Authentication needed on SMTP server

Hi,
We are using Sun ONE Messaging Server 5.2 and Sun ONE Directory Server 5.1sp2. We want to go for authentication on SMTP server. To elaborate on this, when the customer sends mail using our smtp, he has to be authenticated at server level before his mail passes thru the channel.
Please shed some light on how to configure this?
TIA
Regards,
Dharani

First, you do truly need to evaluate exactly what connections need authenticated smtp. If you require all connections, then you will eliminate the ability to receive mail from the internet, at large.
If what you want to do is require your internal users to authenticate, then adding
mustsasl instead of maysasl in your tcp_intranet channel configuration may help.
You should already have saslswitchchannel tcp_auth in there, by default.

  • Adding authentication details for SMTP server?

    Hi,
    I know that I need to put the SMTP server name into fr_global.properties as follows:
    SMTPMailServer=serverName
    But does anyone know how to specify a username/password to log into the SMTP server?
    Thanks!

    I have installed Application Server 10g, Web Cache. I am facing the following problems regarding authentication...
    1) I am trying to open the server console, but it is asking for authentication details....(Username & Password)..what values must be used here?
    admin/welcome1 typically.
    2)I tried to open SQLPLUS that came along with 10g installation.But am not able to enter becoz of authentication failure. (Username, Password & Hoststring)??
    b2b/b2b or sysdba
    3)While triyng to install Oracle Integration B2B, it is asking for 4 parameters...
    (b2b Schema password...host:port...Servicename...ias_admin password)..

  • How do I set up the SMTP server on Lion

    Hello
    I want to use my OS X Lion server to send mail only (I use Rumpus FTP - which needs a SMTP server so that it can send notification emails)
    Is this possible to do with OS X Lion Server?  If so - how?
    Server is set up and running nicely, with DNS etc all running.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    Hello Camelot
    Thank you for your reply.
    Is there a way of testing for sure that SMTP is set up and running, using say telnet??
    I've turned on mail and entered my server domain name, port 25 into the email settings of my Rumpus client (so that it can send notification emails - it also happens to be running on the same server, so I tried localhost and 127.0.0.1 as well but no sucess.
    I have not entered authentication credentials, but turned off authentication using Server Admin.
    Thanks again
    Andrew

  • How to find out about the SMTP Server

    Hi,
    I have been trying to configure groupware in the portal - in particular I want to enable the sending of emails through the portal. I already have a how-to-guide that that seems to explain the steps quite well. However, it mentions that I need to know the SMTP Server of the email. Can you tell me how to find out about the SMTP Server? Where do I need to look for the name of it?
    Thank you and regards,
    Katharina

    Hi Katharina,
    you need the SMTP server of your company. This means you can't look for it in the portal, but have to ask the responsible person in your company.
    Kind regards,
    dominik

  • SMTP server list

    In my email settings for my isp account there are 8 SMTP servers listed. All have the same settings and all are grayed out. I have intermittent problems getting mail and would like to whittle this list down, but there is no edit function. How do these get on the list, I have never added another server.

    I've never seen any grayed out, but I do see that I can't remove the ATT one.
    Others say they can't be removed because they are set as the primary for one or the other of my mail accounts.
    If I go to those mail accounts, and set the ATT one primary, then I can
    delete the ones I don't want.
    When adding a new mail account, you can select a smtp server from one already there, instead of adding a new one each time. So if you use two Gmail accounts, you only need one smtp server (plus the ATT one).

  • 5.3-SP12 CUP-SMTP Server-Redirection URL

    Hi experts,
    I've configured the SMTP server by setting the Applicattion URL : Configuration>Workflow>SMTP Server, but there is another field: Redirection URL that I have not full-filled.
    Which is the functionality of setting the redirection URL at the SMTP Server?
    Many thanks!

    It's two different URLs:
    - you will need the SMTP server (which is not a URL but a host name, i.e. "mail.yourcompany.com")
    - you do not need the redirect URL if you don't do SSO

    I'd recommend the following free, open source library
    from Apache. It's powerful and simple to use.
    http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/email/

  • Send email from OWB with authenticated SMTP server (AUTH_LOGIN)

    Hi all,
    I want to send email from Oracle Warehouse Builder 11.2.0.2 using a SMTP server with basic authentication (AUTH_LOGIN).
    I've created an ACL for OWBSYS user according to note ID 1229769.1 in support.oracle.com.
    But, I need to configure again the ACL to connect to the SMTP server using user and password.
    I read the article in metalink, *How to Send an Email Using SMTP over an SSL Connection [ID 1323140.1]*+
    but I don't know how can I configure again the ACL for use in OWB.
    How OWB is able to authenticate with the SMTP server?
    Thanks!

    Solution:
    The error might occur due to following cases.
    case 1: when the password is wrong
    case 2: when you try to login from some App
    case 3: when you try to login from the domain other than your time zone/domain/computer (This
    is the case in most of scenarios when sending mail from code)
    There is a solution for each
    solution for case 1: Enter the correct password.
    Recomended: solution for case 2: go to
    security settings at the following link https://www.google.com/settings/security/lesssecureapps and
    enable less secure apps . So that you will be able to login from all apps.
    solution 1 for case 3: (This might be helpful) you need to review the activity. but reviewing the activity will not be helpful due to latest security
    standards the link will not be useful. So try the below case.
    solution 2 for case 3: If you have hosted your code somewhere on production server and if you have access to the production server, than take remote
    desktop connection to the production server and try to login once from the browser of the production server. This will add exception for login to google and you will be allowed to login from code.
    But what if you don't have access to the production server. try
    the solution 3
    solution 3 for case 3: You have to enable
    login from other timezone / ip for your google account.
    to do this follow the link https://g.co/allowaccess and
    allow access by clicking the continue button.
    And that's it. Here you go. Now you will be able to login from any of the computer and by any means of app to your google account.

  • Need to use  x509 certificate for a SMTP server

    Hello everybody,
    if I want to send e-mail from a location different than my company builing, my company SMTP server requires authentication with my peronal x509 certificate.
    I had no problem using Thunderbird, but I would like to use OS X Mail.
    I installed the x509 certificate into the keyring, and in fact I can send digitally signed emails, but I was not able to find how to tell Mail to use my x509 certificate to authenticate myself to the SMTP server.
    Does anybody know how to solve this problem?
    Thanks and bye,
    Lapoz.

    Browsers such as iCabMobile and Atomic allow you to choose how the device identifies itself to a website. IE is one of the options. However, if the reason you need IE is for something like ActiveX, it's not going to work.

  • How to check whether a SMTP server is supporting Authentication or not

    Hi All,
    We are using Java Mail API 1.3.1/1.3.2 to send the messages. some of the SMTP servers that we use are supporting authentication and some of them are not.
    As the SMTPTransport.supportsAuthentication() is not available only in Java mail API 1.4.1, we are identifying the SMTP server whether it is supporting authentication or not in the following way.
    Socket clientSocket = null;
    InetSocketAddress socketAddress = null;
    OutputStream outStream = null;
    InputStream inStream = null;
    InputStreamReader inReader = null;
    OutputStreamWriter outWritter = null;
    try
    clientSocket = new Socket();
    socketAddress = new InetSocketAddress(host, port);
    clientSocket.connect(socketAddress, timeout*1000); // convert timeout from second to miliseconds
    // 1: now try to execute the given command by passing that on Out-Socket
    outStream = clientSocket.getOutputStream();
    outWritter = new OutputStreamWriter(outStream);
    outWritter.write("ehlo localhost" +"\n");
    outWritter.flush();
    // 2:Read output of above command
    inStream = clientSocket.getInputStream();
    inReader = new InputStreamReader(inStream);
    // This array limit would be fine to get "AUTH" extension of smtp server.
    char[] arr = new char[16384];
    StringBuilder strBuilder = new StringBuilder();
    inReader.read(arr);
    for(int i=0; i< arr.length; i++)
    strBuilder.append(arr);
    System.out.println(METHOD_NAME + "SMTP server response for ehlo localhost command ->"+strBuilder.toString());
    // The output EHLO command comes like below :
    // ehlo localhost
    // 250-ap9058pc.us.oracle.com Hello ap614ses.us.oracle.com [130.35.33.43], pleased to meet you

    // 250-DSN
    // 250-ETRN
    // 250-AUTH GSSAPI DIGEST-MD5 CRAM-MD5 LOGIN PLAIN
    // Since for XATUH ( like internal IP),
    // we are not sure, so just checking for AUTH capability.
    supported = strBuilder.indexOf("250-AUTH") >=0? true : false;
    As shown in above code, we are issuing 'ehlo localhost' command to SMTP server, if the response i. 'strBuilder' contains '250-AUTH' then we are assuming that it is supporting authentication.
    But for one SMTP server the 'strBuilder' value is showing as '220 mail.durofelguera.com ESMTP Service (Lotus Domino Release 8.5.2) ready at Thu, 16 Feb 2012 13:57:20 +0100' only which is socket connection output but not 'ehlo localhost' command output.

    The question is why the 'strBuilder' is not showing 'ehlo localhost' conad output where as the telnet test results are showing correctly, what is going wrong here?
    Is there any other way to check that whether SMTP server is supporting authentication or not?
    Edited by: sarojak on Feb 19, 2012 10:11 PM

    There are so many things wrong with your code, it's hard to know where to start...
    Basically, the problem is not as simple as you think it is.
    For example, some servers might not allow authentication until you've issued
    the STARTTLS command.
    These days, essentially all servers allow authentication. You're probably better
    off just assuming the server supports.

    my gmail account was setup before i took delivery of the phone but could have been done when phone was activated.
    i added cox pop3 email and had to manually enter both pop3 and smtp servers with both boxes checked on both servers.
    i doubt if it's a verizon issue.

  • ICloud smtp server authentication.

    The IMAP server authentication works fine in Outlook 2010.
    Will not accept the same password for the SMTP server.
    Can anyone help?

    I have the same problem.
    Iam using Outlook 2007 and the icloud control panel. Everything works great also the calender and contact sync runs great, but I can't send any Mails. I heard that there might be a problem with the password. So your password must have at least one capital letter and number. My Passwort has both and also an aditional letter.
    Maybe some has an answer for our problem?
