Automatic generation of serial numbers on production (manufactured) items

Scenario:
A company manufactures a specific product from a production BOM. On completion of the production order, each physical item requires a serial (incrementing each time for that Item Code) and batch number (relating to the date manufactured) assigned to it and a serial number sticker printed for each product on completion of the production order before the units go in to stock.
Would this be possible in SBO?

Now as far as my understanding you want series number <product type identifier><Unique Serial> so it should be NOTEBOOK /296333.

1.     FOR this you can give the series number to parent item that is 1GB RAM 80 GB HDD    PC not to the CPU ,KEY BOARD ,MONITOR etc like give the series like PC /80000
2.     FOR another PC give it like PC/1800000 ( I am giving it according to the HDD of PC)
3.     FOR 1 GB RAM 180 HDD        NOTEBOOK /18000000
4.     For 1 GB RAM 120 HDD        NOTEBOOK / 1200000
5.     For 3 GB RAM 350 HDD       NOTEBOOK / 350000

I think you want according to type , like for all PC you want PC/1200000 and so on

But it is not possible to set it by item group vise or for a group of item same running series Numbering series and batch number is purely according to item vise that is this is available in item master data not in item group , you have to do it manually or by checking the last series make the next of it in series of that item or u can give what ever you want and then manage it in serial number management and serial number details . please check it .

I'm using this way to do you suggested me.. but the problem is this:
For ex:
Prod. order A
Quantity of prod. order = 100
Quantity already confirmed 50
I have to put in warehouse only 5 finished prducts, but when I use migo 101 for a GR, the system proposes to me 100 serial numbers from which I can select 5 sn; next time whene I have to select 5 others serial numbers, the system proposes to me all the 100 serial numbers again..
I'd like to find a way to eliminate from the serial numb. list in migo 101 the sn that I've already selected before.
For this I can force the storage to "blank" in the list selection, but if another production order B, for the same material exists, how can I know which of those serial numbers belongs to the order A and which to the order B?

Normally must register an AppleCare plan before the original warranty on the Mac expires. If you have problems registering the AppleCare plan for your MacBook, call Apple tech support and ask to be connected to AppleCare Plan Adminstration.

Control of serial numbers in productions (parts and final product serials)

We are starting using our production module in SBO 9.0 PL11 and it is all quite messy.
We need to manufacture an item that has a serial number made of parts, some of which have serial numbers. Just imagine a car. The car will have its own serial number, but the engine, the radio and so on will have their own serial numbers. But the cables, tyres, etc do not have a serial of their own.
We set a BOM model, made of every part (with or without serial) and set every line to manual.
Then we place a PO for our parts, and then do a Goods Receipt and enter the individual items' serials.
Then, we issue a Production order for our final product made of all of our parts in the BOM. Then we release it for production.
Next, it all gets messi. If we create a receipt from production, we can issue the serial number of each of our final products.
If we create an Issue for Production, we can choose what serials to pick for production.
Big problem is that we loose all traceability. There is no way (or we can't find it) to know what are the serials of the parts that created the final product.
Not only this, issue for production looks (serial number transaction report-wise) looks like a goods issue, so just a way to decrease your parts stock. And receipt of production looks like a goods receipt. So you just now you received something for production or that you issued it to production, but there doesn't seem to be a link between them. No traceability at all.
Can anyone throw some light into this? I am sure we are doing something really wrong, but can't see what.

1. But how do we control what serial numbers for each part we used to create the final product specific serial? (I use engine #003 and radio #376) to create product with serial #076. And we always produce in quantities greater than 1.

3. It sounds really complicated to have to open both receipt and issue to track a single manufacturing operation.
You can use relationship map option to view both issue and receipt for single production.
4. Besides that, what is the exact workflow? I don't quite understand issue and receipt, should I run both independently?
Standard work flow for production order:
1. Create bill of material
2. Create planned production order based on above BOM
3. Make sure required components are arrived.
4. Change planned to released status.
5. Issue components to production by issue production
6. Receive finished item from production through receipt from production.

Automatic generation of serial number at time of goods receipt.

reqirement is like that-- my client wants to generate the serial no. of material automatically during goods reciept,
After generation of serial no. by the system the same material will be send to subcontracting vendor by serial no wise.
when we take the migo of the same material(return from vendor) serial no should be generated automatically and with reffernce to this serial number material will be sale.
pls provide me some input regarding customization and business process.

Use t.code: OIS2, Create Serial Number Profile Z100( Copying from 0001)& have serialization procedure(MMSL) in it. And assign Serial no. profile Z100 to a material in plant Data/Stor-2 view in general plant parameter segment.
Now create PO with that material and then during GR for that material, you are able to enter serial number in u201CSerial numbersu201D TAB in Detail data and select check box of Create Serial Nos Automatically & post GR document. Now go back and display material document in MIGO and can see serial numbers in u201CSerial numbersu201D TAB in Detail data.

Update Serial Numbers to Production Order

Hi,
Has anyone used any Function module for updating the Serial Numbers to the Production Order Header. I am using the FM - SERNR_ADD_TO_PP . The Serial Numbers needs to be assigned when doing Goods Issue in MIGO. At this point The FM is updating the Serial Numbers to Order but it is putting it in Status PMP1.
Once the Status is PMP1 it prevents anymore Serial Number update to the same production order using the same Function module. This is preventing us from doing partial Goods Issue in MIGO.
Is there any more Function Module that can be used to updating the Serial Nos in the Production Order.

SERIAL NUMBERS IN PRODUCTION ORDERS

I am entering the serial number manually at the time of Production Order Creation . For Order1 i have entered the serial number as ABC1 and for the next order i enter the same serial number it is allowing . so my requirements is system should not aloow to accept the same serial number which i have entered earlier .

This is the standart behaviour of SAP and you have to write a control in a user exit. In exit EXIT_SAPLIPW1_004, you can check if the serial numbers are already created, or used in a prodcution order before. You must join tables SER05 and OBJK to query assignment in a production order.

You need to first create a Numebr range object, to create a Number range object goto SNRO transaction code. so here you will generate a Number range object, then in the Program call the NUMBER_GET_NEXT then evey time if you call this number it will give the next number ...

Can anyone tell me the table in which the serial numbers are stored for the production orders? I have created a production order and have assigned serial numbvers to it. Now I want to extract these serial numbers from the table.

In table SER05, the list of serial number details can be obtained.key the order noin ser05 table, get field OBJKNR, then pass this OBJKNR in table OBJK .
Some useful table for serial numbers
SER00 Generic table for serial numbers
SER01 Serial numbers assigned to a delivery
SER02 Serial numbers assigned to a guarentee
SER03 Serial numbers assigned to a material document
SER04 Serial numbers assigned to an inspection lot
SER05 Serial numbers for a production order
SER06 Serial numbers for Handling Units
SER07 Serial numbers for Stocktaking
SER08 serial numbers for Orders (SD)
The assignment of serial numbers to a production order can be done either via transaction CO02 or at the latest when the GR from Production is made.

Upload serial numbers for an existing item

Hi,
I'm having some problems trying to upload 880 serial numbers using DTW.
Basically, we have created a purchase order for these 880 items under a similar item code. I am managing this item using a serial number on every transaction in SBO.
I have been reading differents threads and using the oInventoryGenEntry with the 3 documents as follow

When I do the upload using DTW, the import is done successfully, however I can not find any serial numbers under my item code, nothing is done in SBO.
Could someone help me please.

If you use this template, you are creating Goods Receipt, not Goods Receipt PO. The later is by oPurchaseDeliveryNotes
Two problems at least if you need Goods Receipt:
1. Date format has to be yyyymmdd.
2. DocEntry should be empty.

Get Serial Numbers of a line item in a material document

Hello everyone!
My requirement goes like this: For a material document, if a material code is serialized, I will also need to retrieve the corresponding serial numbers listed in the material document. Is there a function module or table that I can use to connect the serial numbers to the material code? If for example in matdoc 0001, material x1 the serial numbers are 1 and 2, then in matdoc 0002, material x2 the serial numbers are 3 amd 4. when I retrieve the details of matdoc 0001, I will only get serial numbers 1 and 2, not 1,2,3 and 4.
Please help... points for any helpful answer.

Serial Numbers for products purchased in Mac App Store

How do I find the serial number for my Adobe product that I purchased from the Mac App store? I've reviewed the FAQ, help, and forums, but can't find an answer specific to products purchased from Mac App store. I bought Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 Editor. I want to register it with Adobe but I need the serial number. It is nowhere to be found.

Hi. Soooo, I did contact them, because the first Adobe customer service person I chatted with told me to contact them. I sent a message to Apple support and told them that I purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 from the Mac App Store, aaaaaand they told me to contact Adobe. I'm going in circles!
Apple support said that the only thing I could do was "redownload the program" and "see if it asks me for the serial number" this time. They had no idea where to tell me to look for the serial number. Incidentally, there's technically no "download" option when you purchase from the Mac App store. After you click "buy," the option that displays is simply "install." So you click on that and the program installs. When it's finished, you can launch the program and, when you do, it just opens like normal. There is no prompt to register the product or enter the serial number. But I want to register my product with Adobe.com so I can be sure to get updates on it.
Incidentally, I also already checked out the links you provided (which I did indicate in my original message). There is nothing there that gives any guidance whatsoever on where to find the serial number for a product purchased from the Mac App store. The closest option is the "store download" option, but those guidelines tell you to enter the redemption code. I was never given a redemption code. I simply clicked "buy" and then "install" and - poof! - the program was loaded on to my MacBook Pro.
Surely i am not the only person who has ever purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 Editor from the Mac App store. There HAS to be someone who knows what to do here.

Label printing for serial numbers out of production order

Dear PP experts,
according to the standard help description, it should be possible to
print a label with barcode for each serial number generated for production order when printing shop floor papers.
As for the standard set up, the following forms are assigned for
production order object, where none of them seems to be a label type.

none of them is designed for label printing. Does anyone know

Hi,
The process of scanning barcodes and label printing :
First u have to define the output type which has tobe attached with or linked to a "form" or "Smart Form" which displays a label layout.Through ABAP coding u have to link the object (any of the mentioned by u) with the "form or smart form".
So as u scan the barcode with serial number the label gets printed at the required stage of production order processing.
This includes the pure Technical stuff of coding.

Database Design: table to enter product serial numbers

I'm developing a database for invoice details. The data also includes product serial number. I have an Invoice table, Products table and InvoiceProducts table- to normalise the many to many relationship of Invoice and products. I can't enter the serial numbers in the InvoiceProducts table since this will mention the quantity of a particular product in the invoice. Please can you advise how/where I can enter the serial number details. what is the industry practise for storing invoice informatioin.

I'm not sure about adding serial numbers in products table since I want it to be a generic table for all products recorded from different invoices. I would want serial numbers to be invoice-product specific but again Im not sure how I can add serial numbers to the InvoiceLineItem table since invoiceID and productID cant be represented as composite Primary keys in that case. Also, I plan to have a column for number of units in the InvoiceLineItem table.
Can I introduce a serial number column in the InvoiceLineItem table and separate all the serialnumbers using a separator like comma?Will I compromise on atomicity of the serial number?If I include serial number column in the InvoiceLIneItem table... I can have composite key for InvoiceID, ProductNumber and serialNumber or will it mean redundant invoice and product details for every row of serial number
The application essentially records all the details from a printed copy of Invoice onto the database through manual entry.
Please can you help me getover this...

Use
When carrying out the final backflush, a specific serial number is assigned to materials which require a serial number.
You can only assign serial numbers to assemblies, not to the individual components of an assembly.
Prerequisites :
1.You must have defined that the material requires a serial number by selecting the serial number profile in the material master record (sales view).
In Customizing for Sales and Distribution, you must define how the serial number is to be assigned in the serial number profile for the serialization procedure PPSF (Serial Numbers in Repetitive Manufacturing):
Automatic
Mandatory entry
Optional entry
Features
When backflushing a material that is to be assigned a serial number, the following functions are carried out depending on the settings in Customizing:
*Assigning serial numbers automatically :
In this setting, the serial number is automatically assigned by the system in the final backflush using the settings in the serial number profile.
Serial numbers as a mandatory entry :
With this setting, when saving the final backflush, the system displays the dialog box entitled Maintain Serial Numbers where you have to enter a serial number. The goods receipt cannot be posted if you do not enter a serial number.
Here, you can enter a serial number manually or you can instruct the system to search for the next free serial number and assign it to the material. In this case, choose Create serial no. automatically.
Serial numbers as an optional entry :
With this setting, when saving the final backflush, the system displays the dialog box entitled Maintain Serial Numbers where you can enter a serial number.

The system displays a list of the backflushing logs.
Double-click the required document number.
The system accesses the overview display of the document.

In the detailed display, choose, Goto ® Serial number.
The system displays the dialog box, Display Serial Number.
Displaying and changing serial numbers:
Starting from the main Repetitive Manufacturing menu, you can display, or change a certain serial number. In the SAP menu, choose Logistics ® Production ® Repetitive manufacturing ® Master data ® Serial numbers ® Display or Change.
Creating, displaying, and changing serial numbers collectively :
Starting from the main Repetitive Manufacturing menu, you can create, display or change serial numbers collectively. To do this, choose Logistics ® Production ® Repetitive manufacturing ® Master data ® Serial numbers ® List editing ® Create or change or display.
