automate unlocking a user account by users themselves in case of the following
1. User accounts that get locked on entering a wrong password
2. User accounts that are locked due to "Inactivity End date"
2. can we write a script, to change the password of a user ? are there any functions or API avaialable ?

Are you referring to the application users? If yes, then you could use FND_USER_PKG API or FNDCPASS (FNDCPASS can only change the password).

The main itunes library is stored at users/shared/itunes, but this doesn't seem to help much. As far as I can gather, Home Sharing only works between computers, not between users on the same computer......

what should work is if the entire iTunes folder were in the shared folder and iTunes on each user account would access the same library file
launch iTunes on each user account (one at a time) while holding the option (⌥) key, click on choose library when prompted, and select the iTunes folder you copied to the shared folder.
if user A adds content, this will be available to the others immediately when they access the library, however, only one iTunes at a time can use the library. if you're using fast user switching, user A must quit iTunes before user B can fire it up.

Script/automate creating CRM user account

Is it possible to script creating a CRM (2011) user account? We want to create a CRM account for every new hire. Rather than doing it manually, if there were a Powershell script available to do the work, then we could automate it.

I'm not sure if you can create an account from the terminal that will be recognized by OS X. I don't know much about the Terminal or Unix commands, but I'm thinking you may need to restart. A user without a home directory should be able to log on; I've done that myself (on Leopard). Try adding the home directory anyway.

I dropped a user account, recreated it, and impdp data into. Howver I cant unlock the account logged in as sys.

How Win 7 automatic updates corrupts user accounts and crashes Illustrator CS5

A resolution or prevention is needed to prevent reoccurance a of new Illustrator CS5 crash: The crash apparently prevents Illustrator from reading the AGM.dll located in the Support folder when trying to open any file with Illustrator. Profounfly, reinstallation of the entire CS5, nor of just Illustrator 5, nor of just 5.1 does not correct the problem. A new user account has to be created, whcih of course requires copying all user files to the new user account if you do not want to have to log in under a different user account just to use Illustrator. Thank you, I have returned to that update setting. Knowing I am unable to determine from the update details that it is going to cause an unexpected error, I should be able to narrow down which set of updates are involved.

I was trying to login onto one of my database (Oracle Database 10g Enterprise Edition) with the system user account. I have entered the password wrong several times and the account got locked. I tried the following, I logged into the server where the database is installed and executed the following command on "sqlplus" it asked for a user name and I entered "/ as sysdba" I got the error "ORA-01031: Insufficient Privileges" I have ran out of solutions, what do I do next, please help.
Other information:
OS: MS Windows Server 2003, SP1
and I have 3 oracle databases installed

Is your OS account a member of the local group "ora_dba"?

Can't stop applications automatically starting in user account

I created accounts for each kid.
Parental control is active, but no restrictions on which applications they can use; just website restrictions and time limits.
Allowed them to modify the dock.
Each time they log in various applications automatically start and removing them from the startup list does not seem to solve the problem, and one is not even on the list.
The "re-open windows" check box is NOT selected when they log out and I watched them quit the applications before logging out.
Example: for one account iTunes Helper always shows up on the startup list... I try to remove it in their account and it just pops back up... this appears to cause iTunes to autostart each time the log in... annoying.
Example: same account, the System Preferences always start up... fortunately it is locked so the kid can modify anything. But again, annoying.
I propagated read/write permissions through their account folders (thinking maybe some settings are not being recorded)... but no luck...
I may just try to re-create their accounts but was hoping to find the answer to this most perplexing issue.

Aha! Even though they had permission to read/write their files, apparently the ownership was not theirs on all of the files, this must have restricted the mods to their account.

Background:
This permission state stemmed from a full re-build/re-store I did about a year ago when the hard drive crashed (with encrypted files in the my account, no less)... The backups were out of date (long story) and it took about a week to recover and re-assemble the sparsebundle bands from the broken drive (I only lost 12 pictures!... Disk Warrior really helped with that one!)... anyway I managed to install a new drive and re-stored all of the accounts, but apparently some of the library states had me as the owner... If I think long enough I probably remember how that happened.

Hi All,
Is there a way, using group policy or any other method to automatically disable a user account if it hasnt been used (ie,, no has logged on using that account) after a certain amount of days??
This is something I would like to apply enterprise wide, so setting expiry dates on each users object is out, and obviously I only want to apply this to inactive accounts.

There is no such profile option. However, you can write a code to check LAST_LOGON_DATE in FND_USER table and based on this you can disable/lock the account.

How to unlock user account in Windows Server 2003

I want to unlock a user account in Windows Server 2003.
I have read a great post at http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=716240&start=0&tstart=0
But I can not get it to work. According to the post the only thing you need to do is:
"+to unlock an account, just set the value of the attribute lockoutTime to zero+".
When I set lockoutTime to zero nothing happens. The user can still not logon.
When I read the lockoutTime attribute for an account that is locked it is empty or zero if I have tried to unlock it earlier.
So it doesn´t seem to change when the account is locked.

As Sagar suggested, you could -
(1) write a task "Unlock AD account" - write code to unlock an user account in AD. Check if any such task is existing in the connector. You might be able to reuse it. If not, write your own task for this purpose.
(2) Based on your implementation, choose "Changed Password" or "Password Updated" task in your process definition. And on success of this task, add "unlock AD account" task to invoke.
(3) "self-management account unlock" will work automatically as soon as a user will reset his password. You don't have to implement anything else here.

10g Database SYSTEM user account unlock

I wish to permanently unlock my SYSTEM user account. I have tried:
alter user SYSTEM identified by xxx account unlock;
After running the command I can logon successfully one time to the SYSTEM account then it is automatically locked again. The next time I try to logon I have to unlock the account again.
How can I make the unlock permanent?

1. Modify the password used by oraperf.dll
The 10g Windows documentation informs customers to run a tool called operfcfg to change the password.
To set the system password, enter the following: operfcfg.exe -U SYSTEM -P password -D TNS_ALIAS_FOR_DDATATBASE

NOTE: This step should only be performed by knowledgable Windows System Administrator's:

Windows 7 user account is automatically locked every so often

On Friday I changed the password to access to my user account (Win7 runs below Windows 2008 Operative Server). At short time I changed it, after I have entered in the account with my new password, the account was locked unexplainably. I unlocked it again,
and again at a short time the account was locked again automatically.
I dont know what`s going on.
Anybody knows why happens this?

I dont think there is a scheduled task, at least I am not consciously , ( I have also the role of the netowrk administrator).
Reading other threads I was afraid of Conficker worm has infected the server, but is issue only happens to me from the last Friday, never happened to me before.
I also have searched out, the event viewer of the Server, going to the Security log and filter by ID: 644, but there is no record of locked account showed, it seems that by that part everything is ok.
Is there any other audit application, that can show me where is the problem focused when the account is locked suddenly?

Lync 2013 client is deployed but user accounts are not migrated from OCS to Lync 2013 Server - how to open Lync meetings automatically in the Lync Web Plug-in

We have in our enterprise the following scenario:
1 - Lync 2013 client is installed
2 - User accounts are not migrated to Lync 2013 Server, users are using Office Communicator as their main tool
3 - Users receive Lync 2013 meeting requests but when try to access them, Lync 2013 client launches and shows error. Users will need to open the browser and paste the URL to the address bar but this still open
4 - We cannot use the workaround of adding "?SL=1" to the Lync 2013 meeting URL as the user base is large and manual workaround is not accepted
5 - Question: is there any automated way, via egistry key or GPO setting, so that users temporarily (until their accounts are migrated to Lync 2013 server) can bypass Lync 2013 client completely and automatically open all Lync 2013 meetings
on the browser, using Lync Web Plug-in?

First, I should have mentioned clearly that users have Office Communicator 2007 client and Lync 2013 client installed in their machines. Their accounts are not migrated yet to Lync 2013 server.
Second, we are using IE9 and IE10. The issue is that users CAN join Lync 2013 meetings with their browsers but have to paste the URL manually to browser and add "?SL=1" otherwise, if they just click at the "Join Online Meeting" or "Join
Lync Meeting" URL it launches Lync 2013 client which shows error because is not configured yet, as they are using OCS client and migrating slowly to Lync 2013 server.
Is there a Group Policy setting or a registry key from Microsoft that can be turned on to these users machines and make will all Lync meeting requests to be opened in IE browser instead of Lync 2013 client. We need a way to ignore
Lync 2013 client until user accounts are migrated to Lync 2013 Server. Manually typing URLs is not an option in a big organization, can't explain thousands of users of different levels what to do.
We are regretting the decision not to separate Lync 2013 from Office 2013 package we deployed recently. If Lync 2013 is uninstalled then all Lync meeting requests are opened in browser without an issue.
