Audio Decoder
Hi,
I have searched the web and this forum for a definitive answer to the following, and have found nothing :(
I have a music app which decodes and plays multiple mp3's. Using JMF's mp3 system, it worked fine, but I realized that the JMF system isn't packed with Java normally, so people would have to install it manually. Is there a mp3 decoding system that I can pack with my applet to run off my website? I have the javazoom mp3spi and the jffmpeg libraries, but I'm not sure that either of them will do that (read: I can't get them working properly).
Is there another system like an OGG decoder that can be run from my applet? I would be willing to forget the mp3s if I can get SOME compressed audio format to decode from my applet.
Cheers,
Crispin

Thanks - I have tried both of those libraries... For some reason they cause the audio to glitch and click a bit, whereas the exact same code produces clean audio using the JMF mp3 decoder. I have been changing the buffer sizes, and other things to try to eliminate the glitches, but no luck so far... :(
Cheers,
Crispinweird. the JMF MP3 [didnt work|http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5287284] at all for me.
most people seem to really like the jlayer + tritonus solution.
good luck. this is all our sad community has*.

Dolby Audio Decode Licensing Restriction
I have used the same video camera Canon which shoots AVCHD for 2 years now and had Adobe CS 5 Production Premium for Windows, CS 5.5 for Mac and now Creative Cloud on both a Mac and Windows 7 64 bit computer. No problems inputting the same footage week after week until about 2 months ago. Now on the Windows PC the audio in my video does not get conformed when videos are imported. Instead I get a "Dolby Audio Decode Licensing Restriction for <my path to .MTS file> This installation does not have a license to decode Dolby Digital audio.". Did Adobe put out a Creative Cloud update that broke something? I do not have this problem on the Mac. But the Windows PC is my video production machine and needs to be working again. Please help.
I unsintalled and reinstalled PP CS 6. When I imported the files again, 2 of them no longer gave the error and conformed the audio, but 2 other files gave a new error (forget what that one was) and did not conform. I got the camera back today as these were videos copied from the camera memory to SD card, then onto hard drive. Connecting the camera directly I was able to copy directly from the camera to my computer and when I import that file into PP, it can conform the audio no problem.
Also, one of the videos was supposedly corrupted and could not load at all that was copied from the SD card and was the same when reading the card directly from my Mac and PC. I was able to copy it directly from camera to hard drive and it imported with no issues.
Could it be that a bad sector on the SD card causes the video to be corrupted when copied, then transferred bad video to PC? Should that cause PP to throw this licensing issue though? Adobe should at least know under what coding circumstances they would throw such a specific error. Maybe it could instead say the audio in the video is corrupt or something. I will update this again if next time something different happens again. -
You may need an additional audio decoder to play the soundtrack of this file.
This file contains a track in the Dolby AC3 Audio (code "8192") format. You may need to install a DirectShow decoder for this audio format in order to hear the soundtrack of this file.Luckily, there are DOZENS of video/media players and extensions avaliable for the Mac. Many of them are FREE, some of the better FREE ones are...
PERIAN (quicktime extension)
http://perian.org/
QUICKTIME 7.6.6
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL923
VLC media player
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
NICEPLAYER
https://code.google.com/p/niceplayer/
And if none of those work, there is a possibility that those video files may be corrupted. -
Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 Dolby Audio Decode Licensing Restriction
I have a Macbook Pro and a Mac Pro. They are both running Premiere Pro CS6 v6.0.2. On my Macbook Pro, I started a project using AVCHD media in the form of .mts files. I believe these files have Dolby Digital Audio. I have project managed all of the files onto my external harddrive for editing on my Mac Pro; however, as I open the project file I recieve an error message "This installation does not have a license to decode Dolby Digital audio". If I then open a different project and check the error log, I see the error "Dolby Audio Decode Licensing Restriction on file..."
Sometimes when opening the project I also get an error "There is no Preset for this sequence..." or something similar. I cannot rememeber exactly.
I have the exact same plugins on both my Mac Pro and Macbook Pro. They are running the same version and they are both activated on my Creative Cloud membership. Any thoughts on why I can't open the project on my Mac Pro?In short after reading LOTS of people complaining like you have, like I have like probably about 1 million people who own AVCHD cameras have that the most used format to shoot on for home /semi pro users is AVCHD and Premiere... get ready for this... take a deep breath.... DOESNT SUPPORT ITS AUDIO FILES. Its apparently licensed by DOLBY and you ahve to contact and minktonka company and pay.... really sit down first... take another deep breath... they want $300 for the plugin to make it work.
So Adobe have shafted.... is that a polite enough word... its customers who just want to play their files - not even encode the project to dolby digital - just play and edit their stuff. No even though you own that camera which only lets you shoot in that format and even though you are stuck wanting Premiere, adobe thinks that for the large monthly sum the world can go sit on its finger before they will sort this out.
Charming huh.
Adobe are you listening..... hello Adobe... have you gone mad Adobe... hello. Earth calling Adobe.
As someone pointed out you can play these files on quicktime, media player... so seems apple and microsoft PAY THEIR LICENCES ON BEHALF OF THE USERS OF THEIR PRODUCTS. Adobe must either be skinflints or maybe a nephew of theirs owns Minkytonkatoy firm who are selling that annoying plugin. Ever heard of download sites... cough cough. -
Audio problems in Flash Player and Firefox
Hi everyone!
I have a problem that has been plagueing me for nearly a year now, all audio in all videos i play in Firefox goes out of synch, the video will start ok then at around the two minute mark the audio starts to lag until it's completely left the visual playback behind, the only solution is to keep clicking the video back a few seconds to re-align the audio, this is temp as the audio will slowly drop out of synch again!
This problem has been driving me crazy!
It doesn't happen in Chrome or IE only Firefox. I have posted thread after thread on tech forums but nobody has yet been been able to help, i'm using the latest Firefox. the latest Flash Player (uninstalled and re-installed properly) all my drivers are bang up to date, all caches cleared all....in fact you name it iv'e done it!
This was never an issue until about a year ago, nothing has been installed hardware wise and the only software installed has been updates for ongoing programmes!
Help me Adobey wan kenobi, your my only hope!

Hardware acceleration on or off makes absolutely no difference, i recently tried watching videos in a 100% fresh install and new profile in firefox (no addons) and the problem still occurs albiet a little slower in the new install, ie it takes a little longer to drop out of synch.
There is a noticeable difference in framerate just before the problem occurs, like a very tiny hiccup, from that point on the audio gets left further and further behind, it's remedied by clicking back a few seconds on the video play bar but this is only temporary, lately i've even noticed it happening with live streams from the BBC, once again i must stress, this doesn't happen in Chrome or Opera or IE. -
EDIT 02/01/2014: Since mpv 0.3.0, the opengl renderer, which works perfectly fine with software-decoding, now also works with vaapi/vdpau hardware-decoding, so just setting vo=opengl and hwdec=auto should really be enough to utterly avoid the problems I was having back when I made this post. A lot of the "info" I gave later on in the thread is also actually bogus, I'll tweak that in a second.
I've been reading the documentation for mpv, and there's something I can't quite figure out.
My CPU isn't especially powerful, so it's important for me to be able to use hardware acceleration where possible. I'm using the proprietary ATI driver; VLC works fine with VA-API, and since I discovered libvdpau-va-gl I've been able to get mpv to work using VDPAU. Obviously, some files (*cough*, Hi10P, *cough*) can't be hardware-accelerated, and this is where my problem/question comes in.
In my mpv config file, with
vo=vdpau
I'm able to play normal h.264 video effortlessly, but when HWaccel isn't available mpv falls back to software-decoding and software scaling (ffmpeg/swscaler, as per the console output). The problem is, with the CPU already working to decode the Hi10P content, my A-V desync skyrockets, and it's all a bit of a mess.
If I play the same Hi10P file with
vo=opengl
, then it doesn't desync at all. I checked the manpage and it says I can concatenate possible video outputs with a comma, and it will try each in turn. Obviously I'd like the not-hardware-decodable content to be rendered using OpenGL, rather than whatever causes them to get fed to "swscaler". So I set the config line to
vo=vdpau,opengl
. However - the opengl option never gets used! The non-HW-decodable files still end up being fed to swscaler, and as a result desync wildly, unless I manually set to opengl for that file.
Is someone here familiar enough with mpv to be able to explain why I might not be getting the behaviour I expect from listing multiple video outputs in the config file; or even better, how I can configure mpv to do what I actually want?
If there's somewhere else I should be asking this, please let me know. I couldn't find a dedicated mpv forum or anything (or even an IRC channel for questions), but I could have missed something.
Addition: Here are some console outputs.
1) Playing an 8-bit h.264 file with vo=vdpau, works fine

Last edited by aphirst (2014-01-02 23:20:53)So, I had a nice long conversation last night with some of the devs on the IRC channel (that I didn't find first-time-round somehow). I'll summarise this in bullet points:
>I'm using an ATI card with the proprietary driver
>I'm exposing VDPAU via a library that uses VA-API underneath
>the vo_vdpau mode for mpv continues to handle file playback even if the vdpau hardware decoder won't initialise
>>i.e. vdpau itself calls the software decoder, and then handles the calls to a software renderer
>because I'm using VDPAU in an indirect "wheels within wheels" library, it's slow as all hell
Solution:
UPDATE: READ THE POST BELOW, A BETTER SOLUTION HAS BEEN IMPLEMENTED
>mpv-git has native VA-API support, vo_vaapi
>compiling and using this works perfectly
>the vaapi handler is able to much more efficiently handle the calls to software decoders/renderers
>8bit h.264 files play fullspeed using hardware decoding
>10bit h.264 files are automatically handed to software-decoding, and play (almost!) as well as they should (i.e. when directly calling vo_opengl or vo_xv)
Note that it's still a little slower than using opengl or xv, which is kind of odd. wm4 on IRC mentioned he might be able to do something about this, by implementing the (hackish, apparently) thing that VLC does, so that vo_vaapi doesn't have to use swscale (slow) before rendering; but I'll wait and see if that pans out.
TL;DR - People using the proprietary ATI driver should compile mpv-git and and use vo=vaapi
@Roberth: I actually did have that enabled, but whether it was or wasn't enabled didn't affect the problem I was having. After all, the problem was with vo_vdpau calling software decoding in an inefficient, roundabout way. vo_vaapi still isn't as efficient at this as it should be, it seems, but it's better than vo_vdpau was on my setup.
@kaszak696: As far as I was aware, sws=0 was the default behaviour, but I do recall forcing that at one point with no effect. Either way, my particular problem is solved/worked around now! Well, almost.

Video freezes for a few seconds multiple times but audio continues ok
Flash freezes for a second or three; audio continues ok.
Happens usually a few seconds in, every 8 seconds or so for maybe 3 times and
intermittent after that (sometimes runs fine the rest of the way). Have Vista64
IE9 - Chrome and FF doesn't freeze only IE. Disabled hardware acceleration (to
software). Nvidia 440 drivers up to date. Flash up to date: Object
13.0.0.214 ActiveX control: 12.0.9.149
(shouldn't that be same as object?). Not a buffer problem as it loads up
usually at a good clip ahead of playing video. Local storage buffer set at 10MB
(tried higher and lower settings no joy). Would having 4 HD audio drivers
installed have anything to do with this problem? (noticed in device manager). Previous
versions back a few months were doing this too so decided to go on this forum. Thanks.
Hope I didn't miss anything.OK as of today (June 27, 2014) I've had 93 views with no response. I did find a very long thread pertaining to this subject (Flash player stutters for 1 second then continues normally) so I'll tack on to end of that thread with the hopes that something can be done with this annoying stuttering. I want to post my DX Diag text but first update above: It's IE version 9. When video freezes it appears to "catch up" with audio running with no hitch (the whole thing takes a second or two and might happen a few times in a minute video - it ALWAYS happens with a second or two in the beginning though). I even reinstalled IE9 going all the way back to IE7 to make sure I got "fresh" files installed as possible - still same problem after that. With that said below is my DX Diag text. If someone (especially an Adobe person) has any suggestions of where else I can post to get someone talking to me I would appreciate it.

0x1) is there a way to disable annoying autoplay feature in windows media player: when i play music in "now playing" mode and insert a disc which contains some video WMP stops playing music and asks me to play that disc or starts playing without any questions (e.g. when i insert DVD). in addition when WMP asks before playing it proposes three options: resume playing, go to library and play previous list. choosing "resume playing" you'll not resume the music just played, you'll start playing inserted disc. if you choose "play previous list", it also won't continue the playlist i was just playing, rather a playlist or track before the one i was just playing! very strange behaviour, isn't it?
note that this happends only in "now playing" mode, when library is active everything works fine.
please don't tell to go to control panel and change autoplay settings: it takes no effect. it works when WMP is not started or if WMP is not in "now playing" mode, otherwise WMP ignores that settings and demonstrates his "very intellectual"automatic playing.
0x2) when playing FLAC files windows media player doesn't show progress indicator, it always is positioned at the beginning (or at the place where you've positioned it). if i select multiple FLAC files and click "play with windows media player" it will play only the last file from the selected list.
0x3) when playing AVI files with two or more audio tracks WMP plays only one of them and gives no opportunity to change autio track. in wmp of vista it plays all the audio tracks at the same time (!).
If there is no solution for these problems, please tell me where i can send a feedback about my complaints?i use K-Lite 5.2 full codec pack. in the k-lite codec tweak tool report i see madFLAC.ax installed. i'll try the Xiph.org filters.

Digital audio out from azalia chipset
Hallo everybody.
I hope you could help me in finding a solution.
I just purchased a Fujitsu-siemens pc with the new M7058 MSI board (shuold be 915P) and my problem is I can't just get the "raw" digital signal out of the back panel S/PDIF out to be decoded fropm my external audio decoder.
In the driver panel "C media hq driver" are mentioned but in the control panel enabling the S/PDIF out just results in a normal PCM 2.0 out and my external receiver doesn't recognize it as a DD or DTS.
I downloaded the C media azalia drivers from msi site but I can't fulfil the installation sice after mentioning "installing bus drivers" the panel gives to me a notice saying that "the device doesn't exist or has been removed manually" (!!).
Thanks in advance for any related tip or hint

My system:
P4 3,4 Ghz
Msi M7058
hdd 200GB
1GB RAM
Ati X600pro videocard
Windows Media Center Edition 2005Sure I did.
In bios it just mentioned onboard audio.

No multi-channel audio from DVD Player or Quicktime?
I have the A52Codec 1.7.6 installed. The codec preferences are set to output multi-channel audio. I have my Audio MIDI setup speaker configuration setup for multi-channel audio and the speaker assignment tests are all perfect. VLC plays back files with AC-3 soundtracks in perfect 5.1 multi-channel sound. Final Cut plays multi-channel audio properly as well.
When I watch a DVD, it is decoded to stereo. The dialog on 5.1 always comes from the left and right speakers and never from the center channel. It doesn't matter whether I remove the A52Codec and try again the result is aways the same, 5.1 audio in Quicktime and DVD Payer gets decoded to stereo. It is not that extra channels are missing, if that were true I'd get no dialog at all.
What do I have to do to make the DVD and Quicktime multi-channel audio decode as multi-channel audio and not stereo.I'm not sure if this will resolve your issue or not, but have you configured it using /Utilities/Audi MIDI Setup ?

When I try to stream the audio never works and it doesn't
show dazzle under audio. I heard that you click the tool next to
capture device go to crossbar and click audio decoder out for
output and audio line in for input. I click ok and and check again
but it goes back to default. Is it maybe because im using a
vcr?Sad but what you say is true.
I've taken your advice and I'm now running OS v4.6.1.231 again.
If they'd taken time to test OS on just 1 phone, they wouldn't have released it.
What a disaster. I agree with the post who thought this was a cruel joke.
I am surprised T-mobile released.as official version.....they have always been the most conservative of all carriers. They let someone else get their toes wet before they put an upgrade out there, at least until now.
Thanks for your input and advise. It made me come to terms with the futile effort to pursue running 5...822 OS. -
HD audio playback on Asus Xonar DX (AV200 chip)
I just installed my new Asus Xonar DX (AV200 chip). First thing I'd like to try is playing back HD audio. But when I use mplayer to do so, it says this:
==========================================================================
Opening audio decoder: [ffmpeg] FFmpeg/libavcodec audio decoders
libavcodec version 54.71.100 (internal)
AUDIO: 96000 Hz, 2 ch, s32le, 0.1 kbit/0.00% (ratio: 16->768000)
Selected audio codec: [ffflac] afm: ffmpeg (FFmpeg FLAC audio)
==========================================================================
[AO OSS] audio_setup: Can't open audio device /dev/dsp: No such file or directory
AO: [alsa] 48000Hz 2ch s32le (4 bytes per sample)
Video: no video
Starting playback...
So why doesn't it play at 96000 Hz?
I use Alsa, no dmix, pulse or anything.
Last edited by halfgaar (2013-05-15 18:51:00)Hmm, dmix is on by default, it would seem. I thought I didn't have dmix because:
I never needed to enable it before because I had an Audigy 2 card, which does internal resampling and hardware mixing, and I just plugged in my new Xonar DX.
I don't have anything about it in my asound.conf(s) or mplayer.conf
I couldn't play mplayer and audacious at the same time.
However:
I just found out that I can play two mplayers at the same time, so mplayer does use dmix, without me telling it to.
setting the dmix.rate actually does change at what rate mplayer plays.
This is weird to me.
The only thing I have in asound.conf are some jack things (which I don't use, actually):
ctl.jack40 {
type hw
card 0
pcm.jack40 {
# "asym" allows for different
# handling of in/out devices
type asym
playback.pcm {
# route for mmap workaround
type route
slave.pcm surround40
slave.channels 4
ttable.0.0 1
ttable.1.1 1
ttable.2.2 1
ttable.3.3 1
capture.pcm {
# 2 channels only
type hw
card 0
I want to make absolutely sure there is no resampling going on with any sound source (not just mplayer). So, either I don't have dmix at all and I have to accept that I can only play one sound source at a time, or dmix (or maybe Pulse?) should be smart and only resample when it's necessary.
How about those resampling algorithms? Are they smart enough not to resample when it's not necessary? Everybody always bashes Creative cards for always resampling, but now that we have cards that don't do it, and therefore lack the ability to hardware-mix, it would defeat the purpose if then the software does it all the time anyway.
edit: I found this here:
NOTE: For ALSA 1.0.9rc2 and higher you don't need to setup dmix for analogue output. Dmix is enabled by default for soundcards which don't support hardware mixing. You still need to set it up for digital outputs.
I guess it is on, but not fully, since mplayer can't play when I play music with Audacious.
And I think it's bizar it resamples to 48k, since it's a 192k card.

HT204382 Dolby AC3 Audio (code "8192") format
What do I need to get and to install so I can get sound on the videos that tell me,"You may need an additional audio decoder to play the soundtrack of this file.
This file contains a track in the Dolby AC3 Audio (code "8192") format. You may need to install a QuickTime™ component for this audio format in order to hear the soundtrack of this file."JOSDIOR wrote:

From what I can read, downloading and installing Perian may fix your issue.
You can download Perian for free from here

5.1 Audio issue in Premiere Pro CC
Hello All,
So I have the latest Premiere Pro CC with the most current updates and a Sony HD camera that records videos with 5.1 Dolby Digital sound. When I create a project and import the files using Media Browser, I get the error message: "Dolby Audio Decode Licensing Restriction for <file path>", I'm on a Windows 7 64-bit machine, the files are on M2TS format, I imported them from the camera to the computer using PlayMemories Home, the software also copies a M2TSMODD file to the same location. I've seen a lot of people complaining about this issue with CS6 but not CC, I've reinstalled the software twice now, is there anything I can do other than trying to extract the audio with another software and import the audio file? This is really a bummer.I had this problem this evening 090813 after upgrading my Adobe Cloud Desktop.
I open Pro CC and had the Dolby Audio Decode Licensing Restriction for (File name.......... ) Error
Previous CC progs loaded and worked with problem.
I uninstalled Pro CC - Restarted the computer - Re-installed Pro CC.
Now working with no problem.
Hope this helps.

AAC 5.1 audio not always downgraded properly to stereo by AppleTV
I have some HDTV recordings with 5.1 audio.
Using a version of ffmpeg (build date 2009 - so fairly recent) and encoding video at 1280x720 3Mbps (~24fps) and audio at AAC 5.1 448Kbps (6 channels), the resulting mp4 files play fine with QuickTime and iTunes under Windows, however, the AppleTV gets the audio channels mixed up on most of the encodings and the centre channel seems to be shifted to the left channel, another channel goes to the right channel and the other 4 channels are lost. There are some HDTV videos which do play fine. It almost seems as if the AppleTV only sees two channels rather than 6 and so isn't downgrading to stereo properly.
If I use Nero 7 to encode the audio to AAC 5.1 and then mux this in using ffmpeg, the audio is always fine, but this requires two steps, the first encoding the audio and the second encoding the video and muxing in the audio. I would much prefer to just use ffmpeg if there is an option I can set to fix the problem.
Is this a problem others have noticed?
I am guessing that it is a problem with the audio decoder on the AppleTV, as QuickTime and iTunes under Windows doesn't have this problem. If the audio is downgraded to stereo using ffmpeg, the audio is fine on the AppleTV.
Because I use my mp4 files with more than just the AppleTV, I don't want to have multiple copies of videos, ones with AAC2.0 and ones with AAC5.1 audio.
Only advice on fixing the problem appreciated. I do not need to be told what the audio specs of the AppleTV are.Thanks for the response.
I'm using the analogue out from the AppleTV into my amp, so relying on the AppleTV to downgrade the AAC5.1 to 2.0.
I'm confused because some videos convert ok whereas others don't with ffmpeg. Although Nero recognises and converts the 5.1 correctly for all videos for the AppleTV, it struggles to detect the correct fps (always seems to be double actual fps). This is why I'm using Nero to do audio and ffpmeg to do video and mux in audio.
I was wondering whether the 6 channels in AAC5.1 are labelled somehow and so can be in any order but that the codec in the AppleTV doesn't look at these labels and assumes a specific order. It could be that Nero detects the labels (if they exist) but always outputs channels in a specific order, whereas ffmpeg always outputs the channels in the same order as the source.
