Autonomous Updating of Web View slides for Self-Looping

We just bought an 20" iMac with the purpose of hanging on the wall as a hallway display. I'm making a Keynote 2 application with most of the slides being generated using the Web View images.
I've got my presentation set up as a Automatically play at Startup, loops and is Self-Playing. I'm curious if anyone has figured out a way to set up the presentation so the Web View pages update automatically while in presentation mode. I know if you stop the presentation and restart it, the slides will update, but I'd like it to update while it is playing, so I can just let the presentation run 24/7 and update the pages on the fly.
Thanks in advance for any help!

I tried playing around with AppleScript, saving the AppleScript as an application and entering it into cron. It works about the first couple of times, then about the third time cron is run, it doesn't restart Keynote. It assumes Keynote is already running and playing the slideshow when the script is called.
Here's a copy of the AppleScript:
tell application "Keynote"
     stop slideshow
     quit
end tell
tell application "Finder"
     activate
     select window of desktop
open document file "iMacBriefing2.key" of folder "Desktop" of folder "amm" of folder "Users" of startup disk
end tell

  • Web Views Still Don't Auto Update in Keynote '08

So much to my disappointment, the web view feature still doesn't auto update in a self-running presentation. The web views still only update when you first open the document, and then not until you close it and re-open it again.
We have a kiosk at our company that shows slides with websites that have information that change during the day. Unfortunately it only shows the website's state as of when the document was opened, but it doesn't update as the presentation runs throughout the day.
Dang!!! I thought they were going to fix this.

It looks like this is an "as designed" feature. It updates the web view when the presentation launches, but won't do it each time it cycles through.
Bummer, but oh well. Maybe iLife '09

  • DPS Web Viewer

I have a question regarding the v27 update.
Posted from the whats new section: "In the web viewer, articles that have an article access state set to "Free" in Folio Producer can now be viewed in the desktop web viewer without counting against the paywall threshold." does this mean that as long as an article is set to free, we will not be charged for the viewing of this article?
can someone explain this in laymans terms.
    thank you.

This refers to the paywall threshold that the publisher sets up for their customers, not the download counts that Adobe charges publishers.
Publishers can use the Folio Producer to set articles to Free, Metered, or Protected. In the Account Admin tool, they can set a threshold to limit the number of metered articles that each customer can view in web viewer. For example, if the threshold is set to 3, the customer can view 3 metered articles, and browsing to the fourth metered article displays a paywall message. In v26, both free and metered articles counted against the threshold. In v27, only metered articles count against it.

  • "Fast Web View" not supported in Acrobat X plug-in for FireFox/Chrome

The Acrobat X plug-in for displaying PDFs in FireFox/Chrome does NOT support fast web view.   This means that PDFs don't display until after the entire file has been download.
For example, try viewing this document in either IE(Windows) or Safari(Mac):
    http://partners.adobe.com/public/developer/en/pdf/PDFReference.pdf
Notice how it opens very quickly, and then you can scroll around and view all the content as the PDF content strreams in?  In Safari you can see the download progress like you used to be able to see in all versions of the acrobat plug-in.  Note also that in the IE version, although fast web view is working, you cannot see the download progress like you used to be able to... Thats an issue, but not nearly as bad as the real issue...
Now try clicking the same link in either FireFox or Chrome (note that in Chrome you need to be sure that Chrome's PDF viewer is turned off and the acrobat plug-in is enabled).  Note that the PDF is not displayed until the entire file is downloaded.
This feature is VITAL for viewing large documents online.  I'm astonished that this has not been reported by other users.
Adobe -- PLEASE be sure that this gets fixed in the next update to Reader X!!  I was shocked to see that it was not fixed in 10.1.

WHY would you want to disable this? Linearized "Fast Web View" enabled PDF are the right and proper type of document to be created.

  • Publish for web viewing?

I haven't found enough information about web viewing of
    Captivate 3 screencasts.
I don't have a flash server, but I have a CMS capable of
serving individual swf or flv files. But in my output I have three
different swf files (not to mention an html).
For the sake of web viewing/streaming, what are my options?
1)is there a way in Captivate to convert it to a single file?
2)Are there any utilities for coverting to avi/mpeg? So far,
the only thing I've found is
    http://www.adshareit.com/howto-swf-to-video.html,
but I don't know what settings to use. I tried its default
settings, and the result was three mpegs, all of them were huge and
    none were usable.
3)are there special settings you should set up in Captivate
    for web viewing?
4)my cms (which is specialized) has some ability to play
flash media files within a viewer, but am unsure exactly. How would
an embedded flash player on a website be able to view a captivate
    video?
From a standpoint of latency and performance, is the best
option to just upload the three files to a web directory and give
the user the URL for the html file?

    Hello again Robert
Without seeing your actual output files it's a bit difficult
to say exactly what each file is for. But I can toss out some
    generic information.
Often when you record a project in Captivate and publish the
output you will end up with four basic files.
ProjectName.SWF (Contains the bulk of your presentation)
ProjectName_skin.SWF (Contains the Playback Controls and adds
one or more Borders surrounding the main part of your presentation)
standard.js (An externally referenced JavaScript file. This
was was used to prevent seeing the "Click to activate" message that
Microsoft Internet Explorer used to issue when it played Flash
content. But IE has been updated so this message no longer appears.
Even so, the standard.js file is still necessary in order to
    properly display your content.)
ProjectName.htm (An HTML file that is used to present the
    Flash presentation)
Depending on what and how you recorded, there may be other
files involved too. You could see one or more Full Motion files
    among the mix.
Additionally, if you used some of the supplied animations
that ship with Captivate, you could see those as well.
    Hopefully this was helpful... Rick

  • Web viewer update

When can we expect an update of the web viewer?
The content displayed is not responsive and is therefore not useable on most small screens

The v29 release introduced a couple of bugs that's most likely affecting you. These issues should be resolved within the next day or two.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/digital-publishing-suite/release-note/dps-bug-fix-release-notes.htm l
    Known issues with web viewer
Some scrollable frames in web viewer are no longer working properly with the v29 release. This issue is under investigation.
Social Sharing is not working properly for v27 and v28 apps for folios published after the release of v29.
Smooth Scrolling articles in web viewer may not display properly on the last page if the length of the smooth scrolling article is not an exact multiple of the folio height. For example, the last page of a 1024x2000 article may be cropped, but a 1024x1536 (2 times the height) or a 1024x2304 (3 times the height) should display fine. The issue is especially common in portrait orientation.
TOC images larger than 70x70 are being cropped instead of scaled.

  • I am trying to use my IPAD to video students in my conducting class, then email them the video for self evaluation.  However, many of the video clips are too long to email.  Is there anyway to compress the video clips and still email them so they can view

I am trying to use my IPAD to video students in my conducting class, then email them the video for self evaluation.  However, many of the clips are too long to send.  Is there a way I can compress the clips and still send them via email so they can open and them using Quicken?
    Muzakmn

It depends on the clips' content, their current format, and how much you would need to compress them, but in most cases and with most email systems, it's difficult to impossible to compress a clip enough to be able to get it through the attachment size limits of most email providers and still have the video be comprehensible. You'll probably need to find a web site or other method where you could post the videos for download by the students.
You can try compression and trimming, though, and see if you can get the video small enough to email. An attachment often has to be 3MB or less to go through, though it depends entirely on the email systems on both ends. If you look to the right under "more like this" you'll find similar threads on the subject.

  • Exporting PDF format for web viewing, fonts look bad

Hey everybody I'm relatively new to indesign so sorry if this is a simple one. I'm doing a newsletter in indesign, which will be used stricktly for web viewing. Whenever I export the file as a pdf the body text fonts look a bit off, as though they are slightly pixelated around the edges. This is not as noticable in the artcile titles with larger font, but any smaller font (i'm using size 14, and futura book) and it gets this pixelation, it is even more noticeable in the thinner type sets of the font. Another odd thing is the first page of the newsletter the fonts are more messed up looking than the following pages where the same font types and sizes are used, the only major difference is the first page has a photo on it, but the fonts that look weird are below the photo not overlaying it or anything like that. I turned off all the compression on the pdf export, also tried it will varying amounts of compression but still have the same issue. And I am viewing this in Mac's Preview program, not acrobat.

Ok, just checked through all the flattening preview highlights and everything looked fine in that. Since my exported document looked perfectly fine in acrobat, but sort of pixelated in mac's preview, is there any way around that?
If you are serving the PDF via a web address it will very likely be viewed in a browser (not downloaded and opened in an app like Preview or Reader). All of the browser displays have slightly different anti-aliasing, which you can see if you zoom in on a screen capture of the text. Here's a line of text from your PDF at 100%, magnified to 400% in Photoshop. From top to bottom Safari, Chrome, Firefox:
There's nothing you can do about the anti-aliasing quality of the different browsers and apps. The PDF you posted has live transparency, so it isn't a flattening issue.

  • Limiting Query View selections for Web reports

In web reports, users currently have Query View Selection but they want to be  able to just see views that they have created and not all others.
    How can this be done?
Does creating views in web and in BEX pull different auth objects or is it same? - Which objects are check in WEB views? Bex views use s_rs_comp with the QVW componenet.. but the trace does not show any log like this.

    Hi,
User specific protection of queries are controlled by authorization object S_RS_COMP1.
Authorization RSZOWNER = "$USER" allows the user access to activities in all the components he is an owner of.

  • Output to other formats for web viewing

    HI all,
I was wondering if anyone has found anything handy for shunting out projects for web approvals. I use h264 using the broadband setting high on my work and it looks super. for 16 9 i scale the dimensions to 480 x 270 manually.
The file size is small and good for quicktime 7 viewers.
However, has anyone any concrete experience using flip4mac or other not hideously expensive encoders. particularly dvcam widescreen friendly ones. some of my clients are resistant to using quicktime as their web viewer( although they are losing the fight over time to quicktime)
    cheers and thanks,
    Jon
    G5DP2   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

I use Media Cleaner 6. You can convert DV files to various different formats...
    AVI
    WMV
    MPEG-1
    MPEG-2
    MPEG-4
    QT
    RealMedia
    AIFF
    WAV
    BMP, JPEG, PICT, PNG
    MP3
    (etc.)
...and there's a decent amount of control over the encode settings.
    I think it's about $500 new, $250 used. I guess that could be hideously expensive if you're a freelancer or reasonably-priced if you're working for a post-house.
    Hope that helps!

  • Best for Web viewing

    Hello All,
I was wondering if anyone out there had any suggestions on which is the best way to export my video for web viewing.
Currently I have a project that was only 1.9MB big but when I exported it to a .mov file it came out to be over 350MB large!
My project is currently exporting at 720x480, 29397 [fps], Lower, Quality 50 - Audio at 32000 Hz, Mono, 16bit - DV/DVCPRO - NTSC.
I understand that the 720x480 will have to be reduced and was wonering if anyone out there had any suggestions how to "shrink" the video and make it the best quality for web viewing..
    Thank you!

You are not comparing things correctly. The Project File is no indicator of what the export file is likely to be because it does not include the size of all the clips and media contained in your project.  THe ppj is kind of an organisational list of all your edit decisions and the locations of the media theyrefer to etc...
