Audio in widgets - update

I am using Hype to build html5 widgets.  So far I have been unable to play audio within the widget.  The Hype people have been very helpful, but so far no joy.
Interested folks might like to read the thread at http://hype.assistly.com/customer/portal/questions/179961-audio-via-javascript-t o-be-used-in-a-widget-bound-for-ibooks-author?new=179961
Bottom line is, so far, no audio inside a widget.
You CAN do it via a Keynote presentation.
In my case I'm demonstrating different types of noise (white, pink, brown, grey, blue) and the presentation needs to trigger graphical changes (smartbuilds in Keynote, timelines in Hype) and audio.  I can link a graphical change on a "quasi button" to play the sound (sound "build" is play spund WITH graphic change) but it can only be played once - the next click will change slides - keynote is designed to be linear.
BTW, when you export a keynote file as html, (which I am guessing happens when you import a keynote presentation to iBooks Author) the sound file is converted to .m4v, but if you put that "audio-only-movie" in a hype widget, it is not accepted by Author.....

Welcome to our community, Judy.
Note that simply acquiring Soundbooth won't do the trick for the mass update. Mukul said this was only possible if you purchased and installed the eLearning Suite. If you just install Soundbooth, Captivate will still be unaware of it and won't work in the manner you are seeking. But you will be able to use it to edit audio clips you export from Captivate.
Cheers... Rick

  • Widget update interval

I've few widget on the desktop but only the email one is updated properly, all the rest did not update at all. For example the ForecaWeather is set to update every hour but it won't update until I manually start the internet connection, and the Facebook one keep showing me the first 3 post when I first run it, there is no individual or centralized setting for widget update interval, there is no way to change and tell when they will update, I don't know the use of the widget if they do nothing !!

you have to have the internet connected for them to update (they won't connect for you) and they only update when in view

  • Audio Player Widget - Muse

I have searched everywhere for a way to have a simple audio player on a web page in Muse and the code below when pasted into "Insert HTML" gives us the most basic HTML5 audio player.
    <audio controls>
      <source src="horse.ogg" type="audio/ogg">
      <source src="horse.mp3" type="audio/mpeg">
Your browser does not support the audio tag.
    </audio>
This gets a basic audio player on the page and is fine if one doesn't mind the default look of the player. (Above Player shown in Safari)
Basically any audio player that looks different from this one above is going to have to be coded in some way and that's where the difficulty starts.
The only place that I have found on the Internet that has really small, minimal and clean audio players is at this site:
    http://www.podsnack.com
which is set up for heavy duty traffic use of the player as their plans support 25,000 plays per day, which is way more than I need, however they do have 2 or 3 really nice looking tiny audio players that are completely editable color-wise that have a base look like these:
    There are more examples here:
    http://www.podsnack.com/mp3-player-examples/
I love the clean look of the 2 players above, and all the colors are changeable:
The main drawback with the podsnack site is that even the most basic plan costs $8 per month with a minimum 1 Year up-front payment of $96.00.
But, they are hosting the audio files on their servers and providing the skin of the player.
So far this is the only solution I have found to get a really small, clean visually customizable audio player onto a Muse website.
If Adobe could come up with a way to create some Audio Player Widgets that include some very small clean ones, I would find that to be a great asset to Muse.
I think that it would probably be easier for Adobe to design a widget that can play the audio file from the user's hosting server rather than Adobe's servers otherwise Adobe is going to be storing a huge number of audio files belonging to Muse customers.
The audio file can be placed on the user's hosting server in the same way that files such as pdf's are placed there when the user want to provide a link to download the pdf.
I am requesting that Adobe create some clean, customizable Audio Player Widgets.
Now that there are Widgets to place YouTube and Vimeo videos plus Social Media icons on pages, Audio Player Widgets are the next logical step.
    Cheers,
    Chris.

Well, I kept on looking for reliable ways to place simple HTML5 audio players onto pages and I really didn't come up with any useful solutuions.
Lots of open source JavaScript players etc, which I highly respect and trully wish I had a load of skill with, but I just found them to be out of reach at this time.
So, I broke down and coughed up the $96/year fee ($8/month) for the podsnack.com player set up and have found them to be absolutely effiortless to use and completely editable with regards to the look.
I have an example of some tiny players on a page here:  http://amsondesigns.com/misc-files/podsnack-demo
And the Podsnack example page is here:  http://www.podsnack.com/mp3-player-examples
BTW, I don't work for Podsnack!
If Adobe comes up with some Widgets that effectively provide what Podsnack are doing, then for me that will be the answer.
Until then I'm going to use Podsnack.
    Cheers,
    Chris.

  • Streamed audio stuttering since update to Yosemite

I have a big problem with stuttering streamed audio and video (Spotify, Deezer, Netflix etc) since I updated to Yosemite. It seems to get much worse when the stream in question is not the "active" thing on my screen. For example when the screen goes black due to standby mode when listening to Spotify or when surfing on one tab while listening on Deezer on another. Also, while watching Netflix on another screen with the laptop lid closed, it doesn't take long before the audio and video becomes off sync. Does anyone else have this problem or have any idea on a solution?
I have a Macbook air 13" mid 2012 and 100 mbit connection. I completely erased the hard drive before installing OS X Yosemite.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Audio dropouts since updating to iTunes 8

Had a stable working iTunes to Airport Express to stereo connection going for at least two years until I installed iTunes version 8 shortly after it came out. When I updated to version 8 I started receiving an error message and I had to upgrade the firmware on the AX to fix that. Ever since that time I haven't been able to use iTunes for more than 30 minutes or so without audio dropouts. Nothing else in the environment changed.
I have tried these fixes (some suggested in other posts) and they all failed:
    1) Switched from optical to standard RCA cables between the AX and stereo.
    2) Used Airport Admin Utility to enable Interference Robustness. This made the problem worse.
    3) Switching to multiple speakers.
    4) Leaving the Airport Utility program OPEN.
    5) Removing interference from 2.4Ghz phones
    My set up:
Windows XP Pro on 2 Gb RAM
    iTunes 8.0.2.20
    AX 6.3
I live in the country 200 yards away from the nearest neighbor.
I was hoping that Apple would come out with a fix. Am I waiting in vain?
Been forced to go back to my 400 disc changer, but it's not the same.

  • Rating Widget - Update afterRating following rateHandler

In the rating widget I am implementing, I want to fade the
stars out onclick, then fade them back in with the updated
"average" value showing. I am using the rateHandler to call my fade
function, and then the fade function calls another fade to handle
the fade-in. However, during the fade-out, the afterRating updates,
so you sometimes see the new value being updated as the widget is
    fading out.
Basically, I would like to update the "afterRating" value
following the fade-out, but before the fade-in. Any ideas?
    Here is the URL:

    Code
    Thanks!

    Update:
Ok, the first query on the Recent tab doesnt work for me because it wont show unless its already voted, and since these are supposed to be new blurts, that kind of breaks the whole site:
    "SELECT Blurt.Id_blurt, Blurt.Name, Blurt.Location, Blurt.Blurt,Blurt.`Date`,DATE_FORMAT(Blurt.`Date`, '%l:%i %p on %M %D, %Y') as Date, ratings.rating_id, Avg(ratings.rating_value) as average_r FROM ratings Left Join Blurt On ratings.rating_id = Blurt.Id_blurt Group By Id_blurt ORDER BY Blurt.`Date` DESC";
So I replaced it with what I originally had.
    "SELECT Blurt.Id_blurt, Blurt.Name, Blurt.Location, Blurt.Blurt,Blurt.`Date`,DATE_FORMAT(Blurt.`Date`, '%l:%i %p on %M %D, %Y') as Date FROM Blurt ORDER BY Blurt.`Date` DESC";
But this doesn't provide me with the initial average rating:(

  • No audio after ICS update.

After ICS update, have lost audio playback. In settings, speaker has single line crossing thru it showing audio is muted. Can not unmute audio. Same for audio 'alerts'. Have rebooted and pulled battery to no avail. Ideas?

I also have the same problem with the sound going in an out and lines through the speaker/notification etc. I called tech support and they actually told me to come on this forum and look for solutions, because the update has problems. I certainly didn't really understand that message...45 minutes waiting on hold to tell me to check the boards. Oh well. Any answers let us all know. :-)

  • Video & Audio unsynced after update-Vision M:3

Hi,I'm experiencing unsynced video and audio with my player when I was waching a movie that I paused. I needed to watch that movie from the beginning to avoid this problem. So, I've updated my player and it seems that the update is not helping either. The movie's video and audio are unsynced as I started watching. I just need to know what should I do because it really bothers me. Please help!

I use AVS Video Converter from http://www.avsmedia.com/. I think it costs about $30 if I remember right. It converts practically?everything that isn't protected. They even have presets for the Zen Vision, although not for the Vision:M or Vision:W. However, it lets you easily make your own presets. The program is fast and very easy to use once you learn it. However, there is a bit of a learning curve. It has a good, simple interface but they don't hold your hand. The help is also very good. I've been using it for about 2 years and I'm glad I have it. By the way, I'm a customer of theirs and I don't get anything out of posting this. Barry?

  • Jittery HD Video in CS4 After Updates - Audio Sync Before Updates

I just got a new laptop, an Asus G73JW. I loaded up my Adobe Production Premium CS4 suite, opened a project in HDV 1080i setting, but the audio was out of sync. I checked it in WMP and it appeared fine. I did the Adobe updates and the audio sync issue was fixed, unfortunately, the video is now jittery and looks horrible. I would much rather have audio sync issues, as least I can fix that, even if tedious.
I am running Windows 7 64 bit OS and all updates are done in both Win 7 and Adobe. I captured the HDV in HDV Split and they are .m2t files.
Any ideas what the jittery video issues are? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,
    Aaron

Well this is ebarassing, but it works fine now after a reboot. I just had the OS reinstalled after corruption issues in the original install. I forgot to turn Windows auto update off this time and I didn't realize that Windows was updating in the background as I was working. It is turned off now, and I went through my settings more carefully.
I am editing HD with my new laptop now with no isues and it works great.
Sorry for he false alarm, and thank you for the help Bill.

  • Lost audio control after update

Hi - My audio progress bar shows full audio image on the desktop at all times and audio can't be muted or turned down. It makes this rhythmic metronome sound, flap, flap, flap. I have my speakers hooked up so I use them to mute the sound. Mute on G5 doesn't work. Removing my speakers is no help
I have tried re-installing the system (archive and install)
Permission repair (get harmless SUID warning "usr/libexec/load_hdi" has been modified and will not be repaired)
    Re setting the PRAM (twice)
This happened before todays update (1/15/08)
Updates didn't help The SUID warning is post update
I have disconnected the keyboard with no change, even restarted with no keyboard attached, still the same.
This is a new one on me. Any ideas? or should I say help! I can't listen to music

ok fixed the problem. it was my external usb headphones that were wedged against the wall taking control of my sound. nothing to do with mac hardware or software. usb . . . i am getting bluetooth headphones tomorrow!

  • Audio and Widget Interaction

I have audio and a widget on a slide.  When the widget appears, the audio stops.  I have searched the forums and found nothing that applies to Captivate 7 or that has a solution.
    Can you please advise?

Are you not talking about an interaction? Because typically an interaction will pause the slide at its first frame to allow the interaction.
To what is your audio attached: slide, object? I found a workaround in CP6 (blogged about it at that time) that probably will also do it in CP7. Instead of attaching audio to slide or object, use an advanced action On Enter for the slide and add the command Play Audio.

  • Can't switch audio tracks after updating to Yosemite

Previously, I was able to choose different audio tracks in the QuickTime Player (for instance, director commentary or stereo vs. surround sound) in Mavericks, but now after updating to Yosemite, whenever I try to change the language/track by using the on-screen shortcut or by going to View -> Languages, it shows "English" listed twice with check marks next to each.
There is no way to select one of the other because it seems both are checked, though, obviously, it only uses the first in the list.
I have used QuickTime Player to switch audio tracks on all my files before updating to Yosemite, now it doesn't work for any. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? Seems like a bug. Are they aware of the issue?

  • Itunes choppy audio playback after update of software...no help in site!!!!

I have updated my itunes in the past month and am getting ready to abandon itunes all together (though I have loved it up until now!) All of my audio plays back so choppy you can not make out one word of any song. I purchase quite a bit of music and it is now useless! I have gone onto the web and spent hours searching for help only to discover there are lots of people out there with the same problem and apple seems to be doing nothing. I found another couple post on the forums with no reponse. I did find after some research on google that you should adjust the sample/bit rate on quicktime and it should help, this is not true. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE could someone from itunes/apple team give me a solution for my purchased songs?
Dell Xps 410   Windows XP Pro

We apparently have a major problem with "Paid for" merchandise that is NOT being supported by itunes/Apple
My hope here is that this site IS being moderated by some apple techs, but I am not seeing much. If you dig into the archives of this message board you will see a few of us out there that have been trying to get this resolved for a while and there are NO replies to their messages. Also I would like to state that apple makes it nearly impossible to find a good e-mail address that would go to anybody for help. We need to try and keep this topic on top of the message board to get it looked at by the right person. I don't understand the computer being under resourced though, I am running a dual processor and have 2 gig of ram.... my audio never plays correctly now regardless of itunes being opened alone of with any other applications. I NEED TO HAVE MY PAID FOR MUSIC BACK!
sorry-- had to get that off my chest.
    Thanks for your support
