Backing up database and archivelogs with grid control.

So I was scheduling a job to backup the entire database and archive logs to an ASM diskgroup.  Well for some reason.... the backup of both the datafiles and archivelog files keep going to my $ORACLE_HOME/db/dbs directory.  I have no clue as I've dropped the job and recreated it and made sure it was going to <diskgroup>. Anyone have any idea what might be happening? I'm using 10.2.0.4 for the database and ASM. My Grid control is also 10.2.0.4.
Thanks in advance
Luke

Grid Control:
Disk Backup Location: I've tried to leave it blank so that it will goto my flash recovery area(Which is on ASM) and I even tried to explicitly state an ASM diskgroup, but both of those fail and start backing up to /dbs directory

    I meant backup
I just want to restrict rman form backing up the two location using the 'one shot' 10g syntax
I used to backup using two steps
    1) datafile
    2) archlogs with a LIKE expression to tell Rman where to find the archlogs

the 'backup database plus archivelog ' syntax does accept a 'LIKE' expression

  • Whats the functional difference between dbconole and using the Grid control.

I know this may seem like a strange question, but I was wondering if I only have one instance on my server, would benefit would i gain if I installed and configured the grid control
over the dbconsole that comes with the 11gr2?
I know the Grid control can discover many databases, but what else can it do that the dbconsole cannot?
    thanks!

    Hi,
    Indeed good question.
It depends on installation type you selected. But are responsible for user administration in terms of creating, deleting, updating and role assignment tasks to users and groups.
--CUA is meant for ABAP Installation. CUA is responsible for entire landscape user administration works with RFC connection talking to all ABAP systems
--UME is meant for Java installations, plus UME is responsible for handling communication between ABAP users and java users.
    UME

There's currently no way to monitor a whole SAP system through gridcontrol. Of course you can monitor the underlying database.

  • How to monitor Oracle Glassfish with Grid Control 11g

    Hi,
Could someone tell me how can i monitor Oracle Glassfish with Grid Control 11g ?? i think i need a plug-in but i don't know where could i download it
I guess the information i can monitor depends on the plug-in :)
    Regards
    Carlos

    Hi Carlos,
We do have partners that routinely write plug-ins to extend OEM. If you take a look at the EM Extensibility Exchange below, you will find various extensions that partners such as Blue Medora have written:
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=34841:1:26399399216901:::::
Please keep in mind though that between SLM and JVM diagnostics, you would have a significant amount of visibility even without the Glassfish target.

  • Can Oracle Application Diagnostics for Java used with Grid Control 10.2.0.3

I have installed Grid Control 10.2.0.3 in Solaris 10.
I was asked to install AD4J . Is it necessary to upgrade Grid Control to 10.2.0.4 for installing AD4J or can I use the present 10.2.0.3 version withour upgrading it ?

    Hello.
We already have Grid Control 10.2.0.4 and just installed AD4J 10.2.0.4. This version of AD4J is not integrated with Grid Control, and can be setup on any server by unzipping the downloaded file (no installer). I did find the installation/configuration documentation lacking, but worked through it with a little help from Oracle Support.
The AD4J console has the look and feel of Grid Control, but is totally separate app with its own Apache server, etc.

  • Manualy onfigure database with grid control

    Hi All,
I am using EM grid control 10g r4 to monitor many of the 9i and 10g databases in the environment.
    Need help in this scenario.
On a db server (10.2.0.2) I have grid control agent (10.2.0.4) installed and able to monitor databases on it.
Recently my colleague created a new database with ’local EM database control’ instead of using centralized grid control. In this case how can I manually configure this new database to point to EM grid control.
    Please let me know
    ~Thanks

You can attempt a rediscovery from within Grid Control.
On the server where you want to discover the target database set the ORACLE_HOME to the agent home and then execute:
    agentca -d
This should rediscover and find your database.

  • Monitoring with Grid Control : Default thresholds

    Hi,
I have installed Grid Control 10GR2, and have been struggling with the monitoring the health of Enterprise databases. Previously, any critical health problem seemed to have been reported promptly..
The default time interval in Grid Control is too long for certain health issues.. like
    database up-down, tablespace full...
I just wanted to get idea from others, what have they done with the time intervals?
    Any suggestions/experiences??
    - Jayant

I've kept the defaults on most things, I have changed a few things, notably a metric on the agent itself. But all databases self manage their space anyway. tablespace full you can just change to 5 minutes or something if you are concerned about it.Just experiment, everybodys requirements are different.
And for the other chap to change a time interval on grid control 10.2:
    Go to Targets-->All Targets
Click on the name of the target you want to change (be it host/database or agent etc)
Scroll down the page and click on 'Metric and Policy Settings'
There you will see the collection schedule for each metric, this a clickable link from where you can then edit.
Alternatively use a monitoring template and do it that way, especially if you got lots to change.
