  • Flex sdk 3.5.0 autocomplete

    Dear sir or madam,
We just upgraded the flex sdk 3.5.0 release. The autocomplete no longer working in flex builder. We are using flex builder eclipse plug-in 3.0.2 on Eclipse 3.4. Is this a bug or something we are missing for the installation? Thanks in advance.

How did you perform the upgrade? Following these steps worked for me in 3.0.2:
    1) Extract the SDK ZIP into a new folder
    2) Window > Preferences, Flex > Installed SDKs
    3) Add a new SDK pointing to the extracted location
This works for existing and new projects in my workspace. Do you have any errors in your log? See <workspace location>/.metadata/.log.
    Thanks,

  • Flex builder 3 debug and autocomplete problems

I have been working with Adobe Flex Builder for building Flash applications over a year. Recently I tried a few beta SDKs - 3.4 and 4.0. After playing arround with these SDKs and returning to a stable one (3.2) - Flex builder started causing some problems with autocomplete and debugging:
Autocomplete - when selecting class members from autocomplete - it usually clears all standard library import statements from the class. I started copying and remarking these import statements for retrieving them back after they are deleted.
Debug - it won't stop on most breakpoints (it used to before changing SDKs). Mostly it ignores my breakpoints.
I would love to hear any ideas about the cause and possible solution to these problems.
    Tal Yaniv

I think the problem you are experiencing is this one:
    http://subclipse.tigris.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=511
You probably have Subclipse 1.2.4 installed, which is the
latest official release. But the new release based on Subversion
1.5 has been in development for over a year. It will be version
1.4.0 and probably released next week when Subversion 1.5 is
    released.

  • Halo compatible AutoComplete TextInput for Flex 4

Is anything like this out there?  I'm looking for something simple, so far I've only found an autocomplete component which meets my main requirements, but unfortunately it adds these "bubble" graphics around the text (meant for multiple selections which I don't need).  I'm not switching to Fx 3 compat mode.  Spark autocomplete components aren't an option, this is a Halo/mx only project.

You can try our MX version:
    https://www.flextras.com/index.cfm?event=ProductHome&productID=19
Get the free developer edition to test it out.  Add the "AutoCompleteComboBoxDeveloperEdition4.swc " to the library project .  It extends the MX ComboBox; but is compiled against the Flex 4 SDK.   Be sure to set AutoCompleteEnabled to true to enable to the AutoComplete functionality.
If you have problems, let us know.( https://www.flextras.com/index.cfm?event=ContactForm ).
[We also have a Native Spark version available; if you migrate at some future point]

  • Issue with AdvancedDataGrid in Flex SDK 3.3

    Hello Forum,
I downloaded and installed Flex SDK 3.3. Once I pointed my environment to the SDK 3.3, compiler complained that it can’t find AdvancedDataGrid component in the path. After some investigation, I was able to fix this issue by downloading Flex 3.3 Data Visualization Components from http://www.adobe.com/products/flex/flexdownloads/. Then I had to unzip downloaded file into the /sdk_3.3.0_install_dir/
I don't think I had to go through this in my previous installations - 3.2 and 3.1. Does anyone know the reason for this two step download and installation?
Also, I would like to use a new Vector class in my future development, does anyone know what version of  SDK provides it?
    Much Appreciated,
    Mike

If I'm not wrong Vector is a part of Flash Player 10, so it's no related to the SDK, and also in Flex Builder you can access all the new classes that are available in FP 10 but you don't get autocompletion for those new clases if I'm not wrong.

  • NullPointerException on skinClass autocomplete in MXML, Flash Builder 4

Thanks Jason, that was the issue. I had deleted some old components but kept the skins with the reference to the deleted components in the [HostComponent] metadata tag.
I'll file the bug in jira and also copy this message to the forum. Thanks
Sounds like a bug. Can you file it at http://bugs.adobe.com/flex ?
From the looks of it, there's likely a skin file in your project with bad/missing [HostComponent] metadata and we aren't handling it properly. Do you have any custom skins?
When you file the bug, send me the link. Make sure to set a watch on the bug for status updates. Thanks.

    Hi Jason
I found your name on another thread in this forum regarding to a similar problem. I'm experiencing and issue with the skinClass autocomplete in Flash Builder 4. I contacted you directly because I read you have worked on similar issues.
The issue happens only in 1 project, in any workspace, and goes like this:
I type "sk" and hit Control+Space and get skinClass="" autocomplete and my cursor inserted between the "", but the skin matches do not pop up. If I check [workspace]/.metadata/.log, this is the error message I get: "!MESSAGE Unhandled event loop exception"
Then, if I hit Control+Space again, I get an error window with the message: "!MESSAGE "Content Assist" did not complete normally.  Please see the log for more information." and an error with: "!MESSAGE java.lang.NullPointerException"
I haven't seen this error elsewhere, I'm hoping you can give me some insight. Following goes a copy of the .log errors:

    Bug on Jira: http://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FB-27166

  • Best way to set up Eclipse + Flex 4.5 SDK?

I have followed this tutorial to set up Eclipse with the Flex 4.5 SDK. It leaves a lot to be desired.  In particular:
    * Setup is a pain and requires many steps
    * There doesn't appear to be any source code highlighting for MXML
    * There does not appear to be any AS3-specific code completion or code highlighting
    * Not much help from autocomplete.
Does anyone know of a better setup scheme for Eclipse?  If not, short of shelling out a few hundred bucks for the Adobe Flex IDE, does anyone have a really cool development environment set up for Flex 4.5 SDK?

I know this isn't the answer you're looking for, but I don't get why developers are so cheap that so many aren't willing to spend anything on tools that they likely use for hours a day almost every day. If a core productivity tool isn't worth buying, what is?  It's not like IT professionals are so poor they can't afford to spend a few hundred on decent software to do their job. Look at photography and graphic artist people over in the Photoshop forums - Photoshop-like tools are at least as (if not more) expensive than Flash Builder, and people in IT are probably earning MORE money than you do in that industry. What gives?
I mean, some devs aren't willing to spend a dime on commercial tools and so on, but then they get all upset when Adobe decides to stop or cut back on paying developers to maintain and develop stuff they've been given for free. Are most developers communists or something?
Anyway... if you're a student, I assume you can still get a Flash Builder license for free or at least at a very reduced cost.

  • Autocomplete: working funny in flash player 10

    Hi,
does anyone have any issue using the flex autocomplete component running it in flash player 10. It works great when i compile it for player 9 but acts really weird with 10. I am attaching the swf to show you whats happening.
    Thanks,
    Samina

The Flex framework does not include an AutoComplete component.  Where did you get the one you are using?
From your example, I can see that there do seem to be some oddities in the drop down display, but I can't compare it to how well it works in Flash Player 9 (I only have 10).
As a bit of self promotion, the Flextras AutoCompleteComboBox ( http://www.flextras.com/?event=ProductHome&productID=10 ) should work fine with Flash Player 10.  If you want an AutoCompleteTextInput like you have in your example, you can make the drop down arrow invisible ( http://www.flextras.com/AutoCompleteComboBox/docs/asdocs/com/flextras/autoCompleteComboBox /AutoCompleteComboBox.html#downArrowVisible )
Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you.

  • Anyone using the Adobe AutoComplete component?

I am using the auto complete component from Adobe off of the
Adobe Exchange site. I'm having an issue when I start typing some

I am using an untouched version of the code from the exchange

    http://examples.adobe.com/flex2/exchange/AutoComplete/CustomizeAutoComplete/CustomizeAutoC omplete.html

  • Classes missing from autocomplete

I'm using Eclipse with the Flex Plug-in. One of the Flex projects in my workspace suddenly no longer displays everything that should appear when the autocomplete window pops up.
For example if I want to add a VBox into an mxml file and I type the "<mx:" the autocomplete window opens but does not contain VBox. In fact most of the "standard" classes are missing. Classes such as AdvancedDataGrid and related classes and the various charting classes show up, so it appears that maybe only the Data Visualization classes are available in autocomplete for some reason.
Two other Flex projects in this same workspace do not have this problem. All the classes show up in autocomplete as expected.
I'm not sure exactly when this started. I  recently installed the Flex 3.6 SDK and reconfigured the projects to build with that (instead of 3.5 which they were previously pointed to). It may have started then, but I'm not sure. And it seems odd that it only affects one of the three projects.
    Any ideas?
    Steve

I'm actually working in Eclipse (the SpringSource Tool Suite) using the Flex Builder 3 plug-in. Restarting didn't help, nor did doing a clean and rebuild.
The project does happen to be a Flex Library but I don't believe it would qualify as a Spark only, ActionScript only or Mobile project.
However, I think I found and solved the problem.
A few weeks ago I had added a source path in Properties->Flex Library Build Path.  In the "Source Path" tab I had added the path to the "frameworks" folder of the Flex sdk that I was using in order to be able to easily open Flex source files and set breakpoints inside them (I was debugging a screwy problem with validators).
It seems that having that source path defined in the project was screwing up autocomplete. Removing the source path appears to have fixed the problem. Now all the expected classes are showing up in the autocomplete window.
It still seems odd that even with the Source Path defined the Data Visualization classes were showing up and not really anything else. But maybe that was due to the specific directory I had pointed to in the "Source Path"???

  • AutoComplete with Wildcard

    Hi,
I'm using Flex 3. I've looked at the AutoComplete component
from Adobe at the Flex exchange. It looks like it only allows
    simple auto-completion, no wildcard matching.
I am convinced that I saw such a feature somewhere, maybe in
another component. But I can't seem to find it again.
    Anybody know of something?
    Thanks!

You are right, thanks. I don't know why I initially couldn't
find the example I had seen previously. But I did find it again
    here...

  • No Design View = Time to move on from Flex?

    I love Flash/Flex.
I have been using it for a long time.  Nothing comes close to it in many was as a RIA development tool for making great cross platform apps (OSX/Windows/Linux/iOS/Android). (Not just games)
However, over the last few years as the properganda from entities that would prefer to see Flash go away, has worked well, and only the people who know flash very well are those who have stayed.. As we understand what we get with flash and how alternatives don;t compare.
Still, we are the only ones left as anyone starting out, considering the properganda, would not even consider flash anymore.
I was hoping that flash would continue on with those in the know and the advantages would continue on while the rest of the brain washed community would eventually saw, "ah! why are we not using this.." as they realise the advantages of the cross platfom that flash is king in.
(Cross platform tools will be the most important single issue as time goes on and the market fragments more and more)
As the developers that have been fathful to the technology, even tho Adobe has forsaken us..  (And paid the price with  probably the bigest reputational damage in its history) One would expect Adobe had learnt from this..
But unfortunatly not.  The drop of Design View in 4.7 is, unfortunatly, the decision that will break the developers will.  When we consider the reasons why a developer of RIA uses flex, it is the speed of developing the screens and layouts.  Design View is a key to this.  No design View = no future for the product.  Makes you wonder why they even bothered open sourcing the FLEX sdk.
Consider this.  every, EVERY... IDE,  Windows, OSX, Android Qt, etc development tool has a design view.  Without it, your nothing but a interesting technology with productivity issues that leads you to never using it.
And that is where we stand now going forward with Flash Builder...
I understand that 4.7 is likely more for the game developers and design view is less important however... read on..
We are now at the cross roads where, as some one who has been holding onto Flash as other tool sets do not compare.  Well. now they do, and in some ways even better.
This decision will likely force the bulk of those holding on of the flash life boat to swim to another.  It will be such a distastful action to actionscript developers that even the flash Gaming plaltform efforts will likely be terribly damaged if not made irrelevant.
You need a community of active developers utilsiing that technology if you plan to make it a vilable platform.  Especially for games as its so fickel.
Killing of the quiet but arguably the most lines written protion of the development base..  Custom RIA apps..  You know not what you have done.
Deisgn View does not need to do everything, but it needs to be there, so layouts are quck and easy to modify.  It needs to be supported again ASAP, or open sourced ASAP.  A decision has to be made, otherwise.
Adobe Flash team, guess you'll be moving to the HTML5 dev teams in the very near future. (Or look for a new job..)
    James

I think this has already been discussed, but I agree that dropping design view is a big problem.  There's a lot of propagandists in IT, sadly, who have ulterior motives when they discuss technologies because they want to promote their own horse in the race.  Attacking Flash (or Flex itself) was one type of dishonest behavior, but I guess another that applies to the Flex community itself was propagating the myth that "nobody uses design view", despite not having a shred of objective evidence to say this (that I've seen).  DV was the #1 thing that made FB stand out over other IDE alternatives, without it you might as well end the product line and let the current alternatives move in.
I don't think DV can be made open source for technical/legal reasons.  And to be honest, it is a bit bloated & buggy anyway, so I don't care because I think it needs a re-do.  But I do hope someone (either Apache or Adobe, although the latter is probably a fantasy) realizes that developers doing serious UI work (something more complex than a mobile phone app with 4 buttons) require some method of rapidly prototyping and visualizing their UI.  Silverlight has Expression Blend and Sketchflow, JavaFX has Scene Builder, GWT has some design tool -- Flex needs to maintain something.  Probably the main thing keeping me in the Flex realm is just a form of "vendor-lock-in" now.
Design View doesn't need to be a "design without code" solution that lets you specify every possible component attribute, align text, and specify a data source.  We can do that in MXML, and we can read ASdocs or use autocompletion just fine.  What's needed is an intuitive, fast, reasonably reliable way to visually confirm component layouts, with accurate styles, sizing and scrollbars.  The most essential user interaction is probably sizing & positioning of components and containers.  Maybe with some limited label/text setting shortcuts to help non-developer designers.  It doesn't need to be a plugin or built on Eclipse or anything overly bloated like that, a small standalone app that just does the essentials well is fine--even an AIR app.
