Audigy2 ZS platinium pro Optic output to receiver 5.1 - 6.1 -

Hello there, i`m having the same problems that everybody else... i try to connect the Audigy2 ZS platinium pro to my receiver using the digital optic output, the results, only the front L and R speakers work in the test, can someone explain me how to resolve this isue?
This is my current setup:
OS: Windows XP
Sound card: Audigy2 ZS platinium pro
Recei'ver: Philips FR 965
Speakers: Bose acousticmass 6
thanks

I am having this same kind of issue
I am currently trying to output using my optical out on my Audigy2 ZS to my Pioneer 85 reciever. I have selected to use the SPDIF passthrough and tried SPDIF bypass on my settings and my reciever is not seeing the coding coming to it (It has a indicator on it when it is recieveing the signal) I have checked both of my guides on my reciever and sound card and I cannot get it to work for me at all.
If I take the cable and plug it into my DVD player it works just fine. If I try my DVD rom dri've which is using the SPDIF on my player or any of my games, it only outputs to my L/R speakers.Message Edited by Ericn84 on 06--2005 06:5 AM

  • TS4107 I have to use the optical output to my receiver for my surround sound ( it does not decode HDMI). After updating the software on my Apple TV the optical no longer works. The HDMI to my TV works and provides sound to the measly TV speakers. WHY?

I updated my software as "recommended" and my optical output is not working anymore to my receiver and thus no surround sound. My HDMI to the TV still provides the picture and sound to the TV. My receiver only uses optical and was fine BEFORE the software was updated. How can I go back to the prior software or fix this? My Apple TV is the earlier 720P version. I have tried restarting on the Apple TV and then unplugging and reinserting all plugs to no avail. It provides no optical sound on Netflix, Youtube and other selections but does via HDMI only to the tinny TV speakers. ANY IDEAS?

GO to your Dolby Digital settings, and toggle the options.. Auto, On, Off. That worked for me, and a few other people.

  • Can I convert the optical output to analog for a zone 2 audio? I would continue using the HDMI for the main zone. Can I use both of these simultaneously? Zone 2 only supports analog on this receiver.

Can I convert the optical output to analog via a converter for  zone 2 audio? I would continue using the HDMI for the main zone. Can I use both of these simultaneously? Zone 2 only supports analog on this receiver.

    These will probably help.

  • HT202730 Macbook Pro Optical Audio Output Toggles On/Off

My Macbook Pro optical audio output seems to switch off with a loud click when sound is not playing for a few seconds.
Then, when sound resumes, there's a delay as it switches back on.
Is there a way to stop this toggling?
And please don't tell me to check the connections.
I've already tried different sample sizes and bit rates to no avail. It seems as if the system is switching something when there is no audio being played, then switching it on again. Even if the playback is only on pause.

  • No Optical output sig

I bought the X-Fi Fatality FPS sound card when I purchased my new computer. I use the optical output connection on my Front I/O panel to connect to my sound system. The sound system I use is the Logitech Z600 speaker system. When I turn my computer on for the first time, whether it be when i wake up or get home from work, I don't have sound. In my Z600 display I get a "No Digital Data" message. I contacted the computer company I purchased the computer from and they sent me a replacement Front I/O panel.
I replaced the panel and am still having the same problem I posted above. My Aux 2 and Mic 2 connections work fine. When I turn my computer on and get the " No Digital Data" message I unplugged my Optical Cable from the Optical Output connection and there is no "red light".
The catch is after my computer has been on for about 20 minutes I can restart it and the "red light" comes on and my Optical Output connection works fine.
What is going on thats causing this?

...normal HDMI signals include both audio & video but not on a Mac.
    This is partly true.
MacBook Pros with Model Identifiers +lower than 6,1+ (see System Profiler for yours) do not output audio through their mini-Displayports, so no mini-Displayport-to-HDMI adapter will convey an audio signal to a monitor, AV receiver or TV.
MBPs +6,1 and higher+ do output audio through their mini-Displayports or Thunderbolt ports, and if used with a mini-Displayport-to-HDMI adapter that supports audio, they will deliver audio and video via HDMI. With these models, don't buy any HDMI adapter unless it explicitly says it supports audio. If it doesn't say anything about that, it very probably does not support audio.

  • Mini Optical Output on MBP 15" Not Outputting 5.1 Surround?

Is the mini optical output jack on the MBP only able to send two channel audio? My home theatre receiver is set to the exact same settings as my PS3 and my PS3 sends 5.1 surround no problem. My PS3 uses HDMI and optical for video/audio. When I hook up HDMI and mini-optical output from my MBP my receiver will not detect full surround, it only uses two channels.
    Any thoughts?

An additional sound card is needed only if the source is not a 5.1-channel disc, in which case an external card will be needed to synthesize or simulate 5.1-channel sound from a two-channel stereo source.
You're right! After reading your above reply and subsequent 'Google searches' by myself I'm grateful to you for the insight.
So, all one really needs is an optical cable (along with an adapter) and a controller (which may or may not come as standard with the speakers).
It's always great when I learn something new and I am grateful to you for the correction.

  • Mac mini and optical output problems

I have just purchased a new Apple Mac Mini connected it to my Tv via HDMI and now am having problems getting the sound working.
I have connected via optical output and the cable itself works and I can see red lights at either end.
When plugged into the Mac the 'optical output' is greyed out(it does change when plugged in)
When the volume control comes up it has a circle with a cross through it.I have tried what i consider most 'normal' things to try. Currently doing a update of the Mac software. Please Help, PLEASE!

So you have connected via a Mini-Jack -> Toslink cable from the Mac Mini to your receiver? You haven't specified what cables you are trying to use. My guess from the red circle with a X through your digital output is it may not like the cable you are trying to use.
I have the above described setup but I am able to select Digital Output in Sound Preferences. The volume control is greyed out for some reason but does not have a circle with the cross through it so I just control the volume via the receiver itself. iTunes still allows me control of volume, as do other video/audio controls in the web browser etc, it's just the main OS X volume control that is inaccessible.
    Strange, but liveable.

  • Using Macbook Optical Output to record MDs?

I was trying to use Macbook connected to a MD player with optical line to record MDs.
I used iTunes to play the music at full volume.
However, although the MD should be receiving digital audio, but the tracks weren't separate automatically. Therefore, the whole CD with 15 tracks were recorded as only 1 track on the MD.
I tried using a CD player with optical output before, everything was perfectly done.
Is there anyway I can do it with the Macbook too?
    Thanks a lot!

    Hi,
when digital connecting a CD-Player and a MD-Deck then the CD-Player also transmits start-song/end-song information to the MD-Deck.
iTunes (and/or maybe Macs) don't seem to have that ability, so that the MD-Deck could only know a song has ended through the 'silence' between two songs.
But this 'silence' usually has to endure some seconds (at least on my Sony MD).
So other than playing only one song at a time, waiting for the MD-Deck reaction before starting the next song, I don't know other solutions.
    Regards

  • Airplay through the optical output of my Apple TV to my stereo?

I cannot figure out how to use my Apple TV to stream music from the units optical output to the corresponding input on my receiver.  Any suggestions?  Seems simple enough....

Thanks, but yes, I have the output of the Apple TV connected to an input on the receiver, and the receiver is programmed to use that input.  I also changed the audio/video settings to 16 bit and no Dolby per apple instructions but that did not work either, any other ideas.  I want to stream the same output via HDMI and optical to two different receivers, no luck so far.

  • HELP! I'm losing my mind - Audigy 2 ZS digital coax output to receiver

I've very close to throwing my Vista media center PC out the window trying to get my Audigy 2 ZS to output a digital signal to my home theater amp/receiver. I've read as much as I can find on the subject and, as far as I understand it, the digital out 3.5mm mini jack on the back of the ZS is actually a multi speaker output designed for connection to Creative speakers, but to output a digital signal to my amp I need to plug in a 3.5mm mini jack to RCA connector then connect my digital coax cable to it and the other end to the amp, so I bought this little guy to connect to the ZS and my RCA coax cable: http://www.rakuten.com/pr/product.aspx?sku=263718980
Then I went to Vista's Sound-Playback settings and disabled the onboard sound (which was working perfectly thru the amp via its SPDIF digital optical output) and made the "SDPIF Out Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS (WDM)" the default device. I had already installed Daniel's excellent driver/software pack 5 for it so I have the latest drivers and control software. Then I went to the Creative Audio Console and selected "SPDIF Passthrough (Dolby Digital / DTS Digital Out)". Then I did a reboot for good measure.
In the meantime I set my amp to the Digital Coax 1 input into which I'd plugged the coax cable from the ZS's digital out port. When I rebooted and played music I get the green bars flashing next to SPDIF Out in the Playback tab of Vista's Sound settings indicating that the sound card is outputting an SPDIF signal, but don't hear anything out of the amp. Interestingly if I change the "Digital Output (PCM) Sample Rate Setting" to 96Khz in the Creative Audio Console my amp recognizes the change and flashes 96Khz which makes me think there is at least some information coming down that coax (I then switched it back to 48Khz).
The most annoying thing about all this is that my crappy onboard mobo sound has a digital optical output which connects directly to the amp and just works immediately without any messing around - when my amp receives a DTS or Dolby signal it says it's receiving that type of signal and pushes it out to my 5.1 speakers nicely. And this ZS card is supposed to be an upgrade to give me more functionality but I can't get a peep out of it (digitally), although the analog speaker outputs do work on the ZS so it's not a completely faulty card and actually makes me think I'm probably just missing something very basic.
I'd be very grateful for any suggestions/ideas before my media center ends up as a new modern art feature in my yard.
    Cheers
    Simon

Generally i found this thread because i've also got troubles with coax output my problem is in choppy sound with scratches and clipping in Windows 7, when i try to play Dolby Digital or DTS audio in movies or even test sounds from speaker control panel. In win xp all works fine - and in win7 only pcm stereo can normaly being output.
I try with different drivers (official and from daniel) and nothing helps...
yep...bios of my motherboard was configured to lower CPU ratio and voltage when idle (C1E option). I turn this option off and all works fine now)

  • Problematic optical output on X-Fi Titanium

    Hello,
i have X-Fi Titanium with latest drivers and the optical is bugging me. There is no rule but after like 5min (sometimes after hour) or so of listening to music over optical output on external receiver sound becomes? bad. There are 2 types of problem : sound gets some metal tone and the other problem is that sound slows down like on the half of speed. Very wierd problem since it works OK for some time. Only restart helps to resolve this issues but it's frustrating that i have to do that every some time to fix the problem...
Anyone had similar issues and how did you solve it's

Thats exactly what I just set up, I have an optical cable running to my Sony STR-DE598 receiver and it sounds beautiful.

  • SB live! external. logitech-z680.Spdif output and Optical output , but get only 2

    Hi there,
I buy now a SB li've external.i use? Spdif output and Optical output .But i get only 2. voice
i dont get 5+ voice with Spdif output and Optical output .
    I wait your help.

But to use the receiver's DAC's you'd have to lose the accuracy advantage of real digital (i.e. the "better" sound). When you convert non-AC3/DTS sound to AC3/DTS, the conversion involves "perceptual coding," which means they throw away stuff they don't think you can really hear so that the signal can be fit in the same space as a stereo digital signal.
    It's also a relati'vely compute-intensi've conversion, and not a simple process.
Now, are you sure really want to do that?

P.S. What make/model receiver do you have?

  • Optical output using a DigiDesign 002 Rack

    Hi there,
I'm wanting to use the optical output on my 002 Rack but am not able to get it working (no sound).
The rack's connected to my Macbook Pro (firewire), and I'm running Logic Pro 8.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi all,
Just a quick question in addendum to what has been said. Perhaps best directed to the Digidesign/Avid technical support people...
The Digi 002 has an option for "Mirrored Outputs from analog 1+2 to Digital Out" in the Core Audio Manager. Surely one should thus see signal being input when the system pref's input is set to Digital In, right?
Or is there no way to monitor via analog 1+2 and output via the digital ADAT on the 002 at the same time? Does one have to flip sources in the hardware manager in Pro Tools?
I thought mirrored would send to both outputs, but clearly it doesn't as I'm seeing no input from Digi 002 digital out to Mac digital in in the system pref's input level bars.
Any advice would be dearly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Digital/Optical Output

Just wondering since im not entirely 100% sure about optical outputs and those on the macpro, but is it always suppose to be shining red? its not bright at all but just wondering if it was normal for that to appear that way..
i had digital speakers connected to the macpro optical connection so i was wondering if its acting as if it were still there unless this normal for any macpro and optical in/outputs
    thanks in advanced.

    Hi AppleNewton,
when the mac Pro is on, the optcial digital out will always have this light red shining.
This is normal behaviour with every optical audio out port, since the red light is in fact the transportation medium for the digital signal.
    Have Fun

  • Optical Output Problem

I've listened to audio from my MacBook using headphones and the quality is excellent so I thought I'd try the optical output and connect it up to my Yamaha amp using a standard optical cable connected to a standard mini-toslink adapter in the MacBook. Listening to the sound output quite carefully I noticed it wasn't quite right -- the sound had what my friend described as "graininess" to it, which could relate to the word clock, synchronization or something like that. It sounded as if brief, intermittent parts of the music being played were being taken out. Basically, it didn't sound good.
Yeah, so, I'm not sure what the solution to this is. Does anyone have any ideas?
    Many thanks.
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

By plugging the mini-toslink adaptor into the MacBook it automatically starts outputting an optical signal. It may be worth noting that the amp is only detecting Pro Logic input which may suggest I have a setting wrong but I looked and couldn't find anything to change on the MacBook.
