Autounlock non-Login keychains on login

The Login keychain gets unlocked automatically on login, if it has the same password as my login password.
Is there a way to have another keychain behave the same, aka. getting unlocked automatically when I login?
Setting the password of this other keychain to my login password doesn't work. Also unchecking the lock after xxx minutes or lock on sleep checkboxes doesn't make the keychain unlocked automatically after a reboot or logout/login, it only helps in that I have to unlock this keychain on once.
Any tip is appreciated.

Hello Sergo,
Thank you for your reply.
my computer name is localhost.
It's a standalone XP pro laptop and I connect with internet via wireless connection. It's not connected with  any Local Network.
Here's how my host file looks like
Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.*
This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.*
This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each*
entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should*
be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.*
The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one*
space.*
Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual*
lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.*
For example:*
     102.54.94.97     rhino.acme.com          # source server*
      38.25.63.10     x.acme.com              # x client host*
127.0.0.1       localhost*
192.168.1.101    localhost
By default IP was 127.0.0.1       localhost
but I changed it to 192.168.1.101    localhost  as this IP was in my TCP/IP properties, did I do it correct?
I've Kaspersky Antivirus running and Windows Firewall on. I'm going to try disable both and restart.
Can you please tell me how to check event log in my XP machine.
Thanks for your time
Asif

  • [SOLVED] ((none)) login/tty and no keyboard after last upgrade?

    Hi,
I dual boot and it's been a while since I last upgraded. I booted into Arch, updated everything, and used the system for a few days before rebooting (perhaps a bad call). I just rebooted today and my login prompt is like this:
    ((none)) tty1
    (none) login:
But my keyboard does nothing. No alt+f* to get to a different terminal, no nothing. I have to hard kill the machine. I've tried twice but would prefer not to do that more than I have to. The second time, fsck didn't work so I booted into the Arch install disk and ran it manually. I tried to chroot into my Arch install and re-run pacman -Syu but got transient server failures. Not sure what all needs to be in place to try and do that, though.
Has anyone encountered anything like this before? I get the same behavior with arch and arch fallback. I boot to login prompt, not directly to X so it's not anything to do with that, at least not that I would figure.
So far, the only thing I've been able to find is from 2007 (LINK) but it seemed related to X. I'm going to check rc.conf next time I boot up but wanted to see if there's any other suggestions from someone more experience before I boot up again and potentially have to hard kill.
    Thanks for any thoughts/suggestions.

    @Knute: indeed.
Somewhat embarrassingly, I just found out about manually maintaining *.pacnew files today when researching an unrelated issue. It made me wonder if that was my problem. Perhaps something is goofed in /etc which would explain a ton.
I'm in OS X right now but will reboot shortly and try to fix this issue.
The keyboard issue is troubling as well, though. Some have reported no logins, but often it's a PAM or login manager issue trying to go into X directly. I'm doing no such thing and literally can't get *anything* to work on my keyboard. That makes me wonder...
If I were to boot into the Arch CD and try to run pacman manually... what do I have to do other than
    # mount /dev/sda3 /mnt
    # chroot /mnt
I tried that yesterday but failed. I'm wondering if I have to mount some other items for that to work. /proc?

  • Path in non-login shells

I just installed using the 0.7-beta cd.  When running X i noticed that my path for non-login shells only includes :/bin:/usr/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/ucb
    This really confuses me :?
EDIT: nevermind, it seems to be fixed now.  Logging out hadnt fixed anything, but killing xdm seemed to
EDIT #2: well the problem came back   It seems to be related to starting in runlevel 5.  If i boot in runlevel 3,login and startx, I have a proper PATH.  If i boot in runlevel 5, login through xdm, i dont have a correct PATH. Does anyone have an idea?  (I would start xdm through rc.conf but there doesnt seem to be a xdm daemon in /etc/rc.d)

The obvious solution is to set PATH in the run configuration.
I had done it but it didn't work for me because I had several run configurations, but I set PATH only in one of them. oops.
I wonder if it is possible to set PATH globally in Eclipse instead of setting it in every single run configuration.

  • [SOLVED]Why does .bash_profile seem tobe read in non-login shells too?

    ~/.bash_profile:
    . $HOME/.bashrc
    ~/.bashrc:
    export PATH=$PATH:$HOME/code/shell
    (irrelevant lines left out)
    (I have no ~/.profile, ~/.bash_login or * ~/.bash_logout. I have also never edited /etc/profile or /etc/bash.bashrc.)
I've read that in a login shell (e.g. TTY1) only the former is read, which in my case sources the latter. Running "export -p" in TTY1 gives a result consistent with this:
declare -x PATH="/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/bin/core_perl:/home/lazar/code/shell" (/home/lazar/code/shell is only listed once)
I've also read that in a non-login shell (e.g. xterm) only the latter is read. However, when I run "export -p" in xterm or urxvt I get an unexpected result:
    declare -x PATH="/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/bin/core_perl:/home/lazar/code/shell:/home/lazar/code/shell" (/home/lazar/code/shell is listed twice!)
This implies that ~.bashrc is read twice, perhaps because .bash_profile is read in non-login shells too, even though it shouldn't be, should it? It doesn't seem to matter really, but I can't help but wonder why...
    [EDIT]
I've found the answer. Exports from .bash_profile are done at boot time and *remain* active while X is active. Opening a non-login shell will cause .bashrc to export as well. Hence the duplication. My solution:
    ~/.bash_profile:
    export PATH=$PATH:$HOME/code/shell
    . $HOME/.bashrc
    ~/.bashrc:
    (lines other than export commands)

As I wondered, I think it's a problem with passwd. I don't have a dbus entry and must have missed it when I was copying things around between my version and the .pacnew. Downloading an install disc now since I can't seem to change it from the recovery console due to mounting root read-only.
I'd love to know of a way to boot that avoids starting dbus and other things that might break while still having read/write access to root. Will mark solved once I update /etc/passwd and reboot.

  • Keychains - security of non-login keychain

I have two keychains on my Mac.
    -Secure items
    They have different passwords.
I use "Secure items" to store stuff that I only ever want to open manually, like FTP logins for client machines, bank info, etc.
"Login" I use in the normal Mac way. Once you're past the Login window it stays open but required password confirmation for admin stuff.
My question: Given the sensitive nature of some of the data in the "Secure items" keychain, is there any way someone who steals my laptop could reset the password of this keychain or is it completely locked and inaccessible even if they were to reset the machine password?
I assume the keychain will be locked and inaccessible, but it would be good to hear it from someone with experience in this.
    Thanks,
    Pat

Not if you've locked the Secure Items keychain and they don't have the tools NSA uses to break coded stuff. See http://images.apple.com/support/security/guides/docs/SnowLeopardSecurity_Configv10.6.pdf for more details.

  • Safari keeps asking for non-signin keychain password

My macbook Pro running OSx10.x keeps asking me for the password for a non-sign-in keychain every time Safari boots-up.

I had similar problems but with me it was the AirPort keychain.
Here's the advice I followed from (16.1.1.1) was in this thread, courtesy of Jim R:
    Hi all,
The trick is to delete the keychain item in the system keychain for the resource that's giving you the trouble, e.g. Airport network password.
    1. Open the Keychain program
    2. Select System keychain.
    3. Select the keychain item you want to delete, and choose Delete from the Edit menu (you won't need to enter a password).
    4. Next time you enter the password to access the network and save to keychain, the item will be recreated.
    Jim R
    (His post is no. 16.1.1.1)
You should find Keychain app in your Utilities folder.
    Hope it works.

  • None stop keychain access notifications since Mavericks update

I keep getting notifications, like the one in the image attached. I keep typing in my password but they still keep coming back. Some of them are for address book (which i don't use) while others are for things I've never heard of. The same ones keep coming back over & over again since I've updated to Mavericks.
Can some please give me detailed instructions as to how to fix this in keychain access?
    Thanks guys!

I mean uncheck the box if you are not using icloud Keychain.

  • Why is login modal?

The apple discussions have a login state and a non-login state.  Thus, we have a modal login. In the login state you see the reply icon at the bottom of a post.  You may create your own post via invoking the reply icon. When not logged in, you do not see the reply icon at the bottome of a post.  You may not create a reply.  You have to login.  At present, I go to some other window to login.  Login.  Come back to this windows and reload the window.
A better GUI would be to include the reply icon on all posts.  If you click on reply and you are not logged in, you would get a little popup box where you could fill in your login information.  Once you filled in your information and it was correct, the reply action would proceed as before.
Other forums do this and it is  simpler.
The rest of the forum software could be implemented with this in mind too.  This would eliminate the modality of login.  It would lessen the hassle we see to day with forced logout.
Modal dialogs went out of favor over ten years ago.

    Hi,
The Login has always been thus.  Or rather as long as my memory serves which is at least the last two Software versions.
I currently use tabs in Firefox.
If I open a second tab in the communities (normally from an Email Subscription alert) but have not logged in and then do what you do/did - then when the Login is complete I am returned to the thread I just opened where I realised I was not logged in, ready to click the reply button.
It seems the software will work with you on this.
I seem to remember that the WebX software did similar where you could select Login in the thread you were in and you were returned there rather than the Index page.  (It may have been that hitting "Reply" took you to the Login page)
If there was a "trick" to getting the last Jive software to do this I never discovered it.

  • X11 login script to append Fink's PATHs

I'm having a problem getting Fink's paths appended to the PATH variable under X11 and make xterm-color the default value for TERM
The last time I solved the problem, I had to add set PATH=$PATH"/sw/bin:/sw/sbin" to my ~/.bash_profile, but I've had no success this time 'round.
Ideally I'd like PATH set system-wide and TERM set only for my account. Ideas?

    > I did not know that... it explains a lot.
Which scripts are sourced in which order and under what circumstances is explained in the "INVOCATION" section of the bash man page. The term that you must "grok" in that section is "login shell". That's essentially the first shell you open after you login to the computer. Subsequent shells that are opened in the same terminal application inherit most of their environment from the login shell.
Traditionally, UNIX geeks passionatly loved one terminal application and vehemently hated all the rest. (riots erupted frequently) As it was unthinkable for any self-respecting geek to use more than one terminal app, bash assumed this inheritence and invokes the ~/.bashrc for non-login shells. This was meant to be a minimal script, used only to fill in the gaps that weren't inherited.
In modern times our sensibilities have evolved and such vehement passion is reserved for the really important things, like sports teams. Unfortunately the authors of bash have not raised their collective consciousness correspondingly. Hence we are stuck with the workaround that Bill suggests: sourcing one of the startup scripts from the other. This has the effect of invoking one personal startup script under all circumstances.
When inheritance does occur, many things are set that were already set but the redundant effort is hardly noticeable on a modern computer. (and thus we have time to support our teams) However, care must be taken in operations that add onto variables lest they grow incessantly. Check out Fink's "append_path" function in their init.sh script for an example of such care.
Now if you want to try a really enlightened shell, check out Bill's zsh on OS X. With zsh you can really tell the difference where the shell meets the road, ... or the rubber meets the rod or something like that.

  • Can no longer add to keychain

In addition to my login keychain, I use a non-login keychain named "base". As of yesterday, I am no longer able to add passwords to base, and I am a little suspicious of the recent security updates.
When I try to add a new password to base, I am prompted to unlock base if necessary, after which I receive the following message:
*An error has occurred. Unable to add an item to the current keychain.*
Could not write to the file. It may have been opened with insufficient access privileges.
    Relevant data points:
    1. The file base.keychain is -rwxr--r-- by myself.
    2. I've been using this keychain for about a year and a half with no prior problems.
    3. Keychain First Aid reports no problems:
         *Verification started*
Checking keychain configuration for nsteiner (user ID=8011)
         Home directory is /Users/nsteiner
         Checked login keychain
         Checked password for ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain
         Checked settings for ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain
         Checked default keychain
         Checked keychain search list
         Checked contents of ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain
         Checked contents of /base.keychain
         No problems found
         *Verification completed*
    4. Restarting Keychain doesn't help.
    5. Rebooting doesn't help.
    6. I can still add passwords to login.keychain.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

To clarify, it turns out that base.keychain does not need any repairing. It merely needs to reside in a writeable directory.
As for moving this keychain to ~/Library/Keychains, I don't doubt that the suggestion is appropriate in general, and that's certainly where my login keychain resides. But I use base.keychain for a variety of sensitive passwords which I cannot afford to lose, some of which have nothing to do with my computer. (Yes, I know this is what backups are for.) I had also contemplated FileVault'ing my home directory at one point, so I wanted to be sure I kept critical passwords accessible no matter what went wrong.
Perhaps / is a bad choice. Perhaps /Library/Keychains would have been better. Where would you put a keychain that didn't really belong under /Users?

  • Keychain issue (I believe)

    Hi all,
Last week my computer started acting up and rendered two of my most used apps unusable. Currently, iMessage does not work on my computer. Messages sent from my phone do not sync, and when I try and send a message from the app, it says that whoever I'm trying to send to is not registered with iMessage, even though they are. Also, my mail app cannot receive or send message and constantly prompts me for the password, which it always rejects. Keep in mind, both messages and mail are working perfectly fine on my phone. I think it's a Keychain issue because while i'm in Safari, i'm occasionally prompted to enter my admin password to unlock vague, non-descript keychains.
    Any ideas on a remedy?
    Thanks so much!

Update: I was able to fix my issue with mail by repairing the keychain and restarting the app, but I'm still having issues with iMessage.

  • [SOLVED] broken system and glibc update

So i tried to update today like any other day and got this error :
error: failed to commit transaction (conflicting files)
    glibc: /lib exists in filesystem
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.
After reading the news i proceed to do : "sudo pacman -Syu --ignore glibc", which worked perfectly but "sudo pacman -Su" kept sending me the previous error.
The command "find /lib -exec pacman -Qo -- {} +" found that no package except glibc owned files in /lib.
Then i red "you can safely remove that directory". So i did "sudo srm -r /lib". Screen went black. I realised my error, panicked and shutdown manually.
When i boot i've got now this :
    error loading shared libraries libdl.so.2
    (none) login :
(and a /bin/bash error i forgot to wrote down)
I'm on an ubuntu partition right now. The symlink /lib/libdl.so.2 is broken. And i'm desperate, any help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance
    (Sorry for my bad english)

  • Boot-up fails after pacman update

Recent update of many pkgs failed to load after downloading.
    The boot stops at :

Attempts to login fail (probably because I don't know what should go for login)
The hdd can be addressed from another hdd boot-up and all partitions accessed.

As posted previously, a recent upgrade was followed by a failure to load the downloaded packages.  None of these packages were kernel upgrades and lilo run would not be necessary thereafter.

I note that (none)login:   appears with an ID name in place of (none) in this clone HDD when opting for console login from the kde window options, so that element is missing in the other hard drive.
How to replace (none) with the right ID is the problem solution.

  • Using /etc/bash.bashrc to set system-wide alias

    Hi,
I would like to set some system-side aliases and from what I read /etc/bash.bashrc is the correct place to put them.
However, it seems that the root account doesn't load this file.
What is the correct way to define system-wide aliases?
    Thanks.

To be more specific, the aliases are not visible when I use a login shell i.e. 'su -'.
According this explanation http://stefaanlippens.net/bashrc_and_others this is correct.
So, do I need to duplicate the aliases in /etc/profile so they are visible from login shells?  Or there is a way to define system-wide aliases for
    login and non-login shells?
    Thx.
