AUR accounts [SOLVED]

Are the forums accounts the same as the AUR accounts? I can't login to AUR using my username+password from this forums, but if I try to register to AUR it says my email address is in use. Maybe I registered an account in the past but I can't find a 'forgot password' link or whatever.
Any cue?
Maybe tomorrow I will feel dumb because of this question...

  • Yaourt: Problems installing generated AUR packages [SOLVED]

    Hello.

    Any idea about how to fix it? I tried using both an user with sudo and root, same problem.

    Maybe I need to check where yaourt writes it. Any suggestion about what util to use for that?
    EDIT: I used "lsof" command and found the file is there, but yaourt can't locate it and deletes the directory after

  • Need some help understanding AUR please solved

    Still learning the command line here sooooo....
    I've read and reread everything recommended regarding AUR.
    Somewhere I'm overlooking or missing something.
    The AUR users guide says to:
    Users can access the AUR [community] repo by adding/uncommenting this line in their pacman.conf file:
    Include = /etc/pacman.d/community
    Well that line doesn't exist so the guide says to:
    If /etc/pacman.d/community does not exist then it should be created and contain the following:
    [community]
    Server = ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/community/os/i686/
    Evidently I might have a pacman.d/community, but when I pull it up with nano, it's a totally blank page which leads me to believe it's there but not actually created.
    I can't find anything that tells me what I need to do to make sure I've created a pacman.d/community.
    Is a blank page right or shouldn't there be some text in there with comments?
    I can and have installed a few things with yaourt, but I know that I've been lucky so far with that as I know something isn't right.
    I have to use my user password and then my root password in that order or nothing will finish installing so I've stopped using it until I have a better understanding of it.
    Man,, all I wanna do is try out doom3-phantasm,,, for now anyway.

    I know phantasm is in unsupported, I'm trying to figure out how to get unsupported added to pacman so I can get it.
    Theringmaster:
    Yaourt is installed and as I've said I've used it, but, as I also said, each time I use it just before it completes the install it asks for my password, which is fine, but I have to first enter my user password which it refuses, then my root password which it accepts.
    It flat wil not settle for me simply using my root password like it should.
    I've tried several times and this is something that I'm missing also somewhere somehow.
    To my way of thinking, it should be like pacman and accept my root password no questions asked.
    I'll also add that I've tried installing phantasm with yaourt.
    It found all the depends and compiled the complete package.
    When it came to the stage to do the actual install, it asked for a pasword.
    I've tried my user pasword followed by my root password and was kicked out.
    I've tried just my user password and was rejected.
    I've tried my root password and was rejected and when re-entered was kicked out.
    Unless things have changed with Arch and the guide is out of date, there should be a way to add unsupported to pacman.
    I'll try flokes suggestion of changing the permissions in sudo and see what happens.
    Thx guys.
    edit: How the heck does one save a change in VI?
    you do have to have sudo installed and configured (just a three step process see wiki) to use yaourt properly. to save a change in vi press :wq

  • Doesn't [community] mean AUR? [SOLVED]

    Just installed Arch yesterday, coming from Ubuntu 10.4.  I'm mostly liking it.
    But I'm confused about why I can't install the packages I had before.
    I thought that enabling [community] in the pacman.conf file meant I could get all those user packages.
    But pacman does not seem to see them.
    One example of many: an ftpd server.
    I search AUR and find these:
    https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/?O=0 … &SB=n&SO=a
    That's 17 results, including the one I'm looking for, proftpd
    And yet pacman only sees these:
    # pacman -Ss ftpd
    extra/bftpd 4.0-1
        Small, easy-to-configure FTP server
    community/sshguard 1.5-13
        Brute force detector for SSH, Exim, VSFTPD and more. Blocks by ip with iptables
    community/vsftpd 3.0.2-2
        Very Secure FTP daemon
    So how do I ge to the ones in AUR?

    Two approaches to using AUR packages:

    1c) cd to the new directory and run makepkg, potentially with the -s and/or -i flags ... or in some cases perhaps the -e and -f, or many others
    1d) (optional depending on choice in last step) run pacman -U <newly-create-pkg.tar.gz>
    1e) if anything happened to go wrong, you can pinpoint exactly where it went wrong, and either fix it, or have the information needed to get quick help from the forums
    SUM of option 1) learn about your system and it's package management and have control of what is happening.
    Also note each step has many choices.  This may seem intimidating at first (but probably not if you came from gentoo) - but each choice is well documented, so you can easily learn what they all do.
    Thanks again Trilby.
    I'm the kind of newbie that would start with approach 1.
    I like the idea of knowing what's going on (I'm a software engineer)
    (As you say, anyone choosing approach 2 probably shouldn't be here)
    I assume from 1a and 1b that what I download is source.
    I assume from 1c that makepkg does ./configure && make all, and then tars to the .tar.gz that pacman is expecting
    and from 1d that pacman -U simply installs from the local package instead of what it finds in the repository.
    That all seems reasonable to me
    When I used Gentoo (2004-2005) I was frustrated with many packages which did not compile, sometimes I would delve into the errors and try to fix them.
    As long as things eventually install without a big problem then I'll be ok with it.
    I'll just miss the convenience of pacman -Syu to update everything I have installed, mostly because I won't know that a new [AUR] version is available unless I go and search for it.
    I knew going into this that Arch wasn't going to be easy, but I still think it's worth it.

    My advice? Don't use yaourt. Download the tarball from the AUR page and modify the PKGBUILD accordingly.

  • [SOLVED] Seeking for advice at aur package managment.

    Hello again.
    I've been using arch for a little time but this far I like it more eveyday.
    I've installed virtualbox PUEL from the AUR with makepkg and pacman -U. It's working fine.
    But I want to install more software from the AUR. Actually, maybe I'll be installing lots of software from the AUR. My question is, since these software is installed "manualy", is there an easy way of keeping it up to date?
    I've tried yaourt but I really don't like it very much. (Im not using sudo [maybe later] and it asked my root password 3 or 4 times and finally wasn't able to install anything; pacman works fine. Yaourt has no good documentation) I even created an AUR account to see if there was some way of getting notifications of updated packages to upgrade them manually. But this far, I haven't found any satistactory solution.
    Edit: Also, I've seen that at least for virtualbox and yaourt, there are repos that can be added to pacman. Can I add a repo for each piece of software chosen from the AUR? Are there repos only for some "very used" software?
    Thanks for your advice.

    Actually, I think that with yaourt you could do the best update for all AUR-installed packages. yaourt -Syyu --aur --devel for example.

    Except for [community] of course
    I can think of two unofficial repos:
    repo.archlinux.fr
    [archlinuxfr]
    Server = http://repo.archlinux.fr/i686
    or
    [archlinuxfr]
    Server = http://repo.archlinux.fr/x86_64
    and adslgr32/64
    amd64
    [adslgr64]
    Server = http://adslgr64.tiven.org/archlinux/x86_64
    and the
    i686 one
    [adslgr32]

  • Migrating user account on same computer?

    I thought I'd be able to find the answer to this just by searching the forum, but everything related to what I wish to do seems to be talked about in terms of one computer to another. However I wish to migrate from one account on my computer to a fresh one on the same computer, which seems like it would be simple, but I've been unable to figure it out on my own.
    The background is this: my G5 being four years old, my main user account that I have been using all this time has become a bit "sluggish." I created a new account and there is a marked difference between their responsiveness, both system-wide and on-line, so instead of troubleshooting what is bogging down the old account I thought I would just migrate over to the new one. Also, I was running the old account as admin, which I understand is not advisable, so I figured I would keep the old account for admin purposes while performing my day-to-day activities in the new account.
    I was surprised to find that there is no way for me to easily access all my files on my old account from my new account (read and write) simply by changing a global permission. This would have been the "ideal" way for me to make this adjustment, as it really wouldn't matter which of these two accounts I logged in from, everything would be the same. Am I missing something here?
    Barring a solution to that, I don't necessarily mind "starting fresh" and basically treating the accounts as separate computers. Address Book and iCal should be easy enough to export from the old account and import into the new account. Mail on my old account has grown huge (4GB) so I was planning to archive anyway with 3rd party software and start from scratch. The files I'm currently working on I will copy over, and then I guess anything prior that I need to refer to in the future I will just have to log in to the old account and copy over piecemeal. (Is there another way, other than simply copying 100% of my files from the get-go?)
    If I'm understanding all of the above correctly, my only concerns are:
    1) Applications. When I launch 3rd party apps that require registration from the new account, some seem to be having some issues. Would copying the "Application Support" folder from my old account solve this, or will I only be able to use these apps from one account on my computer at a time?
    2) iTunes, specifically as regards my iPhone. Will I need to log into my old account each time I wish to sync with my iPhone? Is there any way that by instead syncing with the new account that I can mess things up and cause my phone or my apps to be de-authorized?
    Many thanks in advance for any guidance you can give here. I hope I am not going about all this backwards and should rather just be trying to "clean up" the old account rather than make a new one to "mimic" it?
    Thank you,
    Josh

    I recommend making a full backup of your system before trying this.
    read the above post of mine for finding out the short user name of your second account and group name of your first account.
    Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Net Info Manager
    You can use the net info manager to add a user to the group. although I think the single command is easier to use. You can copy the first portion into terminal and type in the variable and information.
    Here is the Net Info Manager way:
    in the middle column click on groups. this will bring out the list of groups. Scroll down to your group from your first userid and click on at.
    Click on the lot on the lower left-hand corner of the screen. Fill in your administrator password.
    Click on the down triangle for the list of groups.
    Click on edit: add
    fill in your group name.
    Mac OS X uses Unix permissions.
    You will need to use BatChmod to change the permissions. Mac OS X doesn't let you change the permission to let others look in directories -- this is called the execution permission. The picture directory doesn't let others look at its files. You need to change this. You need to set the read-only and the execution permissions. And change it on group and other/everyone.
    !http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3265/3180927160_fabd018171.jpg?v=0!
    Sometimes things are not updated as you would expect. I noticed that the Red minus bar on a folder doesn't go way when I changed the permissions. I had to log off the user. You may want to be boot after changing the execution permission. It shouldn't be necessary.

    You can use the get info command to find out file permissions and make the changes.
    Click on the file of interest. Press command i (⌘-i)
    Each file has an owning user and a group of users that are allowed to access the file. Also, there is a another access for all users. The owning user is the UID field. The group of users is the GID.
    You could add yourself to your first Group. This would allow you to look at any file your wife owns.
    The NetInfo Manager application allows you to make this change.
    Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> NetInfo Manager
    In the middle column is the function. Pick users in the middle column then select the user of interest in the right column. Find out what group you and your wife are in.
    Now go back to the middle column and pick the Group. Now pick your wife's group. Now add your group to your wife's group. To add an item to a group, you need to look up and find the pulldown called directory > insert value.

  • Bridge CC performance issue - SOLVED

    I am running Photoshop CC, which includes Bridge, on a new Windows 8.1 computer. Everything, except Bridge, is lightening fast
    Bridge CC would take up to 5 seconds to respond to a click on a menu item and 10 seconds to respond to a right mouse click on a thumbnail. I contacted Adobe 4 times and had 4 different answers from them: none of which worked.
    So, come on Adobe. It is nothing to do with the size of the cache, the  ABDATA file, the other links regarding Bridge freezing you sent me. Yes,  a new user account solves the problem as well, but who wants to run  Photoshop as a different user?
    Running Bridge CC in Vista compatibility mode completely solved the problem. It is now as fast as everything else on my machine.

    Hi,
    not sure if this was addressed because without a bug number its hard to track what has changed since then. We have customers deploying ADF JClient with remote BC and they have reasonable performance. Steve Muench wrote a whitepaper about JClient performance and best practices which is available on OTN.

  • Mobile accounts reset to normal network accounts ?

    Hello
    I've switched my network users back from mobile accounts to normal network accounts after experimenting for awhile. I have deselected the mobile account preferences for all my machines in WGM and deleted all the local home folders created by synching my network accounts on the local machines in Volume/Users. There's obviously more things I need to do, as:
    Some desktop machines allow users to login normally with their network account and mount the network home at login (shortcut in dock via MCX) as before mobile synching. This seems to be only for machines the user did not use when there were mobile account prefs. set .
    Other machines create a new local home for the user but also leave a question mark in the dock for their "User's Network Home Folder"; which mounts with full access when clicking the question mark.
    Lastly, some machines are not mounting the network home at all, but authorizing the user with their LDAP account and making a new local home instead.
    Is this a cache, preferences or corrupt config. issue or something else?
    thanks
    Xserve G5, G4s, eMacs, iMac G5s, 10.4.5 all

    Deleting the mobile user account records in System Preferences>Accounts solved it.

  • [SOLVED] Quarkcoin-qt, PKGBUILD created

    Hi,
    I have just created the PKGBUILD, .install, and .desktop files for Quarkcoin-qt. I modified the PKGBUILD for Litecoin and adapted it for Quark.
    It worked for me.
    If someone with the permissions want to upload it to the AUR, Here is the code:
    PKGBUILD:
    pkgname='quarkcoin-qt'
    pkgver=0.8.3
    pkgrel=2
    arch=('x86_64')
    url="http://www.qrk.cc/"
    makedepends=('boost' 'automoc4' 'qrencode' 'miniupnpc')
    license=('MIT')
    pkgdesc="Peer-to-peer network based digital currency (QT)"
    depends=(boost-libs qt4 miniupnpc qrencode)
    conflicts=(quarkcoin)
    install=quarkcoin-qt.install

    build() {
    cd "$srcdir/quark-master"
    # and make qt gui

    All you have to do is make an AUR account and you can upload it.
    BUT please don't in it's current form. You're pulling a tarball of git master, so the pkgname should be suffixed with -git. Plus the checksum will change constantly, so you would need to change that to SKIP and have no checking at all. Really, you need to either do a git clone which does it's own checksumming (see VCS PKGBUILD Guidelines in the Wiki) or pull a tarball of a specific tag. If you need help with a pkgver function that makes sense, let us know.

  • Resetting admin account?

    Hi there,
    I have some trouble updating iTunes from the admin account I always use; it gets stuck with a spinning wheel while running iTunes preflight script. Creating a second, "virgin" admin account solves the problem but I'd rather stick with the old account name, ID and home directory. Other applications install well, by the way. Obviously, not installing correctly is connected with something wrong in my present admin account. Am I right with this? Is there any kind of account resetting procedure for that purpose?
    Thanks,
    Joe.

    From your description there may be some bad preference files or third-party software conflicts or simply a need for some maintenance. The following may prove helpful.
    Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
    Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
    If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
    For disk repairs use Disk Utility. For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.0 is now Intel Mac compatible. TechTool Pro provides additional repair options including file repair and recovery, system diagnostics, and disk defragmentation. TechTool Pro 4.6.1 is Leopard compatible; Drive Genius is similar to TechTool Pro in terms of the various repair services provided. The current version, 1.5.1, is Intel Mac compatible.
    OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.
    OS X automatically defrags files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems.
    I would also recommend downloading the shareware utility TinkerTool System that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old logfiles and archives, clearing caches, etc.
    For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the commandline. Note that presently AppleJack is not compatible with Leopard.
    When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
    Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    1. Retrospect Desktop (Commercial - not yet universal binary)
    2. Synchronize! Pro X (Commercial)
    3. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
    4. Deja Vu (Shareware)
    5. PsynchX 2.1.1 and RsyncX 2.1 (Freeware)
    6. Carbon Copy Cloner (Freeware - 3.0 is a Universal Binary)
    7. SuperDuper! (Commercial)
    8. Data Backup (Commercial)
    The following utilities can also be used for backup, but cannot create bootable clones:
    1. Backup (requires a .Mac account with Apple both to get the software and to use it.)
    2. Toast
    3. Impression
    4. arRSync
    Apple's Backup is a full backup tool capable of also backing up across multiple media such as CD/DVD. However, it cannot create bootable backups. It is primarily an "archiving" utility as are the other two.
    Impression and Toast are disk image based backups, only. Particularly useful if you need to backup to CD/DVD across multiple media.
