Background Jobs running for long time.

Dear All,
I had done the Homogeneous System Copy on my ECC 6 QA System successfully by restoring the offline backup of Production system. My system is up & running but  I have some Performace issues in the system. I also observed that some jobs are running since long time & most commonly i got the below line in the BGD Trace "WP has reached abap/heaplimit = 40000000 bytes".
I search for the notes but couldn't find anything.
Please help me to resolve this issue.
Below is the Trace :-

Thanks,

Hi Shambo
have you checked the oracle parameters as per the sap note 830576,and also the backup which you have taken is a logical backup,in that case you have to run the update database statistics either from DB13 or BRTOOLS
also check ST04 and also ST02 to do a  performance tuning
I believe its more Database Parameter issue

  • Background job running for a long time - trace is not capturing.

    hi guys,
My background job runs for more thatn 4 hours.  some times. (normally it completes withing one hour)
i tried to trace using st12 ....and executed this program. but not got complete trace report of 4 hours.
what is the best way to trace long running programs like this.
is there any alternative for this...???
    regards
    girish

    Giri,
There is no need to trace a program for the full 4 hours. There is usually just one piece of rogue code causing the problem, and it can be identified quite quickly.
If I were you I would just watch the job run via SM50, to see if it lingers on any database tables. Also check if the memory is filling up - this is the sign of a memory leak.
You can also try stopping the program (via SM50 debugging) at random points, to see what piece of code it is stuck in.
The issue should reveal itself fairly quickly.
    Tell us what you find!
    cheers
    Paul

  • ABAP process job ( BI_PROCESS_ABAP ) in process chain running for long time

    Dear Experts,
We have an ABAP process job  BI_PROCESS_ABAP  in a process chain. This job is running for a very long time than previous run time.
Recently we had an ORACLE database upgrade from 9.2 to 10g.
From the very next day , we are having this problem.
And also previously this process-chain was under control of BASIS guys . they were using a tool called CRONACLE to schedule it. At the time of upgrade this tool was crashed and they asked us to schedule it in BW system instead.
Underlying program is using two custom tables.
one is having both primary & secondary indexes but the other table is having only primary index.
I am not sure whether we have secondary indexes on other table prior to upgrade or not.
    Where must be the problem?...
At the time of upgrade BASIS has re-organized the table space along with database upgrade.
    please help me...
    Regards,
    SRIKANTH

Please ask yr basis consultant to check the system parms.
Below i have listed down SAP recommneded system parms .
    abap/heap_area_total 4000000000
    abap/heap_area_dia 2000000000
    abap/heap_area_nondia 2000000000
Also check in SM37 if any other jobs are running for long time, peventing the your job running.
Check the SM12 for locks or SM58

  • Report running for long time & performance tuning

    Hi All,
(1). WebI report is running for long time.so what are the steps i need to check for it ?
(2). Can you tell me about performance tuning in BO ?
    please help me.....
    Thanks
    Kumar

(1). WebI report is running for long time.so what are the steps i need to check for it ?
The first step is to see if the problem lies in the query on the data source or in webi itself. Depending on the data source there are different ways to extract the query and try to run it against the database. Which source does your report uses?
(2). Can you tell me about performance tuning in BO ?
I would recommend to start by reading the administrator's guide. There is a section about how to improve performance.

  • ECC6 upgrade phase XPRAS_UPG running for long time

    Hi,
    I am performing a Downtime minimized upgrade (MODPROF_TRANS) from R34.7ext2 to ECC6.0 / Windows2003/MSSQL2005
Currently i am in the phase XPRAS_UPG .It is running for really long time.I tried to reset the phase but still went on for more than 10 hrs. I initialized the phase now its running for more than 7 hours. There are no processes when i check in SM50 and no log files updated. There is no log file called XPRAS_UPG.ELG.SM37 no jobs running.
Though if it takes long time , How do i confirm that my upgrade phase is running ??????????as its not updating anything
In PARDIST_SHD phase when there was en error , i have manuall deleted the DB trigger acording to the note 956198. And the phase went on.
Now after reading few messages reg this error , i checked DB02 but no locks on any table . Have cheked note 558197,1292069,1142410,1138351,1062559,597885,551298. But nothings applicable in my case.
    Please suggest ...
    will really appreciate your help.
    Chandra

    Dear Chandra,
Regarding long runtime for XPRAS phase kindly note the following:
    1. The reason of slow performance of XPRAS phase can vary differently.
Basically during XPRAS phase, there're a lot of reports to run. These
reports are inlcuded in the transport requests(both upgrade
requests and support packages). If there's a performance problem,
it very likely the database performance problem, such as wrong
access plan was chosen, or missing index, etc.
    2. To find out the performance problems in the XPRAS, you can always
logon into the system. During the XPRAS phase, the system has to be up and running.
In SM50, usually you can find which report is running, and/or which table is being accessed.
If you find some table accesses take unusually long time, please
record the table name and find the SQL statement. Sometimes a simple
index can solve the problem, sometimes you need help from Oracle
    to get the solution.
    3. If you want to shorten the downtime, you can select less support
packages since all SPs have a lot of reports to run in XPRAS. But
remember you need to import them soon or later. But if you prefer
    import them later it's fine.
Currently if you check in SM37 then you can see RDDEXECL job in active status.
Check for the job log, if there are any errors reported?
Thereafter check the SM50 and see if its taking unusually long time for some particular table.
If so then it might be because you might have not updated the statistics for that particular table.
Also check what was the parameter value of Number of batch processes defined by you
for upgrade. If you have defined very less number of batch processes for upgrade then also
    it will take more time.
Check accordingly and let me know for further help.
    Regards,
    Abhishek

  • GRC AC 5.3 - Sync Mode background job running for days.

We have the following performance issues on the GRC System.
1- Please note that the sync mode background job has been running for DAYS.
My question is if I  truncate table virsa_cc_prmvl;  (which stores all the analysis results), will my GRC system be effected.
2- Secondly we have a job analysing roles, which causes the performance to go down. And due to we have a extremely high number of roles, we would like to know if there would be a way to improve the analysis for roles. Is there any parameter modification in GRC / J2EE/ backend related to roles?
    Details of our roles:
    - we have more than 60000 roles in our system
    - 75 % of the roles are not assigned to any user (is there a way to avoid these roles? these roles are not put in order so too tedious to choose roles individually or by range.
3- We are running a job with four risks and it's taking more than two minutes per user (we've got 10.000 + users in total)
How can I resolve this performance issue.
4- What is the recommended size of the batch for user sincronization. Should I use 1000 or 10,000 (based on our above environment).
    Thanks,
    Haleem

    Hello, Abdul!

  • Cannot use Dreamweaver CS6 because of "running for long time" script issue

Started getting this error yesterday, it’s killing me....
Dialog box says: "A script in file ~:Applications:ADOBE CS6:Adobe Dreamweaver CS6:Configuration:Shared:BC:JS:bc_sites.js has been running for a long time.  Do you want to continue?"
The message keeps persisting almost everytime I try to edit something, the Yes or No options don’t seem to do anythin other than remove the dialogue box temporarily.
Searched for a solution to this but only found unanswered questions, so I uninstalled the app, re-installed it and all seemed to be ok for a short while and now the issue is back.
I’m using business catalyst and like the improved imtegration, but this is broken!!

    very bland support me thinks...
I'm a strong supporter of DW and Adobe, but it's one of the reasons I'm not in the Cloud or using BC.  Support is charged at a per-incident or corporate rate: http://www.adobe.com/support/programs/ .
You can try trashing that Configuration folder ( http://helpx.adobe.com/dreamweaver/kb/troubleshoot-javascript-errors-dreamweaver-cs4.html - See steps 12 & 4 for details).  But that's about the extent of community support here for most technical issues.  Seeing as how you have only 3 posts since April  you probably were not around the last time customers spoke up and complained and prompted the Lambert Walsh letter almost 3 years back now. ( http://blogs.adobe.com/captivate/2009/08/open_letter_to_our_customers_o.html ).  Just don't be afraid to speak up or write to Adobe, they will listen.

  • Loud fan runs for long time then overheating then shutdown

About 2 months ago I started to have problems with my MacBook. It is my main machine so this is something I really want to get fixed. The new behavior: fan(s) run loud for some time, then the computer refuses to accept a charge, and then it shuts down. It seems to do this when it feels like it. It did not do this before. I have Apple Care and took it to the Genius Bar. But they said it passed all their hardware tests. I just don't see how it could be anything else but a hardware problem. What should I do?

It could be that you have some errant process running sometimes but not all the time, due to who-knows-what reason (to be discovered later if this bears out.
Have you ran Activity Monitor when it is running hot to see if there is something taking up more than a few percent of CPU time?
I don't know the likelyhood of this next idea because I have not yet had a MacBook apart but all modern computers have some kind of heat sink on the CPU and it may be that that heat sink is sometimes not making a good physical contact to the CPU chip. This has been the case on some Mac powerbooks in the past.

  • Full GC running for longer time

    hi Team,
We are running SLD on separate hardware with Windows 2003. But since couple of months we been observing that 'full GC taking longer time' then it used to be. So wondering what are the possible parameters, configuration items that i need to look back to find tune this issue.
any good reference docs related to find tuning the GC is much appriciated.
    Thanks
    Sekhar

    I have three basic suggestions.
    1.  Decrease your heap size.  This will make the GC shorter but more frequent.
    2.  Increase the heap size to some huge number.  This will make it take longer but run infrequently.
    3.  Use the java option to never do GC on the java startup and then force GC on a daily basis when the system is relatively unused.  This also requires increasing the heap size.  You may need to have a developer write something to force GC.  In smaller companies, you can just restart J2ee each night but that seems like cheating.

  • Background Job  running long time.

    Hello All,
One of customer background job running for long time more than 11 hours, but usually this jobs get completed within 4 hrs.
I have checked in WP trace file, it shows "WP has reached abap/heaplimit=40000000".
This is the Value I can see in RZ11. Now it is not possible to change the value.
Frequently facing this problem, please guide me to solve this issue.
    Regards
    Vinay.

    Hi
First of all, abap/heaplimit is the limit of memory usage by a WP.
Follwing is the documentation from help.sap.com
The value of the parameter should be between 10000000 (10 MB) and 2000000000 (2GB), the recommended default setting is 40000000 (40 MB).
The objective is to have the least number of work process restarts as possible, without a swap space bottleneck occurring.  The heap memory allocated by the work processes has to be released again.
As shown in the graphic, the value of abap/heaplimit should be smaller than abap/heap_area_dia or abap/heap_area_nondia, so that the dialog step that is running can still be executed. This prevents the work process from working against the operating systemu2019s swap space limit if there is a programmed termination of the work process.
So,Do the above checks. And importantly check the memory utilizations at the time of running your job and check whether any other job was also running at the sametime.
Increasing the parametes is not a good idea.. If you continuously face this issue then only think of parametes. As u said ,this problem is not happenng too often.
    Hope this is useful

  • Background Job Running long time in Production system ???

    Hi guys,
I have custom report which runs normally in 20 minutes.  i am executing this report every day.  but when i execute the same report yesterday it took 5 hours.
i did the performance trace ....the sql statements are in acceptable range only. i don't see any major time consumption.
since it's in production system  we can't debug the active job....
can u guys, throw light on this issue.
Note : there are many posts related to this already in the forum, but not helps to resolve my issue.
    Regards
    Girish

    Giri,
You can use STAD (or older one SE30) to have a trace of the program if you have that access and will be a great help in finding the problem.
If you can't due to some reason, then next time job runs for long (while in ACTIVE state), check SM50 regularly to see that the is process hanging on a table fetch, check that any of the DB table is not getting frequent locks in SM12.
Also, you should check that if your job does any table update, is there any new index created in prod system for that table.
If you can't find anything, then take the necessary access in Prod from basis temporarily and debug the job to find exact issue.

  • How to stop process chain if it yellow for long time

    hello all,
I see that my process chain is running for long time and is yellow for more than last 24 hours now. I can see where the chain is stuck(not going ahead).
What do we normally do in such scenarios?
Also one more question I have is about delete PSA request process variant. Can i use the same variant in two different process chains, is yes than do I have to include the name of the PSA tables that are in both the process chains. When the variant runs in 1st chain does it delete the PSA tables from the second chain as well..(i hope i made this clear)
    Thanks in advance

Once you have done with your init load manually. Then in case it was just the start of the process in ur Process Chain then first remove the chain from schedule and then go to the start process of the process chain and save the setting for immediate, uncheck the periodic box and save and then come out of the screen and then execute and activate the chain.
    Note:
    1. Before changing the setting in the start process make a note of the start time and also its periodic value.
    2. Once the chain is completed then change the setting in the start process back to previous start time and periodic value.
    3. Don’t forget to save and activate the chain.
