Background image not cached in browser
Hi,
Using JDeveloper 11g R1.
We have a template, with a PanelGroupLayout component with a background image, like follows:
<af:panelGroupLayout layout="horizontal"
inlineStyle="width:100%; height:2px; background-image:url("images/separacioRalles.jpg"); background-repeat:repeat-x;"
id="pt_pgl5">
In runtime, the request made by the browser includes and _adf.ctrl-state=xxxxxx parameter, which I supose causes the browser not checking the cache.
image/jpeg http://127.0.0.1:7101/ViewController-context-root/faces/images/separacioRalles.jpg?_adf.ctrl-state=1bn1yq032y_79
Is there any way to avoid this _adf.ctrl-state? or another way to set the desired background?

Comparing with an af:image component:

the request received on the server:

If I put the contextroot in the background-image:url (background-image:url("/ViewController-context-root/images/separacioRalles.jpg"), it works fine.
127.0.0.1 - weblogic [28/ago/2009:10:44:28 +0200] "GET /ViewController-context-root/images/separacioRalles.jpg HTTP/1.1" 304 0
So seems that the background image url is not built in the same way as using af:image component.

I have searched the forum but I'm not finding a solution that
works.
I'm trying to put a background .png image in a header. It
shows up in Dreamweaver but not in preview mode. I have an external

Image in template background do not appear in browser
Hello all
I run a site ( http://ntp.neuroscience.wisc.edu/ ) that uses templates for backgrounds/spry menus for its pages. We currently use three templates to display backgrounds across the site and up until a few days ago everything displayed fine, until suddenly the main banner picture (bannerIndex.jpg) dissapeared from across all our pages, both in IE8 and Firefox 3.5. It used to display above the red spry menu tabs on the top of the whitespace. Check the index.dwt file attached to see where exactly. To my memory I didnt edit any of the templates or delete any of the image files, much less reupload the templates or download them from the remote server. I went back and reinserted all the pics into the templates, made sure they were attached to their right pages, and uploaded everything, but to no avail. the only major edit to the site I can remember that might have had an effect was that I rearraged some files on the local/remote server, but the shifts were within the same directory level and the files involved were not templates. I shifted everything back to their original order and still the problem persists. I'm attaching the code below (site first follow by the template which attaches to it) as it shows in the dreamweaver code editor (i'm using dreamweaver cs3) and I'll also attached the actual html and dwt files. again, the picture that does not show is bannerIndex.jpg and it should be above the spry menu tabs.

Just 1 Background image to fill the browser & NOT tiled images
After reading some of the suggestions given in this forum, I gather that I have to use CSS to get around this problem. What I did was:
in a Notepad text editor, typed & saved as mystyle.css

Spry Menu Background image not working in IE
I have created a website using Dreamweaver CS5 and having trouble with my Spry bar in internet explorer. It looks great in chrome, firefox, etc, but in IE there is a white background instead of my background image and the submenus have moved WAY right.. can someone help me!

How to get background image to fill the browser and remain fixed in both IE and Firefox?
Basically what it says in the title. I've come very close in achieving this but something just doesn't tie up in the html and css code...
First of all, I'm using IE8 and the latest version of Firefox to test this.
I used 2 sources of information for getting this done: 1) http://css-tricks.com/perfect-full-page-background-image/ and 2) http://stackoverflow.com/questions/8958697/css3-background-size-cover-doesnt-make-image-co ver-vertically
In Case 1 the example on the page called CSS-Only Technique #1 gives code that works almost perfectly for me, except that obviously I need a background image, however the CSS provided there is clearly just for an image dropped in the body of a page with no regard for other content that may already be there. The html code that I put on the page is simply <img class="bg" src="../images/background_image.jpg">
Obviously I used the CSS code provided in the example, minus the last bit which is "@media screen" etc etc, which seems irrelevant to me. Obviously substituting values to suit the image on my page.
So what happened is that it almost worked as intended in both the browsers (which means the image filled both browsers width-wise as intended and also remained fixed when I zoomed in or out in each case) except that the image went over the top of the current content that I had there already precisely because it's not a background in this "technique". (A curious side-note is that the image didn't push down the content, as I'd have expected in normal circumstances, but went right over the top of it so it hid it (like z-index).
One thing that does bother me about this "technique" is that if you click on View Demo just below the code provided you will see on the working example page (forest background) the image clearly works as a background and the content sits happily on top! So I don't know whether the person providing the example was trying to mislead people or what! Or he got lazy and showed a different page that didn't use the exact code he provided. No matter.
In any case this leaves me with the job only half finished, as I still need a background image that works like the 'normal image' code provided.
On to Case 2 and on this page the first example provided gives the CSS for the background image - namely the code within html {...} part and also shows the same 'normal image' code as given in Case 1. In this case however, although the person provided a suggestion, the css and html doesn't really tie up properly plus some of the css and html seems a bit redundant. So this time when I used the 'html portion' of the CSS code (i.e. just the bit that was most relevant) I got two different behaviours in each browser and neither of which was quite what I'm looking for. In IE8 initially the page looks fine (background fills the page and content is on top) however when I zoom in or out the background also zooms in or out accordingly so is NOT fixed. In Firefox the background image DOES stay fixed, however because the image originally is not the whole height of the browser I'm guessing the code stretches it downwards (while keeping proportions - so the image essentially enlarges) to fill all of it. The quick way to get around it is to probably add some white space to the bottom of the image just to give it enough height that it doesn't stretch/resize automatically. But it would be nice to find out anyway how to get around this in the code. Overall I would say that the result in Firefox comes closest to the desired solution but of course it doesn't help matters with IE8.
Apologies for the lengthy description but that should at least provide plenty info for anybody that might have a possible solution for me. Essentially what would be great is if somebody could advise me how to take the code from Case 1 and apply it to a 'background' piece of coding like the type that's contained within html {...} in Case 2. Like I said, it's so nearly there but I just can't make it work atm after trying to combine the various bits of code this way and that... Alternatively, if somebody has another html-css version that works nicely for achieving this then please by all means let me know! Background image not displaying
I'm developing pages that will each have a different background image. i've defined a div with the bg image in it and put that div in the code, but the bg image doesn't show up. i've also tried adding a bg color to the div and that doesn't show up either, so i'm sure it's not a path or file name issue. css & code below.

Images require an alt attribute for better web accessibility. If you want to skip this for now and add them later, that's OK.

Background image not repeating in IE6
I have a background image in a cell of a 1x1 table -

the image is set to repeat x and y.
In FF2 and IE7 it displays as expected.
In IE6 the background image is not repeated
For the moment I've increased the size of the image to
compensate - but
obviously I would like to know what I have done wrong. It's a
very temporary
fix anyway as increasing the text in IE6 shows the text
dropping out the
bottom of the background image.
JoI was trying to find this the other day - something to do
with /75 being the
percentage of transparency I think.
Frankly I would love to use an "easy way out" - I have tried
and failed
despite having been given some excellent help - how oh how
please do I do
this?

SidThanks for the response Gary. However, the 35px that you're seeing is actually for the #nav. I recreate the css and tried to remove some of the heirarchy thing. Here's the updated copy. I even tried to remove the #main_container. Same thing happens, the bg image is still not appearing? I tried changing the file type to JPG but to no avail. I think I'm overlooking something which is causing the issue.

Using the af:image tag generates a http 302 redirect - image not cached
Using jdev 11.1.1.3.0 - I have a page template that displays a logo on top with the af:image tag. On my browser I have installed a sniffer called HttpWatch. When I look at the http requests I see that the image is never cached. Instead it shows a http return code of 302 (redirect) for the request fetching the image. the h:graphicImage tag does not have this behavior. Is this by design?

don't know the code detail of h:graphicImage, but the ADF Faces image component reads the image from the resource loader (which is a servlet), which is not the same as just referencing the file on the public directory of the deployed application. So I assume that this is the reason why the image is not cached.

Body background image not displaying in IE6
I've looked at lots of questions about background image problems in IE6 but didn't see an answer to this one. I have a horizontal stripe on the page that's made of a background image in the <body> tag. The home page has a different size stripe than the subpages, so on the subpages I'm using a class style to call the background image.
The home page body style looks like this:

And the subpages use this class style:

It works in all browsers except IE6, which loads the background image on the home page but not the subpages. So I suspect it's the class style it doesn't like. Is there an IE6 fix that will get it to work correctly?

How do I adjust my background image to fit my browser
I have a background image that it 1600 x 1200 and when I try to view in browser, almost half the image gets cut off. How do I adjust the size to fit my browser or even adjust it to fit any browser?
1600 x 1200 is a huge image by web standards. Images don't resize to fill viewport without workarounds (tricks). And while Martin's solution works in some browsers, it's not bulletproof. Downsides may outweigh advantages.
For best cross browser results (including older IE), establish a fixed page width of say 1000px to fit on average displays. Center your page layout.
Open your image in Photoshop or Fireworks and resize it to 1000 x 750. Your image won't fill the viewport but it will fit your page width.

DIV Background image not displaying in FF
Hi!
I'm building a floated 3 column DIV layout with a wrapper to center the DIVs. I put a background image in the wrapper to give the appearance of the columns stretching to the bottom of the layout. It displays in IE, but not in FF.
If I give the wrapper a height, the background image shows, but I want the layout to expand as I enter content. My code is below.
I must be missing something. Any tips?

MS Word Background image not converting
I have Microsoft Word 2007 & Acrobat Pro 9. I created a document in Word, and that doc has a background image. However, when I try to convert it to a PDF, one of two things happens: 1) the PDF is created with no background image, or 2) the background image is reduced in size & tiled in repeating rows in the background. Neither of these is acceptable! I've tried the following:
From in Word -->Print-->Acrobat PDF
From Acrobat -->Create PDF-->From File
From Word -->Save As-->PDF
From Acrobat-->set background image
This is quite frustrating, since I don't want to re-do everything in Photoshop just to render the PDF properly. I set the image as a background in Word because I want it to cover the whole 8.5"x11" space without any margins. The image is a 95 dpi JPG sized at 8.5"x11"You may need to check Acrobat and be sure you have Display Large Images selected. If that is not the issue, it may be a setting in your print options of WORD. Programs like WORD and PPT often have the default set to not print background images because they use so much toner in a regular printer. Since you are using a digital printer that option is not needed.
