Automatic insertion in text box?

Hello,
Here is the problem...I have existing .indd document, and it needs to be printed into large number of pdf files. Each pdf file must have different text in one textbox (located in master frame). Is there any way i could automate the process? Not so much for printing, but for automatic insertion of that text line by mouse click/command? I figure that automatic printing would be difficult, since each file goes to different folder...
This would not be the case if it was one time job, but I am doing it manually for a long time, each several days
Thank you for answers

Thank you peter, with Data Merge I have managed to do exactly what I wanted, even easier than i taught it could be done, using Excel
Automatic printing to specified folders and automatic shifting of data fields seems like to complicated, and like something indesign was not designed to do...so it can be skipped Tnx!

Perhaps you are loading a template that has a text block already on it.
You might try the blank template option and set that as your go to template in your preferences

Why does Preview automatically resize the text box to cut off the last character of added text? How do I fix it?
I use the Tools > Annotate > Add Text feature, and when I click away after adding text, it automatically changes the text box size such that the last letter -- or last word -- gets bumped off into an invisible line below it, forcing me to manually adjust every single text box. It is highly annoying when trying to complete PDF forms (e.g. job applications).
It appears to be a glitch, quite honestly, an error resulting from Apple's product design. Has it been fixed in the new operating system (for which they want $30)?
I would very much appreciate any help you can provide! Thank you for your time.

  • Inserting a Text Box? - Applescript

Thanks for helping me out earlier. Now I want to insert a text box at the bottom of the page 4.5 inches wide and .5 inches tall, how do I script that in?
This is all needed as part of a workflow I am doing with automator, and once I can solve that, then I am DONE!
    Here is my apple script:
    tell application "Microsoft Word"
      activate
set orientation of page setup of section 1 of active document to orient landscape
set mar to page setup of active document
set left margin of mar to (inches to points inches 1)
set right margin of mar to (inches to points inches 1)
set top margin of mar to (inches to points inches 0.7)
set bottom margin of mar to (inches to points inches 1.5)
set alignment of paragraphs of active document to align paragraph center
    end tell
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Here is an example :
    tell application "Microsoft Word"
          activate
          tell active document
set orientation of page setup of section 1 to orient landscape
                tell its page setup
                      set pWidth to page width
set lMargin to inches to points inches 1
                      set left margin to lMargin
                      set right margin to lMargin
set top margin to (inches to points inches 0.7)
set bottom margin to (inches to points inches 1.5)
                end tell
set alignment of paragraphs to align paragraph center
                set nP to (count paragraph)
-- the doc must have at least two blank paragraphs at end of it before creating the textbox
if (content of text object of paragraph (nP - 1)) is not return then insert paragraph at after last character
if (content of text object of paragraph nP) is not return then insert paragraph at after last character
select text object of last paragraph -- select the last blank paragraph
          end tell
          create textbox selection
tell last text box of active document
set height to inches to points inches 0.5
set width to inches to points inches 4.5
set content of text range of its text frame to "something" -- set the content of this text box
set left position to ((pWidth / 2) - (width / 2)) - lMargin -- center the text box, no center alignment in AppleScript

  • Inserting a Text Box

When I insert a text box on my web page, I find it can be anywhere on the page and I have to set about looking for the blinking cursor. It may be in another box with text covering it or in a photo box. Is there a way that the inserted box can have a larger, darker graphic box? Am I doing something incorrectly in inserting the box?

As soon as you have inserted the text box, in the Inspector's Graphic tab, under Stroke choose Line and optionally increase the thickness of the line from 1 pt to 2 or 3 pt. That will make the box easy to see whilst working with it. (Revert back to Stroke - None before publishing.)
Am I doing something incorrectly in inserting the box?
    I don't think so.

  • Is there a way to automatically populate a text box with its text's colour values (RGB, CMYK, etc)?

I'm trying to work a little faster and since Kuler now syncs into CC, I'd like to know if there is a way to colour text from a text box and have this text change automatically depending on the values of the swatch I selected.
It should work more or less like metadata, or variable text: you can customise what value will appear
I'm almost 100% sure the answer is no, but it can't hurt to ask.

The short answer is No. But I see that Ray has given you an option.

  • Is there a way to automatically resize the text box to fit the text inside, without using the selection tool to resize the corners in Illustrator and Photoshop?

I'm wondering if there is a way where I can quickly resize a text box to fit exactly around the text inside, so pretty much the smallest the text box can go without being too small to fit the text? I know you can do this manually with the selection tool, but is there a button/command that automatically does this in one go?
    Thanks

Try this script. Save the page as .jsx the the "Presets>Scripts" AI folder. When you restart AI it will appear in the "Scripts" menu. Select the text block and run the script.
Thanks to Nathaniel Vaughn KELSO for the script.

  • Automatically inserting rich text content control

I have many word .docx forms which I would like to convert to a form which can be filled in with Reader.  The word forms presently would be like ...we [name of parties] desire to enter into...
I would like to have a program which automatically finds the brackets and inserts a rich text content control box and then inserts whatever is within the brackets for the placeholder wording.
Can this be done and if so, is it code in XML or am I totally off my rocker?
    Thanks

    Hi Peter,
According to the description, you are using OPCHelper converting the Word document into byte. As far as I know, the OPCHelper is a third-part class, I suggest contact the vendor to get more effective response.
For this issue, did you want to retrieve byte data from the Office package? And based on my understanding, the office document support Open XML format is a zip. We can directly get the data from the zip package via
    GZipStream.
Hope it is helpful, and if I misunderstood please feel free to correct me.

  • How do I save preferences for automatically filled in text box?

    G'day
I've got a popup button that lists all the external disks on my computer, and when a user picks a particular file on one of them, the path is displayed in a text field.
If I edit the field, it's saved automatically, but how do I save/update the preference bindings without editing please?
    Regards
    Santa

it's OK, I figured it out. For posterity...
    First define the property...
    property NSUserDefaults : class "NSUserDefaults"
    then to read...
    tell standardUserDefaults() of NSUserDefaults
    set tempDiskPath to objectForKey_("DiskPath")
    set tempDayReportDisplay to objectForKey_("DayReportDisplay")
    set thetempYears1 to objectForKey_("theYearsStrings")
    set tempYear to objectForKey_("tempYear")
    set theDayYears1 to objectForKey_("theDayYearsStrings")
    set tempdayYear to objectForKey_("tempdayYear")
    end tell
    the to write...
    on applicationShouldTerminate_(sender)
-- Insert code here to do any housekeeping before your application quits
set tempDiskPath to DiskPath's stringValue() as text
set tempDayReportDisplay to DayReportDisplay's stringValue() as text
set thetempYears1 to (theYear's itemTitles()) as list
set tempYear to theYear's titleOfSelectedItem() as text
set theDayYears1 to (DayReportYear's itemTitles()) as list
set tempdayYear to DayReportYear's titleOfSelectedItem() as text
    tell standardUserDefaults() of NSUserDefaults
    setObjectforKey(tempDiskPath, "DiskPath")
    setObjectforKey(tempDayReportDisplay, "DayReportDisplay")
    setObjectforKey(thetempYears1, "theYearsStrings")
    setObjectforKey(tempYear, "tempYear")
    setObjectforKey(theDayYears1, "theDayYearsStrings")
    setObjectforKey(tempdayYear, "tempdayYear")
    end tell
return true -- current application's NSTerminateNow
    end applicationShouldTerminate_

  • Automatic Insertion of Text

I am running MS Word 2011.  Every time I type my last name  "Mucci" and then press either the tab key, the enter key or the space bar, MS World inserts a strange combination of characters.  See
    below.
    "MuMucci6ytgfvb cfrt4554erfdcxsdwe3ZXCFDGTHYU78900-PO;L.,'[P-="
It is I do not know how this problem began, so I do not know how to eliminate it.  I have tried deleting it using the Customize option for custom keyboard
strokes; the custom dictionary and the AutoText options for deleting custom building blocks.  I cannot even locate the source of the string
    Mu6ytgfvb cfrt4554erfdcxsdwe3ZXCFDGTHYU78900-PO;L.,'[P-="
If anyone has an idea about how this string was created and where it might reside in MS World, please let me know.  Steve M

  • Is there a way to automatically populate a text-box with target object's colour values (CMYK, RGB, HEX, etc.)?

I know there's image metatext, but I'd like to know if it's exclusive for images. When I set up my branding colour scheme I usually come up with about 25 different colours, so it's kind of a chore to go ahead and fill in the Pantone, CMYK, RGB and HEX values for each one of them. Is there an easy way to do this? If not in InDesign, is there a way to do it in Illustrator?
    Thank you on advance!

The only problem is it only fills in the RGB values
Looks like the script label is the swatch's actual color values, which can be Lab, CMYK, or RGB (not Hex). The problem with equivalents is which flavor? If you want the RGB equivalent of a CMYK swatch do you mean sRGB, AdobeRGB, ProPhoto RGB, etc., they would all be different.

  • DITA + FM: How can I change the automatically insert text for the element info?

    Hello,
when I insert the element info in a topic, FrameMaker automatically insert the text "ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:".
    How can I change that?
I know how to change it for the elements result, postreq and prereq. I change the text format rules for the elements in the topic.edd.
But the element info has no text format rules and when I search in the topic.edd for the text "additional" or "info" I dont find something.
    With kind regards,
    Nina

    Hi Scott,
thanks a lot for your reply! I've found the code in the EDD on page 65.
"... is using the @type attribute value ..." - I have changed the values in the DTD (Structure\xml\DITA\app\dtd\commonElements.mod), but that didn't had any effect, not even after a restart of FM. I also changed the note attribute values in "dita-map.edd.fm" and "topic.edd.fm". Nothing. When I insert a note tag FM still inserts the original values.
Did I missunderstand something? Further tips?

  • Why can't I resize a text box in the new Preview in Yosemite?

I just upgraded to Yosemite, and I am having trouble with the new Preview.  I am a student and my notes are pdfs.  I have been using Preview to take notes on the pdfs for the past two years.  I have always been able to insert a text box, make it a certain size (resizing it using the text box function and dragging the corners/sides to fit the space in which I want to type), and type easily.  In the new Yosemite Preview, I can insert a text box, but I can only resize it horizontally (not diagonally or vertically), and when the text reaches the right edge of my box, it moves upwards instead of continuing the text downwards (the entire box shifts up so that my typing line is in the same position as where I started and the previous text is now above).  Is there any way to get around this?  I really don't want to purchase software just to be able to easily add text to a pdf.

I find it annoying too. Also, when you want to add text, you always need to open the title bar and then to text box always goes in the middle of the document. The only way I found to get over that issue was to ask my friend to put Preview 7.0 on a USB key (he is still on Mavericks) and then I dragged it in my application folder. It works for some PDFs but not for all of them unfortunatelly...

  • Creating a frame around a text box?

I'm new to Illustrator (I'm running CS4 on a Mac) and I'm creating what is essentially an organization chart. (It's actually something more of a decision tree, but that's not important.)
I've searched some other forums and I discovered the Area Type Options. I'm using that to create 6 pixels of inset spacing between my text and the outside of the text box. Now, I'd like to have a 1 or 2 point frame drawn automatically around the text box. One place told me to go to Object > Text Frame. However, when I highlight the text box and go to Object there is not Text Frame option (either available or grayed out).
It doesn't seem that I should have to manually go through the work of drawing a rectangle around every text frame.
Can someone point me in the right direction to have Illustrator make the blue (electronic) frame into a real visible one?
    Thank you in advance,
    Bflat Blues

Thank you so much. That did the trick.
However, I'm surprised how arcane this simple technique seems to be. I wanted to draw a straightforward org chart and Illustrator didn't appear to make it straightforward at all.
It's probably me. From what I can see, a new Illustrator user trying to use it for something this simple is like using dynamite to kill a fly.
I just need to play with it more as I'm working through exercises.
    Once again, thank you.
