  • Airport/Surround Sound Latency Issue

I just set up a new surround sound system and am streaming iTunes through both my computer speakers and adjacent surround sound (Bose hooked up to a Yamaha BRX-610). Airport Express is connected to the receiver via standard audio cable hookup. Previous stereo had no delay, but I now have maybe a .5-1 second delay between the computer and the new surround sound.
Anyone have any thoughts, ideas or fixes?
    Thanks

Right now its using the analog. There is an input for optical but I have it connected to something else. Would this be causing the issue?
Possibly. The digital audio stream arriving at the Express would need to be converted to analog signal via a DAC internal to the Express prior to it being output on the base station's audio port. That conversion may be the cause of the delay.
The other cause would be the potential of Wi-Fi interference where it would introduce a significant enough level of noise to reduce the overall bandwidth ... and, in turn, potentially causing this issue as well.

  • Want to hook up itouch to my surround.  Any issues?

Hi, I am preparing to hook up my iPod touch to my surround system for a party. I am planning to use the 1/8" headphone jack and use an adapter to go to a split RCA jack into the surround cd,phono or tape input. Has anyone had any experience with this? I don't want to have any issues and find out the hard way. Any comments would be appreciated.

Should work fine but you might want to stick with the CD or Tape input selections. Phono usually goes into a preamp.

  • Anyone Really Know How to Sync with iTunes

I have used the iPhone and iTunes for quite some time, but one thing continues to aggravate me. I have tried reading across the web for a solution, but I am not finding anything helpful.
First, I have an iPhone 3Gs running Firmware 3.1. I am also running the newest version of iTunes. Second, I actually use two Macs. My office computer is a MacPro and my home computer is a MacBook Pro. Running Snow Leopard on both. As I use both computers quite evenly, sometimes I make iTune store purchases at work and sometimes at home.
The wall I hit is the iPhone doesn't seem to want to sync to multiple computers. Primarily I will use my home MacBook Pro for all of my syncing. But let's say for example, I purchase a movie on iTunes at work. I want it on my iPhone, so I plug it in. I instantly get a message telling me if I want to update my movies on the iPhone, it will erase everything that is already there. Does this mean if I ever want music, tv shows, movies, etc on the iPhone, I need to purchase them from one machine only? It is the same account and verification, so why? I am pulling my hair out.
The other strange thing that happens between the iPhone and iTunes, is I select the iPhone in iTunes, go to TV shows (where I happen to have Season 1 of the Office), and it shows up in iTunes as available. In iTunes, under my iPhone, I check that I want the Office synced to my iPhone. I then sync. The process finishes. I go to the iPod app on the iPhone, and under videos - the Office series is not there! It never tells me I cannot sync it. I can watch the Office on the laptop, but the sync doesn't happen.
I have tried the manual only sync, and that doesn't solve the problem either. Two questions kind of surrounding the same issue. Am I missing something?

    MHaddon wrote:
    Am I missing something?
Yes, you are. The iPhone can sync iTunes content (music, videos, apps, podcasts, etc.) from only one iTunes library at a time. If you try to sync content from another iTunes library, iTunes will erase the content from the first computer. It doesn't matter if you have the same iTunes account on both computers or not.
You can use a external HD or a flash drive (or even an older iPod) to move your purchases from one computer to the other (your primary iPhone sync computer). This explains how: iTunes for Mac - How to copy purchases between computers: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1373

  • HP Mediasmart DVD on a6750t will not output 5.1 channel data via SPDIF or HDMI

So I got a new customized HP desktop on Friday. Started to play with it on Saturday. I called Sunday morning to request an RMA number and return shipping label. Here is my saga:
Started HP issue calls at 3:47am FEB 15th 2009
Gion (per rep spelling) stated return will be handled through warrantee/support department). He stated HP does not allow them to release a badge number. Ticket# xxxxxx3374.
    (Transferred to warrantee/support department)
(The line was full of static- asked for the 800 to call back. Person said he didn’t have the number I called in on. Had to log on to www.hp.com. Found the number to call was 1 (800) 474-6836. I called this number.)
Satya (per rep spelling) answered the line. I informed rep that I am not receiving any 5.1 output from the Blu-ray disk software that was provided by HP (HP Mediasmart DVD). Advised him that all MS products, DVD's, and HD devices were sending 5.1 channel output to my Yamaha receiver. [DVD’s are the important part. As the same drive is used for BOTH DVD and Blu-Ray, it is my opinion that the hardware is working fine.] I reiterated many times that the only thing not sending 5.1 channel data was the HP MediaSmart DVD software player for Blu-Ray disks.
Satya ran various tests and wanted to “call back tomorrow with a solution“. He seemed to think that perhaps there was a problem with hardware and possibly I had not received something in my order.
I clearly started I wanted a RMA number and I wanted to return the product. Satya refused saying he had to "research" the problem before he could issue the RMA number and return the product. He said he would call me between 2pm and 5pm tomorrow (MST) (I informed him it was currently 4:49 am at my location.)
The problem is not with the hardware. All Microsoft software products that offer 5.1 channel support are sending via SPDIF (optic cable) 5.1 channel data. Again, all DVDs and other 5.1 devices (HD PVR) are sending (via SPDIF) 5.1 channel data to my Yamaha receiver. The only thing not outputting in 5.1 is the Blu-ray disk software player (HP Mediasmart DVD). DVD’s are ran using the Blu-ray drive (only one on the system) and are sending 5.1 channel data with no issues.
Ended HP issue calls 4:52am FEB 15th 2009
So, any other suggestions? I have tried various things like HDMI-Passthrough, HDMI-PCM, SPDIF, and 6 speaker output on the HP MediaSmart DVD Blu-ray software player application to no avail.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    FEB 16th 2009 1:15 am
Decided to try some trial Blu-ray programs to see if this issue can indeed be resolved with a different software package.
Corel’s WinDVD9 would not play a Blu-ray disk. I received no errors. The program loaded the disk, after about 10 seconds stopped and went back to the main screen.
Cyberlink PowerDVD had a trial limitation that does not allow Blu-ray disk playback.
ArcSoft TotalMedia Theater (TMT) works flawlessly. Outputs in 5.1 surround with no issues, therefore my assumption that it’s a software issue is correct.
Due to the problem being software related, I will call HP to see if there is a way they can send me a different Blu-ray software player. I like the system and do not really want to ship this back to HP. There is a sale tomarrow and I might even buy another system for my mother if HP will work this out.
HP call start at 2:06 am FEB 16th 2009
Called 1 (800) 474-6836. Satya answered the line. He asked if his supervisor had called me. I stated no, I had only received his call at 7:47pm and I had placed a call to Bridgette at 8:37 pm for a RMA number and shipping label.
I advised him I was willing to try and work with HP now that I found it was indeed a software issue. I asked him if there was a possibility of getting a different software player that would work with my setup. I advised that on my own I found that ArcSoft TotalMedia Theater (TMT) trial version works (based on me installing a trial version). Its my understanding that HP provides many software titles from ArcSoft including a MediaConverter I also purchased for the desktop.
He placed me on hold to find out.
He said HP doesn’t carry or support ArcSoft TotalMedia Theater. He said he would have a supervisor call me back within 24 hours with a solution. I advised him to stop the RMA. He stated an RMA had not been issued yet. I gave him the RMA number I had and advised I had received a shipping label via email from Bridgette per my earlier call. He placed me back on hold to check.
He said he cancelled the RMA and would have a supervisor call me back between 2pm - 5pm (within 24 hours).
Call ended at 2:34 pm FEB 16th 2009
I am guessing that HP support is not enpowered to solve a problem like mine. I would have been willing to work out something with HP but its is seeming more and more that HP really doesnt want my business. The issue here is software limitation PLAIN AND SIMPLE. I paid (in part) for a Blu-ray player that would play Blu-ray disks and output sound in 5.1. The TRIAL version of ArcSoft TotalMedia Theater works fine. Therefore the hardware is fine.
Without a different software player shipped to me OR me buying the ArcSoft TotalMedia Theater software for 80 dollars, I am forced to listen to Blu-ray disks in 2 channels. I would like to work with HP but if HP will not work with me then I have no choice than to return the product.

  • Can't access MobileMe account on iPhone

    Hi there,
I can't find an answer to this question anywhere here or through a Google search. Does anyone know how to access one's MobileMe account on the iPhone? I've tried everything and all I get is a dialogue box telling me to set up a MobileMe account. I already have one. I can access it via Safari on my new MBP but not on the phone. I've nuked and paved the iPhone, re-installed the software, updated to the latest version and still can't access MobileMe. The iPhone's Mail app works fine, as does Safari, but MobileMe continues to be a Byzantine mystery and Apple's documentation is feeble and hopelessly inadequate. I wouldn't care so much if I wasn't paying big bucks for this service.
I will soon be at sea with no Internet access for the next month, so maybe somebody will have figured something out by then.
    many thanks,
    Michael

Thanks to those who responded to my questions so promptly. Admittedly, some confusion surrounds the syncing issues. For some reason, I thought I could access my Keychain on my iPhone since it is synced with MobileMe in my MobileMe preferences pane on my MBP. Clearly this isn't the case. I have a lot of information stored in Keychain Access in secure notes and I needed to look at one of them via the iPhone while I was on the road. My bookmarks sync. This is where I was led astray. I clicked on my MobileMe bookmark from Safari on the iPhone and that leads me to a page "Looking for me.com?"
    thanks again,
    Michael

  • Mac Mini Late-2012 5.1 Surround Sound Issue

Hey guys, I'm running into some issues setting up 5.1 Surround sound on my mac mini. Heres my setup:
    - Mac Mini -> HDMI -> Projector
    - Mac Mini -> Digital Output (Toslink) -> Surround sound (Logitech Z906)
No matter what settings i try i cannot get 5.1 surround sound working. I've downloaded test tracks from dolby and all. Logitech is set to 5.1 and all. I've attempted to change the setup in audio MIDI to 48khz + 2ch-24Bit Integer , with no success. The 5.1 option inside of configure output is greyed out. Is there something i'm doing wrong? I've tried the 5.1 test tracks from Dolby through VLC.
Please help me, i've been working at this for nearly 2 days now. I've checked other answers with no sucess.
    Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately, there is no configuration option for the S/PDIF interface. The following are the supported output formats:
    2.0 (Stereo L/R)
5.1 (Dolby Digital - DVD bitstream or AC3 encoded containers only via QuickTime or VLC)
5.1 (DTS - DVD bitstream only)
To configure for proper 5.1 use, you need to set DVD Player to use Digital Out (Optical), not the Digital Out (HDMI). To configure VLC you need to set it to use Digital Out also, though you may have to fiddle with it to figure out which digital output is which as VLC's advanced configuration options aren't the most user friendly out there.
Once again, for the S/PDIF interface there are no configuration options available other than Stereo. 5.1 tracks will not play properly unless the apps used to play them back are capable of sending encoded digital audio. Dolby Digital and DTS are bitstream formats (encoded), and as such require that the app can work with those tracks.
Audio MIDI Setup does have the option to manually select Encoded Digital Audio in the format menu, but you should not do so as that disables regular stereo playback. The aforementioned apps will automatically switch between Encoded Digital Audio and Stereo, usually reverting to Stereo when playback is concluded.

  • IPhone 5 audio issues when paired with surround sound via Bluetooth.

iPhone 5 has developed audio issues since ios7 updates when its connected to surround sound system via Bluetooth. Audio jumps and skips in erratic and unpredictable manner on music app and worse on third party apps such as YouTube  . Have restored phone from factory settings etc. Have also checked surround sound for fault with Bluetooth; iPhone 4 ios7 works fine, android works fine but newest iPod touch with ios7 appears to have developed same issue as iPhone 5 since ios7 updates. Advise people to check for this issue on their Bluetooth devices and any advice would be appreciated on this issue  :)

    Hey there Vxas,
It sounds like you are gettings some very unexpected behaviour from the iPhone to your bluetooth surround sound system. I would try the troubleshooting recommended in this article:
iOS: How to troubleshoot Bluetooth connections
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4562
Check that you are in range of the Bluetooth device with which you are trying to pair your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Most Bluetooth devices have a range of approximately 30 feet.
On your iOS device, tap Settings > Bluetooth and find your device in the list. If your device says Not Connected, tap the name of your device to attempt to connect it.
Tap Settings > Bluetooth and turn Bluetooth off and then on again.
Make sure that your Bluetooth accessory is turned on and fully charged or connected to power.
    Restart your iOS device.
Tap Settings > Bluetooth and locate the Bluetooth accessory you are currently connected to or attempting to connect to. Then tap and Forget this Device. Try to pair your Bluetooth accessory again.
Note: You may need to re-enter your Bluetooth accessory PIN if your accessory requires one. Some common PINs are 0000, 1111, and 1234.
Restart your Bluetooth accessory by turning it off and then on again1.
Update your device to the latest version of software. See how to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
If your Bluetooth accessory has upgradeable firmware, check to see that you have the latest version1, 2.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • Surround monitoring issue

    Hi
I have a ASUS P5P43TD PRO mainboard which has 8 channels Audio output and I plugged a five speakers set to the mainboard audio outputs and set the configuration on Realtec options to 5.1 speakers mode.
Then there's no additional audio channel mapping both on Audition And Premiere for surround monitoring, there's only 2 channels appears on channel mapping.
Please help me to find out there's a software problem or hardware issue.
    thanx.

Just to be clear, lots of onboard sound cards have onboard decoders...their prime purpose is for playing back videos.
What they can't do is playback six SEPARATE sound tracks, which is what you would have  in Audition or Premiere since you need to be able to edit these tracks .  The encoding to AC3 or whatever generally comes as the very last stage of audio production, once all the tracks are mixed and finalised.
Alas, if you want to mix surround sound you need the proper tools...and that's more than a 39 cent Realtek chip.
One to watch out for just now is the Tascam US 1800...I don't have one but several friends in the audio game swear by them.  It has plenty of outputs for your needs and, because Tascam are replacing it with an updated model, there are some big discounts to be had if you get in soon.

  • Two issues getting a headless error form windows & my clips audio plays in the preview but not once placed in th timeline. I taped with a panasonic HC 750 V. i believe it is with clips filmed using directed not surround audio.

The title more or less says it all. I have Elements 13 & am Using the Panasonic HC 750V. I shot in AVCHD 1080/60p & instead of surround sound choose the directed feature to focus on the voices in front of me. The audio works in preview but not on the timeline. I am also getting Headless errors when working with premiere that pop up in windows but it does not shut down the system.
    Any help apprecaited.

    pc
Have you updated your Premiere Elements 13 to 13.1 using an opened project's Help Menu/Update. If not, please do so.
Just some points of clarification on the AVCHD 1080/60p with which you are having audio problem in Premiere Elements 13.
    a. I see no option to record to tape with your Panasonic model. Is there one? if not, what was recorded to, a memory card?
    b. When you talk about directed not surround audio, are you saying that your video uses Dolby Digital 2 channel stereo instead of 5.1 channel?
    c. Is your AVCHD footage presented to you as AVCHD.mts rather than AVCHD.mp4. I think that is the case if you are referring to Dolby Digital
    rather than AAC audio.
Are you saying that you get play back video and audio if you double click the video's thumbnail in Project Assets, but you get video but no audio after you drag the file to the Timeline and play back its contents in the Edit area monitor?
    a. Have you checked the Volume control under the Adjust Tab/Adjustments Palette/Volume Panel expanded to make sure the Volume has been taken all the way down? Under that condition, you will get play back in the Preview Window, but no audio from the Timeline level play back in the Edit area monitor.
    b. In that same regard, if you look at the Timeline audio clip, note a yellow orange line that runs horizontally across the duration of the audio clip. Is that at the bottom of the frame or is it in the middle or at the top?
Do you work with the Elements Organizer at all? That Headess issue sounds like an Elements Organizer issue. More on that later. That issue should not prevent you from continuing your work. But we will explore that next.
    Thanks.

  • Several 5.1 Surround Issues

So I have a few issues here, and I only care about getting 1 answer.  I'd like to point out that none of the issues I am getting exist in Windows.  I guess pick whichever of the following you feel most comfortable with:
    1.  Games that are not playing in 5.1 analog surround
    2.  No surround playback in HDMI
    3.  No surround playback in SPDIF
    1.  Games that are not playing in 5.1 analog surround
Since ALSA is probably the most painful thing I've ever tried to configure, I installed pulseaudio to set up my analog surround setup.  This has pretty much worked fine - I can use "speaker-test -c 6" and AC3 files in VLC, and I can hear all the channels play the audio they're supposed to.  The game "Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs" also appears to get surround working, though I had to delete the libopenal.so.1 that it ships with (otherwise it's quadrophonic stereo).
However, I've noticed that's pretty much the only game I own that is playing in true 5.1 surround.  From what I heard, Valve games on linux are known to not work in 5.1, and according to one of the developers of Witcher 2, it is a proven fact that they do not have surround working, but it is being looked into.
However, Borderlands 2 is the next priority on my list, and that appears to only have quadrophonic stereo.  It played with full 5.1 surround in Windows.  Surround sound is the ONLY thing preventing me from ditching this game on Windows.
There are other games that seem to have the same issue as BL2 but they are a lower priority to me.
    2.  No surround playback in HDMI
I am using the open source radeon drivers, but according to pulseaudio, I get ACT, DTS, EAC3, and MPEG support via HDMI audio.  I can play stereo audio files just fine.  However, if I try playing a .ac3 file in VLC, nothing happens.  According to pavucontrol, there is no sound playing whatsoever.  I can try selecting the device from the audio menu, and it just ignores this.  I tried stopping PA and select ALSA HDMI0 from the audio source in VLC and still doesn't play anything (except stereo files).
I can't remember how I did it, but there was a way where I got my receiver to acknowledge the 5.1 surround channels, but, it still didn't play any audio.
But before I even attempt to fix this, does anybody know for a fact if you get TRUE (meaning, not quadrophonic stereo) surround with games via HDMI?  I don't care about setting this up if only VLC is the only program I have that can take advantage of this.
    3.  No surround playback in SPDIF
Just to clarify, if PA is uninstalled, I can get surround playback, but only in VLC.  With PA installed I can play stereo audio just fine but .ac3 files in VLC will not play, and much like my HDMI experience, pavucontrol says there is no sound playing.
I already know that in Linux there's basically no chance of getting SPDIF to work with most games, since there is no option for live DD/DTS encoding.  But, there's a chance that some games do support this, yet I'll never know if PA keeps "muting" AC3 tracks.  Also, my surround receiver supports Pro Logic, Dolby Digital, and other features that really help enhance stereo audio.  You can't get these features in analog.  That being said, I would like to be able to have SPDIF and 5.1 analog output simultaneously, and I can switch between the two based on my current needs.

    See post and technical explanation:
One drawback of surround sound which can lead to problems is that the channel assignment is not standardised (except in the sense that the great thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from). Four channels can represent either 3.1 surround sound (left/right + centre + subwoofer) or 4.0 surround sound (front left/right + surround left/right). Similarly, there are two different conventions for 5.1 surround sound, one upward compatible to 3.1 and one to 4.0. In the first case, the channel order is front left, front right, centre, LFE (low frequency effects = subwoofer), surround left, surround right; in the latter case front left, front right, surround left, surround right, centre, LFE. The latter configuration is the standard under Linux, while the former is common on computer illiterate systems (guess which OS that is...). But reportedly some games assume M$ channel order even under Linux, with the effect that voices of characters behind the player come out of the centre speaker. I do not know about 7.1 channel assignment, but I expect there are the same two configurations, with rear left and right being the last two channels in either case.

  • 5.1 surround issues with Vista 64-

I have browsed these forums extensively and many people have had similar but not identical issues to mine. I have:Vista HP 64-bit, E6600, EVGA 680i MOBO, 4gb corsair, x-fi fatalty platinum, EVGA 8800gts, old logitech 5. speakers I have installed the Creative Vista CD and updated all drivers as of 8-Dec-2007 My issue is: I cannot force mp3s to play through all speakers in mediasource....speakers work in 5. during games and creatives surround testing reveals all speakers are working fine. unfortunately, i have not been able to hear a difference in the CMSS-3d panel. so basically, i have not been able to play music through all of the speakers. is there a way to play mediasource mp3s through all speakers thank you

i am using the champion version...my logitech 5. speakers are capable of prologic 2 - which is currently the only way to get full surround features while playing mp3s off of mediasource. the cmss3d settings and stereo envelopment settings have no discernable effect. i am using the 3 analog cables (center/sub, front r/l, rear r/l) which plug into the command console of the speakers. i recently (yesterday) upgraded from an old audigy 2 platinum card - which would output to all speakers when the speakers were set to six channel direct mode (unlike now). there was also a message that came up from vista which said that "windows has detected that audio enhancements for my creative x-fi powered speakers are causing problems and would i like to disable enhancements." it may have to do with onboard sound which i think has been disabled already - i am going to confirm, install new mobo drivers, and check again. i don't know why the creative cmss functions don't work - they should have an affect, right

  • Audigy 2 zs platnuim surround sound issues in

I just recently installed windows x64 and did all the routine drivers and windows updates that you do in a fresh install. I went to creative web site and pulled the uni-driver for x64 for the audigy 2 zs platnium and loaded it. Then I downloaded the counsel also and persued to set up 6. surround speakers. I can't get the sound to come out of all speakers it's sounds like it would be stuck on 2.
I don't know what i did wrong at all i'm new with x64 and I'm not sure what to do to get my surround sound back. I also downloaded the remote control software and when trying to install that it said it couldnt find it. System is A8v asus AMD3200 windows x64 sata raid dri've western digital, 2 gigs of ram, geforce 6800 gt, and of course the audigy 2 zs platnium.

/Re: Audigy 2 ZS and Surround Mixer in Windows 7? i got problem with recording any sound. Recorded sounds are terrible. Sometimes playing sounds are terrible too. i should restart pc for fix playing terrible sound.
    i found 2 third-party driver but i didnt tried. Because of decription of 3rd-party driver ;
There is no DirectSound hardware acceleration on Windows XP 64-bit (x64)
The Audigy driver does not support 64-bit addressing, disabling the DirectSound hardware acceleration and causing multichannel sound to be played only in the stereo channels (front left/right).
    Workarounds:
    - install the 32-bit (x86) version of Windows XP.
    - limit to less than 4GB the amount of RAM available to Windows.
    - enable the ?Memory Hole? setting in the BIOS Setup, if your motherboard supports it.

  • 5.1 Surround Sound Issue

    5. Surround Sound Issue <span class="Apple-style-span">This is very odd. I've just bought a PCI express Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Sound Card and hooked it up to my pc. Next i got a digital cable and ran it from the xbox's Composite cable which has a socket for the Digital out and then put this into my sound card into the digital in. Next i turned on my xbox with the computer running and speakers on etc and i had full 5. surround sound for the intro xbox 360 video, now that i'm on the dashboard i have got no sound at all, and even when i went onto a game again i had no sound. Why would this be happening, every time i turn the xbox on the intro vid always has 5. from my speakers(these are running out from the sound card) and then after it always goes silent. Any ideas on what i can [email protected]

I want to share an update in case it helps anyone else.
I had downloaded and installed the Perian plug-in. (It installs in the preferences pane in the Mac's system settings.)
In previous versions of OS X, Perian was a sometimes essential to getting 5.1 surround from a Mac. I know I used it with great success in OS X 10.5 and 10.6.
However, I was having real troubles — some of them as I discussed above — with my sound preferences in 10.8.2.
After much mucking around, I stumbled upon the solution.
    I removed Perian.
I know have no trouble at all. I use either Handbrake, and more recently iVi Pro, to convert movies for iTunes. With Perian removed, the only change I need to make in some movies is to select the surround sound track. Mac OS X will automatically change the settings if necessary in the MIDI player, and my Marantz NR 1603 does the rest.
If I play music, OS X changes the settings back to stereo, with no intervention.
The only setup that might be necessary for anyone else is to ensure that your MIDI player is set for your HDMI or optical audio (TOSLINK) device to use 48kHz.
