Audio Sounds good in SP and bad in FCP

Hi,
I preface: Recently i did a clean up of system with prefernce manager and pro maintenance tools.
I just sent an audio file from FCP to Soundtrack Pro (SP) to get rid of clicks. Sounded great in SP but with more clicks  than it originally had in FCP. Never had this problem. I'm sure it's related to the fact when i went to export the file from SP after taking clicks out it asked me if I wanted to Reference Source Audio or Include Source Audio. I chose Include Source Audio even though it said in the box that it wouldn't  play correctly if I didn't reference source audio, but it said i could change the setting in preferences back to the default. I did change it back to reference source audio, resaved and exported and it still has all those clicks in FCP.
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks,
joe

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your help. I played it in i tunes and fcp today and it sounds good in both, but yesterday it was cracking throughout. I don't understand. Bizarre.
Thanks again!
joe

  • Audio sounds good on computer but shakey on TV in spots

    Hello,
2 hr project. all audio levels are consistently between -6 and -12. Project sounds perfect in fcpx. When exported to dvd and played on a computer it sounds fine, BUT when played on a new hd tv audio at various points in the project make the tv's audio shake just a little.
I used bass boost throughout project cause i wanted a fuller sound. I think it might be that, but short of having to go in and adjust all bass levels i was wondering if anyone knew of a filter in fcpx that normalizes everything so that it sounds good on computers and tvs? i think there's a broadcast safe filter. Will that take care of the problem, or is there something else? A little more detail - my audio levels were originally above -6 consistently via an someone who worked on the projedct throughout entire project. when i moved them back between -6 and -12 i didn't adjust any of the bass boost levels that he originally established.
    Thanks for your help! joe

    Update....
So far, the video made with iDVD only sounds clear via the computer or surround sound system. The sound is hissing/fuzzy sounding at the "s" and "f" sounds on ALL regular tv speakers that I've tried it on, mono or stereo either one.
I saw the reply that stated there are no audio settings in iDVD with "OneStep..." So nothing can be adjusted in iDVD to make it sound good on all tvs? And no clues as to what's causing this issue?

  • Solved: Attention T510 owners: Audio / sound volume goes up and down

    Hi all,
I am a new owner of a T510, and have discovered the audio goes up and down when listening to music through the speakers, running on battery. I would like to get in contact with other T510 owners, who can test if their unit has the same problem - try this:
    1. Check all the settings in the SmartAudio control panel (using the newest driver) - making sure no EQ is set, nor VOIP settings or anything like that.
    2. Check that no plugin was loaded in the sound control options (I am using Windows 7, 32 bit).
Now try and play this youtube song, and listen to the volume at around 40 seconds when the lead singer begins - does your audio volume go up and then down again when he stops? If you listen to the complete song, it goes up and down some more times.

    Edit  #1:
I can unfortunately now add, that the problem is also there when using the AC adapter. It is so **bleep** annoying the volume fluctuates, and it is VERY easy to hear on the above link. Hoping to hear from other T510 users what their findings is. For information I can tell I am using the power plan called "Maximum Performance", in the power manager from Lenovo. The T510 model is a 4349-4JG.

    Edit #2:
I have now had time to test it some more, using another HDD (didnt want to reinstall windows on my SSD, hehe) - and can hereby say that it seems to be a bug in the audio driver / SmartAudio control panel. Clean Windows 7, 32 bit, has the problems - but when you disable the VOIP function in the Smart Audio control panel, the problem disappears (actually it was just the VOIP function that was active before). If you then try to enable the VOIP function again, the "problem" does not come back (hence the bug comes into action now). After this test, I put my SSD back into the laptop, and tried to mess with the VOIP functions (again, had already tried to mess with it), and it did not do anything (hence the bug is active now). Therefore I reinstalled the audio driver - tried to check if the problem was there, it was. Then I did the same procedure as on the other HDD, tried to disable the VOIP (before I installed anything else and such!), and the problem is now gone. And the result now is that when I try and enable the VOIP function again, the problem does not come back (hence the bug is now active) = me happy
    In short terms:
The bug can either have the VOIP enabled and you can not disable it, or it can be the other way around - it cant be enabled. To "turn" the bug around, reinstall the audio driver :-)

    Hi,
Ive been having this problem with my Compaq CQ60-615DX for almost a year now. When im listening to music I can hear the audio going up and down through it. One sec itll be loud and  the next its like the audio being turned down (but the volume bar does not move). I also have SmartAudio with the Conexant High Definition. So, I see that you have figured it out. Ive tried to understand what you said but im not very literate with computers. Could you explain how to stop it step by step? I would appreciate it. Thanks.

  • Other audio sounds bad

    Hello,
When i am talking to someone on skype, othe audio sounds very bad and quite. Is this fixable?
    Best wishes,
    MAXman21000

To be effective, it's best to have the noise floor at or below -42dB and vocals riding around -15/18dB to get that clean separation expected from a treated room.
Look for at least a two second gap in your recording that has just the noise in it to capture a sample (right click, capture noise print).  I generally record 10 seconds of the rooms ambiance just for this purpose.
Much will depend on your initial capture and settings will vary and while the example below is a good starting point to tweak from there
it's best that you consider using a log curve, and add points to trace noise print contour to follow.
Back off the reduction settings and use small numbers for smoothing and transition width to avoid smearing/watery or tinny sounding results.
Like SteveG mentioned, using multiple passes in subtle steps works for many.  Experiment and let your ears be your guide.
Depending on the situation, its best leaving some slight noise in then try to remove it all and risk degrading the vocals or creating un-natural sounding, abrupt transitions from floor to voice.
Especially if you'll mix in a bed of music or the final result winds up as a compressed file on the net and that little extra effort gets lost anyway.

  • MSI calls gt780 a "sound machine" but it has bad dpc latency and ground loop

Good quality sound on a laptop is governed by two things, freedom from ground loops and low DPC latency.
Ground Loop Hum: this occurs when manufacturers use poorly isolated power supplies (CHEAP POWER SUPPLIES).  How it manifests is when you plug your laptop into an external sound production system (Stereo or headphones or mixer, etc).  Well when you turn up the volume you will notice this weird humming/slightly screetching noise.  It often will change pitch as you move mouse etc.  Its a ground loop.  It comes from poor isolation and ALL PROFESSIONAL audio equipment is designed to eliminate this.  Even a cheap ghettoblaster is  But not this "sound specialized laptop."  Aweful.  You will know it is a ground loop because when you hear the noise unplug th epower supply to the laptop and Poof!  its gone.
DPC Latency  Where as ground loops will just give you poor sound output, DPC latency is a far more sinister problem for a person who is going to use a computer for professional sound.  It is related to something called an IRQ request and it occurs on laptops that are not designed to prioritize audio.
Download this tool and run it on your gt780.  http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtml  You will note its mostly green but occasionally it will have red spikes.  Those red spikes represent audio drop outs so if your hope was to use this computer for professional sound capture or production (protools, abletone, cuebase).  Think again.  Those will be big "POP!!!!!"s when they occur during actual audio manipulation.
Sometimes manufacturers release firmware or drivers that help with DPC.  Lets pray but as for the ground loop.  That is not and will not go away unless they get it their hearts to use a proper power supply.  Shame on you msi for touting this as an audio laptop when its audio simply sucks crap.  Basically you threw a few loud speakers and you call it made for sound??? HARDLY.
Other then that its fast.  What a waste...

Ok, I have found out the "sleep mode" kicking in was one of the major culprits.  I dissabled that and latencies are a lot better.  No red spikes in over ten minute but not yet under any load.  If any one else is trying the program please post your results.

  • Beep tone and other unwanted audio sounds

I've looked through earlier posts, and see that this is a known issue. Also, it's been around for over three years since it was being discussed back then when I got my G5.
In my case I think it's gotten a little worse over time.
Sounds I hear, when the G5 is being monitored through an amplifier and speakers in a quiet environment are: Constand fairly high pitched, steady tone, similar to color bars tone. Continuous beeping, like heart monitor. Static and other garbage sounds when screen is updated.
In earlier posts I see that Apple pretty much discounts this. And haven't seen anyone posting an answer.
It's not awful, but it's annoying, and I agree with many... This kind of machine, which is used in so many studio applications, should not create audio sounds.
AppleCare suggested buying better cables to go from the G5 to the Amp. This did help, and I'm thinking of buying one of those super Monster type of cables to see if that helps even more.
They say it's a Ground Loop issue, which is complicated, and to eliminate it they suggest buying an isolation transformer. Not clear to me if that's used on the AC, or something you run the audio signal through.
At any rate, anyone out there with a definitive answer, would love to hear from you.
Mine seems to be related to the operation of the G5 and Amp together. This sets off these Ground Loop problems. When I monitor the G5 with head phones, I can't hear the problem. This may be related to the fact that to hear it you have to run the signal through an amp and boost the volume on the amp. Possibly there's not enough gain, when listening through phones, to hear the problem. But I think it has to do with interference when amp + computer are hooked together.
Running G5 into a Yamanha 777 amp/receiver. Sounds definitely originate with the G5.

    JonG1-
That is a good description of some of the sounds that I have heard. It is really hard to pinpoint the source of some. I am convinced that most of the whining comes from my graphics card.
One of the worst culprits I have are a pair of external seagate drives that when powered on and accessed make some very annoying sounds. I think the sound has to do with FireWire data transfers. No matter what I did I could not get rid of the sound. The only thing that worked was turning off the drives.
Have you had the wiring in your house checked? I found most of the outlets in my house to be grounded properly except the ones where I was using the computer. Go figure.
Do you have this unit on a UPS? Sometimes the units that do not put out a true sin wave make those annoying noises worse.
IMHO monster cable products are very overrated and extremely over-priced.
Could you reference the posts where Apple discounts noise? My experience is that they are very forthcoming with suggestions to mitigate said noise. Ground loop is not really that complicated to troubleshoot. Plug a terminal strip into the wall and the computer, monitor, amp and speakers if powered into it. How's the noise?
Forgive me if you have seen it but I have found this document on audio noise solutions to be useful. It does address your gain concerns.
That is all I can think of at the moment.
    Luck-

Ok, if you are connecting the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) to the existing wireless network, then the DSL in the next room is most likely a combination DSL modem and wireless router. Thanks for clarifying that for me.
Although they may only be separated by a single wall, the building material used in that wall may be enough to prevent the AX from receving a "good" signal from the DSL router.
Since I don't know what computing equipment you have available, please check out this AirPort User Tip: AirPort - Optimal Base Station Placement to see if you can get some SNR measurements at the location of your AX. To do this properly, you will want to power-off the AX and only get these measurements for the DSL router.

Hey Guys, I have a IMAC G5 and I just uploaded Ilife 08 to it,  the problem is, when I create a DVD it sounds good until I burn it. About 1/4 of the way through it the sound stops..  What's going on with it?   Is it the encoding proocess??  I'm stumped... Help me out here!

    Hi
    A. iMovie'08 to 11 are not the tools of choice if one aim to do a DVD as they all discard the quality of the picture by discarding every second line in it. NO way around this due to that it happens between Event's and Project's so as soon as it is being edited - Quality is lost.
    B. I use iMovie HD6 or FinalCut
    C. if iM'08 to 11 is a must - THEN DO NOT - Share to iDVD - BUT - "Share to Media Browser" and as Large (or ev. Medium)
THEN DO - Save as a DiskImage and see that this plays OK and ALL SOUND
    D. if added audio from iTunes - then instead in iTunes - Collect all needed Audio into a NEW PlayList then BURN this as an Audio-CD (.aiff - NOT .mp3 or other) - Then use the Files on this CD in Your Movie Project's (I do)
    E. I only use .aiff audio - 48kHz 16-bit (miniDV tape Camera) or 44.1kHz Audio CD - NEVER .mp3 or .wma or other file format - ALL is converted first into .aiff - ALWAYS ! - I have very few problem with Audio in my projects in iMovie or FinalCut !

  • My audio/sound has been erratic for a while and now I have no output Help!

My audio/sound has been erratic for a while, both output and input, sometimes one would worked but not the other and sometimes both would be none excitant.
System preference does not show what I have connected aka external speakers or headset and the sound output in menu is grayed plus the output on system preferences output as well, sound input looks ok now.
Had Tiger, so I upgraded to Leopard to see if that would helped, Output use to come back after a while, however now input works but output hasn't worked for days, I can hear sound when I am rebooting or starting the computer, but its gone right after.
Since the Mac its fame for their audio stability, no ones seem to know how to solve the problem, so I am kinda desperate.
I have tried the following; ran repair permissions, looked for fluff lol!....still cannot fix the glitch. Any new ideas please!!
    Thanks in advance!

Since the problem existed before installing Leopard, it is clearly a hardware problem. Updating a broken system does not fix it, in fact many times it makes it worse or at least harder to diagnose.
I suggest you repost in the appropriate hardware forum - in your case the G4-17 forum(s) here:

When streaming a movie with the new Apple TV, and using a DSL Internet connection, all audio sound works, e.g., the music track, but the audio track with the actor's voices, does not work. What can I do?

    Hi Brian,
Thanks restoring and restarting didn't fix my problem - i have started it fresh and still it doesn't work. Basically I press ONCE on the remote, after the machine has not had any commands for 10 minutes, and the cursor skips from one end of the menu to the other - so I can't choose network or update software etc - I sometimes manage to stop it randomly in the middle of the menu if I press on a command in the middle of the cursor skipping all the menu steps...not sure what the problem is but I have basically not used my brand new apple tv since I bought it for that reason! I should call Apple support I suppose! grrrr hate wasting time with stuff like this!
    Thanks for your help though!

  • How can I record an audio sound and convert it to a ringtone?

How can I record an audio sound and convert it to a ringtone?

Record your voice using iPhone (for ringtone only 35 secs or under are valid), sync iPhone with iTunes.
In iTunes the recorded voice is listed under Music as some_numbers.m4a.
Right click on the item and choose Create AAC version.
Drag the converted voice onto the desktop.
Delete the voice copy in iTunes. (important step)
On desktop, rename the some_number.m4a to something_more_intelligent.m4r
Drag it back to iTunes and you will find it under Tones.
Now select it (for sync) and connect your iPhone, do a sync.
If everything works out, it will be in Settings > Sounds > Ringtone.
Now choose a contact you want to assign this ringtone, tap Edit and add the ringtone.
    Hope this helps.

  • Ipod touch 5 sound crackles and bad quality - how do I fix it?

When I plug my 5th gen iPod touch into speakers or headphones the sound quality is awful and it is crackles and there is lots of "noise". There must be something wrong with How can I fix this?

    Do headphones sound OK?
Assuming the speaker sound OK when connected to another device:
    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack or other hardware problem?.

  • Goods and Bads with the 6110 Navigator

    Hi
New user of this forum and a proud owner of a Nokia 6110 Navigator. I had the 6280 but after 2 SW upgrades and still problem with it, I gave up.
First impression of the 6110 is good, but I found a couple of small things that ”irritates” me.
1 – The timer function when you write “0200” and press options instead of green (call) button.
2 – The original headset is too cheap to be an expensive phone like this, should be more like Koss “plug-in-your-ear” kind of headphones, instead of the small “put-close-to-your-ear” thing that is included.
Also, the straight up cable from the top of the phone is no good. Makes the phone lie bad in the pocket. I also guessing that this cable is going to snap after a while. Why not a 90 degree “adapter” or something?
3 – When you sending an SMS, on my 6280 you could choose “last used number” or something like that, now you have to choose name, and then number, and then OK to go back to the SMS.
Well.. that’s it so far. Anyone else have goods and bads about this phone ?
    mvh / regards
    Timmy

    hi im havin same issues!!
i went from 6280 to 6110 after i smashed it
1.first off i didnt kno of the timer option...good bcoz it was annoyin not havin a stopwatch
    2. that "recent use list"...lack of it...is annoying. i just made groups of ppl i msg most
    3. menu organisation is confusing
    4. in call history, it only shows most recent time for that entry, ven if they rang 5 times that day, also they dont show call long eg duration of 3mins 40secs
    5. on my 6280, i had a shortcut menu as mi left select button, cant do this now
    6. power button is end call button, lotsa accidental turn offs
    7. cant turn off start up tone
oh well i still like it
