Well,
to this is say, "get used to it", or throw it away.  Many, Many, Many people have had trouble with this printer.
The following are common and frustrating issues that this printer exhibits on a regular basis:
    1.  Constant Self-Checking (usually every 20-30 pages of print)
    2. Very persistant Printhead Cleaning/Checking, (Every startup and after about 20-30 pages printed).
    3. Worn-out printheads (usually within 1,100 to 1,500 pages printed).
    4. Paper mis-feeds.
    5. Paper jams.
    6. Nearly impossible to use once the printer reports ink-depletion.
    7. Nearly impossible to use CIS Ink for larger print jobs.
    8. Ink and printheads "expire" regardless of when they are placed into service. (get a deal on ink or printheads last year?  Too bad, the warranty is already expired, most likely).
In short, this printer is the most EXPENSIVE printer I've ever owned, and the most frustrating to use.
I have just over 2,000 pages of regular text printed matter with very little color, and have already gone through 4 sets of ink, and 2 sets of PrintHeads.
Although it's true that you can leave the unit on, and let it go into standby, you should NOT be punished with constant and time-consuming "self-checking" everytime it's turned on, or prints a handful of pages, BUT, it does NOT appear that HP will be standing behind this printer disaster.  AND, to make things worse, they've gone on to redesign it, giving it a different look, and so there are about 6 different models/versions of the OfficeJet Pro 8500.
Anyone needing a reliable print/fax/scan/copy solution should look beyond this printer, because it will leave you wanting more, and spending more than you ever imagined you would have to on a late model printer.ro
What is going on?  Why does it just automatically clean and align?  I also get alignment failed messages.  Any suggestiions?

    rammerjammer,
Thank you for bringing this to my attention, your feedback is very important and I want to do my best to help.  To answer what is going on, since the printing became light, started cleaning itself constantly, and fails the alignment, the printhead was damaged.  Click here to see and use the Limited Warranty for HP Ink Cartridges, Printheads, and Related Supplies.  There are many ways to contact HP.  The number to call is 1-800-474-6836 for HP and Compaq products for Home & Home Office use.  If you no longer have a warranty with the printer you can still use the warranty that comes with the printhead or ink cartridges.
If you have a carepack with the printer that extended the one year warranty then the troubleshooting will be covered along with the printer if the printer needs replacing.  Check product warranty here, see HP Out of Warranty Support Options for Select HP Consumer Printers here.
To order a new printhead you can go to HP Sure Supply and enter your printer or go to the HP Parts Store and order the printhead by part number C4900A for the Black and yellow and part number C4901A for the Cyan Magenta.  These printheads go by region also so be sure you are using the right region, these were found using the United States region.
The HP Officejet Pro 8500 Premier All-in-One printer has separated the ink cartridges from the printheads.  The ink cartridges are on the lower left and the removable print heads are on the carriage inside the printer.  The printer goes through a calibration process when turned on that will use ink.  Leave the printer on and let it go into stand by mode.  This type of printer is energy star efficient and made to calibrate on start up and be left on.  Allow the printer to clean or calibrate only if the printer must.  If it starts cleaning a lot it may be time to do a little maintenance to the printer (recommend once a month for maintenance).  Please see the following links for further details.

Printer Paper Tears, Wrinkles, or is Damaged while Printing from the All-in-One

The printer has a duty cycle of 7.5k page/month.  The XL cartridges have a composite page yield of 1.4k pages with about a third of the black ink left over.  To me it would seem that the printhead should last somewhere in between.  This printer was designed to save money on ink compared to the rest of the officejets.  I hate that it has been causing so much trouble, hopefully the information I provided will help.

  • MacBook Pro 15" (Late 2013) will not install Windows 8.1 Pro under Boot Camp?

Have spent many hours trying to sort this out. I was told this morning in the end by a 'Senior Advisor' @ Apple that Boot Camp does not support Windows 8.1 Pro so effectively it seems like my only option for a new machine purchased earlier in the week is to return for a refund.
This despite the Apple Spec saying "
Windows 8: Windows 8 or 8.1, Windows 8 or 8.1 Pro (Boot Camp 5 only)"
The subject has been aired in thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5474320?start=585&tstart=0 but it has been suggested I post a fresh thread.
I have purchased a new 8.1 Pro license, so this is not an upgrade. I have followed the Boot Camp instructions, including getting the update for this model spcifically, but the nearest I got to a successful install returns soemthing of the like 'Unable to update boot settings' or the like and installation cancels. My machine is a mess I guess now, but in a final effort - does anyone have the step by step 'idiots guide' to working through the setup successfully? I don't want to get involved in massses of messing around with files as this should clearly not be necessary for achieving an advertised solution on a new machine bought within the last week should it?
Appreciate any help - I have up to seven more days left in my option to return for a full refund..... and maybe buy a Dell instead?
PS : We have many Apple products, Air, ipads and iphones so would dearly like to sort this out if possible.
    Thanks for any help...

8/8.1 will install fine but there's some stuff you need to do before starting to ensure no issues
    purchase a retail 8/8.1 license
use only a USB2 flash drive
    get a clean 8 or 8.1 ISO
newer machines are more selective with the ISO for some reason (ISOs that worked to install Windows on many different older Macs would not work)
if you've made lots of changes, hacks and adjustments trying to get this work on your own, you should clean install OSX first, do not restore from time machine and start at step 3 to get Windows installed, you can go back later and copy files back to OSX
if you want to try without clean installing OSX, here goes
open boot camp assistant (bca) and choose option 3 ONLY if it reads 'remove/delete' Windows
open disk utility (du) and confirm that your HD now only has 1 single partition ('macintosh HD' unless you've renamed it)
restart machine and do a PRAM reset
open du and repair permissions TWICE
open bca and choose all 3 options (create, download, install)
from here, the process follows the standard boot camp instructions (http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1636/en_US/boot_camp_install-setup_ 10.8.pdf) but pay attention to step 3 where you do have to manually reformat the boot camp partition
    clean ISOs
