E.g.
/home/billy> if[ \$USER = "oracle" ]; then echo true;else echo false;fi
bash: syntax error near unexpected token `then'
/home/billy> if [ \$USER = "oracle" ]; then echo true;else echo false;fi
falseWhy do you use a leading slash for the +$USER+ variable? It changes it from a variable to a literal.
/home/billy> echo $USER
billy
/home/billy> echo \$USER
$USERLiteral "+$USER+" will never equal literal "+oracle+".

Auto starting Oracle at boot time
I have installed Oracle 11gr2 on Oracle Enterprise Linux successfully. Now i want to make oracle available automatically at boot time. I mean whenever server is up Oracle starts automatically.
It is not happening. I have to run dbstart script to make oracle available.
In ubuntu, we create /etc/init.d/oracledb script file, and with the use of following commands, oracle starts at boot time
chmod a+x /etc/init.d/oracledb
update-rc.d oracledb defaults 99
What i need is, its parallel for OEL. -

Auto start emctl dbconsole on server reboots...
Hi All,
I am using Linux 5.3 Os and 10g (10.2.0.4) version of database.
I configured listener,db service and emctl service in auto start mode, means if my server gets rebooted then all these service should be up and running automatically.
this script is working fine but the issue is with "emctl" status.
after server reboots if I check emctl console through the url of "https://localhost:1158/em, then it is working .
but If I check manually this service through "emctl status dbconsole" it display as "not running", if I am going to start through "emctl start dbconsole" it display is already running.
now my question is: if this console is already up and running on machine reboots then why it disaply as "not running" when I check manually.
can any one suggest me?

Automatically start oracle after reboot
Is there a way to automatically start oracle after reboot? Our platform is Soaris 10 and Oracle 10.2.0.1.0
(1) Don't forget to edit $ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbstart. (Note:337927.1)
Original line:
ORATAB=/etc/oratab
Modified line:
ORATAB=/var/opt/oracle/oratab
(2) As per Note:336299.1 use:
dbstart $ORACLE_HOME
or
dbstart /u01/app/oracle/product/10.2.0 (or whatever is your Oracle_Home)
or you'll get: "ORACLE_HOME_LISTNER is not SET, unable to auto-start Oracle Net Listener"

Please forward me process/steps for auto start/stop oracel services:bad interperter : no such file or directorymeans that it could not find the interpreter which should be used to interpret the script.
most probably this is caused by the shebang (#!/bin/bash)
the default location of bash on RHEL (OEL/CentOS) is /bin/bash, which means that the shebang looks correct.
can you make the shebang:
#!/bin/bash -xso shelltracing is put on and execute script again?
this will make clear if it is the shebang in your script, or in another script. -

exitdoes the script work when you log on to your freshly started system, logon as root and execute /etc/init.d/dbora start?
the script does not have to have group membership of the dba group.
also, do not create symlinks yourself.
by adding the service using chkconfig the script is started and stopped as indicated by chkconfig --list, no need to do additional steps like creating symlinks. -

Errors in Offline Backup via DB13 SAP & Oracle on Linux
OS: Linux Database : Oracle Systems Affected : Production & Disaster Recovery Server
Hi
We have offline backup scheduled every friday via SAP the backup runs fine & copies all the files in the backup directory but when i go see the backup logs in DB 14 i see the Offline Backup ending with Error Code 0005 & when i see the Detail logs i see following in red
BR0278E Command output of '/oracle/UHP/102_64/bin/sqlplus /nolog < /oracle/UHP/sapbackup/.beelhrfo.spi':
BR0279E Return code from '/oracle/UHP/102_64/bin/sqlplus /nolog < /oracle/UHP/sapbackup/.beelhrfo.spi': 0
BR0302E SQLPLUS call for database instance UHP failed
BR0306E Start and open of database instance UHP failed
Also if i check the BRARCHIVE i see them ending with following errors in Detail Log
BR0278E Command output of 'LANG=C cd /oracle/UHP/sapreorg && LANG=C cp spaceUHP.log paramUHP.log /backup/UHPARCH//UHP':
cp: cannot create regular file `/backup/UHPARCH//UHP/spaceUHP.log': Permission denied

BR0222E Copying /oracle/UHP/saparch/archUHP.log to/from /backup/UHPARCH//UHP failed due to previous errors
Please also note that we have a Disaster Recovery Server too & the above mentioned errors are in our (Production )Primary Database & once this backu finished the DR Server stops getting any log files, this happens only when this offline backup on every friday runs,
Issues
The backup ends with errors although the backup file is generated & all data is copied
DR Server dont get redo log files after this offline backup on every fridayfor the Cp errors i will see the permissions in backup/UHP ( this error is happening in online backup ) my main concern is the error occured in offline backup as it is somehow connected with our DR SERVER NOT GETTING THE LOG FILES EVEN AFTER THE SYSTEM IS UP ( yes if the primary is down no logs will be shipped to standby i know that but even after the primary is up after a offline backup via SAP via DB 13 the standby dont get any log files unless i restart the database and SAP )
So the error in the offline backup mentioned above in my post occurred at 29 OCT 15: 45 20
BR0302E SQLPLUS call for database instance UHP failed
BR0306E Start and open of database instance UHP failed
after this my primary database comes up & sap starts but the DR server dont get any logs & also the backup logs show the above errors in red
Given below is the text from Oracle alert file for the same time duration when the system tries to start the database & the above mentioned error comes up in opening the database time Stamp : OCT 29 15: 45 20
Deprecated system parameters with specified values:
log_archive_start
End of deprecated system parameter listing
This is the only oracle alert log errors i can find relevant to database instance errors from DB 14
moreover in the alert file it also starts the data broker service relevant to i guess DR server in that all seems fine it starts everything then it gives this error & then keeps giving errors ( from oracle alert log file )
Error 12154 received logging on to the standby

Thanks for your help again i would appreciate a little more assistance on this.

Please help me -
Starting Oracle 11gr2 Im getting Error: ORA-03135: connection lost contact
Hi Guys!
Thanks for your advises. I still working toward a resolution.
But I encountered another issue from Enterp Manager :
ERROR : Please correct the following error: Connection string must be specified.
My connection has this format:
//using connection string attributes to connect to Oracle Database
con.ConnectionString = "User Id=scott;Password=tiger;Data Source=oracle";
con.Open();
Console.WriteLine("Connected to Oracle" + con.ServerVersion);
Please tell me what is wrong here. Thanks. Dan.
