Audio-tracks delayed

With my *Digi 003 rack* and *Logic Studio Pro 8.0.2* I suddenly have recorded audio-tracks delayed when played back. If I play a guitar right on click and play it back, it is totally out of timing. Never had that one before. When I use the *Apogee Duet Soundcard*, all is working fine. Has anyone any idea what that may be?
Cheers!
Michael

Hi Anthro,
I just repeat this test for you rigth now..
it is very fresh test... in order to have a perfect sync when recording an external instrument with "Software Monitoring" turn to "OFF" (for be able to repeat this test on Logic that usually is used with SW turned to "ON" you must restart Logic or Core Audio before starting the test)
I repeat this test refering to specific Logic setting : *Software Monitoring turn to "OFF"*
(when SW is turn to ON, every external incoming Audio input is recorded in perfect sync with the SMPTE and BPM time)
I have use an External Midi Drum machine as sound source!
see the following pictures:
this is the MIDI object quantize at 1/4:
this is the Audio recording of the MIDI object and the relative coreaudio setting preferences
*software monitoring off*
this is the Audio recording of the same Midi object with a correct Recording Delay Compensation setting.
*software monitoring off*
If you have doubt about this test, feel free to replay me... I hope this should be help you to find a good sync....
in any case... this is not the same for all Audio devices, they can have different driver-hardware adding or less DELAY...there are faster device like Motu 828mk3 and there are not so fast device like as Digidesign core audio drivers that have proprietary security and rigths protection)
however, FOR A PERFECT Sync... i suggest to extend the resolution of the Samples Editor...
bacause some device can be set as 1124 instead 1024 (or different value)
(on My MOtu I get a near to perfect sync around 1009 /1012 Delay
(I hope this post can be helpful also for the people that they +*"cannot believe that"*+ )
Good Luck

  • Recording Multiple Audio Tracks - delay problems in 7.2 Pls HELP

    Hi, I'm finding very buggy behavior - if I record across several audio tracks (say 5 mono channels) for longer then 10-15 sec. Logic HANGS for a long time when I'm done with a take - 15-25 secs of the spinning ball icon, and then will redraw and start the dialog box that says it's computing the overview. I'm currently on 7.2.2 but I also tried going back to 7.2.1 and it's still doing this. I have the "faster overview calculation" box un-checked, but it didn't seem to make any difference either way. I also tried this on a new file, same problem -
    I also already tried recording to different drives, and selecting and unselecting the 'record limit' dialog in the record destination dialog - I usually have this set to a max recording time of about 7 minutes. None of these changes affected the sluggish behavior.
    Anybody else know of this and know of a fix/workaround? I have a session to record tonight with multiple players and this session is going to go like molasses unless I figure this out!
    thanx

    Hmm, I've never had anything like this. I'm wondering whether it indicates an underlying disk problem?
    Try running repair permissions and a disk diagnostic tool if you have it. Are you using an internal or external drive? Try recording to a different drive if you can and see whether the problem persists.
    You could also try creating a different user and running Logic under that account, to see if it still shows the same behaviour (if not, then it could be a user permissions issue or something funky with your user account).

  • Multiple use of the same video time line for different audio tracks

    I have a 90 minute video timeline
    I will be putting different audio tracks in multiple languages.
    But as i was just editing i wondered if i could use only a segment (30 minutes ) of the timeline
    along with a 30 minute audio.
    Example:
    So the first thing on the menu will be the whole 90 minute video
    with a 90 minute music track
    Second thing might be the 90 minute video with a 90 minute commentary
    Third thing might be the first 30 minutes of video with a different commentary
    Forth thing on the menu might be the first 30 minutes of video and 30 minutes of
    a different language
    Etc.
    I realize i will need to make space (mb)  for all the audio.....but if i could use the same video or pieces of it
    that would be fantastic.
    If i can do this i am presuming i should use playlists and chapter playlists to get it done?
    I have never done this before and would love some feedback on an over view or tips
    that might save me some guess work
    Thanks for any help :-)

    Hey Stan!
    Thanks for your help...i think i am really getting this. And have learned a lot.
    I had to go back to my computer programming and flowcharting skills to figure out the flow :-)
    And i still have 153mb to spare when i build it.
    I ended up lining up all the different videos and audios exactly for each time line except for 1 timeline.
    Question: I know if the audio is shorter it will be ok.... but if the audio is longer than the video on a timeline ( and its the audio i assigned it by specify link )
    Will the DVD keep playing until the audio is done or end when the video is done playing?
    2nd Question: I am previewing the playlists with the "Preview from Here" feature
    I specify the link and chapter within that timeline ( it is the only timeline with more than one chaper....the one with the longer audio than video from the question above )
    For most of the audios i only need video chapter 1.....the preview here plays it ok but if i hit the skip to next (in the preview button on theright of the play button)...it goes to the next chapter #2... instead of the next timeline chapter 1 like it is programed to do from the playlist.
    I am wondering if this is just fluke in the preview feature...or will it do that on the actual DVD as well?
    Lastly because i am using different timelines. I am wondering if there are delays between playlists? for example...i have a long audio that continues between three timelines...i have spliced it pretty fine so it picks up perfectly on the next timeline...but i am wondering if the DVD when playing in realtime will have a little black space inbetween timelines.
    Thanks again for your help and time :-)
    Mark
    Hiya Mark.
    DVD-Video is video dominant, with the audio always following the visuals so if the audio ends berfore the video it will not (okay, should not) be a problem.
    However, the other way around could go either way - if the actual video timeline has ended the audio may well truncate so I would personally add videoblack at the very least.
    I am also not at all sure how you are going to work a single contiguous audio file across 3 separate playlists. This sounds flawed in concept to me (have I misunderstood your meaning?). In DVD-Video the format is graphically/visually dominant - the audio must always be tied to a visual asset be it a menu or a timeline - so there is no way to have one piece of audio playing across 3 timelines and having it play back glitch free whilst the timeline changes. You will not get a black space - it will simply stop. So unless I have misunderstood you in some way.........
    As Stan says, preview is flaky - the only way to know for sure is to multiplex & burn.

  • How can I turn off the sound from the original midi  or audio tracks when I turned on the duplicate tracks for editing ?

    How can I turn off the sound from the original midi or audio tracks when I edit or listen to the duplicate tracks in Logic Pro 9 ?
    I'm using iMac desktop with Mac OS X Version 10.7.3. Pls advise.

    Dan,
    It sounds like one of your preferences has changed.
    Go to preferences > audio > general, and make sure "track mute/solo" is set to "CPU saving (slow response)". It is probably set to "Fast " at the moment.
    This setting (fast) basically causes immediate muting from the channel strip while your song is in play. This is because the audio is still being read from the hard drive, but the channel strip is simply muted.... like a hardware mixer. When set to "CPU saving", the audio from that track, when muted, is actually stopped from streaming from the hard drive, but there is a couple second delay before the audio is actually muted.
    One would think that the fast setting is generally preferable, except when you need to do what you are doing. The only way to keep duplicate copies of channel strips acting independent of one another is to leave this setting on the "CPU saving" setting.
    Hope that helps

  • When I record an audio track, there is a waveform. When I stop recording, the waveform disappears and becomes a straight line. It also disappears from the track edit window. But the sound is there. How can I stop the waveform from disappearing?

    When I record an audio track using Logic Pro X, there is a visible waveform which appears as I record. When I stop recording, the waveform disappears and becomes a straight line. It also disappears from the track edit window. But the sound is still there. How can I stop the waveform from disappearing? And can I do something to view it after it has disappeared? Anyone know the anser?

    In Logic:
    Preferences/Audio Set Recording Delay to 0 <zero>
    This should always be set to zero unless a specific set of circumstances exist and you're audio drivers do not report position correctly.
    On occasion, usually when importing a Logic 9 project, Logic-X randomly changes this to a negative/positive number.  It's actually a bug in Logic, as it should always display the waveform.

  • HELP! External MIDI is playing EARLY compared to the audio tracks!

    Hi Guys
    I have a project in L9 which has about 12 audio tracks, each running a few effects (fairly basic ones, nothing too heavy).
    Tonight I am recording a rhythm part on an external MIDI device (my Kurzweil synth). I'm quantising this part to 1/8 notes, and in the piano roll editor, it's lining up perfectly after quantization.
    However, when I play back the project, the MIDI is all EARLY!
    I've tried soloing just the MIDI and the click, and the MIDI part runs uniformly early compared to the click track.
    I believe this has something to do with the delay compensation that is in effect across all the audio channels... what's happening is that all the audio content is being delayed so all the tracks sync with each other. But for some reason, MIDI is not part of this delay compensation, and is playing in perfect time, and hence sounding early compared to the audio material.
    I've done a test new project with just one MIDI track, and when quantized, it DOESN'T suffer this problem... ie, it aligns perfectly with the click track.
    Is there any way to get external MIDI instruments to be part of the delay compensation process? Or is there some other solution to this issue?
    Really desperate here as this has come out of the blue and I can't think of any way to solve it!
    Thanks heaps guys,
    Mike

    Is this something new for Logic 9?
    I don't know, I have never used external MIDI with Logic (8 or 9) - but think it is new, yes.
    I wonder if there's a way to set the global default for MIDI so that it always has delay compensation? I can't see why anyone would want to use an external MIDI device and not have it in perfect time with their audio material!
    Yes, there is. You'll have to set it up in AMS first (choose *New Device*, and then configure the device and cable it) In Logic, you'll have to go into the Environment. You need a *Standard Instrument Object* for a monotimbral device, a, *Multi-Instrument Object* for multitimbral devices and a *Mapped Instrument object* for Drummodules. Explanation starts on pg 1082 of the LP9 pdf manual.
    Once it is all setup, you can make a template of it, or you can import the Environment layer into new projects.

  • Can't hear playback for multiple audio tracks

    Hi there!,
    So I was mixing several audio tracks (6) with fade ins/outs and had locked them down. I had saved my project and the next time I opened it - only my first track played while the rest of the tracks didn't. The other audio tracks on the other hand do show volume levels and that it is "playing" in the meter - but no audio. How can I get them all to play?
    I know it's not an overload problem (playhead is white) I've recently unlocked the tracks and changed my preferences to "minimun delay when playing instruments live" but - I still can't get them all to play. . .if you could please help, I'd appreciate it! ::smiles::

    nevermind! it was the DUCKING feature. . . Control>Ducking

  • How to play multiple audio tracks simultaneously?

    Hi there,
    I am having problem with playing multiple audio tracks. I want to play 2 or more audio tracks at exact time (without delay) - is it possible? how can it be done?

    So, essentially, you're trying to take a recording of say, a singer and a guitar player, and end up with the singer in one file and the guitar in the other. Got it.
    [http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/desktop/media/jmf/2.1.1/solutions/Merge.html]
    That sample will merge multiple input files into a single file. Because you want to play the files together rather than save them, just take the sample and strip out all of the DataSink stuff, and add the following line right after the Processor "outputProcessor" is realized...
    outputProcessor.setContentDescriptor(null);
    So, it'll make the following revision to the code:
         // Create the output processor
         ProcessorModel outputPM = new MyPMOut(merger);
         try {
             outputProcessor = Manager.createRealizedProcessor(outputPM);
                        outputProcessor.setContentDescriptor(null);
             outputDataSource = outputProcessor.getDataOutput();
         } catch (Exception exc) {
             System.err.println("Failed to create output processor: " + exc);
             System.exit(-1);
         }That'll make the outputProcessor play the file, as if it was a Player object. You won't have any visual controls, but if you need visual controls, then don't do that, and just create a Player object to play the outputDataSource.

    I'm having the same problem. After figuring out the negative recording delay number that's accurate (which logic's manual says you should rarely ever have to adjust from zero) it worked but I had to adjust it for different sessions by the same process. Very time consuming. Is this a (completely unacceptable) bug?! Will there be a fix coming soon? I keep reading about people having this problem. I could have sworn the 80's were over...

  • Unwanted Duplicate Audio Track

    I've got a few video clips that keep giving me trouble in iMovie '13. When played back in iMovie, they have a second audio track that is a slow-mo version of the main audio.
    I recorded the clips at 1080p on a Nikon d3100. I converted them to 720p using Handbrake and the Apple Universal preset. That process output three .m4v files. Each .m4v file plays just fine. No audio issues at all.
    Next, I import the files into a new event in iMovie. Import process appears to go fine. However, when I play back the imported file (whether through the media library or the timeline), a second audio feed appears. This new track is a slow-mo version of the main track. It is delayed by about five seconds and plays right over the top.
    I have no idea what's going on. Any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks for the suggestions.
    I wanted to lower the resolution as the 1080p video seemed to be destroying my mid-2011 Mac mini. I thought 720p might be a mit more managable.
    I did have the same result whether dragging directly to the timeline or using the import feature.
    Ultimately, I solved the problem by "exporting" the 1080p video to 720p files through QuickTime. I must have had some odd setting enabled in HandBrake.

  • Separate Audio Tracks

    I'm using logic with little knowledge of the program.
    I have 1 audio track with samples, then i needed more audio tracks for more samples and vocals, however it seems that every individual audio track plays all the other audio tracks thru it at the same time.
    I soloed the vocals to work on them but the samples are playing thru that track too? Why does one audio track play all audio tracks?

    But what does universal track mode do exactly?
    No one really knows. But it must be enabled
    Well, of course someone knows. It switches the mixer's behaviour in handling stereo tracks. UTM only uses interleaved stereo files, while split stereo files are better treated without UTM. You can google it to follow some of the ongoing discussions.
    However, the disabling of UTM can cause some problems, like you just experienced.
    Also, if you don't mind another question, when should i use stereo tracks and when should i use mono tracks?
    You should use stereo tracks for instruments (real or software) that produce a stereo sound.
    You should use mono tracks for monophonic instruments like single voices. However you can switch a mono track to stereo by using the gain plugin (mono->stereo) and/or processing the voice through a stereo effect like the stereo delay.
    Panning of stereo and mono tracks is different, also. While you can pan a mono track, you cannot pan a stereo track. What panning does with a stereo track is to move the balance between left and right channel. This you should be aware of when mixing. UTM (or disabling it) is used to solve this problem, too.

  • Merging video with an offset audio track

    This is driving me nuts.
    I want to merge a quicktime with an audio track, but I want to have the audio track to start playing at a specified time offset. So given a .mov file and a .wav file, combine the two files and have the audio start at something like 1 second in.
    I can't seem to get this to work (though I can easily merge the two files). I would really appreciate any pointers in this regard.
    Best Regards,
    - Rob

    Thanks for the response. While this would work I prefer do do all of this work in code (which of course is more complicated) mainly because the delay period is dynamic.
    One solution I came up with was to create a custom effect (modified from the "Gain Effect" example) to insert the blank data in the buffer which then gets merged with the video track.
    This works, but I'm wondering if there are better ways of doing this. If you have other solutions I'd really like to hear them.
    Thanks!

  • How can I position my added audio track?

    Hi all,
    I need to have a delayed start for my added audio track.
    The music should only start 30 seconds after the movie starts.
    I tried to position it manually to a second movie sequence but it doesn't seem to work... it will only place itself at the beginning.
    If anybody has clue?
    Thanks in advance.

    Apple have made background music rather simple in iMovie.
    You are allowed only one track, and it just starts at the top.
    I have found the only way to do this is to create multiple projects that later are assembled together as a whole.
    Not the nicest solution, but it works.
    Duplicate the project,
    then delete the 30 seconds you want music free, and add the music track,
    save this new video out to the camera roll.
    Open the origonal project, delete the bit you just added music to, and insert the other video you just made.
    This way you can have multiple music tracks too .
    I tend to edit the whole video, and then break it into parts to add music and adjust the edits.
    Then assemble all the parts again for a final output.
    This is reasonably quick for small home movies.
    I realise that everytime you save to camera roll you lose quality of video;
    but it is minimal and I also tend to archive out the iMovie Projects just in case I want to edit again later.
    I tend to use 'Splice' or 'Voddio' if I want to edit more complex stuff and retain quality.

  • Movie Playing multiple audio tracks & echoing

    I have a movie that is in a symbol that i want to play after a set amount of time by using setInterval. The function works - but when it shows the symbol and plays - it plays multiple audio tracks at the same time - sounding like an echo and or a 1-2 second delay on the same audio track. It also seems the audio starts playing on the main root without actually triggering the playhead of the video symbol.
    Following is the code i am using for both timer and the video. Any pointers?
    // interval
             var timer = setInterval(onTimer,10000);
             var mysymbol = sym.getSymbol("btn1_video");
             // function
             function onTimer() {
                // clear last interval
                clearInterval(timer);
                // action
                sym.$("btn1_video").show();
    //and on on the movie symbol timeline trigger:
    var vid = $("<video width='818' height='460' autoplay='autoplay' preload='auto' controls='controls' id='videoID'>" +
    "<source src='video/testvideo.m4v' type='video/mp4' />" +
        "<source src='video/testvideo.webm' type='video/webm' />" +
       "<source src='video/testvideo.ogg' type='video/ogg' />" +
       "This browser is not compatible with HTML 5" +
    "</video>");
    sym.$("btn1_video").append(vid);

    You identified the problem. I thought that you had to highlight the first song to get the playlist going, but all that does is make the first song repeat itself. Thanks for the guidance.

  • Audio tracks output splitter method? or splitter plug-in? PLEASE Help

    Fellow Logic-addicts,
    I am scratching my head around a problem.
    I already use a lot of external hardware processing, and nearly always as inserts
    processing(compressors,eq,analogue filtering)
    Until sometime ago I did the same for using more send-return type of fx like
    reverb/delays/modulation etc....
    Thus I had to duplicate a dry audiotrack and process it, and bounce then blend in with the other track.
    In a recent project I mixed, I ended up with some sessions with a leadvocal track
    and 5 copies of this track all processed through various fx like short reverb,short delay, long delay, doubler etc..., because of using hardware fx.
    I wonder if it's possible in Logic to insert the hardware fx on a bus, so I could simply use the aux sends on the track's channel strip to send to that bus and to avoid piling up identical audio files in a Logic project, which also is clumsy
    in the workflow, because when I apply hardware fx to a lot of tracks there are doubles/triples everywhere and it gets confusing and too crowded?
    Other possibility, I've been searching like a madmen for years for an audio track's output splitter plug-in(like Spider in Reason), but I have found NONE
    in the AudioUnits realm.
    Does somebody know about such a plug-in to work in Logic?
    I still don't understand why the Apple-developers didn't think of including such a plug-in, because it could allow amazing routing possibilities, like in this case, you could send the audio track to the main output(1-2 or whatever)
    BUT also to alternate hardware outputs, so you can use a hardware reverb unit, + a hardware delay unit etc...to which the audio track is being sent , and then you could blend the results back in Logic more easily.
    Or more: you could even avoid copying tracks for sidechaining as you could use one track as is to main outputs but also connected to the sidechain input of other tracks processing, wich would make this also easier.
    Or what about outputting and grouping drum-tracks(kick-snare-hh-etc...) to multiple busses so you could have a very flexible setup for parallel processing, with many
    more sonic possibilities= drum-group going to a bus with hard-compression, while another goes to a softer compression, and a third one a distortion/beef bus with tape/tube processing, then you could all blend those tracks with faders, like on a real console and not piling up inserts on one bus, wich is more limited sonically, especially if the processing you use doesn't have a dry/wet knob.
    If any of you sees a better alternative, or method to achieve what I want in Logic, or want to discuss that topic and chime in, be my guest.
    I am not an expert of Logic, so you Logic geniuses= rise and shine!
    Thank you very much for your advice
    Best Regards
    Biggnik

    Wow - long post to say "can I use hardware boxes as inserts?" and the answer is yes, and you have been able to for a long time.
    I don't know why you're doing some odd "duplicated track" thing... weird...
    So, for inserts of regular channels, just stick Logic's I/O plug on the channel. Tell it which audio output you want it to send to, and which audio input to receive from. Patch up the appropriate ins and outs on your interface to your hardware box/patchbay/mixer/whatever and bob's your uncle.
    You can also do this on aux channels, so if you want to send a bunch of tracks to a hardware reverb, you'd put the I/O plug on the aux channel you're using in the same way as described above. Now simply use the sends on each channel you want to send to that aux (and therefore hardware reverb).
    Note you'll need to have software monitoring turned on.
    Another way is to just set the output of a channel or aux to the extra audio outputs on your interface, and bring the outputs of your processing hardware back into spare inputs and feed them into the Logic mix using input objects.
    Lots of ways to do it in Logic.
    And no duplicate recordings needed...
    I still don't understand why the Apple-developers didn't think of including such a plug-in, because it could allow amazing routing possibilities, like in this case, you could send the audio track to the main output(1-2 or whatever) BUT also to alternate hardware outputs, so you can use a hardware reverb unit, + a hardware delay unit etc...to which the audio track is being sent , and then you could blend the results back in Logic more easily.
    You can just do this already with mixer routing alone, no plugins necessary.
