Automating iTunes U Account Creation

I'm currently looking for a way to automate iTunes U account creation so that upon request, a professor or another university entity can create an account on demand.
Something that intergrates with Blackboard well would be nice, but right now I'm trying to learn more about how this is done with iTunes U.
Please respond with links to documentation or any information that may be helpful in my development efforts.

Apple does not manage accounts for iTunes U. There is no way, through script or otherwise, to request that Apple make or enable an account. Every site is different and handles its users differently.
Although it can seem really confusing, the really beautiful thing about the way iTunes U is setup is that it relies upon us, as admins, to verify our users using our own methods for doing so. All we do, at our respective sites, is tell Apple that we've verified a user request and that we'd like to associate a certain level of access with that request. Apple assumes we've vetted the user if we pass along a valid time stamp/shared secret (after all, only an admin and Apple know the shared secret).
I think what you're looking for is a way to take a faculty request for access to iTunes U, verify that the request does indeed come a faculty member, and give that faculty member access to iTunes U as an editor of content. This is normally the role of what Apple calls a "transfer CGI script" that you compose. The admin guide shows a typical transfer CGI, written in Java, that issues an "admin" credential for iTunes U. That script can be modified to give other kinds of access. If Java is not your forte, Apple provides other code sample (C, Python, Perl, shell script) that work similarly. Alternatively, there are a handful of Blackboard plugins that associate Blackboard access with a specific iTunes U credential. I am not a Blackboard guy, so I'll have to defer to others on that.

  • Itunes store account creation

    when i login to itunes store it says that my account was never used with itunes store (which is true) and offers to fill in my payment info. why should i do that if i only intend to download free apps and other free stuff? i wouldn't like to specify my cards and other billing info quite intentionally.
    all my friends who's got iphones keep telling me that they never filled in any billing info (and i know for sure that some of them don't even have bank cards) and they manage to download all the possible free stuff o.O maybe i miss something?

    are you trying to sign in using a mobileme e-mail?
    because this is what happens to me, if i try to create account with a mobileme e-mail it asks for credit card info, but if you create a account with another e-mail it offers to create a free account
    with you don't mind you can use another e-mail but i want to know how to create it with a mobileme e-mail

  • ITunes Music Store Canada account creation issues

    Hello everyone! I'm hoping someone could help me out with my problems.
    I'm trying to setup an iTunes Music Store (Canada) account for my brother. I already have an account of my own and never had any problem with it. However, this time, I can't complete the account creation process. I get to the point where I enter the credit card information and address. I fill in every box, including the Province one: it's a drop-down menu and I select Quebec from it. When I click the Submit (I think it's Submit... it might be Next... I can't remember) button in the lower right corner, instead of going to the next step in the creation process, the page reloads and it tells me that I DID NOT fill in the Province box. There's a big arrow in a red circle pointing to the box. So, I reenter every information INCLUDING the Province field, reclick on the button and, lo and behold! I get the same message: You did not specify the Province (I'm paraphrasing).
    I have contacted Apple using their support form, but I got an absolutely useless reply. I think the person didn't read my message because he referred me to a beginner's tutorial on how to setup an account. I clearly explained the situation though, so I was disappointed.
    Did anyone ever encounter something similar? What do you suggest I do? Should I recontact Apple and re-explain the situation? Should I re-install iTunes? Will it affect the music libraries on my computer if I re-install it?
    For the record, I'm using a new 20" iMac with iTunes 7.0.2 and OS X 10.4.8.
    Thank you very much for any help you can provide me.

    Your Dad should also check any credit/debit cards associated with his apple account... just incase anyone has been charging things to his account without him knowing.

  • Automating account creation

    i've read the command line admin guide and have tried dscl and dsimport to handle LDAP account creation, but i was wondering about how others perform these tasks.
    are there "best practices" to follow in mass account creation? do you have any recommended techniques i should follow?
    thanks for your help.

    i just wanted to second passenger. I use it to create mass amounts of accounts and it really helps out. Plus you will be able to open up the document that it creates before you import it if you really want to see what an import document looks like with the headers and all.

  • Can I create an iTunes Store account with a MasterCard debit card?

    I know I can create an iTubes Store or Mac App Store account wihout entering billing info from this article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534.
    But what if I want to use an existing Apple ID with iTunes Store or Mac App Store like this article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2589.
    The article says, and I've confirmed it by checking, that credit card billing info is required.
    Can a MasterCard or Visa debit card be used instead?
    I know debit cards have been sort of removed from illegible payment methods for the iTunes Store. But I'm only using the debit card for account creation. Will it work?
    Just answer my question. Don't ask me to try myself.

    There have been a number of posts recently about debit cards being declined, and they are not listed on this page as a valid payment method, so I don't think that they are still accepted.

    Hi Michael,
    Yes it is now resolved but not after I send iTunes a request for help and explaining the problem.  They send a first reply explaining how I needed to verify my account and gave me the link to do that.  You and I know that this did not help, so I replied telling them that this was not working and iTunes did the reset for me.
    You may want to open a help ticket with iTunes help.  That is the only way it works.

  • Should we share itunes store account if we use home sharing?

    Right now, my children and I share an itunes store account, but it is getting hard to manage their itunes gift cards this way. Should I just bite the bullet and have them each get their own account? How will this affect home sharing? Do we just have to authorize multiple itunes store accounts on all the computers or does that even matter now that the content is no longer copy-protected. I only have some copy-protected items on the one original account and it is quite a bit of money to upgrade them so I would rather not do that. How would this work with syncing devices?

    No home sharing does not delete anything.  It does exactly what it says it does, it shares your music library with others and vise versa.  I use it all the time in my home, and works perfectly.  All it does is wirelessly adds music to your music library that you are able to play.  Do you need help setting up iTunes Home Sharing?
    Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with,
    Cheers,
    Allen

  • TS1368 How can I enable my iTunes Store account ?

    I need to enable my iTunes Store account , how can I do that ?

    You might be able to re-enable it via this page : http://appleid.apple.com, then 'reset your password'
    You might then need to log out of your account on your iPad by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Stores and then log back in so as to 'refresh' the account on it
    If that doesn't fix it then you might need to contact iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

  • How do I get an itunes u account for my organization

    Can someone ANYONE please tell me how I get started with this?
    I am part of a public education network in Western New York, called Erie 1 Boces and we would like to set up an iTunes U account so we can use it for our professional development offerings.
    I have signed up for one, only to be told I would be contacted in 3 business days, without any response.  I did this 2 times and nothing.
    I have called and went through about 5 different people only to be told someone would get back to me.
    NOTHING.
    As you can see I am very frustrated.  It should not be so hard to get information about this.
    Please help.  What am I doing wrong?
    Thank you.
    Andy

    Hi Andy,
    Unfortunately, your registration experience seems to be fairly common. It tooks about 8 business days for us to receive our final approval.
    One thing to confirm - about a day or two after submitting the original request, I received an email stating that I needed to review and execute the iTunes U Service agreement. Did you receive that email? It took about another 6 business days after that to complete the process.
    Another thing to check - did you designate someone else as your Site Manager? That is the person that will recieve the final approval notice and the steps to initialize the site.

  • How do I delete an iTunes store account?

    I would like to delete a duplicate iTunes store account.  Any suggestions on how to accomplish this?

    I inadvertently started two iTunes accounts.  I don't want two iTunes accounts.  The older, incorrect iTunes account has my correct email address associated with it.  Therefore, the newer, correct, preferable account CAN'T use this email address.
    If I can just delete the older account, then I can use the new account.  Get it?

  • How many different Apple TVs can I share one iTunes Store account with?

    I currently have one AppleTV at my home, and one at my mothers home. We both share the same iTunes Store account, therefore we share the movies that each other purchase. I am interested in getting my father and my aunt and Apple TV as well, I want them to also be able to use my iTunes Store account. That way, if say my father and I both want to watch the same movie, we can split the cost.
    I also currently own an iPhone, and an iPad. I'm going to be getting my mother and father iPads as well. I want them to be able to use my iTunes Store account on those devices as well, and be able to stream movies on them.
    I know it says that your iTunes Store account can only be associated with 10 devices, but I'm wondering where Apple TVs fit into that stance. It's probably a stupid question, but I was just curious if the fact that it is iCloud changes anything.
    Essentially, I'm wondering if four Apple TVs, three iPads, one iPhone, and my one desktop computer can all stream my iCloud movie content, simultaneously. I doubt there will ever be more than two or three going simultaneously, but I just want to know the limitations before I buy these gifts for my family members and run into an unpleasant surprise.
    Thank you for your time,
    Charles

    as many as you can other computers with itunes accessing the shared ituned lib
    likely the limitation is the network bandwidth more then number of connected devices

  • Windows 8 Sysprep - Can't skip local account creation and autologon fails, wrong admin password.

    Using Windows 8 x64 Enterprise, Sysprep pauses to ask me to create a local user, which I don't want.
    If I enable SkipSystemOOBE and SkipUserOOBE in OOBE under Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup sysprep (in oobe mode) will skip user creation and autologon works.  But it only works correctly once.  If I run sysprep again, when it tries to autologon
    it will say that I have the wrong password for the local account.  After I type in the password manually it works.  If I use the same password for the local administrator account as for the autologon account, it looks to have the encrypted password

    What I need to know:
    How to skip local user account creation (we run on a domain but I have it connect through scripts later)
    How to fix the autologon issue
    Do I need the local administrator account enabled for this to work?

    The user accounts-creation page in Windows Welcome is suppressed if a user or a group is added to a local security group. Add a user or a group to a local security group by doing one of the following:
    Create a local user.
    Add a domain user to a local security group with the Microsoft-Windows-Shell-Setup | UserAccounts unattended installation setting.
    To suppress the user accounts-creation page in Windows Welcome, without creating a local user, use one of the following workarounds:
    Workaround 1
    If the computer is already joined to a domain, use the following XML example to add the Domain Users security group to the Local Users security group.
    <DomainAccounts>
     <DomainAccountList wcm:action="add">
      <DomainAccount wcm:action="add">
      <Group>Users</Group>
      <Name>Domain Users</Name>
      </DomainAccount>
      <Domain>FabrikamDomain</Domain>
      </DomainAccountList>
    </DomainAccounts>
    Because joining a domain automatically adds the Domain Users security group to the Local Users security group, the DomainAccounts command does not affect the membership of the Local Users group. However, using this XML example to join a domain will also suppress
    the user accounts-creation page in Windows Welcome.
    Workaround 2
    Use the Sysprep/Quit command to set the following registry value to 1:
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\OOBE\UnattendCreatedUser
