Audio invalid encoding

Hi!
I want to run all au files but only the ones which have the proporties below are allowed:
ulaw,8000,8,signed,big endian,mono
How can i change this state?
I suppose, ok, I use this format then...But I can't convert any file to this format.
AudioFormat newFormat = new AudioFormat(
                     AudioFormat.Encoding.PCM_SIGNED, 8000 8,
                     1,2,8000
                    true);
             AudioInputStream newStream = AudioSystem.getAudioInputStream(newFormat, audioInputStream);
           audioFormat = newFormat;
          audioInputStream = newStream;
           AudioSystem.write(audioInputStream,AudioFileFormat.Type.AU, fout);
The error:
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Unsupported conversion: ULAW 8000.0 Hz, 8 bit, mono, 2 bytes/frame,  from PCM_SIGNED 8000.0 Hz, 8 bit, mono, 1 bytes/frame,
at javax.sound.sampled.AudioSystem.getAudioInputStream(AudioSystem.java:955)
How can i solve this problem?Thanks...

"How silly of me to be using device nodes!" I thought to myself. I should be using the ALSA hardware names, and it seemed like such a simple solution!
So I tried basically every combination of ALSA:HW:1,0 I could think of, with and without the ALSA, the HW, or both. Nothing seems to work.
Audacity, and many other programs can record audio from HW:1,0 (as long as tvtime is running)
VLC tries to open a file named "HW:1,0" in my home directory, in spite of suggesting it as an audio input in the drop-down menu .
The frontend for MythTV is now repeating this ad nauseam no matter what I change (almost like it isn't actually changing anything):
2014-02-26 13:57:21.026126 E AudioOutput Error: AOOSS: Error opening audio device ():
eno: No such file or directory (2)
While the backend is obsessed with this:

I am stumped here. Thank you in advance for any wisdom you may contribute to this conundrum ^_^!

  • What audio format encoded into iTunes HD Movies and TV shows?

What audio format encoded into iTunes HD Movies and TV shows, AC3, 5.1 DolbyDigital? Its been a long long while since I rented an HD movie on ATV since netflix came around with streaming and BD. Now they have rentals and purchases. Anyone know if the purchases play with 5.1 or better audio?

I think if you pull up the movie in the iTunes store it should tell you. For example, I pulled up the Star Trek movie that came out a few months ago, and it reports "Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound". Clearly you need to make sure that your hardware supports whatever sound configuration the movie employs.

  • The font 'Didot' contains an invalid encoding. Some characters may not display.

    I am receiving this message:
"The font 'Didot' contains an invalid encoding. Some characters may not display."
The message appears only in one form, not others. It appears only once, the first time I click on the form after opening it, then not again until I reopen the form.
The font is not embedded in the form and does not exist on my computer. The font is not employed in any field in the form or in its static elements.
Would appreciate any help in getting rid of this very annoying message.

I have a 2 page PDF form that is getting this error message every time I open the document.
"The font "HelveticaNeue" contains an invalid encoding. Some characters may not display."
The document has been in use for a year (never having this error message) and needed some updates. All that was changed was the addition of some extra fields and some options in one java script to reflect extra addresses in a drop down menu.
HelveticaNeue was in a PDF layout (from Illustrator) for the background but this variable was removed when I converted all fonts to curves (outlines) and replaced it in to my form. Under Properties>Fonts HelveticaNeue isn't even listed. All fields are Myriad Pro (triple checked) so I cannot understand how it is still an issue. It does not seem to have any impact on the document apart from the error message. It is hard to remove when it does not appear anywhere in the document except for the error message.
I have worked backwards and deleted all java scripts and it is still an issue. I have re-imported the background with active HelveticaNeue fonts and it is still an issue. Deleted any fields that relate to java scripts and it is still an issue. Tearing the hair out.....
Any help would be hugely appreciated as I would prefer to not have to start again from scratch.
Run FontBook and verify the Font. If defective open your System Install CD  open Fonts. Drag this font to Desktop.
If you can Remove the defective font by draging to Trash (if system font you'll have to give username and Password) .
Then drag the copy on Finder in same folder dective was removed from
THen Restart Computer with shift key down. Hold down until a screen comes up where you must sign in. wait until screen fully loads. Now try the PDF.  If works shut down Acrobat (or Reader) and the restart computer normally.

  • [solved] Various MP3s are marked as [invalid encoding] with Quod Libet

Various MP3s are marked as [invalid encoding] when I attempt to open them in Quod Libet. These same MP3s open fine in VLC. I checked and I have everything related to gstreamer installed: good, bad, ugly, ffmpeg. My thinking is that should do it but it doesn't. The error listed is "Resource not found." But of course Quod Libet does have the correct path to the file. Also, in case this could be related, the files all appear to show raw unicode in the comments tag rather than the comments. LIke so: 000010A3 000010E3 000057E6 000062C2 0004F705 0005B198 00008000 00008000 00005A9C 00005A3F.  Rather than... well I'm not sure what that's supposed to be.
I checked the wiki on gstreamer but and glanced at Pulse's but Pulse, ALSA, and OSS don't seem to be relevant.

Yep I went back and looked and it's everything, except one song, that has an "é" and also the bôa album. I'll file a bug report about and call it solved.
Also, I cleared all the extra tags and the junk text (which was probably a custom tag at  one point) that was in comments and it works. So maybe iTunes screwed up the formatting and Ex Falso took and mangled all of my comments because of it and something to do with unicode.

  • Chapter Markers for Audio Only encode to CD

I have an audio only sequence in Final Cut with chapter markers. I did Export>Using Compressor & when I look at the sequence in Compressor I can see the purple chapter markers in the Preview window. I've tried many different settings: MPEG-4 (disabled video in the inspector), AAC, AIFF. Every time I open these files in Quicktime, I lose the chapter markers.
I do have a .mov file that I exported from FCP to Quicktime & that shows the chapter markers, but once I try to export from Quicktime, the same thing happens... I keep losing the chapter markers.
What settings should I be using to keep the chapter markers with my audio sequence & encode this audio for CD?

Yes, thank you... I didn't realize markers don't work for audio.
I found a workaround on the FCP forum. Here it is for anyone watching:

  • Error: The font 'HelveticaNeue-UltraLight' contains an invalid encoding.

Keep getting this warning everytime I open a form I'm working on.  "The font 'HelveticaNeue-UltraLight' contains an invalid encoding. Some characters may not display."  Have found several threads about this but none with any good answers it seems.  Anybody encounter this one yet?
    Thanks!

Might have solved it in a round about way. Exported all pages out seperately and then re-assembled them and the error went away.

  • Problem with audio after encoding

    Hi,
In my movie I added a couple of songs. When playing back the DVD I created with iDVD (using professional encoding), I realised the audio of the songs was very distorted or something. It didn't sound very clear or crisp. I had originally saved the project as a disc image, so, did I do something wrong? Or did this problem happen because of the encoding or something?
    Thanks.

    Hi
How did the DiskImage play with Apple DVD-player ? OK ?
Most probably one of two things has happened.
    a. I only use .aiff audio in my movies eg from miniDV tape video or from standard audio-CDs
    • mp3 or from iTunes = Problems
    • mp3 I convert to .aiff then import into iMovie
    • iTunes - I export out as an audio-CD with iTune pref set to export as .aiff
then using this in my movie project
(Strange formats of video material can also be trouble makers
    I only use streamingDV
    • .wav, avi, .mpg4 etc. I convert to this first)
    b. Low free space on the internal (boot) hard disk also gives strange results
    • Never under 25Gb free space when running iDVD is my goal

  • No Audio when encoding an FLV

I'm attempting to slice up an hour long .flv into 15-minute chunks using Adobe Media Encoder CS5 (I don't have Premiere). I've cued up the start and end points, but when I export the video, there isn't any sound. I'm using the default settings, Audio is checked, at 256kbps, and there is no indication that it shouldn't export, but it doesn't. Any help please? I'm at my wit's end here, I've googled the hell out of this problem, and noone seems to want to help, they just want to pimp their third-party plugins and software...

    Hi,
If you're using CS5 or CS5.5, you're getting the same problem we are if you're using Quicktime Reference files.

There's no ALAW converted built-in, no. There probably is a plugin you can find on the internet to do the conversion, but, it's up to you to find it...
4.how will the number of channel affect output sound?Generally sound is designed to be rendered as one-channel per speaker... so "stereo" is 2-speakers, "surround sound" is 5 or 7 speakers, etc... you don't have to follow this rule, but, that's the "goal" of multi-channel sound.
5.how will the data array size affect output sound? what value should we put instead of 4096?Assuming you're doing that code to play a file, that's essentially your "buffer" size. If you use a buffer that's too big, it'll take a long time to begin playing... if you use a buffer that's too small, it'll have too much overhead and your audio may skip.
The standard sound format is 2-channel 16-bit PCM played at 44.1K, so a buffer size of 4096 represents about 25 milliseconds of sound... which is a good length for a buffer. I'd recommend keeping your buffer length to where it represents 20-50 milliseconds worth of data...but you can always have a longer buffer. Standard anti-skip CDs generally use a 4-second buffer, which would be 705,600 bytes...

  • Low audio after encoding to WMV

    Hello,
I have a short video - only 3 clips - that were imported from WMV files (video only).  I recorded a voiceover directly into Premiere Pro along with two sound clips that were at the beginning and end of the project.  I made sure their levels were correct in the timeline.  I exported the project as a WMV and the audio volume level in the finished file is much softer than the audio I used in the project.  Other than boosting the gain and volume in the project and then re-encoding, is there another solution?  I feel like there is a setting I am missing.
    Thanks
    -Rich

    Kurt,
Here is an example of the same Keyframes (Audio Volume) with both the Linear and the Bezier Curves. Notice how the Linear are straight lines from/to each Keyframe, while the Bezier are curves with control "Handles." The Ease Out/Ease In are very similar to this also.
    Good luck,

  • Problems with ac3-audio not encoded in apple's compressor

    Hi everyone,
I'm working with DVD Studio Pro 4.0 and when encoding audio with the compressor into ac3, there were hardly any problems.
Now I have to get along with external ac3-files, not encoded with compressor. Settings, format etc. are identical to the compressor-created files; despite of these similar settings, I now expericene a very low sound (about 3x lower), not comparable to the volume of the compressor encoded files.
Has anyone an idea on this subject?
    Thanks.

  • (invalid encoding)

Okay so I have this problem with invalid characters. For ex. I have an external hdd that i have used on windows and on debian/ubuntu and some of my folders contains åäö, but i get a "?" . And it is the same with gnome terminal but there i can change the charecter encoding to unicode(UTF-8) and then i works fine, but it keeps jumping back to the old charecter settings.
    In rc.conf i use "en_US.UTF8" and have tried "en_US"
    (Sorry for any miss spelling)

  • Audio Error / Encoding Cancelled

I have had several problems recently when importing .mov files into DVDSP 4.
The project works fine, then when I build the project, it is cancelling with the error message 'Error while encoding file'. It doesn't tell me exactly what the error is, but when I look back at the original project I see that the audio file has now been removed. I've tried various workarounds with these files, but the result is the same.
Can anybody suggest a possible reason for this?

Seems I needed to make more disk space available.
