Mail not recognizing digital certificate

Hi all,
I had a digital certificate generated by .Mac which worked fine in mail.
Today I noticed that mail stopped giving me the option to digitally singed my mails.
Did someone notice this behavior? Is there a fix?
Thanks,
Ziv

Anna,
I am having the same issue. I am on a new laptop without my cert, so I downloaded it again from thawte but it only installs the public key, not the private key.

  • Mail not recognizing new certificate, recognizing old expired certificate.

Recently the Thawte certificate for the SSL mail server at work expired and Mail could no longer connect to our mail server. No one else in the office uses a Mac and no one else seemed to be affected. IT claimed all their certs were up to date. I contacted the fine folks at Thawte and they hooked me up with the new cert. I've added that to my X509Anchors keychain, along with the root cert from Thawte to be sure, and Mail is not recognizing it. In fact, the old expired cert is in my login keychain, so I delete it, but every time Mail attempts to connect to the mail server, the old expired cert reappears in my login keychain and it gives me the same "expired cert" error message. Temporary workaround has been to change my system date/time so it is within the valid dates of the old expired cert, but that renders my calendar useless, and other problems. What is going on? Any ideas? How can I get Mail to use the new valid cert?

  • Mail not recognizing new password

All right so I recently had to change the password on one of my Yahoo.com mail accounts because I could not remember the last one. I have this one linked up the mail application on my computer, however it is not recognizing the new password (yes, I'm typing it in correctly, in fact I'm just copy + pasting it). I also checked keychain and it didn't find any problems  apparently when I ran first aid.
How do I get my computer to recognize my new password? This is ridiculous.

Unfortunately it is not recognizing the password still. It recognizes the copy + pasted password on yahoo.com, but when I use the copy + pasted password with apple mail (even after deleting it) it doesn't recognize it.
It was giving me a message that it couldn't connect when I put in the password. However I figured it out. What I had to do was copy the password from what I had, put it into the login area for yahoo.com, have firefox remember the password, then copy that password from firefox's preferences and paste that into the apple password part.
Weird thing is though is when I looked at the two (the one I had kept typed and the copied one from the saved yahoo) they were exactly the same, so I don't know why it wasn't recognizing it.
Thank you for replying to my question though!

  • Mail not recognized in account

I created my new iTouch in my iMac and did first sync perfectly.
I bought a game and synced it. No problem.
Now in the iTouch, I confirm account and mail to access the game, as requested.
    "E-mail not valid".
    What the ** ?

Did you set up the account on a device that asks you to pair a device? If so, this is the older version of sync.
Are you using an email address in the username? [https://accounts.firefox.com/reset_password]

  • Mail not recognizing links inside emails

Using Mountain Lion ver 10.8.2 and Mail ver 6.2
When I open an email sent to me with Links to a website, I click on the Link and I receive this message.

No associated application could be found.
Any suggestions for fixing this. Cutting and pasting is getting old.

I have the same configuration - OS 10.8 and Mail 6.2 with Safari as my default browser.  My mail links still do not work.  I don't get any error message, just nothing happens.  I can right click and select "Open URL" but that's lame.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

  • Mail not recognizing servers

I have an iMac G4, recently updated to 10.4.4 (big error?). The last two days, several of our Mail accounts (I have 5) either gave me the "offline" tilde when I brought the program up, or it worked fine. Manually going on line and "get new mail" would usually work - occasionally would return to offline status. Rebooted. That account was fine - another went "offline". Both were earthlink.net accounts. Today, those worked fine. Looked like we were home free, and then Mail won't recognize our .mac account - says "account not on server." When I go, via Safari, to .mac, our account is there, accessible, etc. Is this an issue with 10.4.4? Before upgrading, we were just fine. If so, how do I get BACK to 10.4.3? thanks.

    An update:
Last night, after a frustrating few hours, I shut the mail program down for the night. This morning, all is well. It recognizes .mac, it keeps all my accounts on line. Solar flares? Sun spots? gremlins???
Anyway, I see by the discussion threads there are a few others with similar problems. I'll keep watching.

  • Mail not recognizing ZIP and PDF attachments

Since upgrading to Leopard, I have received a few emails with attachments in my work IMAP account. Some of the emails are fine (the ones with XLS and DOC attachments) and others display the attachment as a bunch of encoded text in the email (ZIP and PDF files).
Thunderbird can read all the emails just fine, so I think that the problem is that some kind of mail setting is screwed up or it is a bug in the Apple mail client.
Does anyone know why Apple mail would not recognize the data as an attachment?
Here is an example of what shows up in my email:
    --Apple-Mail-17-830733730
    Content-Type: multipart/mixed;

We are having a problem were Preview cannot display the text of an attached PDF in an email. Really strange. Shows the formatting of lines and grids graphics etc. But the text is blank.

  • TS3276 I recently installed LION and have been having email problems, sending and receiving since. My server (Cable-fiber optics) tell me they see nothing wrong, that it is a program issue. I get messages about not recognizing the certificate.

If I click the go-ahead button, I am warned about not be assured of security danger. This keep happening over and over. It is a pain using email since LION. I went into Keychain Access and tried choosing an Apple certificate, but that is never permanent. Should I just ignore the warning? Will this kind of problem disappear with Mountain Lion? Is there a solution?

What email program are you using?

  • Safari and Mail not recognizing IP/network after picking up new WiFi?

Very strange behavior that has happened numerous times - and I can't figure out what is going on.  The situation is that when I travel to school and connect to the wifi network there, I'm having issues with Mail (5.1) and Safari (5.1.2).  Network CP shows me an IP address and appears all is well - however Safari does nothing (no msg that I'm "not connected to the internet") and Mail just displays the triangle with exclamation point inside ...next to each mailbox.  Interestingly, I can open up Firefox and go on my way.  So why is Firefox able to 'see' the internet (Dropbox and other apps are fine too) yet Mail/Safari is having issues?
    Here's what I've done:
Quitting/re-opening Safari:  Safari icon bounces in dock for a minute, literally, and never opens.  Now I go to try to open it again and it doesn't even try to open - no bounce, nothing (it's actually in "not responding" mode according to the force quit box).  So I force quit, re-open and it goes right back to that same behavior - not responding.  Have to restart to get it to act normally again.
Mail won't even quit. I have to force quit - every time that this happens.
Anyways, I can't tell if this is MB Air specific behavior, given its wifi troubles (which I have continuously whether at home or school) - or if this is purely an OS/software issue.....or a combination?
Anything else I can do to help troubleshoot, let me know.  Thanks in advance.

  • OSX not recognizing digital camera

Suddenly, neither iPhoto nor Image Capture are opering with or recognizing my Canon digital camera when I connect it. The camera has worked with both programs flawlessly until now.
I've changed the batteries in the camera and have tried the connector cable in both USB ports on my MacBook Pro, no luck. I don't believe there's any preference in my camera for choosing whether the device will appear as a hard drive when connected to the computer. There aren't any error messages, other than in Image Capture: "no camera or scanner detected." More detaiil:
    - version of iPhoto '09: 8.1.2
    - version of the Operating System: Snow Leopard, 10.6.8
    - 13" MacBook Pro
I'm in the process of repairing permissions through Disk Utility. Any other ideas in case that doesn't work?
    Thanks!

Okay--after repairing permissions and restarting, removing the image storage card and putting it back in, the finder does recognize the camera. Whew! I really didn't want to reformat the card and lose my photos!

  • Exchange mail not recognized

I put in the server, user name, password in setup but still no mail.
I also went back, deleted the account, and from the "info" menu of the iPhone screen, went to the bottom of the page and selected "advanced" "replace information on this iPhone' hoping it would create the account for me and sync. No help either. Went back added account and tried to use the "advanced" selection again. No help.
    Thanks in advance.

The Exchange sync is now working for me against our corporate Exchange 2003 server, but it took a bit of trying to get it to go. Here's what I found I needed to do:
    1. I had to call my corporate helpdesk to have them enable my account for remote access (aka, to let it use ActiveSync). Apparently ActiveSync isn't allowed by default in our system. Of course, I have no idea how paranoid your Exchange admins are compared to mine, but it might be worth a phone call.
    2. The "Exchange server" you need to enter isn't necessarily your mail server--it's the server where ActiveSync is running. In my case, my Mac's Entourage setup hits my real Exchange mail server and when I tried to put that same server name into the iPhone, it didn't work; however, as it turns out, that's not the server where we run ActiveSync. I found out that my company runs ActiveSync on our publicly facing Outlook Web Access server (http://outlook.companyname.com). The good news for me is that now my corporate email is available from anywhere since it's based on the publicaly-facing OWA server, versus the "real" Exchange server that's behind a few layers of firewall and requires a VPN to get to from outside of work. Again, I have no idea where your company runs ActiveSync, but try your externally facing OWA server instead of your mail server.

  • OSX mail not recognizing other short names beyond first short name

I have a ready weird problem. According to the documentation any additional short names are treated as aliases and Postfix uses these aliases.
The installation is a fresh install with 10.4.7 Combo applied. My postconf is at the end. There is only one domain (lewington-web.com). The MX record is correct and the gateway has port 25 open (as well as 143 for IMAP). Open Directory is setup and working fine.
The only way I can get Postfix to use these extra aliases is to edit the /etc/aliases file and manually add them. This *****! Why does postfix not read the open directory entries other than the original account shortname?
The error I get without setting up the aliases is:
    550 Recipient address rejected:
User unknown in local recipient table
My postconf -n is as follows:

That sounds more like a feature so that simple short names do not get confused.
I would expect most people have things like relatives full names in iChat and the Address Book but would Nickname them like "Mum", "Dad", "Sis" and the like such as "Bill" for William.
If you had two "Dave"s I would expect the Nickname to be "Dave1" and "Dave2" so that they were different.
This sounds more like protection from confusion.

  • Mail not sending email with digital signature

    Hello helpers,
What's the deal with Mail and digital signatures? I could never get the application to work with my Versign class 1 digital signature in Tiger and now in Leopard. Keep getting error 1035. That's what led mr to Thunderbird and I got Leopard hoping to resolve this issue. Keychain seems as if it's a weirdo in its simplicity and where I believe the problem lies. my digital certificate resides on the system but is not in the my certificate category. However, when I select it in system, afterwards it shows up in my certificate category. If I close Keychain and reopen it, my certificate is empty.
I like Mail. However, it's important to me to use my digital certificate in signing my email. I believe I must have done something wrong in the installation of the certificate and I can't imaging what. Why can't Mail accept digital certificate directly like other email application rather than go through a third party...Keychain. Mail help did not help. Any workable solution would be appreciated. Thanks
