Automatic hyphens missing in print

I design a quarterly newsletter using InDesign CS4 6.0.6, output to press quality PDFs. My client informed me that in the last two newsletters, hyphens are missing randomly in some of the stories. Even on the same page, one column has them and the next doesn’t.
The prepress guy says that indeed they are missing on his internal proof via a production laser printer and of course on his plate maker, but they do appear in the PDF. He paginates by bringing my PDF into ID CS2 and outputs from there (seems convoluted).
We’ve been doing this newsletter and many other projects without a problem for many years.
Any idea where to look?

I think somebody needs to move into this century. If he can't RIP the PDF you send to him, find out why.

Updated to latest I-Tunes. Since then whenever I import a new cd to the library it won't get album artwork.How do I get the artwork. My I-Tunes is set to automatically download missing album artwork but it doesn't work.

Can I automate the process of printing booklet?
I use a saved Print Preset named "A5 booklet"
I supply page range 1-16 then print as pdf using PDFCreater.
File Name as 01.pdf, then pages 17-32 as 02.pdf and so on.
I am aware that InDesign provides printBooklet() method through scripting, but I have no clues how to use it.
Any links or scripts are welcome.

Imported image missing on print

hi, i'm getting complaints from clients that imported images on pdfs (distilled from illustrator) appear on view but are missing on printed layouts. the images appear when i print from my epson and hp bxw laser printer so i have no idea what the problem is. can someone shed some light on this subject? thanks very much.

Do you provide the image file separately? If not, that might be the problem.
Sure the file is smaller. It doesn't include the honking humongous image data. Embed it. You have to provide the data in any event, and you might as well make it part of the layout so that it doesn't get separated.
More to the point, there are several good reasons to use 'save as PDF' rather than printing to the Adobe PDF virtual printer or distilling via an EPS. Might want to look up papers written by Adobe scientist Dov Isaacs on this subject.

How to use GREP to find one particular word with automatic hyphen?

I know I have in my text a word with automatic hyphen on the end of line, say Wo-rd.

I think you might do better to edit the hyphenation in the Dictionary.
One reason words hyphenate incorrectly is the wrong language has been applied. Both spell checking and hyphenation rules are governed by the language selected for the text, and language is a character-level attribute so that you can select inidvidual words and assign a different language to them if you like.
If that's the probelm here, you can look for the word using find/change (without worying about the hyphen) and change the language for all instances.
In either case you will be far better off fixing the problem on a global scale in the document than you will be finding a particular instance of that word at the end of a line. Any editing you do in the future may cause the problem to reappear somewhere else.

One Column missing during print functionality

Issue 1:
. When i am openning that report and Clicking the print image its printing but last column is missing means width problem. How to automatically compressed so that all columns should display.
Issue2: Subject is header column in which we can enter 10 lines or more and so i have put the scroll bar . when i am enetering 10 lines and giving print functionality then top 3 lines get printed bcz remaining are not visisble to printer. So Is any one have ideay how to print all the 10 lines.

You can try following steps,
1) Goto transaction SPAD and create Page formate according to your requirement.
2) Create format and copy action from standard format.
3) create device type
4) assign that device type to custamize output type.
When ever you take print out of that ALV use your custamize Output Type

Automatic Goods Reciept label printing issue

HI All,
we are facing some issues while printing goods receipt label. Please check below steps which we already performed.
1. Basis team has already set up new printer Q534 in SPAD transaction.
2. Then we maintain printer determination parameter with combination of output type/plant 5055 /storage location 0001/usergroup/ device
3. We maintaned condition record through MN14 for th plant 5055.
so when we post goods receipt then it should go for Automatic label printing. In SP01 we are not able to see any request.
Kindly suggesst if any config is missing.
Also suggest in condition record, do we need to maintain anything under the COMMUNICATION tab.

Hi Guys,
Today I created one PO in test system and GR posted then I checked Spool request SP01 but due to this GR posted, it showing the spool request only for GR slip but not for label print.
GR slip print showing correctly because in OMJ3 tcode WA condition type maintained for the plant 5055 and Sloc 0001against the printer Q532
Now I maintained label print condition type ZLBL in Tcode OMJ3 for the plant 5055 and Sloc 0001 against the printer Q534 but after GR posting, the lable print spool request did not generate.
In sp01 we can see only GR slip print request for the printer Q532 not for label print
Kindly suggesst how can we determine the printer (spool request generate) for the label print for the printer Q534

Reason and Prerequisites
When printing from B1 to a dot matrix printer using custom sized paper, it is necessary to configure the system to use a custom paper size and fit the print layout accordingly.
Solution
1. Verify that the printer is running the latest drivers from the printer manufacturer's website.
2. Verify that the driver being used can support the custom sized paper.
3. Define a custom paper size in each workstation running B1.
            a) Go to Start -> Settings -> Printer and Faxes.
            b) Under the Printer and Faxes window go to 'File' and choose 'Server Properties' from the menu.
            c) In the 'Print Server Properties' choose to create a new form. In the lower part of the window, define the custom paper size e.g. 11.50 inch width, 8.50 inch length.
            d) Give the form an appropriate name, i.e. 11.5WX8.5L and press the 'Save Form' button.
            e) Click OK to close the window.
4. Open B1, go to 'file' choose 'Page Setup'. Next choose the desired printer and the custom paper size that was defined earlier e.g. 11.5WX8.5L.
5. Open the desired layout designer and from the 'Print Layout Designer' menu, choose 'Display Document Property'.
6. Under the 'Display Document Property' window, choose the 'Paper Format'tab and define the custom paper size.
   (Notice the width and height should automatically change, once the modified paper is chosen).
7. Save all changes in the layout. Verify that it is set as default layout and print the desired document.
8. The print layout should fit the new custom paper size that was defined in B1.

Fields missing while printing crystal reports !!

Hello everyone
I have a crystal report application in VB.NET 2005, which gets the values of a field from the database and supports printing of the report in the following formats
1. pdf
2. directly to a printer - printout
When i export the report using reportdocument to pdf , all the fields are getting printed : Normal - As expected
But when i print the report directly using PrintToPrinter method,i am not able to print some of the fields. i.e some of the entries are missing in that report printout
Can someone guess what could be the problem ???
Are there any limitations / preconfigurations that needs to be done apart from setting page size,margin before using the PrintToPrinter method

OK, a few incongruencies here:
I'm using the version of the Crystal Reports that ships along with the Visual Studio.NET 2005.
- that would make is CR 10.2
We have also tried applying the latest service packs crxir2_sp4_full_build
- So SP 4 for CR XI release 2 would not do you much good as per above (if you are indeed using CR 10.2(?))
- How did you get to the crxir2_sp4_full_build? This is in a gated section of the SAP website. The only publically available SP 4 for CR XI r2 is "incremental... If you did apply crxir2_sp4_full_build, then you are working with CR XI r2 now...
The behavior is seen in the web application and the behavior is seen both in the dev and deployment system.
- So this does not work anywhere? If so, why bother going to deployment?
Also i tried exporting to pdf soon before / after printing. But the fields are present in the pdf and not on the printouts
- Confirm that you do see the fields on an exported PDF and when you print the PDF you get a blank printout?
More clarification needed:
We need to be absolutely clear on what version of Crystal Reports you are using. Open your .NET project, go to your references and look for CrystalDecisions.Crystalreports.Engine.dll. What version is this assembly?
Also, please answer the rest of the questions above.

GR slip print-out & automatic default for the print tick

Hi,
I have followed the steps as outlined below for the solution and unfortunately the GRN document do not print as anticipated. I was wondering if the non-assignment of the MM or FI Program might be the cause? Please advice if I had missed something to allow this to print immediately.
1. Maintain the Printer Name in SPRO->Matl Mgmt->Inv Mgmt and Phy Inv->Print Control->Gen Settings->Printer Setting
2. Ensure that in SPRO->Matl Mgmt->Inv Mgmt and Phy Inv->Print Control->Gen Settings->Item Print Indicator, 1 stands for Matl Doc print out
3. In SPRO->Matl Mgmt->Inv Mgmt and Phy Inv->Print Control->Gen Settings->Print Version, maintain Print Version 2
4. In SPRO->Matl Mgmt->Inv Mgmt and Phy Inv->Print Control->Maintain Print Indicator for GI/Transfer Posting Documents
5. In SPRO->Matl Mgmt->Inv Mgmt and Phy Inv->Output Determination->Maintain Output Types, for the Output types WE01, WE02 and WE03, (for returns use WE03) ensure the foll:
a. Default Values: Dispatch Time is 3 or 4 as per reqmt. and Tr medium is 1
b. Print Parameter is 7
6. In SPRO->Matl Mgmt->Inv Mgmt and Phy Inv->Output Determination->Printer Det->Pr Det by Pl/StoLoc, maintain the Output device for all your Plants
7. Go to MN21, for Tr Type WE, Print Version 3, maintain Print Item as 1.
Now the settings are ready for Printing Material doc
8. While doing MIGO, ensure that in General Tab, you get "3 Collective Slip" beside the Print Indicator and you tick mark the field.
9. Now depending on the setting in 5a, the Matl doc is printed. If it is 3, you have to print it using MB90. If it is 4, it is printed immediately.

Please advice which of the above is appropriate?
-Should there be a program reflected on change output field for General data screen?
Please advice since I'm currently experiencing shotdumps(runtime errors) when processing the GR.

Automatic Generation of form Printing for an Order

Hi,
In an Order one line itme dates are like this from 29.03.2007 to 29.03.2008.
Here year is splitted into 2 parts. One is 1st of Jan to 30th June, second one is 1st July to 31st Dec.
 So that my requirement is like this.
1) I need to print the form automatically when an Order is created.
2) Every June 15th and Dec 15th I need to print the form for that Order
 automatically with some other data.
*--Similarly I need to trigger the form in this way automatically for all Orders.
How can I trigger the Form automaticall for the above requirement.

create one new program not driver program . Then u have to call that FORM
1.Get all the data created during the dates.
split the data into , based on the date ranges.

perform open_form
 write_form
 close_form
endloop.
loop at itab2.
