B & N Nook

I have purchased a new B & N Nook simple touch and I need to D/L the Adobe Digital Edition but I can't find it.

You download and install Digital Editions (ADE) on a Windows or Mac computer,
and then transfer books from that to the Nook.
You can download ADE from http://www.adobe.com/uk/products/digital-editions/download.html
There are lots of buts in the latest version, so also consider ...
There are lots of bugs in ADE2.0 (and 2.0.1).  Try replacing ADE2.0 with the older but more reliable v1.7.2.
(You can have them both installed at once if you like.)
Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.

  • Email address change--how does this affect laptop and nook?

I use my Adobe ID only to authorize my laptop and Nook.  I need to change my email address which seems easy on the FAQs, but how do I then reauthorize my laptop and Nook?  And, if I do this, are all my existing library books unreadable since they were downloaded by what the Nook thinks is a different user?  I'm almost sure I won't be able to return any books in ADE on my laptop, but I can live with that if I can still read the books on the Nook.
    Thanks in advance.

The sync process with iTunes transfers the email account settings (for your chosen accounts via your iPhone sync preferences) from the Mail application on your Mac to the iPhone's email application.
The iPhone is running OS X and the iPhone's email client can be considered a mobile version of the Mail application.

  • I can no longer read any material in nook for mac. I have a macbook pro running lion. I used to be able to but something changed and i can no longer read it. any help?

I have nook for mac loaded on my macbook pro. When I try to open a book or magazine nothing happens. I`ve downloaded the nook program twice thinking it was a bad download but to no avail. Any help?

I found the following suggested fix, posted by a user on Barnes & Noble's site:
    1. Create a folder in your Applications folder, call it: NOOKforMac
Once you've done this, copy the Nook app to this folder. This should allow the app to run on the 1st or possibly second attempt to launch it.
    2. Once you're done using the app always quit it by clicking on the X (red in some cases) button of the application window (upper left hand corner)
This seems to have resolved the issue and my guess is that somehow the .dmg volume path is somewhere hard coded in the app configuration.

  • Installing Adobe for Nook and Library Books

I was attempting to install Adobe Digital Edition to download books from my library to my Nook Simple Touch.  I made an error and authorized without registering with an Adobe ID.  I have now acquired an Adobe ID.  I can get the library book to my computer, but it is not available to transfer to my Nook.  How do I fix this?
    Thanks

Moving this discussion to the Adobe Digital Editions forum.
You can perform the following steps to deauthorize and reauthorize Adobe Digital Editions.
    Open Adobe Digital Editions.
Press Control-Shift-D (Windows) or Shift-Command-D (Mac OS) to deauthorize Adobe Digital Editions.
Choose Help > Authorize Adobe Digital Editions.

  • Color Nook can no longer access library . . How can I resolve this problem?

I have a Color Nook. Recently it was updated automatically. Since the update I can no longer enjoy reading the library books I once could. I used  Overdrive and Adobe Digital Editions to access my county library in the past but can no longer access it.. I get an error message of E_AUTH_BAD_DEVICE_KEY. Apparently I have lost authorization to the AdobeID server.
How do I resolve this problem?

Well, you could start by asking in the Digital Editions forum,

  • Nook not recognized on desktop

After loading Lion, my destop can't detect my nook when usb-d.  I can't drag and drop my public library books int.o Adobe Digital Editions.  I took the nook down and rebooted it completey, but the macbookpro still doesn't see it on the desktop, nor can I find it in the "Finder"  I deleted the Adobe and redownloaded it, but that didn't seem to do anything either.

Hey guys, I recommend anyone experiencing this issue to check this thread out, it may help you for now, until they get a proper driver software release, but in the mean time we should also keep reminding them is their duty to provide full support for both architectures.
To be honest, RIM has disappointed me big time, It is not like we got the smartphones for free, we paid $$$ for them and got them only because we needed something to help us be more productive, not something that just keeps putting obstacles and impairing our productivity.
Well, I think I've learned my lesson, and regret my choice , but wait...  next time I'm getting an IPhone!!!.
Hope this helps  with your problem (at least for now).

  • How do I activate my Nook on Digital Editions?

I have Adobe Digital Editions.  It downloads books from the library and I put them on the Nook.  when I open the book in the Nook, it says "This device is not activated"  I have no idea how to solve this.

  • How do I get my nook authorized

when I hooked my nook to my computer and then opened Adobe Digital editions it did not give me the opportunity to enter my adobe ID and will not let me copy downloaded library books from the digital editions to my nook, help?

There are separate steps ~ just checking exactly what you have and haven't done.
Have you entered the Adobe ID to ADE (Digital Editions).  That should be possible whether or not any eReader is plugged in?
If you haven't done that and it isn't working, try suggestion (1) below.
If you have got over registration of ADE, does the Nook show up at all in ADE in the left panel?
If it doesn't, try step (2) ... one of the ADE2.0 bugs is that it doesn't work correctly with some devices.
    (1) ~~~~~
Sometimes ADE gets its registration/activation confused and in a semi-authorized state.
Uninstalling and reinstalling does not help.
Unfortunately, it often then gives misleading error messages about what is wrong.
A common incorrect message informs you that the ID is already in use on another computer and cannot be reused.
This can often be resolved by completely removing any authorization using ctrl-shift-D to the Library screen on ADE (cmd-shift-D if on Mac).
Restart ADE, and then reauthorize with your (old) Adobe ID.
In extreme cases on the mac, the following extra step has helped some people.  Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash. If you are using 10.7, see Access hidden user library files | Mac OS 10.7 Lion. http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1265248?tstart=0

Some people have found ADE trying to upgrade automatically.
It appears (not 100% sure) that if you install ADE2.0 as a new install (not as an upgrade) that your 1.7.2 will continue to run.
Probably best to say no if 2.0.x installation asks if you want to migrate your library.

  • HELP!!! I Can't Authorize My Nook

I've tried everything posted on this site to get my nook authorized to read the books from the public library.
I deleted Adobe and relaunched it,but it still won't authorize my device. Any advice would be helpful. I'm ready to return it,
but it's for my daughter. I have the Nook Color and it works just fine with it.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Is ADE seeing your Nook? (eg showing in left side pane of ADE)
The Nook may have got half-authorised.
Try to clear any old Nook authorization with Nook plugged in and ctrl-shift-E to ADE in Library view (cmd-shift-E on Mac).
Restart ADE and try again to authorize the Nook.

  • Nook simple touch

i have nook simple touch activated and connected to pc, when i open adobe, it shows the nook and my library books, but if i click/drag book to nook, it shows the red no symbol, and will not tranfer  the book, how do i fix it, or get the book onto my nook?

Assuming that you have got the computer activated and the books downloaded to the computer:
The Nook may have got half activated.  In that case, deactivate it using ctrl-shift-E while in Library view ADE with the Nook plugged in.
Then restart ADE (maybe not needed) and try to activate the Nook again.
If it is the computer that won't activate, similar story.
Use ctrl-shift-D in ADE library view to deactivate the computer.  Restart ADE and reactivate the computer.
If you still have issues, try using the older more reliable ADE 1.7.2 instead.
Version 1.7.2, it is a little difficult to find, available on Adobe site for Windows and for Mac.

  • I successfully downloaded an EPUB book, but it won't let me read it on my NOOK, why?

I borrowed a book from my library's online eBook selection and successfully got it to ADE. After that I finally got it to my NOOK. Then when I opened it it said: Error Dialog User not activated. Is it because either my computer or NOOK is not authorized? If so I already authorized by computer and I'm not sure about my NOOK but it does show up in ADE. Please help!

If that doesn't work , try this (it has a few more extra steps)
    1) plug in your nook via USB and delete the digital editions folders.
    2) properly eject and unplug your nook from your computer.
    3) uninstall ADE and then reinstall ADE from the website (surprise! there is a 2.0 version out there...this is the underlying issue, i think)
    4) delete any library books from ADE but don't return them (right click on the books and say remove from library  don't use the return feature.  if you return them, you'll have to reborrow.  deleting them doesn't do anything except dissassociate them from ADE. i read somwhere that the next step wipes out the lending info from ADE, so i did this just in case that meant it would return my items.  this step may be entirely unnecessary, but better safe than sorry).
    5) once you open the new version of ADE, hit control+shift+d.  it will ask you if you want to erase your previous authorization FOR YOUR COMPUTER. you do, so say yes.  once you remove your previous authorization for your computer, then go to help...authorize computer.  put in your adobeID information.  this will reauthorize your computer to use ADE.
    6) plug in your nook via USB.  once you see it appear in the ADE bookshelves, clik on the little gear icon (settings) and click on authorizedevice.  it'll reauthorize your nook with the new nook software version andthe new ADE software version.
    7) redownload your library books (if you followed step 4) and transfer them to your nook as usual.

  • I'm using ADE with a Mac and have successfully downloaded library books for a few years; suddenly today the books are downloading to the Finder but do not show up in ADE so that they can be put on my Nook.

Is anyone suddenly having trouble using Adobe Digital Editions on a Mac to download library books?  I have been using this to load books on to my Nook and suddenly, out of nowhere, everything is downloading to the Finder app.  ADE pops up like it always has when I download from the library website, but the book does not show up there.
    Has something changed?

    1. iTunes won't offer cloud downloads for songs that it "thinks" are in your library, even if it "knows" the files are missing. If you've exhaustively searched for the missing files and there is no prospect of repair by restoring to them to their original locations, or connecting to new ones, then delete that tracks that display both the missing exclamation mark and are of media kind Purchased/Protected AAC audio file. Don't hide from iTunes in the cloud when asked, close iTunes, then reopen. You can download from the cloud links or iTunes Store > Quicklinks > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer > All songs > Download all.
    2. Why? Not sure, perhaps 3rd party tools or accidental key presses combined with previously hidden warning messages when trying to organize the library. There is a hint that using the feature to downsample media as it is synced to a device may also be involved, though I've not replicated it. Whatever the reason a backup would protect your media.

  • NOOK Simple Touch says "Error Dialog: user not activated" whenever I try to open e-books?

I have had my Nook Simple Touch for about a year now, and I have been using Adobe Digital Editions without a problem. Now, all of the sudden, Barnes and Noble updated my software and I can't read any of my ADE books!! It just says "Error Dialog: User not activated" every time I click on them. I have looked at many other websites and I have tried plugging my nook in to my computer and reauthorizing it, reauthorizing my computer, deleting the digital editions file and .adobe-digital-editions file, redownloading my books, turning my nook off and on, crying, and screaming. The weird thing is, in all the instructions, it says a pop-up box will come up when I delete the files, but it never does. Is that normal? I always have to do it manually by clicking on the gear. I even made sure I "unhid" all the hidden files. I HAVE DONE EACH OF THESE AT LEAST 5 TIMES AND THEY NEVER WORK!!! HELP ME, PLEASE.
Also, a lot of the websites say to make sure your Barnes and Noble ADE I.D. is the same as the one on your ADE computer I.D.. Is the B&N ADE I.D. different from just the Barnes and Noble ID? Becasue I have been using my sisters email for my computer ADE and my email for the B&N I.D.. Are they supposed to be the same? If so, how come I was able to use it without a problem before?? I tried reauthorizing ADE with my email, because I also have an ADE account with my email, but then it wouldn't let me redownload my books onto the new account. Does this mean I have to change the ADE computer I.D. and wait until my books are available again to read them? Is that the way to fix it? UGH!
    Help is much appreciated.
    P.S. I have ADE version 2.0

Just to clarify, there are two levels of Authorization -- one for the ADE software and one for the nook. You have to use your Adobe account to authorize both (and they have to be authorized with the same user name). It sounded like your original problem (Kcoline) was with the Nook authorization, and it was the same problem the rest of us were having.
To get your files back, I suggest carefully reading over the "Activation and Authorization" section of the ADE help. It appears that ADE will automatically find your files but note the "Note" in quoted text below...
    http://www.adobe.com/products/digitaleditions/help/
"After activation, any books, magazines, or other documents you previously bought with Adobe Acrobat® or Reader® software are migrated to Adobe Digital Editions. This is usually a relatively quick process. Adobe Digital Editions opens each item and reverifies its license to the user. If you don't have DRM-protected items, you don't need to be online during the migration. If you have a large number of items (for example, more than 100), then this process may take a while, but you will see a progress bar indicating the state of the migration as it proceeds.
Note: Items that you previously borrowed from a public library with Adobe Acrobat® or Reader® software are not migrated to Adobe Digital Editions. You need to return the library item and then borrow the item again with Digital Editions."
If it's not finding your files, it may be because they're located in a folder different from the one that ADE is trying to use to find them.
You may also want to check the "Transferring items between computers" section, as this describes where the files should be located, and how to reimport them into your library.
    Good luck!

  • I am trying to open a library book on my nook simple touch, but it says the device is not authorized. However, when plugged in my PC, it says it is authorized.

I used the Adobe Digital handbook to trouble shoot, but it didn't help. I ensured my connection to WiFi was working, it is. I un-authorized, then re-authorized my nook, and it still didn't work.

    Moved to Adobe Digital Editions
There is no version of Adobe Digital Editons for the nook that I am aware of. Just Mac or Windows. There may be a version of Bluefire Reader or OverDrive for the Nook as I do not have one I do not know if that is so. There are versions for the Andriod OS.

  • Program crashes when I try to load EPUB/ASCM ebook file or transfer the file to Nook ereader.

I recently checked out an ebook from my library's OverDrive and downloaded the EPub file to my Mac OS 10.10.1 computer. File downloaded to computer without incident, showing up as a acsm file in my Downloads folder. But when I attempt to open the file in Adobe Digital Editions 4.0.2 in order to transfer it to my Nook ereader, a message comes up saying it is fulfilling (similar to normal) but then the program crashes.
    I get this error message:
    (Adobe Digital Editions quit unexpectedly.
Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more
detailed information and send a report to Apple.
With buttons that say: Ignore    Report     Reopen)
Then when I reopen Adobe Digital Editions, it appears as thought the file is in the Adobe Digital Editions browser, but if I click on it to open it or try and transfer it to my Nook ereader device the program crashes again. (Same error message)
I've tried erasing the file and redownloading the ebook from Google Chrome, Safari and Firefox and the same thing happens. I've also tried restarting my computer and looking for updates to resolve the issue (there were none). I've used this program before with no issues, so this problem is new. I've also tried opening other files since, they most of those seem to open as well.I've used this program before with no issues, so this problem is new.
Running out of ideas. Please help!

Mike, that worked -- I think! I couldn't change the printer without a document open, but while I was in the File menu, I noticed the "Browse in Bridge" command, and it occurred to me that I hadn't tried opening a file from Bridge. It opened first to the templates, and I realized I had not tried opening a template. So I did, that worked, and I changed the printer from where it was set (Adobe pdf) to my regular printer. Now I can create new files, and all files seem to open without a problem. Thanks!

  • Why does my nook open iphoto when i plug it in the usb port on the back of my imac running 10.6.8

I have downloaded Adobe Digital Editions and downloaded Overdrive from the public library. When I plug the Nook eReader in the USB port in the back of the iMac, iPhoto opens immediately. I know this is not a forum for Nook eReaders, but I have to start somewhere and figured since iPhoto is opening automatically, maybe someone can give me a clue.
    thank you,

Most likely, because your Mac and iPhoto think that you have connected a camera or mass storage device that has images on it.
Not sure where to go from there, but I would start by looking at the setting in both iPhoto Preferences and Image Capture if I wanted iPhoto to ignore that device.
