can i use my iphone 3 in new zealand with a nz sim card in it without it needing to be unlocked?

That depends... its is ALREADY unlocked? If so, then you should be fine.  If the phone is carrier locked, then no, obviously you can't use it with a SIM from another carrier without getting it unlocked first.

  • How can I best use my iPhone 3Gs in New Zealand?

How can I best use an iPhone while in New Zealand?

So - what I meant was... I am in the US and traveling to New Zealand and wondering if I can use my iPhone 3Gs without spending lots of money with AT&T?  What experiences have others had?

  • Using USA iPhone 4s in New Zealand

    1)  I know from reading a travel book the standard US iPhone will not just work in New Zealand.  We recently upgraded iPhone to 5s  and have a old 4s that will be unlocked from ATT, no current service, we don't mind taking it on a trip, would also be handy as a camera for my wife.  There's no point in our taking our new 5S to New Zealand but I don't know much about iPhones.  Is it possible to buy a chip to make the 4s usable in New Zealand?  We don't plan on calling home or anything, but a phone can be handy for general use in travel.  Is it worth it or is there some better alternative for phone service?  I know in the US it is becoming very difficult to find a payphone anywhere, and here for a 3 week trip I would just recommend somebody buy a $30 no-contract phone with 60 minute/90 day service.
    2) The 4s currently runs iOS6-something.  The phone is an 8GB model so I am highly reluctant to upgrade it to iOS8 because this will only leave 3GB for 3 weeks of photos for her.  Just leave it?

If you get the device unlocked by AT&T, you should be able to use a local SIM in the device. The same would be so for the 5s, just that it would not support  the LTE bands in New Zealand. Unfortunately, to complete the unlock on the device requires a restore as new in iTunes, which will load iOS 8.1.2. Your call on that one.

  • Will an American bought iPhone 4s work just as a New Zealand bought iPhone 4s in New Zealand?

    Hi guys,
so I'm planning to buy an iPhone 4s from http://store.apple.com/us and have it shipped to a relative... then the relative will ship it to me in New Zealand.
my question is regarding the plans or contracts, I've been researching and seen quite a few threads about; "if the iPhone 4 is bought online it might be "unlocked" but it must have a contract" is this true? (keep in mind all posts or threads i have read through during my research are dated at about mid 2011, around July, so iPhone 4s wasn't out.. i cant find any recent news on this)also is a plan and a contract the same thing??
I have asked the relative to buy it and she said "i think all phones over here (USA) need to have a plan".... http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_iphone/family/iphone/iphone4s clearly states "Or get iPhone unlocked and contract-free" ... i just wanted to make sure before i make the purchase. if i buy the iphone 4s via the unlocked and contract-free route, is that without a data plan?
    ~ TL;DR ~
is the unlocked iPhone 4s bought directly online at the american apple site "http://store.apple.com/us" definitely contract/plan free and unlocked?
Are a "plan" and a "contract" the same thing?
when i order from america does it have to come with a data plan?

Apple bends over backwards to honor its warranty world-wide, but does reserve the right to refer you to the nation of purchase for warranty service. This is usually done on a product not sold in the nation were you are seeking service. I have seen no one report here in the ASC warranty issues with Apple GMS devices, because they are sold by Apple world-wide. I have seen folks living outside the US report that they were told that warranty coverage for CDMA devices is only available in the US, which is currently the country were those devices are sold and where Apple's supply chain is set up to meet warranty coverage.
However, there are other things to take into consideration when you buy a US iPhone. The price of the iPhone on the Apple US webpage does not include sales tax. That is added to the total at the finalization of the sale. My unlocked iPhone 4S for US$650.00 came to US$705.00 with the sales tax. The iPhones sold in NZ have already passed through customs and have prices adjusted for the import tariffs assessed buy your government. Any iPhone shipped to you from the US is also subject to customs declaration and payment of the same tariffs.

  • When is the Iphone coming to New Zealand/Australia??

I can't wait! I really really want one!!
Does anyone know when they are coming to NZ or Australia??
    Thanks!

Check the apple website for New Zealand or Australia. All official news on its release in those countries would come from Apple directly. Nobody here would know.

Can I purchase an iPhone in the US to bring back to New Zealand to use (full time - ie 'home')?
No. The US iPhone is carrier locked to ATT.
I see that there is a huge saving to be made monetary wise, and I see that the iPhones are 'locked' to each individual country (it seems).
Each phone is carrier locked to a particular carrier in each country it is legitimately available in.
But, I also see else-where on-line an iPhone retailer (in New Zealand) advertising iPhones for sale ("NZ$1100 16Gb, unlocked, NZ settings, 1.1.4 software") as well as an additional 'option' of "Unlock only, NZ$69 - unlock existing iPhone, NZ settings, 1.1.4 software".
These are hacked phones. They have no warranty and you cannot update them when Apple puts out updates. You will also get no support on these forums for a hacked phone.
So, it seems to me that I CAN purchase in the US and bring home to New Zealand to be unlocked and for use here?
You can but it would be stupid to do so. You're better off waiting for the phone to become legitimately available in your country.

  • Hi. Im currently living in New Zealand. Just bought an iphone 5s yesterday from a shop called Parallel Brand Imports in Auckland. When i came home i called apple to check whether my phone is locked or not and they said that its locked to US Verizon even t

When i came home i called apple to check whether my phone is locked or not and they said that its locked to US Verizon even though when i checked on iphoneimei it said sim status unknown. I put my 2degrees (NZ carrier) in today and it worked fine. I got into the settings and turned off the automatically part of carrier and there were 3 options for me to choose 2degrees vodafone and telecom. Because of that, im quite confused abt whether my phone is locked or not since im from vietnam so i want to know if i can use vietnamese sim card when i go home. Thanks for your help@verizon

Hi tranvietanh - I appreciate you contacting us all the way from New Zealand! I can confirm that the iPhone 5s and all of our other 4G LTE device are not SIM locked. As the carrier in New Zealand may not support the exact same frequencies and cellular bands that we use on our network, we are unable to support the device if using a 3rd party SIM.
    Thank you,

  • How do I get an adapter for a laptop and iPhone to use them in New Zealand and Australia?

How do I gwet an adapter for a laptop and Iphone to use in New Zealand and Australia?

For the iPhone the regular power adapter will work worldwide. All you need is a plug aapter. 99% of all laptop power packs are also universal. (All Apple laptops certainly are). Look at the label. If it says 120-240 volts, 50/60 Hz it will work anywhere in the world. Again, all you need is a converter for the prongs on the plug.

  • ¿What's the best iPhone 6 model to use in USA, Mexico and New Zealand? I am guessing the Model A1524

I'm a traveler who uses the phone in different countries with a local SIM card (with an unlocked iPhone).  I mainly need to use the phone in USA, Mexico and New Zealand.  Occasionally in Europe but mostly on those 3 countries.   I can see the iPhone 6 plus comes in different models each with different frequencies to match specific cellphone companies.
For what I can see, the model A1524 is the one with most frequencies available which makes me think it may match the frequencies of cellphone companies in more countries, but not sure.
    Please some advice.

Depends  on when you can get an unlocked version but your surmise I suspect is correct if you want to use 4G /LTE
Remember the warranty is not international so buy where you are based for maximum coverage

  • IPhone 4S New Zealand - will it work ok?

Hi there.  Does anyone know whether the iPhone 4S will work ok in New Zealand?  I am currently traveling and want to purchase an unlocked version in the US in a couple of weeks.  Unfortunately the 4S is not available to buy in NZ yet.  Thank you.

Should work, yes, especially if it's unlocked. When you take it to NZ, pop in a SIM card and it should work.

  • HT5429 I have recently returned from a holiday in New Zealand and transited for 6 hours in China. Since returning to the UK my maps app on Iphone 5 will not show my surroundings in hybrid or satellite. How can i get this back?

I have recently returned from a holiday in New Zealand and transited for 6 hours in China. Since returning to the UK my maps app on Iphone 5 will not show my surroundings in hybrid or satellite. I have also noticed that the data from section that usually displays data from TOM TOM and others now just says others. Has anyone encountered this before or know how to get the Satellite function on maps back?

Your phone is "stuck" in the Chinese version of maps. This also happened to me once I got back from China recently. I believe I solved the problem by logging out of iCloud and reloging in.
BTW the App Store app was also stuck in China. It only displayed Chinese characters and I had to log out and relogin.
    Hope this helps.

  • If I buy an iphone from the hong kong site to use in new zealand, will it come unlocked and can i use it in new zealand on a nz service provider?

If I buy an iphone from the hong kong site to use in new zealand, will it come unlocked and can i use it in new zealand on a nz service provider?

If you purchase an unlocked iPhone it will work on any supported gsm network.
Just FYI, apple will not ship outside the country in which the device is purchased. A device purchased in the Hong Kong website must have a shipping and billing address in Hong Kong.
Also, warranty and support are only valid in the country of origin.
