    Is there any way to integrate the MaxDB Database Studio in my Eclipse installation which I use for AiE?

    Hi Daniel,
    the other way around should be possible. In case your MaxDB Studio is based on eclipse juno or kepler it should work.
    You find this info in the menu under Help->About Eclipse
    Please let me know which version of the MaxDB Studio you have.
    Regards,
    Thomas.

  • MaxDB Database Studio - Internal DB no more coming up

    After a reboot of the system where DBStudio is running the integrated database doesn´t come up again.
    Trying to start the instance manually just leads to a "Database could not be started, this happend already 5 times" entry in the windows event log. Since I couldn´t find a knldiag (or knldiag.err) I wonder, how to recover from that situation and find out, what the problem with the database is.

  • Error while opening database studio in maxdb

    Hi Experts,
    I am having maxdb 7.8 and database studio AP MaxDB Database Studio,Version: 7.8.02.21,Build: 021-121-242-175
    but when i am tying to open database studio it through
    error message " problems opening perspective 'com.sap.sdb.ui.perspectives.mainperspective '
    i was though it is coming due to old version of java then i have upgrade with 1.7 but problem is still there.
    so please help me .....
    Thanks
    Naresh KK.

    Hi Naresh,
    Basically MAXDB Database studio 7.8 requires JRE 1.6. You can do the following
    Uninstall the Database Studio version.
    1. To uninstall, call the installation manager 7.8 ("Programs -> SAP MaxDB -> Installation Manager").
    2. Choose "Remove MaxDB Installation".
    3. Under "Legacy", select the Database Studio version.
    Selecting "Legacy" ensures that you do not select the Database Studio 7.8 that you have just installed for uninstallation.
    4. Choose "Forward" to confirm that you want the system to remove the installation.
    Due to the operation of the earlier Database Studio version, some processes may still run (for example, serv.exe). Stop these processes and continue with the 7.8 installation.
    And then install JRE 1.6. Then delete the files in location c:\Users\<User>\sdb\DatabaseStudio (delete files .configuration, .metadata, p2) and then re-install MaxDB database studio.

  • Problems opening perspective in Database Studio

    Hi,
    after installation of the latest Database Studio release it doesn't work how I would like to.
    When i try to open the Database Studio perspective it throws an error:

    I have Java 1.6.0_07 installed.
    Has anyone an idea?
    Thank you.

    Hi Norma,
    I did resolve the issue.
    Basically MAXDB Database sturio 7.8 requires JRE 1.6. I was having same issues. Then i uninstalled MAXDB
    Uninstall the Database Studio version.
    1. To uninstall, call the installation manager 7.8 ("Programs -> SAP MaxDB -> Installation Manager").

    Then i deleted the files in location c:\Users\<User>\sdb\DatabaseStudio (deleted files .configuration, .metadata, p2) and then restarted maxdb database studio and worked for me.

  • Check Backup with Database Studio

    Hi there,
    I have a question about recover_check with the Database Studio.
    We have a SAP MaxDB 7.7.04.28 and use the Database Studio 7.7.07.12.
    We use Networker as external backuptool.
    The backup seems to be ok, in the log file and in the history the external backup state is available and the external backup id is displayed and I can find this in the log file u201CHave updated external backup history successfullyu201D.
    When I try to check the database backup with Database Studio, I choose the backup from history, but I get an error message: u201CAn external backup id is needed, but not suppliedu201D.
    When I look on the Tab Data Carriers the Parameter External Backup ID isnu2019t filled.
    What can I do to check the Backup with the Database Studio?
    Thanks for help

    Hmm... with my 7.9er DB Studio this works with external backups as well...
    Anyhow - there are certain features that are not fully implemented/supported until DB Studio >=7.8....
    So maybe you need to use DBMGUI a while longer...
    Do you have the checkbox "Show information for external backup tools" on your backup history screen?

  • Database Studio 7.9.08.09 -  Could not access to user management; Deleting old settings and reinstallation did not bring a change -- database studio deinstallation cannot be performed anymore

    Hi Community,
    for a few months I have been struggling with a  SAP Max DB database Studio issue and finally, I had to give up the idea of being able to fix this on my own. I am desperately seeking for help and I hope that you may be able to give me a hint, advice or even a solution.
    This is what happened:
    I used to run Windows 7 on 32bit. I also had Database Studio installed - which was running fine then.
    After a harware upgrade, I am running now Windows 7 on a 64 bit System. All my files from my local disk (C:\) have been restored and copied onto my new system.
    I reinstalled Database Studio Version 7.9.08.09 onto my new System.  But on the first try to start the program I received the error that said "Could not Access to user Management.See Window -> Show View-> Event Log Viewer for more Details."
    However the Event Log Viewer was empty.
    After searching the web for a solution, I followed the advice given in this community and deinstalled Database Studio and deleted the C.\Users\MyAccount\sdb folder manually.
    I reinstalled Database Studio and started it as Administrator.
    However, the error is still appearing.
    And, what makes it even worse is : now I am not able to uninstall Database Studio anymore.
    When I run SAP MaxDB Installation Manager and select the instance of database Studio to be uninstallled I am receiving the error:
    "ERR: Unhandled Exception: Can't call method: "GenPackageList" on an undefined value at SDB/Install/Gui/Dialogs/SelectInstance.pm line 328"
    Any advice is highly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Agnieszka

    Hello Yashwanth,
    thank you for your quick Response.
    Yes, I downloaded and installed the 64 bit Version of dbstudio.
    I downloaded and ran the following .exe file: maxdb-studio-win-64bit-x86_64-7_9_08_09.exe
    I am running the following Java-Version:
    Java Plug-in 1.6.0_45
    Using JRE version 1.6.0_45-b06 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM
    I myself am not a SAP customer. However, the Company I am working for is a SAP customer.
    Can you explain in Detail, how to create a ticket with SAP?
    Thanks,
    Agnieszka

  • Can I use DB13C for central backup scheduling of MaxDB and Oracle databases

    Hello,
    we have installed Solution Manager 7.0 on Windows with MaxDB. We want to use DB13C to schedule and Monitor our database backups. We have 8 systems with Oracle Database and 7 systems with MaxDB database, 1 DB2 and 1 MS-SQL Server . Due to QAS issues we can´t migrate to one database system. Is there a possibility to handle all database systems from our Solution Manager ?
    Thank you
    Heiko

    You can use DBACOCKPIT for that purpose. Import the systems from the SLD.

    Context info:

    A clean install: Old MaxDB 7.6 was first uninstalled.
    OS:  Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition R2 on VMWare
    2x Xeon 3.66 Ghz

    The install log indicates no problems other than the following:

    Hi Simon,
    The error message:
    > Caused by: java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: com/sap/sdb/tools/ui/application/ApplicationPlugin (Unsupported major.minor version 49.0)
    usually indicates that a wrong Java Version was used to run Database Studio. Database Studio needs Java 1.5 to run.
    Please check your Java installation and your JAVA_HOME environment variable to point to the Java 1.5 installation.
    Cheers,

  • Error trying to create first database with Database Studio on MaxDB 7.7

    After installing the Database Studio 7.7 and starting up, i tried to create a first (local) database following the procedure documented in the online manual:
    Under the heading of "Servers" an entry "<Local>" was created.
    Then  i used the right mouse button to "Create Database...".
    A popup window appears with:
    Database Server <Local>
    Database Name MAXDB
    Login Information for Server (user/password) grayed out.
    Then doing "Next >" generates the following error:
    No installation available on server '<Local>'.
    Remark: installation went without problems.
    Any help is appreciated greatly.

    Hi Simon,
    a silly question just to clarify the issue: Do you have a MaxDB Installation on your PC where Database Studio was installed?
    What does the Event Log tell you about the issue?
    See Window->Show View->Event Log Viewer
    or if not listed there
    Window->Show View->Other ...->Database Studio->Event Log Viewer
    Could you please have a look and tell me what it says? If you find a message that is related to your problem double click it and press the little Copy to clipboard icon in the upper right corner then you can paste the message in your reply.
    Cheers,
    Daniel

  • R3load EXPORT tips for 1,5 TB MAXDB Database are welcome!

    Hello to ALL;
    this post is addressed to ALL MAXDB-GURU's !!
    I'v few questions to MAXDB Performance-Guy's for R3load Export on MAXDB!
    (remark to my person:
    I'm certified OS/DB migration consultant and have already done over 500 OS/DB migrations since 1995 successfully)
    BUT now I'm face with following setup for Export:
    HP- IA64 BL870c,  4 CPUu2019s Dual-Core + Hyperthreading activ (mean's 16 "CPU'S" shown via top or glance)
    64 GB RAM, HPUX V11.31;
    MAXDB  7.7.07
    ECC 5.0; Basis/Aba 640.22
    SAP-Kernel 640-Unicode Patch 381
    8 sapdatas are configured on unique 200GB LUN's and VG's in HP-UX; on storage-side the 8 220GB LUN's are located on (only) 9 300GB-Disks with Raid-5 Level and within HP-UX each VG/LVOL is mirrored via LVM to a second desasterdatacenter (200m distance)
    LOGFILES:
    2 x 4 GB LUN Raid-1 on Storage and via LVM  also mirrored to failover-center
    MAXDB-Datasize: 1600 GB Overall and within this 1350 GB used, TEMPUsage about 25 GB !
    MAXDB-Parameter-Settings
    MAXCPUu2019s 10  (4 x IA64 QuadCore+Hyperthreading shows 16 Cores within top and galcne
    Cache_SIZE= I/O Buffer Cache = 16 GB (2.000.000 Pages)
    Data-Cache-HitRatio:  99.61%
    Undo-Cache = 99,98%
    the following sapnote for MAXDB Peformance and Migrations are well known and already processes
    928037, 1077887, 1385089, 1327874, 954268, 1464560, 869267,
    My major problem is the export-runtime with over 4 days on the first dry-run (6 R3load's running on Linux-APPL-Server), and 46h on second runtime, 6 R3loads running on DB-Server IA64)
    the third trail-run was aborted by me after 48hours and 50% export-dump-space was written. In all 3 dry-runs, no more than approx 3.5GB DUMP-Space were written per hour!
    My first question to all MAXDB-Guru'S: How can I influence/optimize the TEMP - Area in MAXDB?? I didn't find any hint's in SDN or SAPNOTES or MaxDB Wiki or google....As fare as I know, this TEMP area "resides" within MAXDB-datafiles, thus it's seperated on my 48 datafiles, spreaded over 8 LUN/VG/disks. But I see LESS throughput on disk's and MAXDB-Kernel uses only ONE of ten's cpu-cores (approx 80% - 120% of 1000%).
    The throughput or cpu-usage doesn't change when I use 2 or 4 or 10 or 16 R3load' processes in parallel. The "result" is always the same: approx. 3,5 GB Export-Dump and 1 CPU MAX-DB Kernelprocess is used !
    so the BIG Question for me: WHERE is the bottleneck ?? (RAID-5 Disk-LUNS mirrored with LVM ???)
    on HP-UX scsi_queue_depth_length I'v increased default value from 8 to 32 to 64 to 128 --> no impact
    2nd question:
    I'v read  OS-Note 1327874 - FAQ: SAP MaxDB Read Ahead/Prefetch, and we are running MAXDB 7.7.07.19! (MaxDB 7.8 is not suppored via PAM for IA64 640-UC-Kernel) and as far as I understood, this parameter will no HELP me on EXPORT with primary-key-sequence ! is this correct?  THUS: which parameter HELPS for speeding up Export-Runtime?
    MAXCPU is set to 10, but ONLY 1 of them is used??
    so this post is for ALL MAXDB GURU'S!
    who will be intrested to contriubte on this "high-sophisticated" migration-project with 1.5TB MAXDB-Database-size and ONLY 24h Downtime !!
    all tips and hints are welcome and I will give us coninued updates to this running project until WE did a successfull migration job.
    PS: Import is not yet started, but should be done within vSphere 5 and SLES 11 SP1 on MAXDB 7.8 ....and of yours in parallel to export with migration monitor, BUT again a challenge: 200km distance from source to traget system !!!
    NICE PROJECT;
    best regards Alfred

    Hi Alfred,
    nice project ... just some simple questions:
    Did you open a message at SAP? Maybe you could buy some upgrade support, this could be usefull to get direct access to the SAP support...
    Which byte order do you use? I know Itanium could use both. But it should be different, otherwise you would use a backup for the migration.
    And the worst question, I do not even want to ask: What about your MAXCPUS parameter? Is it set to more than 1? This could be the problem why only one CPU is used.
    Best regards
    Christian

    Hi,
    Use below procedure
    1. Go to /sapdb/SRD/data/wrk
    2. cp -rp dbm_knl dbm_knl_OLD
    3. vi +<Line in which the corruption occured> dbm.knl
    see there must be a corruption in the given line and it will specified with a green color
    delete that part and make the format as per the above line
    4. save the file
    5. execute the procedure again from Database studio or Database Manager
    (Note: Make sure that you have taken the backup first of dbm.knl file Because any extra entry may cause another corruption)
    (FYI : This file is only log file of successful backups and returns the return-code)

  • How to log dbm-actions in database studio?

    Hi,
    I am trying to record the actions database studio does when accessing the database. In example, I want to show the backup information. Which database comands are used?
    In DBMgui this was possible I just opend the console window and every further action was printed to this window. This was a nice feature to create batch scripts.
    Is this function still available in database studio? How to use it?
    Thank you.
    Best regards
    Christian

    Hello,
    Window->Show View->General->Console
    Window->Preferences->Database Studio->Show console for database management commands

  • How to backup more than one database using powershell

    I am Trying to backup more than one database using the following script but no luck. I want user to type on command line the database they want to backup, e.g all databases that have "test" at the front like test.inventory, test.sales so i want
    user to type test.* and it backs up all databases related to test. Here is the script
        #$date = Get-Date -Format yyyyMMddHHmmss
        #$dbname = 'test.inventory'
        $dbToBackup = "test.inventory"
        cls
        [System.Reflection.Assembly]::LoadWithPartialName("Microsoft.SqlServer.SMO") | Out-Null
        [System.Reflection.Assembly]::LoadWithPartialName("Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoExtended") |
        Out-Null
        [System.Reflection.Assembly]::LoadWithPartialName("Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo")
        | Out-Null
        [System.Reflection.Assembly]::LoadWithPartialName("Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoEnum") | Out-
        Null
        Add-Type -AssemblyName "Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo, Version=10.0.0.0, Culture=neutral,
        PublicKeyToken=89845dcd8080cc91"
        $server = New-Object Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Server($env:ComputerName)
        $server.Properties["BackupDirectory"].Value = "C:\_DBbackups"
        $server.Alter()
        $backupDirectory = $server.Settings.BackupDirectory
        #display default backup directory
        "Default Backup Directory: " + $backupDirectory
        $db = $server.Databases[$dbToBackup]
        $dbName = $db.Name
        $timestamp = Get-Date -format yyyyMMddHHmmss
        $smoBackup = New-Object ("Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Backup")
        #BackupActionType specifies the type of backup.
        #Options are Database, Files, Log
        #This belongs in Microsoft.SqlServer.SmoExtended assembly
        $smoBackup.Action = "Database"
        $smoBackup.BackupSetDescription = "Full Backup of " + $dbName
        $smoBackup.BackupSetName = $dbName + " Backup"
        $smoBackup.Database = $dbName
        $smoBackup.MediaDescription = "Disk"
        $smoBackup.Devices.AddDevice($backupDirectory + "\" + $dbName + "_" + $timestamp +
        ".bak", "File")
        $smoBackup.SqlBackup($server)
        #let's confirm, let's list list all backup files
        $directory = Get-ChildItem $backupDirectory
        $backupFilesList = $directory | where {$_.extension -eq ".bak"}
        $backupFilesList | Format-Table Name, LastWriteTime

    Or i am using this script which backs up everything except tempdb but dont know how to modify this so that it backs up up all test related databases
    Is there a way that i use test.*
    [System.Reflection.Assembly]::LoadWithPartialName("Microsoft.SqlServer.SMO") | out-null
    $s = new-object ("Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Server") $instance
    $bkdir = "C:\_DBbackups" #We define the folder path as a variable
    $dbs = $s.Databases
    foreach ($db in $dbs)
         if($db.Name -ne "tempdb") #We don't want to backup the tempdb database
         $dbname = $db.Name
         $dt = get-date -format yyyyMMddHHmm #We use this to create a file name based on the timestamp
         $dbBackup = new-object ("Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.Backup")
         $dbBackup.Action = "Database"
         $dbBackup.Database = $dbname
         $dbBackup.Devices.AddDevice($bkdir + "\" + $dbname + "_db_" + $dt + ".bak", "File")
         $dbBackup.SqlBackup($s)
