Auto Increment Sequence Custom Field

Hi All,
I was wondering if it is possible
to have a custom field defined as an auto incrementing sequence number?  E.g. Let’s say I go in and create a project for the first time, this field will show the value 1.  The next project I go to create, the field shows the value 2 etc. etc.
If possible, how can this be implemented using customization?  Can it be done in Project Online?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  thank you!

Hi JSimoni1,
You can generate a project unique ID using a webpart, even with Project Online.
Please find below the procedure in EpmExpert blog:
http://epmxperts.wordpress.com/2012/05/21/generate-unique-id-for-project-using-a-webpart/
Note that the code might need some adjustments to stick to your business need.
Hope this helps,

  • Auto increment sequence

Can I do something like auto increment sequence in planning so that whenever a user adds new asset it takes a number from this sequence.
    Thanks,
    foksh

    Hi,
Create a member called Counter in Accounts.
Increment the value everytime you add an asset and assign the value after update to asset number:
-Make sure member combination for the Counter values is fixed to one combination only
    Counter->BegBalance->NoYear->(one member from all dimensions)=Counter->BegBalance->NoYear->(one member from all dimensions)+1;
    "Asset Number" = Counter->BegBalance->NoYear->(one member from all dimensions);

  • Auto Increment of Primary Field in Table Maintainance

    Hi,
We want to give an Auto increment to the Primary Key, when ever the table is updated/inserted with a new record. How to get the value updated????
    For Eg,
Table ZTEST Contains     MANDT, ITEM,   EBELN.
It should have the values 800    001   000977
And when the next record is created, the ITEM value should be Automatically get the value 002.. and so on for every Record.
Pls do let me know if any other details is reqd.
    Thanx in Advance.
    Ajaz

    Dear Syed,
You can do many things in table maintenance screen like validation of some field, making some field required or displayed etc.
For auto increment you have to use Number-Ranges. FM NUMBER_GET_NEXT is helpful in this case.
Where to write the code??? The Function-Group you have made. There will be includes. You can easily locate the place to write these codes.
Caution point is that if you re-generate the table maintenance then all code will be gone.
    Regards,
    Deva.

  • Auto Incrementing in Text Field

I imported a tab file and one column was the city, state and zip code. For some reason, the Zip code auto increments. It just so happened that the first cell was Durham, NC 27701. All subsequent cells incremented the Zip code by one, so the second cell became Durham, NC 27702. I have tried making the column a text field, and that did not work. I do not find any formula in the field, so am at a loss as to how to prevent the auto-incrementing from hapening.

None, Vallauris is not in Provence but in 'Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur'
At this time there is a great discussion about this name.
Some wish to change it because they think that thge acronym PACA is not their cup of tea.
Given that, inhabitants of "Provence" refuse to drop "Provence",
inhabitants of "Alpes" refuse to drop "Alpes",

My own advice is simply : don't use an acronym !
I searched heavily and din't find a Vallauris in Pyrénées.

  • Auto increment sequence problem

    Hi,
Is there any particular thing about 21st record because, when i insert data into same or different table, records start from 21 instead of 1 or where it was finished before.
Example : I leave a table with 3 records. Come back, I insert data into same table then, auto increment starts from 21 not the 4!!!
    Thanks
    CREATE SEQUENCE FRANC_AUTOINC_SEQ
    START WITH 1
    INCREMENT BY 1
    NOMAXVALUE;
    CREATE TRIGGER FRANC_AUTOINC_TRG
    BEFORE INSERT ON FRANCHISE
    FOR EACH ROW
    BEGIN
    SELECT FRANC_AUTOINC_SEQ.NEXTVAL INTO :NEW.FRANCHISEID FROM DUAL;
    END;

    Hi,
There's no need to do anything.
If you want fewer numbers to be discarded in the future, you can make the cache size smaller, or remove it entirely, as in:
    CREATE SEQUENCE FRANC_AUTOINC_SEQ
    START WITH 1
    INCREMENT BY 1
    NOMAXVALUE
NOCACHE;This may mean slightly less efficiency, since (to use my earlier analogy) you have to go to the number store and buy a new box every time you need a number, rather than going to the store once and not having to go back again until you've used up the box of twenty numbers. If you rarely use more than one new number in a session, the loss in efficiency will be insignificant.
Regardless of the caching, if only one session is using the sequence, you will get consecutive numbers in that session. If NOCACHE is in effect, and you are the only person using the sequence, you will get consecutive numbers even if work over multiple sessions.
Ending the session is what causes the cached numbrs to be discarded. Shutting down the database implies ending all sessions, but otherwise has nothing to do with the sequence.

  • Does all RDBMS support auto-increment field?

    Hi,
I am designing a java application in which I have to write some logic to auto-increment one database field. Can anyone tell me that all the databases support the auto-increment fields.
    Thanks in advance.
    Chris

There seem to be two kinds of facility for this in databases. One kind has an auto-increment field. Unfortunately they aren't consistent about how you obtain the value just created after an insert (which you almost invariably require to know). Generally you use a select statement to pick up the value of some kind of last row index function, but the name and syntax varies.
The other kind uses a separate object in the database called a SEQUENCE. You create this with a CREATE SEQUENCE statment, and generally you reference nextval(sequence_name) in the default attribute of the database field.
To get the last allocated sequence number you use select currval(sequence_name)
Again the syntax is a bit inconsistent. You should also probably use transaction isolation if someone else might be incrementing the same sequence.

  • Prefixing and auto-increment field

    Hello
I have a web application (php/mySQL) that has an auto-increment primary key field called job_id.
Could anyone help me add a prefix to this?
I want to add the year and month (YYMM/) in front of the field (e.g. 0811/1234 then 0811/1235 assuming current month and year is Nov 2008).
Maybe Im wrong about adding the prefix to the primary key. Should I maybe add an additional field to maintain this?
    Any advice greatly appreciated...
    Regards
    Paul

    Hi Paul,
MySQL table and column names may only consist of letters, underscores and numbers anyway, so the date format you´d like to use would lead to errors due to the forward slashes.
Maybe Im wrong about adding the prefix to the primary key.
I don´t know what you want to achieve with this approach, but I´d really leave the name of the Primary Key column "as is" and use a different column for storing data which contains such date values.

  • Passing Custom fields to Req and PO

    Hi,
We are on SRM 5.0 and ECC 5.0.We are using the classic scenario .I am trying to transfer the catalog ID from SRM shopping cart to R3 Req .There are number of threads in this forum that describe the procedure, which i understand.
But now if the Req is converted to PO in R3 either manually or auto, does the custom fields also get transferred automatically ,if i maintain the same custom fields in CI_EKPODB & CI_EKPODBX? or is there anything else i need to do.
    Thanks
    Raghu

    Hi
Besides BBP_CUFMAP, you have to of course :
    - create the same Zdata element datain ECC as you have done it in SRM.
    - maintain CI_EKPODB with append of your Zdata element
    - create CI_EKPODBX and activate it !
Then you will be able to sea your Zdata element (or CUF) in the EKPO table.
    You don't need to use BBP_PO_INBOUND !

  • Auto Increment Field / Sequence - How?

Am I missing something here - is there no build in support to tie a datatables auto incriment field to a sequence so that it will be automatically retrieved on a update command?
    I have a table that has a field (RECORD_ID) that gets it's value from a Sequence (RECORD_IDSEQ).
I am retrieving a dataset and setting the RECORD_ID field to autoincrement, setting the seed & step to -1. Then I am adding some records & I see the autoincrement field i working correctly. UNFORTUNATELY, I still have to iterate through the table before I call an update in order to insert (from another function) the RECORD_IDSEQ.NEXTVAL value into the RECORD_ID column.
Surely I am missing something. It sure seems simple enough to have a property of the autoincrement field/command builder that relates to the SEQUENCE name so that the update method generates the RECORD_IDSEQ.NEXTVAL automagically.
Can anyone shed any light on this for me?
    Thanks!

    Bob,
Currently, there's no built-in "link" between the .NET DataTable's auto-increment field and the Oracle sequence.
Therefore, you will need to execute a custom update command or a custom insert command which uses the RECORD_IDSEQ.NEXTVAL for the RECORD_ID column (rather than the auto-generated SQL via the CommandBuilder).
Furthermore, in your custom SQL you can have a RETURNING clause which returns the RECORD_ID column value to populate back into the DataTable so that the sequence values in the Database is in sync with those in the DataTable.
We'll consider providing a way to "link" the DataTable auto-increment column to an Oracle sequence in a future release.

SHort of paying someone else to do the work for you I am afraid there is no shortcut.
However writing a component need not be difficult or complex if you take a sensible approach.
There are some excellent blogs out there, at least one comprehensive book and even the documentation will get you started
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10316_01/cs/cs_doc_10/documentation/developer/sdk_getting_started_10en.pdf
I recommend you get Bex's book and you should be able to get a new component like this up and running in a day or two.

  • Integer auto-increment fields

I am using 3.0.3 and have a PC class that uses application identity and

This is a bug. I've reported it at:
    http://bugzilla.solarmetric.com/show_bug.cgi?id=910
I expect it will be fixed in the next release. In the meantime, if you
want to use a numeric wrapper for your auto-increment field, it will
need to be of type java.lang.Long.
