Automated area-sizing
When using HTML and CSS you can automate the size of an "area" of the page
an "area" is classed as a DIV and you automate it by setting its height and/or width to auto (usually height only with width given a fixed size)
in adition you can set the DIVs overflow parameter
this is vital for CMS managed websites
does flash have any simple functions for achieveing the same result?
or
if i used flash with a CMS system would i need use AS3 to calculate the total height and width of all child objects and set this number as the height and width of the pearent object? (with HTML/CSS i would use javascript to do this)
You cannot dynamically resize the dimensions of the Flash file's stage if that is what you are asking.

Why does folio size remain same when images are sized down?
In the constant battle to keep the folio size down, I found and eliminated a stray print-size image (40mb) and replaced it with a 2mb file however my folio is still claiming the same size when I see the update come in. Any idea out there why a folio will hang on to its size in this case.
Thanks in advanceBecause we automatically resize the images to 108ppi at the pixel dimensions of the containing frame. A 40MB print image doesn't pass through to the folio as 40MB. It'll get sampled down.

My document is currently 10 pages. There are 5 different sizes of the pages. They all have the same master page applied to them. When I go to insert a new page and/or duplicate a page...it screws up where the master layout goes. Surely there is simple way to do this??
For example:
These pages are all inserts for a sales folder.
Pages 7 and 8 are sized at 8.5" w X 10.25" h. Pages 9 and 10 are sized at 8.5" w X 11" h.
I need to duplicate page 8 and have it go between 8 and 9 and it needs to be sized like pages 7 and 8 (or 8.5" w X 10.25" h)
When I go to to do this, it screws up the master page layout for the remaining pages of the document.
I have tried several ways to do this. Can anyone help??

Mc-icons not sized correctly in Internet Explorer
The file icons used by Sun One Web Server 6.1 (/mc-icons) to indicate file types do not display correctly when a directory does not have an index or default file, and the web server automatically creates an index that includes these icons and shows the directory contents. The icons representing the files appear correctly sized in Netscape Navigator 4.7 browser, but appear to shrink beyond visible resolution in Internet Explorere 6.0 browser. Fancy indexing (common) is being used. Platform is Windows 2000 Server, also running SSL3 and ColdFusion 7.0. How can we get the icons to display at a visible size in Internet Explorer? The result appears to the user as if the icon graphics are missing, but they are indeed called correctly by the page and the path to them is set correctly. I have verified that the graphics are OK on the server and are sized correctly when viewed in an image editor.
Are you sure the problem is the size of the icons? Beginning with version 6.0.2900.2190, Microsoft Internet Explorer stopped displaying the Web Server /mc-icons GIFs. This regression was apparently a side effect of Microsoft's attempts to fix IE's handling of malicious image files.
Apart from not using the buggy versions of IE, I'm not aware of a simple fix. I suspect a future Web Server 6.1 service pack will include a work around for the IE bug, but probably not until 6.1SP7.
I've added tweaked icons to my blog at http://blogs.sun.com/elving?entry=directory_listing_icons_and_ie that IE will display properly. You may wish to copy these into your ns-icons directory. -
Automator opens instead of application
I can't find anything on the forum regarding this:
-I have never opened Automator.
-I have no need for Automator.
-Trying to open InDesign application directly opens Automator instead.
-I can open InDesign ONLY through opening an InDesign file.
-The preferences in Automator are greyed out.
-Two applications sit in the OS 9 applications folder and InDesign resides in the OSX app. folder.
-I have InDesign 2.0.2 and the other applications are old also.
-I haven't had this problem until this week.
Does this have anything to do with the latest update per chance? Is there a solution for this? I have even reinstalled InDesign with all its updates and it still keeps happening. the 'GetInfo' dialogue box shows that the application should be opened with Automator. Changing that doesn't work and I have never seen an application have an option actually set to be opened with anything. No other applications have this option except three - which are all older.

Tip: How to export WITH volume and pan automation
It is astonishingly simple and I am probably not the first to think of this (...): Do not automate the volume fader and the panpot *on the track*, but insert a Gain plugin and automate its' gain and balance parameters. Those automations will be used when exporting.
If the instrument has a master volume, you can also automate that, and the same goes when an instrument has a master pan setting. If you automate those, it will be exported.

Err... no, wrong... I am referring to Exporting (regions, tracks & all tracks) only. As a default, Volume and Pan Automation are not included when Exporting. Send -, Plug In -, Solo - and Mute automation are included. Some people have asked about that in the past, and it can be handy in specific situations. That's all.

Photoshop sequences not sized appropriately when dragging to main sequence
I am working with photoshop layers in a sequence, which I am bringing into the main sequence. When I size them in the viewer and apply wireframe motion to them, they play just fine (and look fine) in that sub-sequence.
When I move that sequence from the viewer into the main sequence, they are totally oversized. I have configured each window (viewed and canvas) "fit to window". They move off the window in the main sequence but in the photoshop sequence, they are sized properly.
I have tried resizing them in the main sequence but it doesn't seem to work unless you resize in the sub-sequence first.
Please help....I have been pulling out my hair on this and even set up a ProCare with the local Apple FCE expert. They couldn't help.

Your PSD sequence is much larger, and the wrong aspect ratio, compared to your video. It bears no resemblance to it. You're make a very large sequences, making your animation in it, and placing in inside a much smaller sequence. The two don't match at all. Fit to window is not relevant. The PSD window is based on an image 1150x1718, and that's the Canvas the PSD sequence uses. Your edited sequence is 720X480 and that's its Canvas size. Fit to window just means make the Canvas display fit the size of the window you've create for it in the application. It doe not scale the images to fit the Canvas.
I don't know exactly what you're doing, but it would be easier for you if you made the images the right size in Photoshop to start with. Or you could copy and paste from inside the PSD sequence into the edited sequence, which will automatically scale the material to fit the window, and you can animate the layers in the edited sequence. This may or may not work for you depending on your material. -
Hardware Sizing for EBP, MDM Catalog

This is for an SRM implementation project in extended classic scenario. The plan is to use all 3 components EBP, MDM Catalogs and SUS.
We are sizing hardware for a mid size company with around 10,000 employee base and USD 350 million of spend to be processed. With not more than 50.000 (X) Purchase orders annually, and therefor assumed Goods confirmation document and invoices to be 100.000 (2X).
We are using Quicksizer tool for sizing. Here are some of the areas which we need to validate-
1. Is there a benchmark or a recommended or empirical percentage (%) of total employee strength that will be concurrent users.
2. What can be the SAPS number range for EBP for a typical mid size company as described above. Any experience with respect to this would be helpful.
3. Quicksizer doesnt suppoer MDM catalog sizing. Any inputs on the same would be useful.
4. We are using EBP sizing template in quicksizer for SUS sizing with object data with respect to SUS. Is this the right approach.

Events and Jeopardies problems in manual and automated task
Hi all,
I have an automated task that has an event in receive state and an internal Xquery automator. The event takes information from de order and send it to a specific queue, then the automator updates the orders to indicate that the information was sent.
I have noticed that sometimes the update automator is executed first that the event so when the event executes can not find information to send to the queue.
If a the event is in receive state, why the automator is running first? what type of automator are accepted for each task state?
Another problem is with Jeopardies in a manual task. In it i have an automator that complete the task to a specific state. The Jeopardy is executed but the task is not completed by the state defined?
are there any restrictions to Jeopardies in manual tasks?

I am not sure whether I understood completely. Lemme try to answer your 2 questions.

Ans : As you have defined the event on the "Receive" state of an automation task, it will be the event gets executed first. Basically during execution of any order, when you hit submit in the CreationTask, automatically next task will be loaded and its task state will be in Recieve state irrespective of Task type like Automated or Manual. That is why when loading the next task, the task will be in received state and the automator runs first.
If you want fire the event on different task state like "Accepted" or "Completed" you might have to change the event type.

Ans: As you said, Jeopardy is getting executed in the manual task correctly. Also you are expecting that the task should be completed along with jeopardy. But as the task type itself is a Manual Task, one has to manually open the order in worklist and make it proceed to next task. No plugins will make a Manual task to complete. Automation Plugins can be completed using the plugins.

Archived logs are 5MBish when the ORL is 10mb !
version: 10.2.0.4/RHEL 5.4
In our DB the Online Redo Logs are sized 10mb
SQL> select group#, bytes/1024/1024 from v$log;

3 10But the archived redo logs are of size around 5mb.As you can see from the file sizes below, manual log switch/archiving is not happening.

Any help?First off, it's entirely possible that there are just three of you in the country having the problem; Idiosyncratic problems do occur, you know. The three places I would look first with automator are:
Preference files. Keep in mind that individual actions sometimes keep their own preferences files, and any one of those can cause issues if it's corrupt.
old third-party actions (stored in ~/Library/Automator/). Because of automator's plug-in nature, a third-party action that is broken under mountain lion could conceivably crash automator.
auto-opened windows. if you have the 'restore windows' option turned on in System Preferences -> General, and automator is trying to reopen a window that contains a corrupt workflow, that could bollix things too. try turning that option off to see what happens.
also - FYI - this is a volunteer forum. I suspect some of the people who hang out here are Apple employees, but they are not here *as* Apple employees, if you follow me. -
Just a quick question on Photoshop Actions.
Does anyone know if theres any plans to incorporate Actions into Lightroom ? It would be great if there were Actions or Macros to speed up repetitive tasks.I think the most important question here is Rob's: "What would be your first macros/actions if such feature was supported?"
Because Lightroom already automates corrections, but in a different (and sometimes better) way than Photoshop. For example, in Photoshop you might use an action to record a string of adjustments to contrast, local contrast, curves, cropping, and lens correction. That could be a pretty long action. But in Lightroom, all you have to do is make a single preset and when you do, all of those steps are applied in one instant instead of having to wait for many Photoshop action steps to complete. Same with exporting: In Photoshop, making an output-specific version can mean recording a lot of steps for resizing, color conversion, sharpening, etc. But since Lightroom lets you save all those as an Export Preset, once again it only takes an instant to apply it. So a lot of times, automating is actually easier and faster in Lightroom.
What kind of automation are you after? Is it something that Lightroom presets haven't been able to cover? -
Help With Automating Photoshop Tasks
My company Mid South Sports Media works with a number of Mixed Martial Arts fight promoters and we provide a service to them where we set up a laptop, several printers and a photo booth and offer photographs taken with UFC stars like Tito Ortiz and others. We call this Fan-Photos.
We design and use specific templates in Photoshop CS4 for use at these fight events. They become the boarders for the photos we take with fans of the fighters.
Our current booth setup and workflow at these events goes like this:
We set up a photo booth with studio strobe lights, a backdrop and a Canon digital camera connected by a USB cable to our laptop. We use the software provided by the camera manufacturer (Canon) to remote operate the camera and view the resultant image on a second large screen monitor.
At the same time we have our laptop and photoshop up and running with our event template.
Fans stand in line to have a photo made with a MMA star,
They pay for a photo, step up and we take the photo with the MMA star,
Here is where my macro question comes into play...
1. After the fan-photo is taken and appears in a folder on the large screen monitor,
2. We have to drag that photo over to the laptop screen into photoshop into a seperate artboard,
3. We then have to reposition the artboard so that we can drag the photo into our template and position the photo under the boarders template layer,
4. Then we have to start the print sequence to output the image to the printer,
5. Then we have to drag the photo (not the template just the photo taken) to the trash bin to start the sequence all over again with the next customer.
Is there a way of designing a macro that will automatically do steps 2 - 5 and it operate quicker than our booth operator can do it.
Any assistance would appriciated because we know little about macros.

• Scripting is used where there are variables (things that need to be done DIFFERENTLY depending on the source images) - complex image specific calculations. Or complete workflows set up.
• Actions (automation) are used where a series of predictable steps can be recorded. These are extremely versatile, for example its possible to automate such things as copy and pasting between documents (which you will probably need to do), repositioning of items, color correction, rescaling. Playback is also faster using Actions.
From your description it sounds like a job for Actions not scripts. Its quite difficult to tell from what you have said, and you need to be more specific, not referring to things like 'monitors' and 'laptops'. These are things that you will have to work out as part of your own wokflow. Now, scripting your PC's to open the correct files, ot move them across the network MAY be a part of the process thats true, but its unlikely that you will have much use for Photoshop scripting here. Opening specific files (for example your 'template' file) can all be done using Actions. Actions are also easier to edit and to work with.
drag the photo (not the template just the photo taken) to the trash bin
to start the sequence all over again with the next customer.
One piece of advice, which I hope you will take seriously - best to NEVER delete your source images, you never know when they will be needed. Better to move them to a sub folder on an external drive maybe. -

The iPad is a computer and a very good one at that. You can mix and match syncing from both an iPhone and an iPad, but you will need another computer or Mobile me to achieve it.
iPhone apps will synch to iPad but not necessarily the other way around. Many apps that came over via the iPhone are sized incorrectly because of the screen size. Some have a 2x zoom, but the resolution is poor.
