Auto-fit browser in Flash Catalyst

Hello wise people :-)
I'm an old veteran in photoshop, and just discovered the wonders behind flash catalyst.
I just have this one problem.
Let's see.
I'm creating a beautiful website on my 20" screen, and publish it to my server.
It looks great! But when I try to visit the page from my laptop (wich is smaller), and here comes the problem.
The page was made to fit an 20" inch screen! I don't know how to make it auto-fit ALL browsers and computers.
Does anyone know a solution to my problem ?
Thanks!
Ben

You will need vectorized graphic to solve that becuse the bitmap gonna deform the pixel when you scale it up or down. A idéa - do the graphic in flash import them as .swf and a javascript on the html-page that get the screensize should solve it. Or resize the ria with a fullscreen mode ActionScript.
Is there anyone that have tried to run in fullscreen mode in catalyst?

  • Fit Browser to Flash, without fitting Flash to Browser

I've figured out how to tell my flash website not to scale itself (which degrades the quality of the buttons i've created as .gifs).
And then how to keep it centered within the browser. But this leads to unwanted white, negative space on all sides, since i'm keeping my site small enough for everyone to view (at 800 x 600).
So what code can I add that will scale the browser to the set dimensions of the site? Rather than vice versa.

You can use the window.resizeTo() Javascript method to reshape the browser window to the size that you want. You can call this from an onLoad Javascript method either in the head of the document or from the <body> tag. Be aware that every browser interprets its window size property differently. Additionally, users can customize the chrome on their browser window to include more than normal or remove some normally seen parts of the browser window space.
You may want to give your window resizing a little breathing space on each side. If you set the background color or image to something that complements your movie then the border will be less obvious.

  • Flash Catalyst CS5.5 Scale to fit the Browser size.

    Hello,
I've create a website and when i preview on my browser ( 1280x664 website size) it look very good ,but when i try to see it from a different desktop will smaller or bigger size my website is croped ,some important functions are croped.
I've been all the day looking in internet trying to fund a solution how to fix this but nothing.
I saw an article that explaind how to fix that in flash catalyst cs5 and i tried to but didnt work
so please help me to tell me how to make this work, i want just my website to get scaled
''to work in any monitor size''
    Thank you

Could you add a link to your site here at all ? That would help with some workarounds maybe.
I have noticed that many of the professional websites designed by web-agencies use a common design. They design the content to fit the majority of users who can view and do seem to view at around 800 x 450 - take a look at this as a good reference point.
They then place the main content in a container - and centre it - so that it moves with fluidity - as the users resize the browser window, the content stays central on the page. Often a background image is used behind the main content - and the background image can be scaled to fit the window.
There are some good examples like Carl Cox's Intec Label Website and some more at a great London Design Agency called bobbentleydesign.com
You will note that many of these sites use the same method. Since such reputable designers use the same methods I would assume there's a damn good reason to do it that way, it must be the best way available . . . if there was a reliable way to scale everything then I would bet these pro's would be doing so - but they dont.
Sorry I do not have the kind of solution that you are looking for. I am not a pro and very new to CS5 myself but I hope it may help you out. I think you are looking for something that can not be done effectively or consistently but I may be wrong. Perhaps someone knows but in the meantime . . . work around it.

  • Swf published from Flash Catalyst not playing in Flash Player

    Hi All,
I have 2 issues which I'm not sure may be related or not.
    - I've created a project in FC but when I publish it to .swf it does not open in Flash Player. It plays in Chrome but Flash Player 10 gives a blank screen.
    - I have FC 5.5 and I want to make the project scale according to the browser size. How can I do this? I have checked the Resize option but when it open in Chrome it just cuts out all that is outside the browser screen area.
    Thanks.
    Tej

I can not recall the minimum Flash Player that is required for Flash Catalyst. I suspect that your version of Flash Player is too low. Chrome auto-updates to the latest version, so that is why it works in Chrome.
Also, make sure you understand the differences between resizing and scaling. I wrote a blog post on this here: http://chrisgriffith.wordpress.com/2011/06/22/understanding-resizing-and-scaling-in-flash- catalyst/

  • Exporting file for Flash Catalyst use?

Hey everyone.  I've made a video in Flash Pro, and I want to be able to play it in Flash Catalyst.  I'm using 5.5 of both versions, btw.  I export the Flash Pro video to a .mov file and then use Media Encoder to make that a .flv file.  I bring that file into FC and publish to web.  However, when I put those 'deploy to web' files on my website, the video doesn't play.  Everything else works except for the video.  So I put a generic, short .flv file that I downloaded from the internet into my FC file.  I published it to my website again, and everything worked fine.  The video played.  So obviously the problem with my video must be in the encoding process.
How should I do this?  I read one article online that said when I export a .mov file for FC, I should make sure that I don't have 'Fast - Compressed Header' selected in the Streaming options.  Well, I checked and I don't.  It's just under regular 'Fast'.  So what am I doing wrong here?  I've even tried converting my .mov file to a f4v file, and that doesn't work.  Help here would be so greatly appreciated.

Ah.  I think they just tested the .html file.  Though, they were trying nearly everything yesterday, so they might have tried the swf file, too.  I'll ask him this afternoon.  There's a webpage included in both deploy-to-web and run-local folders.  Both are entitled main.html.  I'm looking at both codes in Dreamweaver to see what would be different, how the code is calling to the flv video, and I can't see any change!  I switch from one code view to the other, and nothing is different.  The only difference is that in the video size area, the html file from the run-local folder is bigger.  So obviously something more was put into the run-local html file, but what I don't know.  I can't figure that out from the code.  Here's the code from the run-local file, though it looks the same in the deploy-to-web html file, too.

Any more ideas.  You've been really, really helpful so far!

  • How to scale to fit browser zoom setting...

So I've created my first SWF using Flash Catalyst; seems to work great.
But I would like for it to zoom with the browser's zoom setting.

  • FAQ: SWF's and loading external files in Flash Catalyst

How do I make the images in my Flash Catalyst project external to the published SWF?
You can choose whether images are embedded in your Flash Catalyst SWF, or loaded dynamically; this can help to keep your SWF's small. Simply right-click an image and chose "Externalize Image".
    Answered by: Adam Cath.
    See entire discussion.
How do I make the SWF I imported to Flash Catalyst load external files?
When importing a SWF, Flash Catalyst only pulls the SWF asset into your project. Many SWF's, such as slideshows and media players, rely on external data files, such as configuration files or media assets. If you would like to use such a SWF in Catalyst, then you will have to place these external resources into your Catalyst project as well as importing the SWF.
Let's assume you have a SWF source folder that contains your SWF file and all of the external files it needs. You can open the SWF file from this folder and it works fine. But, if you import the SWF into Catalyst, the Catalyst project doesn't display it correctly because it can't load the external files. Here's what you do:
    1. Open your swf source folder, and copy all of the files/folders there except the SWF you imported.
    2. In Catalyst, Run/Preview your project (Ctl/Cmd-Enter)
    2. Note the file path to Main.html in your browser
    3. In your OS, open the folder that contains /bin-debug/Main.html from above
    4. Open the "src" folder
    5. Paste all of the files from step 1 into the src folder.
    6. Catalyst won't pick up that your project changed, so tweak it a bit (add a Rectangle), and save it.
    7. Run your project. If it doesn't work, try closing and reopening your project and running again.
For an example, check out: Using an XML-driven SWF in Catalyst to create a slideshow.

You can make you swf a custom component with 2 states.
The first state will be empty and rename it "OFF" the second state will have your swf file and name it ON.
Then go back to your artboard/project, add your 2 buttons ON & OFF.
For the ON button add interaction "play transition to custom component ON"
For the OFF button add interaction "play transition to custom component OFF"
    Here is an example swf_control

  • Exporting a InDesign file to Flash Catalyst...

    Hi all,
I'm just startede exploring Flash Catalyst, and have learned a lot by using a Illustrator file.
But now my question is how to import a Indesign file into FC. I have read that it is possible throurgh some additional steps in Flash Pro. But I can figure out or read how to do it,,,
    Can anyone help me?
It is a book created in Indesing, that I want to create as a swf, with the advanced features of FC. The features in Indesigns interactivity, isn't quite enough for my hunger to make it more web-eatable.. :-)
Hope to hear from some of you!
    Enjoy the hollidays!

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Thats what i was looking for .  Another small thing I notice here is that when i export to html a preview of the html was displayed in the browser. I think thats because the "View HTML after export option is enabled by default. Can I change this setting so that there will be no preview of the HTML after exporting?. Again thanks for the previous answer.

  • Flash Catalyst CS5 resizable application with webpage zoom?

    Hi guys,
I've come back to Catalyst cs5 after a long while of not using it and am wondering if it is possible to create something and make it resizable?
I seem to remember reading a while back about a way to do it in flash builder but can't for the life of me find the discussion again.
What I have is a basic photo gallery with thumbnails on the side and one large image that changes when you click the thumbnail. All this is great on a standard webpage but when you zoom in on the web browser with CTRL and + or zoom out with CTRL and -  the SWF stays the same size. I'd like to be able to make it so the SWF resizes with the zoom so people with trouble seeing can view it bigger.
Does anybody have any idea how I can do this, if it is possible? (Baring in mind I can't upgrade to Catalyst 5.5)
    Thanks,
    Gareth

    Hi,
    That really helped me out!
I was playing around with importing all different file types to see what would crash Flash Catalyst and it appears to just be .flv files, because it imports images, mp3s, and swf files and .f4v video files with no problems. Hey, at least now I can continue importing videos as long as they are .f4v's!
Would still be helpful to figure out why it doesn't like .flv's though...
The step are: File>Import>Video/Sound File...Dialogue box opens, I choose any .flv file (include files which seemed to work fine before) and the program just quits itself giving me the error report window. When I use .f4v files no such problem occurs...
Will send you a yousendit link containing one of the guilty .flv files now - this is a .flv file I used in creating a page with flash Catalyst just days ago before it decided it would no longer import them.
Thanks for your help so far

  • Importing a flash Catalyst .swf file in Flash CS5 ?

    Hi,
I found Flash Catalyst by luck while browsing the Adobe website and downloading the Flash CS5 trial...
    One simple question....
Can I import a .swf file created in Flash Catalyst into a Flash CS5 .fla as an element ?
I created a scrolling text attached to a custom made scrolling bar in Flash Catalyst, and I would now like to use it in my Flash CS5 project...
Well, I will be waiting for your responses...
Thanks in advance for your help !
    Gilbert Gour

Unfortunately you can't import an SWF from Flash Catalyst into Flash CS5.  Flash Catalyst uses the Flex Framework for building the its SWF.  Flash CS5 does not use the Flex Framework and doesn't know what to do with that kind of file.  You can load an SWF from Flash CS5 into your Flash Catalyst project, though.

  • Liquid sites on Flash Catalyst.

Hello everybody, I'm here again to address other questions cruel.
I want it to migrate my projects to Flash Catalyst CS5, but I know that at least 70% of this incredible tool. Well, let the doubt:
I wonder if it is possible to sites that meet all the browser screen (called liquid sites). Is there any way to do this in Catalyst CS5 without using codes?
    Thanks.
    @eldermarx

    Hi,
Flash Catalyst only supports fixed dimensions at the moment.  Projects don't scale to the size of the users browser.
Take a look at this FAQ on liquid layouts.  It may help you. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/652613.

  • Flash catalyst 5 file opened in flash builder gives "Error #2032"

    Hi there,
As the title suggests I created a file in Flash catalyst 5 and to give it resizeability I edited it in flash builder to add preinitialize="systemManager.stage.scaleMode='showAll'" in main.xhtml as I found suggested in the forums.
The problem is when I try to load this in my web browser I get the #2032 error and nothing happens.
Does anybody more knowledgeable than me have any ideas as to why I might be getting this error?
    Best regards,
    Gareth

I'll give you the short answer, Flash Catalyst is built on top of the Flex Framework and it's libraries. When you launch or load a FC swf, it will contact the Adobe servers to check the status of various libraries. Since you are loading this into a standard Flash Professional created swf, you are by passing some of the fallbacks that exist.
If the movieClip that you are creating is just a filler image, and you are just centering the FC swf, then I also recommend using CSS to display the filler and some HTML/CSS to center the content.
    Hope this helps a little.
If you did the loading of the FC swf from a Flash Builder based project, you should not have the issue, since it is a Flex based SWF, the framework checks are already handled for you.

  • My top ten requested features for Flash Catalyst Next

Here is my top ten list of requested features for Flash Catalyst:
    10. Rearranging of pages / states in the pages / states panel (also resizing to smaller icons)
    9. Menu bar option to Insert Custom / Generic Component. There isn't a  way to create a custom component without first adding something to stage  and then converting that.
    8.  Edit component on double click in layers panel
    7. Replace existing artwork with library component - for example, when you create a button or text input then you should be able to use that skin in all of the text input instances rather than creating new ones every time you choose convert artwork to component
    6. Artboard sized to content - no hardcoded size of the project
    5. Import of Flex Components / movieclps
    4. Flex Capacitor library integration / support - supports deep  linking and navigation through your flash catalyst or flex project  without coding - all the work is done
    3. Integration and coexistence in native Flex project - no fxpl or zip - flat file structure
    2. Container support - VGroup HGroup Skinnable Container - set layout property
    1. Component Constraints support - top left bottom right horizontal center vertical center baseline width height 100%

    Additional features:
    • When opening a Illustrator file the option to choose which artboard or layers to import (rather than the whole project).
    • Set a default option so that all imported text fields from Illustrator use "Fit Height". Mainly because currently it is cutting off the descent but also bc it allows you to change the text content (globalization) and have the text fit.
    • Show intersection lines while dragging. At least vertical center and horizontal center... similar to Flex and Illustrator.
    • Add a convert to vector when selecting images.
    • In the code view the default directory "components" could be renamed to something like: design, compositions, construction, architecture, form, embodiments, chassis, constitution, frame, representation, manifestation, cast, expression, mold, etc. just not skins. design, chassis, representations, cast, expressions, compositions are my favorites. It would be nice to be able to define this folder path in preferences.
    • Use the layer name to name the library components. Otherwise there is a directory with 30 assets named "graphic[n]".
    • Command to clean out library of unused symbols.

  • FAQ: I'm having trouble installing Flash Catalyst CS5, how do I clean up beta installations?

The majority of users have trouble installing Flash Catalyst CS5 when they have not properly run the uninstaller on a previous version (typically a beta version).
If this is the case, the first thing you should try is running the Adobe CS5 cleanup script: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/829/cpsid_82947.html

Flash Player Protected Mode provides a modern, sophisticated set of security protections that we see as critical in today's security landscape.
We highly recommend that users not disable ProtectedMode.  Also, it's worth noting that by manually changing your mms.cfg, you have opted out of Protected Mode for all future versions of Flash Player, as we will continue to honor that preference. This puts your system at risk, and that risk will continue to grow over time.
Ultimately, this is an issue with the RealPlayer Browser Record plug-in.  There is a more technical explanation in the Mozilla bug referenced above in the thread, but the simplified version is that the security enhancements designed to prevent the introduction of malware via Flash Player make RealPlayer Browser Record plug-in no longer compatible with Flash Player for Firefox.  You can disable the record functionality to eliminate this issue, while retaining the ability to view both Flash and Real Player content.
To disable the Real Player Browser Record functionality while maintaining the enhanced security provided by Flash Player with Protected Mode, do the following:
        Launch RealPlayer
Click the RealPlayer icon in the upper-left corner of the window, and choose Preferences
Choose Download & Recording from the left-hand menu
Uncheck "Enable Web Download & Recording for these installed browser"
        Click OK
