Automating the compare of a project in LabVIEW 8.5

Hi folks,
I am writing LabVIEW code to automate the comparison of a Woking Copy (WC) of a project with the copy in an SVN repository.
The way it works is that I get file lists from both the Working Copy and the repository. Then for each VI or control that is in both places, I get a local copy of the repository version (with a different name) and call "CMP Compare two VIs.vi".
90+% of the time this works just fine.
Some of the time I get a pop-up box asking for a password. This is the same pop-up box you would get for a password protected VI where you want to look at the block diagram. The VIs causing this are not password protected. When you look at the Lock State property, it is "Not Locked". You can open the VI seperately and look at the block diagram without a password. None of the VIs subVIs are password protected.
This only happens with files from the repository, not the ones from the WC. (I tried swapping the path inputs to the CMP Compare two VIs.vi and it was still the repository copy causing problems.)
The pop up message is also strange as the file it is complaining about is a garbled mess of both of the files being compared. I have attached a screen shot of the Pop up. The files being compared when this pop-up shows up are:
lvtemporary_501221.vi
AI-Only.vi
What I am looking for is a work-around so I can use this project without having to stand by and click buttons while it sorts through all the files in the WC.

Hi,
I'd like to ask you if you are using Web Services in your application?
If that is the case, you can use this KB as a reference to solve your problem.

  • Can't Get the "Compare Word Documents" Automator Action to Work

I'm trying to build an automator workflow that will use the "Compare Word Documents" action (office 2011) to compare 2 documents.  The expected output would be a new document that shows the changes made between document A and document B, much as if I had used the "compare documents" feature within word.
I think I must be passing the wrong variables into this action because I cannot get the compare to actually work.  Here's what I've tried:
I have a "get specified finder item" that selects document A
Then I have an "open word document"
Then I have a "compare word documents".  In the "Compare Against", I have selected document B
When I run this workflow, I end up with 4 windows open -- document A, document B, a copy of each.  And in no case do I see the comparison.
Does anyone know how to get the compare documents workflow to work properly?

    Hi Bob,
That is what I thought...but, then when I learned about the End Nested Style Sheet here character, I thought that would override that issue.
Thanks for clarifying that there is no way around the new paragraph issue.
I kept thinking there has to be a way and I just don't know how to do it, but I guess that is not the case. That is the only downfall to me regarding that amazing feature.
    thanks!

  • Can I automate the creation of a cluster in LabView using the data structure created in an autogenerated .CSV, C header, or XML file?

Can I automate the creation of a cluster in LabView using the data structure created in an auto generated .CSV, C header, or XML file?  I'm trying to take the data structure defined in one or more of those files listed and have LabView automatically create a cluster with identical structure and data types.  (Ideally, I would like to do this with a C header file only.)  Basically, I'm trying to avoid having to create the cluster by hand, as the number of cluster elements could be very large. I've looked into EasyXML and contacted the rep for the add-on.  Unfortunately, this capability has not been created yet.  Has anyone done something like this before? Thanks in advance for the help.

Is this something you're trying to do at runtime? Clusters are fixed data structures so you can't change them programmatically. Or, are you just trying to create some typedef cluster controls so that you can use them for coding? What would your clusters basically look like? Perhaps another way of holding the information like an array of variants?
You can try LabVIEW scripting, though be aware that this is not supported by NI.
Wow!  Thanks for the quick response!  We would use this cluster as a fixed data structure.  No need to change the structure during runtime.  The cluster would be a cluster of clusters with multiple levels.  There would be not pattern as to how deep these levels would go, or how many elements would be in each.   Here is the application.  I would like to be able to autocode a Simulink model file into a DLL.  The model DLL would accept a Simulink bus object of a certain data structure (bus of buses), pick out which elements of the bus is needed for the model calculation, and then pass the bus object.  I then will take the DLL file and use the DLL VI block to pass a cluster into the DLL block (with identical structure as the bus in Simulink).  To save time, I would like to auto generate the C header file using Simulink to define the bus structure and then have LabView read that header file and create the cluster automatically.   Right now I can do everything but the auto creation of the cluster.  I can manually build the cluster to match the Simulink model bus structure and it runs fine.  But this is only for an example model with a small structure.  Need to make the cluster creation automated so it can handle large structures with minimal brute force. Thanks!

  • Publication of the big-sized Enterprise projects from Project Professional 2013 to Project Server 2013 takes about 60+ minutes.

    Dear Sirs,
I need your support over the following MS EPM 2013 issue:
Publication of the big-sized Enterprise projects from Project Professional 2013 to Project Server 2013 takes about 30+ minutes. We
need to reduce this total publication time down to acceptable working values 10+- minutes.
    Environment information:
Single App Server (Virtual): 16 Gb RAM, x64 4xCPU, HDD > 50 GB free disk space, OS Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition x64 Service
Pack 1, MS SharePoint Server 2013 and MS Project Server 2013 with CU December 2013 (KB 2850024) applied.
Single RDBMS MS SQL Server (Virtual): 8 Gb RAM, x64 4xCPU, HDD > 200 GB free space, OS Windows Server 2012 Standard Edition x64 Service
Pack 1, MS SQL Server 2012 x64 SP 1 Enterprise Edition.
We have 1Gbit LAN between APP, DB server and 1Gbit LAN between APP and Proj Prof Client.
Yes, we are on the way of migrating to the Prod environment
with 3-tiered architecture (with SP1 slipstream and CU December 2014 applied), but this issue also
    presents there.
    Project’s file information:
Tasks in the file: [~4900], resources in the file [~396] enterprise task’s custom fields used in the file [~23].
Project save procedure for this new project would last about 7 minutes. Project publication would last about 47 minutes. We noticed that
tasks synchronization process took about 1 second for each ~2,5 tasks, to add them to the sharepoint tasks list. So for all 5148 tasks it took about 5148/3/60 =  34 minutes. Other 13 min was used for reporting database publication and other tasks relevant
    for new sharepoint site creation.
    Case 1: Issue description:
During the Enterprise project’s file save and publication we have the following sharepoint 2013 log messages:
    07.31.2014 12:43:17.22 Microsoft.Office.Project.Server (0x0358) 0x3D5C SharePoint Foundation Monitoring b4ly High Leaving Monitored Scope
(Persisting list changes). performing time =376.068676326181 22dca99c-4696-70f1-e9e2-06851d0bcffd
    07.31.2014 12:43:17.69 Microsoft.Office.Project.Server (0x0358) 0x3D5C SharePoint Foundation Monitoring b4ly High Leaving Monitored Scope
(Persisting list changes). performing time =361.652807828928 22dca99c-4696-70f1-e9e2-06851d0bcffd
It shows that sharepoint spend at least ~350 milliseconds (or 0,35 sec*4900 tasks = 1715 sec, or 28,5 min) for each task update during
project publication. And we also have another log file that shows that about 0,7 sec (or 0,7 sec*4900 tasks = 3430 sec, or 57 min) sharepoint spend for save each task in project file to project server. So total save and publication time more then 60+ minutes
for that project file. The same result we have even if user didn’t do any changes at the project file.
We use only enterprise projects (dbo.MSP_EpmProject_UserView.projectvisibilitymode = «False»), and do not use sharepoint tasks lists,
but the synchronization between MSP Plan and SharePoint tasks list works at any case.
    Case 2: Issue description:
    - For the second test we created a new project with new sharepoint project’s site on basis of our «issue» project, with total amount
of tasks in it of 5148 (yes, we increased the tasks list default limit at the sharepoint site up to 6000 items in it – standard limits for sharepoint view list – 5000 items).
    - Project save procedure for this new project would last about 7 minutes. Project publication would last about 47 minutes. We noticed
that tasks synchronization process took about 1 second for each ~2,5 tasks, to add them to the sharepoint tasks list. So for all 5148 tasks it took about 5148/3/60 =  34 minutes. Other 13 min was used for reporting database publication and other tasks
relevant for new sharepoint site creation.
    -Then we deleted the
tasks list for that new test project from the sharepoint site and republish the project plan one more time. This time project save procedure took about 7 minutes, project publication about 2 minutes and 3 minutes for other relevant queue jobs. So total time
    is 12 minutes.
As a conclusion: yes, we have determined
the exact problem - during synchronization process (from Project Server to SharePoint) it perform copying all tasks and related data from Project to SharePoint in spite of fact that you changed only ONE task or ALL of them. At any case, synchronization will
copy ALL of them from Project Server to SharePOint task’s list.
Our workaround is to disable the task’s synchronization for such big-sized project plans:
    – to delete the SharePoint «tasks» list at the SharePoint site tied with project plan.
    - or deattach the SharePoint site from the project plan.
Thank you for reading this topic, please if you also forced with such issue provide us any known workaround or maybe any official response
\ feedback from MS about it.
    Thank you in advance,
    Best Regards, Andrey

Regarding my topic, I also said that every time when sync works it updates All items from project’s plan at Project Server to corresponded task’s list at SharePOint server. Inspire of the fact that you changed only One task or group /
all of them at your project’s plan.
And it seems to me and my colleagues that it’s probably (maybe) a “bug” at the product. Here is what we have if looked a little bit closer to the code:
Share Point determines what task to sync from Project’s plan to sharepoint list. To do that sharepoint needs to know was that task changed or not, based on the following fileds (check SQL stored procedure “[MSP_READ_TASKS_FOR_SYNCRONIZATION]”):
    TASK_UID    TASK_NAME    TASK_START_DATE    TASK_FINISH_DATE    TASK_PCT_COMP    TASK_PARENT_UID    TASK_OUTLINE_NUM
    WSS_LISTITEM_UID   TASK_ID    TASK_IS_ACTIVE
We noticed that at any case synchronization performs for all tasks, EXCEPT the ROOT one. Then we looked at the comparison of TASK_PARENT_UID field. So sharepoint compares TASK_PARENT_UID with ParentID (this is internal name for lookup
field “Tasks” at the Sharepoint, and it stores their values at the format "ID;#Title").
    And comparison performs like following:
    SharePoint looks for Task at the Tasks’s list corresponded to Project’s plan with ID represented at the TASK_PARENT_UID field. Then it takes SharePoint ListItem ID (“int” type) and store it to the “num” parameter;
    num = this.GetCachedListItemByUniqueId(listItem.ParentList, nullable.Value).ID;
2.Then it compares “num” with task’s “ParentID” at SharePOint as follow with operator “!=”:
    ((SPItem) listItem)["ParentID"] != (System.ValueType) num
       3. If comparison was success (true) – then it tell us that values (at the Project’s plan for tasks) was changed, then it need to be synchronized. Corresponded Method setup “true” flag, and then returns it.
The “bug” is that this expression at the Step 2 will always return “true”, because in fact it compares “string” (see above – that this is lookup field at SharePoint side)
with “number”. For example if the parant task ID is “55”, then we get:
    "55;#Task 1" != 55
And by the rules of .Net the “string” will never equal “number”
Furthermore this is approved by the SharePoint logs:
In that case we always get the note “Setting ParentID to” at the logs (we see it if turns on Verbose for “Project Server” -> “Sharepoint Integration” category).
So at any case of publishing project’s plan we always get that note at the logs for tasks that have Parent task, and we have Parent for all of them EXCEPT the ROOT one, exact logs represented further:

LDR is a resistor whose resistance decreases with increasing incident light intensity... I know, you are already aware of what LDR is...!!
--> Well what exactly you want a LabVIEW program to do in this setup of yours...??
--> If you want LabVIEW to take control and lit different bulbs, based on the light intensity, I would like to know, how exactly you planned to measure the resistance variation of LDR??
--> What DAQ are you using??
--> Are you aware that DAQ cards can measure the voltage across a shunt resistance (here LDR) and indirectly tell you the variation in the resistant, provided a constant current passing through the resistance.
I am not allergic to Kudos, in fact I love Kudos.

  • Why is the Compare Document Feature is greyed out?

    Hello Everyone,
I am trying to compare two very similar large documents.  I want to use the compare document feature but it is greyed out.  What would cause this to happen?
    Thanks
    Derek L.

Here's what happened and worked for me.  My solution, observations and recomendations.  I have FCPX 10.0.9
After creating a 2 minute plus video feature , I discovered I could not export (share) the project.  The share option was greyed out.  Also greyed out was the File> 'Reimport from camera / Archive' option some have suggested as a solution.  There were no errors or any indication why this was happening, which is a huge problem with this editing software and I will address that below.
My problem was isolated to exporting (sharing) one timeline (project) so, reinstalling the entire program was not a logical option.  This is what I had to do...
I was faced with the prospect of chasing my tail for weeks on end hoping that I could find an answer buried deep within the FCPX manual or online but, what I did instead was, the grueling task of creating a new project and copying clip by clip from the non-share project and pasting each clip into the new project until I found which clip or clips were the problem.  Each time I pasted into the new project I would look to see if the 'share' menu was greyed out.
By doing so, I did indeed isolate the bad (?) clip in the new project and what I did in the 'non-share' project was simply reimport that one video clip.  Like magic the non-share project was able to export (share).  Share menu no longer greyed out.
This taught me a valuable lesson.  1.) FCPX does NOT always give you the ability to isolate a clip it, for whatever reason, does not like.  Meaning, you're up the creek without a paddle when export / share time comes.  Huge, huge problem that needs to be addressed.
2.) My humble recommendation is to ALWAYS check your 'Share' menu as often as you can tolerate. Specially those of you producing long projects. It's a pain but, if there is just one clip FCPX doesn't like you will NOT be able to export project.

  • "Team Members have submitted x updates to the plan" message in Project 2013

When opening a project in Project Pro 2007 and in 2010, and there were pending updates, a message pops up stating "Team members have submitted x updates to the plan. do you want to close this project and accept these updates". In 2013, this message
doesn't always appear. Is this controlled by a setting or can something else influence this?
    Shimone Bezuidenhout

From my experience in using Project Server 2013 this useful dialog box message does not seem to appear at all or at least I have not managed to provoke it despite processing status updates by a wide variety of ways.
In my experience approving status updates and then opening the schedule does not result in the updates dialog box being displayed.
In the Approval Centre the History for Status Updates includes a column showing the status and the ribbon includes a button that allows you to publish approved status updates. This was also available in 2010 but seems to be more "prominent" in
    the 2013 version.
There are no changes in Time and Task Management settings within Server Settings to provoke this change in the user experience from the previous version of Project Server.
I have taken a look at the "official" changes and enhancements to Project Server 2013 and there is no mention of the handling of Status Updates having been changed compared to previous versions.
Perhaps others on this Forum can shed some light on this feature/experience.

  • Four ways to save a project in LabVIEW 8.5 - any difference?

What are the fundamental differences, if any, between all the different ways to save a project under LV 8.5? Example: "Save All" and "Save All (this Project)" under the project File menu.
    From LabVIEW Help:
You can save a LabVIEW project in the
    following ways:
    Select File»Save.
    Select Project»Save Project.
Right-click the project root and select Save from the
    shortcut menu.
Click the Save All (this Project) button on the Project toolbar. You also can select
File»Save All (this Project) or right-click the project root
and select Save All (this Project) from the shortcut menu.
“A child of five could understand this. Send someone to fetch a child of five.”
    ― Groucho Marx

File>>Save will save the current document. So, in a VI window, it will save the VI. In a project window, it saves the project.
Project>>Save Project will save the project associated with the current document. So, in a VI window, it will save the project (if the VI is opened from one). In a project window, it (obviously) saves the project.
The shortcut menus is the same as the File menu Save.
Save All (this Project) saves all open files in the current open project.

  • The Comparing RAW with TS Time Lapse Recording file for MSI PANOCAM

I am a big fan of MSI, I have been using its motherboard, MP3 and NB. MSI introduces a new IOT product in 2015, MSI PANOCAM, I feel excited about it, therefore I wanna share some experience of MSI PANOCAM here.
Have you heard Time-Lapse, it is very popular skill for movie and advertisement. it looks very interesting because Time-Lapse shows interval recording fast forwarded.  It has been widely used in various industry, such as observation of flower growth; building construction and natural scene change.
The Comparing Analysis of RAW and TS file for Time Lapse
How to manage time lapse recording file is critical problem in the marketplace many end-users encountered. Generally speaking, there are two categories file have been used as Time Lapse recording, one is RAW file and another one is TS file.
The advantage of RAW would be better video retouched, such as more flexibility of colorful balance, color temperature adjustment and less Zoom in/out distortion. Especially, RAW is quite suitable for weak light resource environment and low speed camera shutter. Therefore, the requirement capacity of RAW file is larger than TS.
As beginner, be familiar with TS is suggested here, you can not perform as high quality as professional RAW quality until you learn proper shooting skill. Practicing shooting skill is necessary and should be prior than video retouching.
Left part is shooting by TS and ambiguous scene can be seen; Right part is RAW which demonstrates more detail scene

To change the amount of time you want each frame to display, you can do one of 2 things:
-Change the frame rate of the Image Sequence in the Media settings (select the layer and typ Shift F). If the frame rate is less than the project frame rate, your clip will play more slowly.  If the frame rate is greater than the project frame rate, it will play more quickly.
-Change the Speed in the Timing section (Inspector->Properties->Timing).  This is the method I think most people use.
To blend the frames, change the Frame blending option, also in the Timing section of the properties.

While using 7.1 on a very old, slow, broken computer I experienced a slow down while my complex VI was running and my error window was open.  I also experienced a similar slow down when I opened pretty much anything on that computer...
Are you operating on a very old, slow, and broken computer?  Or perhaps you are experiencing a memory leak?

  • Validation Rule for the coding mask and project profile

    Hi,
I have two project profile and two coding masks. I want one project profile to be only used by defined coding mask for that profile.
So i have maintained a validation rule as follow -
    Prerequisite - Project Def. :1-3: = 'A5M'
Check - Project Profile = 'ABC'
And if the above check is failed then give me an error message.
Now i am trying to add the project profile other than 'ABC' for the coding mask starting with 'A5M', but still the system is not giving me an error message configured and allowing me to save the project.
Is there any other thing which is tobe activated other than assigning the validation rule in project profile and clicking the Autom. validation check box in OPSA.
Request to confirm share the views.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Try the following, this must work.
    Prerequisite
    PROJ-PROFL = "ABC"
    Check
    PROJ-PSPID: 1-3: = "A5M"
    Message
Project profile & Coding mask wronly assigned
Repeat the same for other project profiles also.
Enter this validation in your project profile. Check in "Auto Validation"
    In transactinal data,
Enter project def and select the wrong profile. when you save the project system will show you the error message.
    Hope this will help you.
    Regards
    Prabu

  • Does anyone have Experience talking to a WAGO Ethernet Fieldbus copler using the Open modbus/TCP protocol and LabView ?

I have an Ethernet Fieldbus Copler of WAGO which supports the OpenModbus/TCP Protocoll, and I want to talk to it over LabView. Does anyone know how to do this or even has example VI's or Librarys ?

Wago and National Instruments have worked together to test and develop an application note showing the use of the National Instruments Modbus driver with LabVIEW and the Wago Ethernet Coupler. I have attached the preliminary applications note (which is in final technical review here at NI). You can purchase the National Instruments Modbus driver by ordering the Industrial Automation Servers, part 777616-01. The USA price is $995. It should save you quite a bit of time in working with the Wago device and any other industrial controller or modbus device you might work with in the future.

Since installing LTR 5.4, which I've now upgraded to 5.6, I've encountered repeated slowness and malfunctions in operations, especially when using the Compare View function and the Tab key to open and close the right and left side panels.  Such problems never arose during two years of using LTR-4 and nothing else has changed on my computer.  I have a pretty simple system with only a few plug-ins, which are usually not in operation.  I have 12GB of RAM in my Windows 7 PC.  I could illustrate these problems with screen shots if you would tell me how to submit screen shots.  Otherwise I will try to describe the problems in words.
The problem is clearly cumulative, growing worse as usage time passes.  Compare View feature gradually slows down and eventually seems to choke as my work session proceeds. If I Exit LTR and re-enter and start all over, things will work normally for maybe 30 minutes, but then the Compare View feature begins to become very slow to respond.   In a recent example with my screen full of thumbnails in Library mode I highlighted two images to compare. LTR started to open the Compare View screen by first having the top row of thumbnails disappear to be replaced by the "SELECT" and "CANDIDATE" words in their spaces  (but no images), but Compare View never succeeded in gaining control of the screen. After some seconds the top row of thumbnails reasserted its position and the Compare View windows disappeared. But LTR kept trying to bring them back. Again the top row of thumbnails would go away, Select and candidate would reappear, try again, and give up. This went on for at least 2-3 minutes before I tried to choose File and Exit, but even that did not initially want to respond. It doesn't like to accept other commands when it's trying to open Compare View. Finally it allowed me to exit.
To experiment I created a new catalog of 1100 images.  After 30-40 minutes, the Compare View function began to operate very slowly. With left and right side panels visible and two thumbnails highlighted, hitting Compare View can take half a minute before the two mid-size  images open in their respective SELECT and CANDIDATE windows. When the side panels are open and two images are in the Select/Candidate spaces, hitting the Tab button to close the side panels produces a very delayed response--25-30 seconds to close them, a few more seconds to enlarge the two images to full size. To reverse the process (i.e., to recall the two side panels), hitting Tab would make the two sides of the screen go black for up to a minute, with no words visible. Eventually the info fields in the panels would open up.
I also created a new user account and imported a folder of 160 images. After half an hour Compare View began mis-placing data.  (I have a screen shot to show this.)  CANDIDATE appears on the left side of SELECT, whereas it should be on the right. The accompanying camera exposure data appears almost entirely to the left of the mid-screen dividing line. Although the Candidate and Select headings were transposed, the image exposure data was not, but the data for the image on the right was almost entirely to the left of the line dividing the screen in two.
Gurus in The Lightroom Forum have examined Task Manager data showing Processes running and Performance indicators and they see nothing wrong.  I could also send screen shots of this data.
At this point, the only way I can process my images is to work 30-40 minutes and then shut down everything, exit, and re-start LTR.  This is not normal.  I hope you can find the cause, and then the solution.  If you would like to see my screen shots, tell me how to submit them.
