Authenticating UPK Knowledge Center users in a different domain (hosted env

Our users are in-house MSAD users, while Knowledge Center is hosted by an external provider. The techies are a bit flummoxed and try to tell us our software should accomplish this while we think there ought to be a back-end solution. We have to get the domains talking to each other somehow but they would be communicating across the Internet so all sorts of security considerations are surely involved. Server/network/domain configuration? Third-party software? Has anyone come across this situation? What's the best way to get Knowledge Center to recognise and authenticate MSAD users on Domain X while Knowledge Center itself sits on Domain Y?
Thanks

    Hello,
UPK supports Windows Authentication. You can read more about this functionality in the online documentation. Additional information can be found in the announcement at the top of this forum: https://forums.oracle.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=1175

  • Mapping users coming from different domain in AD

    HI,
We have configured vintela SSO which is working. Now we are trying  to add another domain but it has been unsuccessful.
We have imported the users coming from other domain in CMC->AD, and UseFDQNDirectoryForServers parameter in registry.
The issue is our complex krb5.ini errors as "cannot find kdc for realm" for the user account coming from the other domain. The existing domain kinit is successful.
Please help in resolving this issue!!! We need to have users coming from different domain to use vintela SSO.
    Thank you.

well you're mixing things up a bit.
The usefqdnfordirectoryservers is used to map in groups. If the groups show up as well as the users that piece should be complete.
the krb5.ini is for logging in users manually, it must conatin the KDC for every domain that may contain users that need to log into BO. It also must have a KDC or capath entry to define all the parent domains as well (even if they do not have members that need to login. This is how the krb5 is used to verify transitive trusts. Then all users that are not in the default domain must logon as username@ DNSDOMAIN.COM where the DNS domain is entered in all caps aqnd represents the FQDN of theidomain the users bewlong to. Now if not logging in manually this should be a big problem.
So for SSO (vintela anyway) this process is automatic, although you may want to configure vintela with site information so it doesn't randomly use all your DC's Site can be set following the steps at the end of business objects note 1261835 (complete and vintela only editions).
In order for vintela to work properly the value entered in CMC > Authentication > Windows AD > service principal name must = an SPN thet was created on the account that is running the SIA/CMS

  • Knowledge Center User Import Utility Password Issue

    Hello,
I have imported some users using an Text File but the users are having trouble logging into their accounts in the Knowledge Center.
"Login Invalid. Please verify your Username and Password."
I have already checked the user properties, and it's okay.
The Text file looks like this:
    USERNAME
    PASSWORD
    FIRSTNAME
    LASTNAME
    MINIT
    EMAIL
    NTINTEGRATED
    USERGROUP
    upkuser
    user01
    Name
    Lastname
    L
    group01
If I change the password in the user properties, the users can access Knowledge Center.
Do I need to change the password for every imported user?
    Many thanks.

    Hello Sumeet,
You are right in saying 'The issue happens when importing from a text file.  The User Import Utlity makes all passwords lower case.'
Oracle accepted this as a bug and provided me with patch Oracle Knowledge Base with ID 18328709. and the issue is resolved.

  • Authenticate Users from a different domain

    Hello,
    I have three domains; Domain A, Domain B & Domain C
Domain A does not trust Domain B
    Domain C trusts both A and B
    Users login to Domain A
SharePoint 2013 Enterprise lives in Domain C
Users wanting to access SharePoint must authenticate to SharePoint with their Domin B accounts.
    Crazy... I know
I have setup people picker to work with Domain B, Thank you Trevor (
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/sharepoint/en-US/9f805e2d-1b39-4e1d-b5ae-c5d7b83ca690/authenticate-users-from-a-trusted-domain?forum=sharepointadminprevious)
My next issue is that I am now testing the initial login into the SharePoint 2013 server from a standard user (who logs into Domain A in the beginning of the day)
I have added myself (Bob) to the owners group in root site collection.  owner = Domain_B\Bob
When I browse to my new site using IE 9 I'm presented with a not so helpful page that says, "Sorry, this site hasn't been shared with you."  Thats it.. no chance to login as a different person.  Obviously SharePoint sees me as Domain_A\Bob
and is letting me know that I have no access.
What I would like to happen is for SharePoint to prompt me with the standard claims NTLM login screen so that I may login to SharePoint with my Domain_B\Bob account.  Is there a way to set this up without forms authentication?
Oddly enough, using Firefox I am prompted for login credentials, but typing in Domain_B\Bob does not work.  If I do enter the farm service account setup in Domain_C, I am able to enter SharePoint with my farm service account credentials.
    Thanks for your help,
    -Bob

The output of the stsadm -o getproperty -pn peoplepicker-searchadforests -urlhttp://sharePoint-dev.mydomain.com was successfully completed.
capturing the LOG files as I'm trying to log in using by Domain B account I see the following: (listed below)
    ------------Event viewer:------------------------
Failure Reason: The User has not been granted the requested logon type at this machine.
      > This leads me to believe that I need to add DomainB\domain users to the "access this computer from the network" policy
    What do you think?
    Thanks,
    -Bob

  • Ssrs security access for users on a different domain

    Hi
We are using ssrs 2008 r2 and have added a new domain to our network as we are working with another company.
Our original domain was say "DomainA" which can access all our reports, how do we give access to the new domain "DomainB" access to our reports?
We are unable to add DomainB users to our AD security groups so I have created a windows groups called SSRS_DomainB_Users and given them access to our parent folder and also added them into site settings as a system user.
What is the best way to deal with this?
Users in DomainB will eventually be added to DomainA and DomainB will then be deleted.
One of the users I am testing with gets an error message :
User 'Domain name/user' does not have the required permissions. Verify that sufficient permissions have been granted and Windows User Account Control (UAC) restrictions have been addressed.
    Thanks

    Hi Nasa1999,
According to your description, you want your reports can be accessed by user from different domain. Right?
In this scenario, we should do Internet Deployment for your reports so that users from different domain can access the reports. Please the articles below:

  • Authentication needed after doing trust between two different domains.

    Hi There,
I have a problem when i did the trust relationship between two different domains in two different forests ,,in the trust relationship steps all working two ways trust, with external trust, stub zone created on both domains and they are validated in both sides
,,my problem is with the objects it can't be retrieved from side and it can be from the other side . For instance :
NY domain can get the users and computers of 2012DC1
but 2012DC1 can't get the users and computers of NY
Date and time are the same,i am always getting this error
The session setup from computer '2012DC1' failed because the security database does not contain a trust account 'test.com.' referenced by the specified computer.
    USER ACTION
If this is the first occurrence of this event for the specified computer and account, this may be a transient issue that doesn't require any action at this time.  If this is a Read-Only Domain Controller and 'test.com.' is a legitimate machine account
for the computer '2012DC1' then '2012DC1' should be marked cacheable for this location if appropriate or otherwise ensure connectivity to a domain controller  capable of servicing the request (for example a writable domain controller).  Otherwise,
the following steps may be taken to resolve this problem:
If 'test.com.' is a legitimate machine account for the computer '2012DC1', then '2012DC1' should be rejoined to the domain.
If 'test.com.' is a legitimate interdomain trust account, then the trust should be recreated.
Otherwise, assuming that 'test.com.' is not a legitimate account, the following action should be taken on '2012DC1':
If '2012DC1' is a Domain Controller, then the trust associated with 'test.com.' should be deleted.
If '2012DC1' is not a Domain Controller, it should be disjoined from the domain.
Can you please help me in this error.
    Thank You in advance.

    Hello,
"The session setup from computer '2012DC1' failed because the security database does not contain a trust account 'test.com.' referenced by the specified computer. "
This belongs to the machine 2012Dc1 in test.com and not to the other domain from your trust. Seems for me that you mix the trust with the problems of the machine 2012DC1 in test.com.
In this error message 2012DC1 has lost the trust to its OWN domain and therefore you have to find the reason. How exactly was this machine installed?
Or was there a restore on that machine from not supported type of backup like image/clone/snapshot?

  • How to migrate AD users with two different Domain.

    Hi
I want to test in LAB.I have installed win 2008 server on Comp1 and domain name xyz.com & IP 192.168.1.1.and i have installed win 2008 on comp2 and domain name abc.com.ip is 192.168.1.100,and i have created trust relationship between.
Now i want to migrate Ad uesr Account from xyz.com to abc.ocm.
    How will we do???
    Pls help...
    Thanks
    Anil

    Hi Anil,
After configuring trust, you can use ADMT to migrate users, computers etc between domains.
To export the password of AD User Accounts from xyz.com to abc.ocm, you need to install Password Export Server(PES) on the source domain (xyz.com).
Checkou the below link on ADMT and PES installation,

  • Users from a different domain cannot login

    Hello Everyone,
We have a sharepoint 2010 in domain A. Users are in domain A and domain B and there is a bi-directional trust between the two domains (belonging to 2 different forests).
Users in domain A have no problem accessing the SharePoint.
Users in domain B keep having IE prompting them for credentials and after 3 attempts lead them to a blank page.
The people picker tool can easily find users in domain B and then assign them permissions, but there seems to be an issue when authentication occurs.
So far there is no DNS or network issue has the site name is well resolved and a nslookup of the site returns the good information (right IP address).
Thank you for your help ! :)

Can you confirm if you're using Constrained or Unconstrained delegation?
FYI new cross-forest functionality was added with Server 2012, but all of your DCs must be running 2012 or higher:

  • Grant permissions to user accounts from different domains

Running a PowerShell script from hosts in Domain_A, I need to grant rights to user objects located in Domain_B with a one way trust in place.  Going through the process manually, I will get prompted for credentials that can query Domain_B.
How would I go about automating the authentication in PowerShell? The actual commands that run need to be executed by a privileged account in Domain_A; it's only the querying of objects in Domain_B that requires a valid Domain_B credential.

Are you doing a domain migration?
Are you leveraging the Get-ACL / Set-ACL CMDlets?
What I would do is create a script that uses get-acl and set-acl CMDlets...
I would then launch that using:
    $secpasswd = ConvertTo-SecureString "PlainTextPassword" -AsPlainText -Force
    $mycreds = New-Object System.Management.Automation.PSCredential ("username", $secpasswd)
    start-process "powershell" -ArgumentList "-file c:\path_to_Script.ps1" -Credential $mycreds
There are a ton of ways to do this, but I figure I'd give one of many ways to roll with it.

  • Knowledge Center Login - Users add themselves

    Hi,
I have UPK Standard edition s/w, version 11.0. In the document "Knowledge Center: User and Content Management" (part E23917-01) it states that "users can add themselves during login to the Knowledge Center". I cannot see anywhere that I can this up.
Perhaps my installation is not compatible and I would like to know what is lacking to be able to do this please. (A thought: Is it to do with Windows or Standard user authentication?)
    Can anyone advise please?

    Hello Sumeet,
You are right in saying 'The issue happens when importing from a text file.  The User Import Utlity makes all passwords lower case.'
Oracle accepted this as a bug and provided me with patch Oracle Knowledge Base with ID 18328709. and the issue is resolved.

  • Cookies Must Be Enabled in Browser for Knowledge Center - UPK 11.0

    Hello,
I am receiving a message when attempting to login to Knowledge Center (UPK v11.0). The message states "Cookies must be enabled in Browser to access Knowledge Center". I had not received this message anytime previously and no new IE updates have been made to my machine. I proceeded to visit and adjust the IE settings appropriately (i.e. Set trusted site, enable cookies for the site, set proper security levels, etc.), however the message still continued to display upon login attempt. I even opened up a new IE window to see if the message still displays, and it did.
Note: this message does not prohibit login (I click Ok on the message pop-up, it closes, and does not prompt again; allowing login just fine).
Is this something that anyone else has experienced or is there any recommendations to correct this?
    Thanks.
    Edited by: 921229 on Mar 16, 2012 7:56 AM

We are experiencing it too. We have UPK Pro 11.0 and it looks like this happens for new users the first (or second time) they attempt to login. After they delete their cookie for the Knowledge Center server it appears to go away. I have not been able to figure out the cause of this issue yet.

  • Knowledge Center unaccessible after installation completed

    Hello.
I am installing UPK 11.1 ESP 2 version of Knowledge Center in Win2008R2 and we are using SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2.
Note: We are using Windows Authentication
Every time after complete with installation, i am unable to access the KCenter site. Below is the error i am getting.
" The current user does not exist in Knowledge Center and can not be added. Please see your Knowledge Center system administrator. "
Appreciate any advise / thought - i am looking around if anyone also experiencing the same issue in similar environment. Thanks
    Kind Regards,
    Josh

    Hi Alexandre
Yes the URL is directing to the /KCenter virtual directory. The problem is not the login page - the problem is that i dont even get that far.
Once the url is entered the page starts to load and ends up with no results. the reply is "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"
I've eliminitad the browser to be a problem after allwoing all cockies and reapting this with FF (cockies enabled as well)
I've been repeating the installation for several times now, both on Win2K8 and Win2K3 and the same result.
As if the application will not run :-(
I tried to verify if the installation is currepted but i also used the same copy to install UPK Sever, Client and Single Seat and nothing (including in the KC instllation) had alerted a failure.
All the other three were installed and worked with no issues.... only the KC will not load :-(

  • Error when Publishing to Knowledge Center

I have installed UPK and Knowledge Center version 12.1.0. I receive an error when trying to publish to the Knowledge Center. The activity log reads "Communication with a Knowledge Center server failed. Error:An unsecured or incorrectly secured fault was received from the other party. See the inner FaultException for the fault code and detail."
Here are some details of the situation:
I am able to view the knowledge center site with no issues. After some research I saw that a time difference between the server and client can be an issue. However my server and client are on the same machine. The only time I see this error is when I am trying to publish to the knowledge center. I installed the client on another machine and tried it again but received the same error.
I have attached the activity log as reference.
    Any suggestions?

    It could be multiple causes.
    Solution 1:
The server timezone and client timezone are the same, but there is 5 minutes difference in the system clock.
Confirm that the client workstation has the correct system date and time including the timezone for daylight savings setting.
This error has been seen when the server and clients are not synchronized within 5 minutes.
Change the time on the workstation to synchronize with the server time.
    Solution 2:
Confirm that the database connection string (source, user and password) have not changed or expired. To decrypt the file, please follow steps in KM solution:
Oracle Support Document 1614824.1 (UPK Client: An unsecured or incorrectly secured fault was received from the other party. See the inner FaultException for the fault code and detail.” ) can be found at:
    https://support.oracle.com/epmos/faces/DocumentDisplay?id=1614824.1
    I. Confirm that the connection string is valid after decryption
II. Modify web.config if password has changed or expired
    III. Save web.config
IV. Re-encrypt the web.config as Administrator using re-encrypt command
