Backed up 40GB / 14,000 photos to Carbonite. B/U said 40GB / 48,000 files. Why?

Hi. (Numbers above are rounded off). Carbonite tech support couldn't explain it. During a test folder restore, the photos came back fine. All folders seemed to be in place. I noticed that if I delete files within LR it does NOT lower the Carbonite count. So it begs the question... Over the course of time, many of the photos that I worked on and then exported into a separate LR folder were subsequently deleted (from disk). In other words, I take a RAW photo, adjust it and export it into another part of LR as a jpeg and then delete the RAW files from the HD.
Is it possible that the deleted files left some mark in LR that Carbonite interpreted as a file? Maybe related to the catalog? How else could 14,000 photos be recorded by Carbonite as about 48,000 files? Especially with the same total volume.
Anyone using Carbonite have this experience? If not, I will delete the Carbonite B/U, wait a week and try again. Naturally, I would like to avoid that. Thanks much, Andy8400

Probably make sense to ask this another way:
To any Carbonite user: Did your Carbonite backup info approximately reflect the number of files (photos) that you actually uploaded from Lightroom?
Thanks much,
Andy8400

Could something from Bitdefender be activated somehow and slowing my computer down?
Yes. Back up all data, then uninstall "Bitdefender" completely according to the developer's instructions -- NOT by dragging an application to the Trash or hunting for files by name.

    Hi iris117,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
One thing you can do if you can't just upload the photos individually, is to take a screen shot of your Pages document.  Here's how:

This can happen if the HD icon is inadvertently dragged to the iPhoto Window.
Easiest solution: restore from your back up.

  • Advice on backing up/viewing/preserving valuable photos.......?

    Hello,
I have searched the archives, and cannot find the exact answer to my questions..
Here's what I have, and what I would LIKE to do:
I have a Powerbook G4 with over 8,000 photos on it. I also have small quicktime? videos (30 second clips) I have imported from my photo camera. I have a Seagate external HD which has approximately 360gb of space on it. I also have an Appletv.
I want to delete all duplicate photos/videos first to save some hd space. (I had previously imported duplicates, and never deleted them, so I have some doubles)
I would like to back up ALL of my photos and videos to dvd. Many are valuable to me (like most peoples photos) and I want to put them onto DVD and store them into my fire safe. I used an awesome program in the past (recommended here of course) to "stitch" all of my small clips onto a dvd that could be played in my dvd player and it's awesome.
How do I separate the pics from the clips and burn them ALL onto a dvd that could be played in my dvd player as a slideshow?
    Is this possible?
I know it is but don't know how to do it. Could I drag all of my photos into idvd and burn a disk like that?
Lots of questions, so bear with me....
I guess I can keep the photos on the Powerbook and sync them with Appletv to be able to view them on my tv? I'm not quite sure what to do with them. I still want to have them backed up to my external hd just in case my hd crashes....
When I make a backup onto dvd, do I just select backup library to dvd from the dropdown window at the top of iPhoto?
Please help me organize my life with these photos. It concerns me that they are all on my hd and are not backed up. I suppose I could just backup the library every few months too since dvd's are quite inexpensive too.....?
IF, I decide to get a Windows platform in the future, will I be able to view the photos I backed up in iPhoto to dvd will be viewable on the Windows platform?
Thanks for your help in reading this, I really appreciate all of the help I have received from the discussion forums. Lots of questions, please help!

    Check out Duplicate Annihilator
I would like to back up ALL of my photos and videos to dvd.
Use iPhoto’s Share -> Burn command. This will recreate the iPhoto Library on the Disk and make recovering the files into iPhoto simple if the worst happens.
How do I separate the pics from the clips and burn them ALL onto a dvd that could be played in my dvd player as a slideshow?
    Use iDVD.
Could I drag all of my photos into idvd and burn a disk like that?
Best to use the Media Browser in iDVD
IF, I decide to get a Windows platform in the future, will I be able to view the photos I backed up in iPhoto to dvd will be viewable on the Windows platform?
To do this: select the pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pics to a folder on the desktop. Then burn that to disk using the Finder.

  • My iPhone 4 was run over at work worked fine  for 5 days then got really hot and shut down. I can not get it to power back up. I have photos that were not backed up is there anyway that I can retrieve my photos from the phone?

MY iPhone 4 was run over at work by a forklift the screen was badly cracked but other than that worked fine for 6 days. Then it got really hot while charging and shut down and will not  power back up. I have photos on this phone that we're not backed up to I cloud is there any way to retrieve my photos from this phone?

No. You probably should have backed it up while it was working during those 6 days...

  • How to back up a group of photos in iPhoto to an external hard drive

how to back up a group of photos[an album] in iPhoto to an external hard drive. not taking them out of iPhoto just backing up

If you're not taking them out of iPhoto, then you need to back up the iPhoto Library:
    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store

  • I have an old MacBook (Mac OSX 10.5.8) with iPhoto '08.  Is there any way to back up not only the photos, but the way I have organized them into events and labeled them?

I have an old MacBook (Mac OSX 10.5.8) with iPhoto '08.  Is there any way to back up not only the photos, but the way I have organized them into events and labeled them?

    Yes. Back up the Library.

  • How can I back up 8 gigs of photos to a disc?

My folder has gotten too big. how do I save 8 gigs of pics to a dvd for archive?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. If you want to archive only the original files and none of the iPhoto library organization, i.e. events, keywords, etc., you can use BurnToDisc for iPhoto which will burn your selected photos to disk and will burn to multiple disks if you've selected more that can fit on a single disk.
Otherwise follow Terence's suggestion on burning groups of Events via the Share->Burn menu in iPhoto.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Yes you should be able to log into iCloud on a Mac from system preferences > iCloud and set up photostream to download any photos that are there. You should also be able to use your iCloud back up to restore any replacement phone to reflect the phone you lost.
