Audio warning about security on computer.....

I am getting frequent loud audio warning about security on my computer.  The message plays continuously until I turn it off.  it tells me to go to (I think this is it,but I threw the paper away with the exact address) but there is no web address like that.  Is it a hoax and can I block it if so?  Is it real and do I need to do something?  Call from NOTIFICATION® - URGENT ONLINE NOTICE, duration 01:45 is what shows on the log.
Thank you, Tovarishtina

  • Can I stop Windows 7 from warning about security on every linked PDF?

I am working on a project for which I have created one central document (an index) and 120 linked documents. Each document, on every page, has links to the next alphabetical document and back to the central index. This project will be distributed on disc to people with unknown computer platforms.
I am a Mac user, and this works well on my iMac using Adobe Reader. It also works on my ancient Windows XP machine. A tech friend has looked the project over, and he says that on Windows 7 (used by more than half of computer users), every time a document links to a new document, Windows 7 throws up a warning about PDF security hazards. With a large number of documents to open, this could be tiresome.
Is there a way to stop Windows 7 from warning about security on every linked PDF?
This tech person recommends joining all the PDFs into one file (around 50 MB by his estimate), which would require relinking every current link.
Acrobat offers to do the same with its Portfolio, but I'm not fond of the graphic styles offered, and I worry that one large file might be a challenge for older machines.
    Any suggestions?

Can you get a screen shot of this error message or at least the exact wording? I suspect the error message is being displayed by Reader/Acrobat and not Windows.

  • 5230 Does not warn about Security Cameras

I bought brand new 5230 a week ago. When suggested by the sms sent by Nokia I upgraded the firmware with PC Suite, downloaded the latest available Ovi Maps via phones Ovi application and downloaded Europe maps with PCSuite (Map Loader 3.something).
    Versions are:
Ovi Maps is v 3.04 10wk17 b07 MW OpenGL LN MN
    Maps are version  0.1.24.114
Location is Finland, software is finnish.
"Varoitus turvatarkkailusta"/'Warning for security surveillance' is selected on options. When tried, no warning of what so ever is presented, no sound or visual alert, nor nothing special could be seen on display when driven past cameras that has been there for years. The situation is the same when I tested using offline or onlive navigation.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi NSince1991
Just repeated process on my 5230 by deleting 1.0.0.30.europe.cdt from "safetyspots" and dragging it onto PC desktop. Went into OVI Maps application switched on Safety spot warner and set to "Only visual" and found that it had downloaded "europe.zip.dnl", then dragged 1.0.0.30.europe.cdt back into "safetyspots" and voilå.
I usually have it set to "Offline" in OVI Maps but for this exercise I set it to "Online" with a network internet access point and "synchronized with OVI" once. Just for information 5230 v20.0.005 and OVI Maps v3.04 10wk17 b07.
Here is screenshot of a familiar address in Europe:http://i26.tinypic.com/2lnnvc.jpg
When safetyspot file is in place phone doesn't need to be online, just pick Drive > Map and safetycameras should be visible.

  • I was sent a Warning about metastream 3 plugin, is it safe to restart my computer?

During an internet session, I was sent a Warning about metastream 3 plugin. It says to restart my computer? I want to verify this is the correct mode of action.

If there are problems with updating then best is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and delete the Firefox program folder to remove any leftover files.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    *Firefox 9.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall the current version or you lose your bookmarks and other data in the profile folder.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.

Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

... Fan comes on with firefox/safari is not always responding on some sites -
An SMC reset may resolve the otherwise inexplicable fan behaviour. Be sure to read the procedure carefully and follow all the steps exactly as written, even if they seem inapplicable or trivial.
Fixing a modified Hosts file requires specific instructions. Apple Support Communities contributor and EtreCheck author etresoft recently added a User Tip discussing that concern, and how to correct it: Fixing a hacked /etc/hosts file
Back up your Mac prior to making any changes to its file system. To learn how to use Time Machine read Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac.

Anytime you change networking hardware, it is always a good idea to perform a complete power recycle of your networking components.
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
Disconnect the AirPort base station from the Internet broadband modem.
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Reconnect the AirPort base station to the Internet broadband modem. For the Extreme and Time Capsule, be sure to connect the cable to the base station's WAN (circle-of-dots) port.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes to allow it adequate time to initialize.
Power-up the AirPort base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes. Note: The AirPort's status light may continue to flash amber after it has intialized. That is because, there may be some additional configuration items necessary, like setting up wireless security, before the overall setup is completed to get a green status.
    Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, the AirPort base station will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (SSID) of Apple Network NNNNNN. Network clients, connected to the base station either by wire or wireless, should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options. Please post back your results.

  • 7 Things every Adobe AIR Developer should know about Security

7 Things every Adobe AIR Developer should know about Security
    1. Your AIR files are really just zip files.
Don't believe me? Change the .air extension to zip and unzip
it with your favorite compression program.
What does this mean for you the developer? What this means is
that if you thought AIR was a compiled protected format, alas it is
    not.
    2. All your content is easily accessible in the AIR file.
Since we now that the AIR file is really just a zip file,
unzip it and see what's inside. If you have added any content
references when you published the AIR file, voila, there it all is.
What does this mean for you the developer? Well, you content
is sitting there ripe for the picking, and so is everything else
including you Application descriptor file, images etc.
    3. Code signing your Air app does nothing as far as security
    for you.
All code signing your app does is verify to the end user that
someone published the app. I does nothing as far as encryption and
does nothing to project your content.
What does this mean for you the developer? We'll you should
still do it, because getting publisher "unknown" is worse. It also
means that joe hacker would not be able decompile your entire app
and republish it with the same certificate, unless they
somehow got a hold of that too.
    4. All your AIR SWF content is easily decompilable.
Nothing new here, it's always been this way. Type flash
decompiler into google and you'll find a variety of decompilers for
under $100 that will take your AIR content swf and expose all your
source code and content in no time.
What does this mean for you the developer? All you content,
code, urls and intellectual property is publicly available to
anyone with a decompiler, unless you do some extra work and encrypt
your swf content files, which is not currently a feature of AIR,
but can be done if you do your homework.
    5. Your SQLite databases are easy to get at.
SQLite datatbases can be accessed from AIR or any other
program on you computer that knows how to work with it. Unless you
put your database in the local encrypted datastore, or encrypt your
entire database it's pretty easy to get at, especially if you
create it with a .db extension.
What does this mean for you the developer? We'll SQLite is
very useful, but just keep in mind that your data can be viewed and
    altered if you're not careful.
    6. The local encrypted datastore is useful, but....
The local encrypted datastore is useful, but developers need
a secure way of getting information into it. Storing usernames,
passwords and urls in clear text is a bad idea, since as we
discussed, you code is easy to decompile an read. By putting info
into the local encrypted datastore, the data is encrypted and very
difficult to get at. The problem is, how do you get it into there,
without have to store any info that can be read in the air file and
without the necessity of communicating with a web server? Even if
you called a web service and pushed the returned values into the
datastore, this is not ideal, since you may have encoded the urls
to you web service into your code, or they intercept the results
    from the web service call.
What does this mean for you the developer? Use the local
datastore, and hope that we get some new ways of protecting content
and data form Adobe in the next release of AIR.
    7. There are some things missing form the current version of
AIR (1.1) that could really help ease the concerns of people trying
to develop serious applications with AIR.
Developers want more alternatives for the protection of local
content and data. Some of us might want to protect our content and
intellectual property, remember not all of us are building toys
with AIR. Other than the local encrypted datastore there are not
currently any built in options I'm aware of for encrypting other
content in the AIR file, unless you roll your own.
What does this mean for you the developer? We'll I've been
told that Adobe takes security very seriously, so I'm optimistic
that we'll see some improvements in this area soon. If security is
a concern for you as much as it is for me, let them know.

Putting "secret data" as a clear text directly in your code
is a broken concept in every environment, programing language.
Every compiled code is reversible, especially strings are really
    easy to extract.
There is no simple, straightforward way to include secret
data directly with your app. This is a complicated subject, and if
you really need to do this, you'll need to read up on it a bit.
But in most cases this can be avoided or worked around
without compromising security. One of the best ways is to provide
the user with a simple "secret key" alongside the app (best way is
the good old login/password). The user installs the app, and
provides his "secret key", that goes directly into
EncryptedLocalStore, and then you use this "secret key" to access
the "secret data" that's stored on your server. Then you can
transfer the "secret data" directly into EncryptedLocalStore.
    As for the whole thread:
Points 1-5 -> Those points do not concern AIR apps only.
If you are developing an application in any language, you should
    follow those rules, meaning:
    - Code installed on users computer is easy accessible
    - Data stored locally is easy accessible, even if it
encrypted using any symmetric-key encryption, because the
encrypting algorithm and encryption key is in your source code (you
could probably write a book on using public-key encryption so let's
just leave it for now ;)
Point 6 -> Is a valid one. All your app security should
relay on the EncryptedLocalStore. But it is your job to get the
data securely into the ELS, because there is no point to encrypt
    data that can be intercepted.

I just checked my BIOS and my current setting is set at IDE although it also mentions that the default should be AHCI. Currently I have a dual boot of Windows 7 (need it for Tax software) and Arch
So I guess, when I get the new HDD, I will first set it to AHCI and then install the OSes on it. See if NCQ helps any, and if not I will turn it back and re-install (if I have to). I am planning to have Windows only in virtualbox in the new drive.
Anyhoo, while I was in the BIOS I found two things which I had questions about :
    1) Under Onboard Devices --> Integrated NIC , my setting is currently set at "On w/PXE" and it says the default should be just "On". Would it be ok to change it back to On since its a single machine and its not booting an OS on any server. I just don't want to have to re-install anything now since I will be doing that in the new HDD.
    2) How would I know whether my BIOS would support a 64 bit OS in Virtualbox? I checked some setting under Virtualization, but they weren't very clear.
I will edit this post and let you know exactly what settings were present under the Virtualization sub-section.

  • Java 7u45 gives spurious warning about missing Permissions attribute

The security dialog in 7u45 gives a yellow warning about missing Permissions attribute.   Does anyone know how to get rid of it?
Same as the yellow box in the screenshots (#2 and #3) documented here (although none of them discuss the Permissions attribute) :
What should I do when I see a security prompt from Java?
The MANIFEST.MF file for the app definitely contains this attribute.  There's only one jar for the application, and it's signed.
Might this be another security dialog bug?  Or am I missing something?  The JNLP contains the same "all-permissions" security tag.
I also found the release notes for 7u45 mention a couple of cases where the dialog might still appear
(see last issue: Java™ SE Development Kit 7 Update 45 Release Notes)
I don't use the JNLPDownloadServlet but my own. I didn't model it on the JNLPDownloadServlet, but guess I could have partly the same issue since I use versioning.
My jar doesn't fail to download though, it's just that its displaying this warning.

    https://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp
    https://java.com/en/download/installed.jsp
I dug the jar for the applet out of my Java cache and it contains Manifest.MF with the following contents:
    Manifest-Version: 1.0
    Codebase: www.java.com java.com
    Created-By: 1.7.0_25 (Oracle Corporation)
    Permissions: all-permissions

The jar contains one Java class and a signed JNLP-INF/APPLICATION.JNLP file that looks like this:

The JNLP file downloaded from here: https://java.com/en/download/JavaDetection_applet.jnlp matches the signed JNLP file in the jar (except for name).
We are still working on getting our applications to not show the warning message but this appears to be an example of where the "you will be blocked in the future" message is not happening. We don't run our applications as applets so if anyone can find another working example that is a more traditional JNLP app, please post a link.

I have TB installed on my laptop running Windows 7 and had no problems. I am using the same settings as in my version of TB on my laptop. The version of TB is 24.4 on both machines. Of course, the version of TB was younger when I installed on the laptop.
Thanks, in advance, for any advice.
    Bill Halteman

I'm stuck too, and don't know what to do.
    I am running windows 7.
There is excellent documentation of this problem here - https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=812750
Problematically, the warning directs me t FAQ, but when I do a search what I find is that everyone is having the same problem.
Further, my existing accounts now show Connection security - None and Authentication as Password, transmitted insecurely. I suspect I am lucky that my existing accounts still work.

  • Question about security

I tested my computer for spyware at this website. http://www.auditmypc.com . The test results said that my computer is not as secure as it should be because the security test was able to detect information about my computer, and that it needed to be updated with a security patch. The test results are posted below this paragraph.

Is there a way (maybe via command terminal) to disable Macintosh computers from displaying information about the kind of operating system that I am using - web browser- IP address and so on without compromising system performance ? I am guessing that the best way to disable Un secure browsing would be to open the command terminal and use a Apple script or some type of code that would disable my IP address and everything else from being displayed on websites etc etc. I have tried using Safari’s built in private browsing feature but that method is like using an old proxy number, because when I use it, the computer crashes and lags so I am hoping that there is another alternative. Any advice about how to fix this problem would be appreciated.

Just one more thing. If you are worried about anybody getting access to your computer etc. Make sure you have a router and also turn on the MAC Firewall.
To turn on firewall protection on your computer:
Open System Preferences and click Sharing.
Click Firewall, and then click Start.
To block incoming traffic on ports used by one of the sharing services, disable that service in the Services pane.
You can't edit the firewall ports used by built-in services. They are enabled and disabled automatically when you turn the corresponding service on or off in the Services pane.
If you use iChat Bonjour, iTunes Music Sharing, or iPhoto Bonjour Sharing, make sure to allow those services in and out of your firewall. Turn on their services on the Firewall pane of Sharing preferences.
You should also block UDP traffic and enable Stealth Mode under advanced settings.
    To set advanced firewall options:
Open System Preferences and click Sharing.
Click Firewall, and then click Advanced.
In addition to the firewall services in Sharing preferences, you can set additional, advanced firewall settings to further protect your computer. The advanced firewall features include:
Blocking UDP traffic UDP (User Datagram Protocol) is a communications protocol that offers a limited amount of service when messages are exchanged between computers in a network that uses the Internet Protocol (IP). Like the Transmission Control Protocol, UDP uses the Internet Protocol to actually get a data unit (called a datagram) from one computer to another. Unlike TCP, UDP does not provide the service of dividing a message into packets (datagrams) and reassembling it at the other end. UDP is transaction oriented, and delivery and duplicate protection are not guaranteed. Blocking UDP traffic can help secure your computer.
Using firewall logging A firewall log is a record of the your computer's activity and the data traffic into and out of your computer through a firewall. Keeping a firewall log can be helpful if you are tracking where the data is coming from and where it is going.
Stealth mode When you enable stealth mode, all uninvited data traffic receives no response from your computer. Stealth mode virtually hides your computer behind your firewall, and other computers sending traffic to your computer receive no information about your computer.
However, as I mentioned before your browser info will always be out there.

  • Warning about low disk space on drive E

    Hi,
I'm running Windows 7 on a HP Pavilion Elite HPE. My main drive i s C and there is also D (Factory image) and then the HP(E: ) one which is giving the warning about low disk space. When I look at what there is in drive E there is a folder called "my name"-PC with a lot of "Backup Set" folders/files in it, and then there is a folder called WindowsImageBackup and subfolder "my name"-PC.
I know I have to clean out these folders but I ma very insecure as to what I can delete.
I'd be very thankful if you could give me some advice in this matter!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

File History in Windows 7 is an extensive image backup of your drive which will steadily increase over time and needs to be cleared and suggest that you turn the feature off.  It is not very efficient.
If you wish to delete this  Windows Image Backup file, you should disable  the automatic backup feature of Windows.
Click on Start button > Control Panel > System and Maintenance> Backup and Restore.
In the left pane, click on "Turn Off Schedule".
From there you can delete the backup files on your E drive.
I also suggest as an alternative, use Macrium Reflect Free every so often as it is more efficient and reliable.  It will make a complete image back up of your entire hard drive to an external hard drive.  Don't forget to create a rescue disk.
Go to this site and do a Custom Install:
    http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx
I personally use the Professional Edition which gives me more flexibility and features.

  • Want to move to from XP to Mac but need to know before hand about security.

    Hi!
For the past few months, I have been having some serious trouble with my system. Twice every month, my setting change and my emails passwords changed. It happens, I reinstall Windows xp home, change the passwords for administrator and user, turn off remote assistance, turn on firewall and then change my password every week which contain letters, numbers and punctuations.
But still someone is trying to sneak in. My settings still change and my passwords cracked.
I am thinking of buying the new iMac and I will be running XP or Vista on it virtually.
But before I do that I want to know what I will have to do to ensure this doesn't happens on iMac.
Should I change my user password every day, I will if I have too?
How long does it takes for a dedicated cracker to crack a say 20 letter(alphabets, numbers and punctuation) password file?
    What else should I do?
I had a system crash due to some virus and lost 45GB of data that was residing on an external HD it was connected to the system at the time when the system crashed and all was lost. I want to prevent that.
    Please help.
    Fahad

If the computer you're using now has been compromised and they keep coming back you will have to reformat your hard drive and re-install your OS, that's the only way you can be absolutely certain that the backdoor trojan they installed is removed.
Once that is done, make sure you use both firewall and anti-virus software. If you're using a router, make sure it's firewall is also on.
OS X is not susceptible to Windows virus/trojan problems but it's not 100% secure (no computer is). OS X has had some exploitable problems as well, so you would still want to use its firewall as well as anti-virus software such as ClamXav, especially if you plan on running Windows on it.
My advice to you right now is to disconnect your infected computer from the Internet, reformat its hard drive, re-install the OS and make sure you set up proper security on it as I previously described.
