Auto save: document will not open in

When I went to save a document for the first time, Appleworks crashed on me. I immediately went into my auto saved file to retrieve the doc but got an "unexpected end of file" message. What does that mean? How come other document will open from the autosaved file but the one I NEED will not? Is there a way that I can get it to open (tweak it)? I tried dragging into a new doc both in Appleworks 6 and Text/Edit programs but I get a message that says: 'this document cannot be opened in Appleworks'. Why not since that's the program I used to create the x#$@ thing in the first place? Am I SOL?
I am desperate. I appreciate your help.
thanks,
Jane

Native InDesign files are not backward compatible for any versions, so you cannot open later version files in any earlier versions.
You can ask the originator of the file to export to .inx from CS4 and you will get a file that will open in CS3 (but not earlier -- .inx is good only in the version that created it and one back), but it will be missing anything done with CS4-only features, and there is a strong probablility that lines of text will wrap differently due to differences inthe text engines. If the file never needs to return to CS4 this may be acceptable, but it is not a good method for round-tip collaboration. The best solution is everyone working on the same version.

• A Pages document will not open. Others do, but are slow. Need this document!

A Pages document will not open and there is a screen annoucement it will not open. Other Pages documents do open, but are slow. The one that will not open now was also very slow. My last visit to the Apple store the Genius Bar said I needed a new HD. Is this the final straw and it's time to take it in and let them replace it? Under warrently.

Do we know what document won't open?
Do we also know what version of Pages you are talking about, on what MacBook Pro?
Something tells me you are not using Mac OSX (10.7), the only thing you have noted.
If your Mac is running slow, the usual reason is your hard drive is too full. OSX likes 10-15% free space.

• Page documents will not open.

Suddenly some of my page documents will not open. I get this message: You need a newer version of Pages to open this document. I have the newest version and it has been opening these documents just fine previously

Sounds like you have both Pages 5 and Pages '09 on your Mac and are alternately opening them.
When Pages 5 was installed, your iWork '09 software was moved to your Applications/iWork folder.
Pages '09 can not open Pages 5 .pages files.
Don't toss Pages '09 however as it has vastly more features and is less buggy than Pages 5.

• Cloud documents will not open today?

Local Pages documents on my Mac will open as normal. Cloud documents will not open today. They worked yesterday.
Does anyone else have this problem? And did you find a solution?
Many thanks

OK, I'm replying to my own post.
I have two documents saved to the Cloud which will not open on my iMac. When I tried to duplicate one in the "open" window, Mac OS brought up a warning that the document was being modified. When I checked it on my iPad the document did not exist. So something went wrong during a sync at some point. On the iPad I could duplicate the document and now I can edit the duplicate on my iMac.
Summary: at the moment it looks like sync problems with specfic documents and not a general problem.

My pages documents will not open and I am not happy at all?

Hi italiancooking,

• One of my pages documents will not open. the others will

Hello, wondering if anyone has any answers here. One (only one) of my pages document will not open. The message says `the document couldn`t be opened` and there is a little yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in the middle of it, next to the message. I used this document this morning, no problem. Also, I checked other pages documents and there is no problem only with one.
Kind regards,
Thank you

• Double Clicking on a PDF document, will not open

When double clicking on a PDF document with the default document properties set to Acrobat Professional 8, the document will not launch Acrobat.
If Acrobat is already opened however it will launch.
I've tried:
re-setting file associations
deleting preferences
Uninstalling and reloading Acrobat: (solves the issue for a time but after a period of use it reverts to this broken state).
OS X 10.5.5 is fully updated, as is Acrobat 8.

Another Utility that will do the same without aid of DVD.
is a Utility called
AppleJack version 1.5 works with OSX.5.x and version 1.4.3 work with all previous systems.
download install the go into Single User mode (restart Command-S) wait for screen to come up will be in B&W as soon as it starts up release until you see a Blinking Block Cursor. type applejack as instructed on screen. follow the commands as shown in Order.
I amazing what problems it can clear up. Font Caches are removed and others. If you follow all the way to the end. Its amazing how much your machine will speed up up not having to wade through obsolete Cruft. Note if you do everything to the end. will take you computer a few minutes to rebuild caches, and other items.

• PDF documents will not open in Adobe Acrobat 5

I have one computer with XP running Acrobat 5. I now have a second computer running Windows 7 with Acrobat 9 Pro. When I take PDF documents from the computer with Acrobat 9 Pro to the one with Acrobat 5, the PDF docs will not open - an error message states the file is corrupted. Why is this hapening and how can it be fixed?
Thanks for any assistance - confused.

#1 - The files were moved using a thumb/USB drive and "Safely Remove" was used.
#2 - You may be on to something here for some: Some were created by AA9 but some others were scanned in and some were from AA8 that I had no trouble before.
#3 - The only "special feature" is that the PDF files are searchable and some are a PDF of an image.
These are basic PDF files.
Thanks for your assistance

• Adobe/Acrobat PDF documents will not open, tried community suggestions, version 9.4.4.235

Assorted websites may refer to links for documents to open, but I receive an error message stating that the Adobe/Acrobat loaded will not open them, I have tried all of the community suggestions to no avail

Click the Firefox button, go to Add-ons, then Plugins and disable the following.

#Fun Web Products

#My Web Search Plugin

#Smiley Central

For the above three, see: http://www.pchell.com/support/mywebsearch.shtml
In addition, disable the Yahoo ActiveX plugin.
ActiveX is a Microsoft technology which is frequently targeted by criminals. Although the technology is reasonably safe when running inside Internet Explorer, it potentially exposes your system to attack when installed in Firefox.
You do not need it to access Yahoo in any event.
If the problem persists in spite of the above steps, try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.
'''N.B.''' You do not need to run "Hijack This" as described in the link since Firefox provides the option to disable plugins as mentioned above.

• Numbers 3 documents will not open with maverick

Numbers documents created on the ipad with IOS7 will not open on the MAC with Maverick 10.9. I downloaded numbers 3 a week ago and it is verified in my download history. When I go to the App store it says Numbers 3 is installed. But when I try to open a numbers document (with the MAC) that I had created in Numbers with the IPAD3 using IOS7 it says I need to download the latest version of numbers.

Hi SFsparkie,
When you upgraded to Numbers 3, the old Numbers 2.3 wasn't removed from your Mac. It's still there in a folder within your Applications folder.
So probably you're inadvertently trying to open the document in the old Numbers.
Open it from Numbers 3.0 (the one in your Applications folder, not in the subfolder) and you should have no problems.

HELP!!!

Hi solism,
Are you working with a WebDav service or is this a document that may be in your iCloud account?
The article below will help you retrieve the document if you have it saved in iCloud:
iCloud: About using iWork for iOS and iCloud
How can I access documents on my iOS device on my computer?
In OS X Mountain Lion, you can also access your iWork documents directly from iCloud within the applications themselves. Choose Open from the File menu in an iWork application, then click the iCloud button in the top-left corner of the document browser to view all documents for that application that you have stored in iCloud.
On any Mac or PC, you can also visit icloud.com/iwork to download your iWork for iOS documents in iWork ’09, Microsoft Office, or PDF format (at icloud.com/iwork). You can also upload your iWork ’09 or Microsoft Office documents from your Mac or PC by dragging and dropping them to icloud.com/iwork; the documents will automatically appear on your iOS devices you've set up with iCloud.
Note: You cannot download a document from iCloud.com in Microsoft Office or PDF format to your Mac or Windows computer until the document has been previously opened on an iOS device. Learn more about Documents in the Cloud.
I hope this helps ...
