Backing up essbase data

Good morning
Is there a way to back up the data in Essbase while the user is still actively using the database? Currently we use scripting to export the database (these are ASO cubes) but sometimes the export fails due to users actively sending or retrieving data?
Also, is there any way that essbase can be monitored to detect a corrupt database? We experienced this issue a few days ago, and the only way we found out was when the users could no longer access the cube. Is there a way to build the system so that if the corruption occurs a replicated database can take over?
thanks

When you perform a back up operation whilst users are still logged on you run the risk of either the backup failing or even corrupting the database.
Rather make a copy of the database you want by
alter system logout session on database 'App'.'Db';
create or replace database 'NewApp'.'NewDb' as 'App'.'Db';
You can then do whatever you wish with the newly created one.

  • Essbase data backup - 9.3.1

    Hi All,
I have a question around Essbase data backups.
We are on 9.3.1 and the Essbase data files (.ind and .pag) are under the default location (Hyperion\Essbase\App etc).
One of our apps is 70gb and gets backed up nightly.
Now is it necessary to take an export of the data for the backup to be complete? My main concern is that exporting 70GB of data will take hours.
If for some reason we need to restore this app to another server, will copying all files under the Essbase\App\Appname folder also restore the data?
    Thanks for your help.
    Seb

Provided the Essbase application & database is stopped when the backup occurs, backing up the ind and pag files, as well as the Database outline(*.otl), *.tct , *.db, *.dbb, *.esm files should allow you to recover from a backup. I have had successfull recoveries from standard file backup of these files without issue, and in pretty good time.
I have not tried to restore to a different server. Usually when migrating, I copy the outline over, and export data from one database and import to the other.

  • Impact of write-back on large data cubes(Both ASO and BSO)

    Hi All,
We are in the phase of designing the Essbase Cubes(both ASO and BSO).
Has anyone encountered issues performing a write-back on large Essbase data Cubes?
    With Regards,
    Madhan

    Hi,
Do you mean data load from a flat file or sql or simply lock and send? An estimate size of your record set would also help.
I get 30 million records into an ASO cube in about 5 minutes from SQL using load rules. This is in 11.1.2.1.
    Thanks,
    Nathan

  • How I can back up my data from macbook pro that its hard drive seems to die soon?

I need your help guys from the whole world.
I am now in Erbil (North Iraq) and there is no apple authorized resellers or anyone who can fix macs, they can destroy them as they try to repair it ( this is what happened      to me recently with My I phone and I pad). So I am left alone to fix it with your global help I hope.
The issue is, I didn't do back up on my mac book pro for over  a year. I woke up 3 days ago, switched my mac and there was this funny pinc ponc noise coming from the lower right hand side of my mac (between track pad and keyboard), the computer was going slow and I wasnt able to do anything even after few restarts. It is always too slow to perform anything and this noise always start after few seconds of starting and keep going. the computer can still function very well on guest account *(safari only) and I don't hear the noise then nor when I press T. But if I try to log in to all my drive or in safe mode I get this noise and none function computer. when I went to disk utility there was message in red to back up my data immediately and take the hard drive to authorized service center.
I checked on internet, you tube  and others..and it seems I have faulty hard drive. Since I am here alone and no service center so I think I will replace it myself. But first thing first i need to back up my precious data. I found few ways of doing this and I wonder if you can give me some tips, advise or any other method to do the back up.
    1) Transfer data on target mode:  I havent done this before but I am thinking to connect my faulty macbook pro to another with firewire, pressing T on the faulty Mac and install Super Duper on the other mac. Then I connect external hard drive to the working mac via USB. And the question is     :      can I transfer the files this way to an external bootable hard drive connected to the working mac     , so the working mac will function as bridge between faulty mac and external hard drive. Also can I do this process through my old none intel based power book(which I am using now)  instead of borrowing macbook from friend?
    2) Buy new hard drive, open my mac and replace the faulty one. then put the faulty one in external inclosure, connect to refurbished mac and transfer data back. Can I do this? will I need to install the mac os from the CD associated with it before I do transfer?
Is there any other way to do this please?

where do I download the superdoper please?
    http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/superduperdescription.html
    its here:
    Download the free trial now!
This simple software is free and very easy to use, yes, it makes a 100% clone of ALL on your HD, everything.
(assuming its not so dead it wont copy).
you only need the free trial version to clone your HD.
can I download it on guest account? this one I can login and seems to function fine.
Then install same on your guest account, that wouldnt matter, since Superduper clones everything (except the recovery partition which you dont need in your case right now).
LaCie is Seagate (lacie doesnt make HD) , yes, that would be fine,  clone your HD ASAP and hope it works.
there is no software fix for HD hardware failure, ......this is why a backup copy of data is so very important all the time, period.

I have a problem with my iPhone 4s.  An Apple rep looked at the phone tonight and determined I will need a new phone.  I am now trying to back up my data to iTunes but I cannot get the phone to turn on.  I have it plugged into my computer monitor but it just slowly flashes the Apple symbol. Any ideas on how I can get it to power up for the backup?

Apple isnt here. this is a user based forum for technical questions. The solution is to restart, reset, and restore as new which is in the manual after that get it replaced for hard ware failure. if your within your one year warranty its replaced if it is out of the warranty then it is 199$

When I start a backup. Time Machine says "Oldest Backup: None; Latest Backup: None", so it seems like it should do a complete backup, but it only does a partial.

They're not lost, they simply don't show because you settings ask it not to.
Go to Settings --> Mail, Contacts, Calendar --> Calendar --> Sync --> All events

They told me to bring it to the genius at the apple store. They will change it for free but I don't have any physical place to back up my computer, they said it will take a coupe of days. I am not really sure if I have to back it up.

  • OBIEE 11g write back to Essbase and run calc script feature

    Hi,
I have a requirement to write back into Essbase Cube and run calc script from OBIEE dashboard.
From what i have search on google, we must deploy additional Java Script into weblogic, but that is before OBIEE 11.1.1.6.
    I have 2 question:
    - Does OBIEE 11.1.1.6 already supported native write-back to Essbase and running calcscript?
    - Anyone has example of the custom java-script for write back and running calcscript?
And another, if there are requirement like this, is it better to install Essbase Add-in on Microsoft Excel and do the what-if analysis there, then just display the report on OBIEE dashboard? (based on user-friendliness and the complexity on maintenance)
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Even I am trying to achieve the same thing as you have mentioned but think that it is not possible to achieve easily in obiee 11.1.1.6, though we do have a work around to perform a writeback in Essbase cube using JAPI as mentioned below.
Also we can call Hyperion reports from OBIEE using Action Links and also pass parameters to the same but dont know if it runs calculation script.
Below link could be useful for you for write back workaround.

Let me know in case you have found out anything else related to same.

this usally happens when the backup you tool was from an old ios version. Two options that you can try is
    1.  Delete the back up by going to edit> preferences> devices & delete back up on itunes & try backing up again
    2.  Update the ios software of the iphone4 & then take a back up. then try restoring

  • JVM Error 517 - Can I back up my data?

My blackberry is stuck in the JVM 517 error loop and I desperately need to make a backup of my organizer data (particularly of my calendar, to do list and notes). I am unable to back up my data using Desktop Manager but I am able to use BBSAK to save all COD files (I have a curve 8310 and I was able to save 270 COD files totaling 26MB) but don’t know if this is helpful or not.  I was also able to retrieve the log of events just before the error loop started and in case this is of any help in solving the problem here it is:

Hi! I am having the same issue. Were you able to find a solution? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

  • Best way to  back up your data

Which is the fastest and best way to back up your data in case of any problem ? Still to transfer to an external HD ?
    Thanks

    Hi Ferro;
Best and simplest way to back up is Time Machine to an external drive.
I think that any backup plan should alway be to an external drive. If you backup to an internal drive and the Mac fails, what good is your backup then?
