Backup to local ftp server

I have recently bought an ASUS RT-N13U, which is a wireless router with an USB port to which I have attached an external hard disk.
This is to be used to make files available to all computers on the network, but I would also like to use it for automated backups. However, the commands and backup software available on Arch do not seem to handle ftp. For instance "cp -u" works well with source and destination on the same computer - but does not seem to cope with ftp:// designations.  rsync seems to require an rsync server which the RT-N13U cannot help with.  kbackup cannot yet handle remote servers (according to available documentation), and so on and so on,,
What I want to do is to run (as a cron job):
1. establish an ftp connection (machine, username password)
2. run an equivalent to cp -u on certain directory trees
3. optionally, generate a report on what has been backed up
4. disconnect from the ftp server
Of course, making full backups (even automatically) is not a problem, but has anyone some idea on how to get incremental backups?

As far as I know, the RT-N13U can be a printer server or ftp server - there is nothing in the documentation that indicates that it can be made into a SAMBA or NFS server.
lftpfs says it is read-only, but curlftps may well be the solution. I will experiment with that.
Thanks!

  • Setting up a local ftp server for wireless photo transfers

I am a semi-professional photographer who recently purchased a wireless unit that connects to my camera to transfer my images to my Mac. I have turned on the ftp services under Sharing on my Powermac G5 and set up a user account for the camera to log into. All of the transfers will be on the local side of my router, no outside (Internet) connections.
I can get an IP address for the camera, so I know the connection to the router is ok, however I can not log into the user account on the G5 when ftp is initiated. I keep getting a 'Not Connected to Server' error message.
The connection software on the camera is rather basic. It is ftp only. Do I need to do anything else on my G5 or router to help this along? In the camera, I can specify the IP address of the local ftp server, the account username, and password. Do I need to use passive mode?
Should I use another ftp server program other than the one built into Tiger? The camera company recommends a product called Rumpus, but it is very expensive for my use. Any other suggestions for server software?
Also, is there a way in Tiger to see who is currently logged into user accounts?
Lots of questions, but I am determined to get this to work for me.
    Thanks.
    Jeff W.

Also, is there a way in Tiger to see who is currently logged into user accounts?
In Terminal just type 'last'. More ways to tell...
    http://www.osxfaq.com/tips/unix-tricks/week95/friday.ws
I wonder if ftp might not mean some other file transer protocol like SMB... don't know for sure, but most use FAT16/32, which would need SMB I think.
Try from the Finder... CMD+k, then type in smb://, then the IP of the Camera... or maybe ftp:// plus the IP.
Most ftp programs are more funtional than the built in one... Cyberduck is popular, though I use TransmitX

  • Ftp to a local ftp server doesn't work for VIREX 7.7

Has anyone else experienced this and know of a work-around? I have mac 10.3.9 machines not connected to the internet and running Virex 7.7. I have them setup to access signature files I download to a local ftp server on our subnet. This works fine.
We've installed a couple of Tiger (10.4.4) machines and this setup for Virex does not work. It acts like it can't see the ftp server. When I use Terminal I can ftp to the ftp server and transfer files that way. Why doesn't Virex 7.7 successfully download signature files from the ftp server?
    Any suggestions?

I have been having the same problem. Our McAfee rep sent me a patch that apparently fixes the problem. Since McAfee issues DATs on Wednesdays, I ran the the e-update yesterday morning. It all seemed to run too quickly, but I checked the dates of the vscan files and they were correct. The files are:
    names.dat
    clean.dat
    scan.dat
They located in /usr/local/vscanx/ (hidden files - you can download "Wizzard" to show/hide files).

  • How to configure sync with my local ftp server?

I have used XMarks since now because it hallow me to synchronize my bookmarks with my local server. Now XMarks don't work anymore because it's not more possible to synchronize the passwords.
Any other alternative imposes to use an external server and I don't want to use an external server. My data must remain on my machine it's absolutely excluded that i use an external unknown server for this.
The only solution must be a free solution (a real free solution) and the firefox synchronization seems to me the best/only one.
But I've not found how to configure it to use my own server.
So how to do it, where are the options to the synchronizer to give my own ftp server or whatever other server it needs?

iAS 6.0 sp4 officially does only support iPlanet Directory Server 5.0 sp1 and 4.13.
    For more details visit: http://docs.iplanet.com/docs/manuals/ias/60/sp4/ig/prep.htm#42084
I guess, you can specify the directory server during the time of installation.
    Thanks,

  • How can i do scheduled automatic backups to an ftp server in ios xr?

Hello guys! As the title says im looking forward to automatically back up my running config on a cisco CRS-1 to an FTP server. I was only able to find this config example:
    Configuration commit auto-save filename ftp://A.B.C.D/myconfig.txt
This allows me to save my config to an ftp server everytime i use commit on the device. Now i want to know if there's a way to automatically save my configs everyday at 00:00  and also include the date and time in the name of the file so i don't overwrite the existing files in the ftp server.
I dont want to use any tool i just wanna know if what im asking is possible via CLI commands. I would greatly appreciate your help with this subject.
    Regards,
    David

Not sure if this script will work on a CRS, but try this:
    archive
    log config
    logging enable
    hidekeys
    path tftp:///$h-
    write-memory
    time-period 10080
    Explaination:
There are two ways to save your config to your remote station:
    1.  When someone saves the config; and
    2.  At an alloted time period, expressed in 10080 (weekly for me).

    Hi
I am trying to script an automatic FTP backup of a WCS system using the DBAdmin command from a command line.
As the WCS was previously a WLSE it is running Linux via the WSC conversion part code WCS-WLSE-APB-100, it has then been further upgraded and is running 6.0.170.0 Base. Linux version is: 2.6.18-8.el5 ([email protected]) (gcc version 4.1.1 20070105 (Red Hat 4.1.1-52)) #1 SMP Fri Jan 26 14:15:21 EST 2007)
When I execute the command I get the following:
    [root@WCS bin]# ./dbadmin.sh remotebackup 10.0.0.1 test test

  • Regarding receiver FILE adapter,  REMOTE FTP server

    Hi All,
The scenario was to get XML file from a local FTP server and to place that XML file in REMOTE FTP server, which we dont have any control over that REMOTE FTP,
While executing the scenario it is successfully picked the file and processed and it was success in SXMB_MONI, but when we see the Communication Chaneel of the receiver adapter it is generating the following error..
Error when getting an FTP connection from connection pool: com.sap.aii.af.service.util.concurrent.ResourcePoolException: Unable to create new pooled resource: ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect
Message processing failed. Cause: com.sap.aii.af.ra.ms.api.RecoverableException: Error when getting an FTP connection from connection pool: com.sap.aii.af.service.util.concurrent.ResourcePoolException: Unable to create new pooled resource: ConnectException: Connection timed out: connect
    clarifications needed ASAP
    regards,
    Kishore.

    Hi,
Verify the Host details of the Remote FTP.
Try to ping the Remote host as below
Goto > start>Run --->type cmd and give the command as below
c:\>ping <host details or IP address> press enter and see if you get the successful communication response.
If its not it indicates that the connection is not setup.
Ask you FTP administrators to look into connectivity issue for it.
    Thanks

  • [SOLVED] Setting up a FTP server

    Hai all :>
i'm trying to setup a local FTP server which is running on my home server. my aim is to provide a ftp server which allows everyone within my locale network to connect and upload stuff (= read- + writable for everyone who has logged in)
i've already tested vsftpd and worked through the wiki page:
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ver … simpler.29
connecting works but i can't either create nor upload anything. do i have to add more things to my configfile or does vsftp disallows uploading by default?
    best regards :>

Not sure if it's okay to post in a topic that's been [SOLVED], feel free to correct me if I'm doing it wrong. :-)
I just set up a webserver at home with SSH, Apache and VSFTPD. Now I'm doing this for my brother, because I figured if I only pay for his domain name and not also a webhotel I'll be saving alot of money(!). He wants to run like, two blogs, one for his baby kid and one for himself. Myself I want to learn python, people tell me django is the way to learn it(?) and since most service providers favour Rails it's a no go here.
    1) Now I got the domain connected to the server through a dynamic DNS service, and it displays the webpage located in /srv/http. In the /srv directory there is also the /ftp folder, which I reach by simply going to ftp://mydomainname.com/ in Firefox. However, if I connect to the FTP server through Transmit (Mac OS X client) I need to enter my login credentials (same as for logging in via SSH, I ain't got no separate user table for the FTP) and I end up in my homefolder. I suppose that's nice (I dunnu really) since if you could enter like, ftp://mydomainname.com/thoht, and have access to my home directory that'd be awesome. How do I configure it to be like that?
    2) For the websites though (I take it FTP and WWW are different things now and stored separetely) I'd rather have it stored where it is, so that I may create custom folders beneath. On the other hand what if I got several domain names, and subdomain names? If I go to mydomainname.com in Firefox I end up on the index.html page in the /srv/http folder. Shouldn't I be able to store several folders named correspondingly to the specific domain name in there?
    Thanks in advance!

  • Help Fetching files from an FTP server into a DBase or local folder

    Hello Gurus!
I need help to automate or design/write an app capable of (replace a manual process) reading log files in an ftp server folder, this log files are called CDR (Call Detail Record) and named as follow cdr.txt.20020221010000 meaning that this log file was created on 2002/02/21 at 01:00:00.
This CDR log files are generated every hour by a Lucent telephone switch using a software/program called EXS ExchangePlus in ASCII format (fixed length delaminated, Char data type). EXS ExchangePlus writes a record in this CDR/log files after the call is completed, i.e. Calling_Number, Called_Number, Date_connect (yyyymmdd), Time_connect (hhmmss), Charged_time (hhmmss, duration of the call), and so on.
The manual process I am using now is:
    1. Log in the ftp server into the folder where the CDRs log files are, located the latest generated CDRs log files and downloaded them into a local folder/directory. Normally I download the CDR for full day or 24 CDRs log files.
1a. Optionally sometimes I used a program called VEdit compiled/gather all 24 CDRs into a single file.
    2. Once I have downloaded the CDRs I want to process (normally I process a full day 24 CDRs) I imported then into a Data Base temp table, where then I do the conversion of data types (i.e. Dates and times fields from char type -> to ->Date type) and calculations for billing purposes.
So if somebody can help with this, I would really appreciated ideas or any kind of information on how to automated this process.
Im familiar with Java2 platform (using JDeveloper ) so if somebody has done something like this before using java, this would very helpful. Or Maybe using Visual Basic 6.0 would help too.
Thanks Gurus, and I look forward to hear from you soon!
    Alf Pathros!

Thanks for the idea, even though an example would help me more.
I already found the FTPClient class.
I also would like to knwo if there is a away Ican append/merged various files CDRs into a single/one to then dump/import it into the database

    Backing Up and Restoring Data
    Last Updated: May 12, 2010
Cisco Unity Express backup and restore functions use an FTP server to store and retrieve data. The backup function copies the files from the Cisco Unity Express application to the FTP server and the restore function copies the files from the FTP server to the Cisco Unity Express application. The FTP server can reside anywhere in the network if the backup and restore functions can access it with an IP address or hostname.
We recommend that backups be done regularly to preserve voice-mail messages and configuration data.
Backup and restore commands are available in configuration mode and in offline mode.
•In configuration mode, commands are available to set the following parameters:
–Number of backup files to keep (the oldest file is deleted).
–URL of the FTP server where the files will be stored.
•In offline mode, perform the backup or restore procedure. Decide the following:
–Type of files to be backed up: all files (configuration and data), only configuration files, or only data files. Data files consist of voice-mail messages. Configuration files consist of all other system and application parameters.
–URL of the FTP server where the files will be stored.

  • Ola Hallengren maintenance solution TSQL script not deleting old backup files from my local SQL server

I have looked on Ola's site (https://ola.hallengren.com/frequently-asked-questions.html) and I did see this:
DatabaseBackup is not deleting old backup files. What could the problem be?
Verify that the SQL Server and SQL Server Agent service accounts have full control of the backup directory.
If that directory is a network share, verify that the SQL Server and SQL Server Agent service accounts have full control of the network share.
If you are using a proxy account, verify that the account is a member of the sysadmin server role and that it has full control of the backup directory and network share.
Verify that the file is not locked in the file system; for example, a backup or antivirus software could be locking the file.
DatabaseBackup has been designed not to delete transaction log backups that are newer than the most recent full or differential backup. This could explain why transaction log backups are not being deleted.
I followed these instructions and then I right clicked the "sp_delete_backuphistory" job under "SQL Server Agent > Jobs" folder and clicked the "Start job at step ..." option. The job successfully ran, but my .bak backup
files were still on located on my separate drive partition I use specifically for these backups.
The SQL Server and the SQL Server Agent are both using the same AD account.
Would any of you SQL gurus out there know how to resolve this?
    Thank you

The sp_delete_backuphistory job only deletes the historical info from the backup & restore tables in the msdb database. It does not do anything to the files on disk.
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms188328.aspx
The code to actually purge the backup files from disk is inside the DatabaseBackup stored procedure. It is controlled by using the @CleanupTime parameter for that stored proc. Verify the value for that parameter is low enough to delete your files on disk. The
value is in hours, and I believe the default is 48 hours. The SQL agent job name usually starts with "DatabaseBackup...".

  • Can't preview files from a network drive to a local CF9 server.

    Hi,
I have the following set up:
    CF9 Local Dev version
    CF Builder 2.
Project files are in a network drive N:\project
I have RDS set up and everything seems to work ok, view DSN, files, etc on my local server.
In the URL prefix section I even created a map:
    Local Path: N:\project,
    URL prefix: http://localhost:8500/project/
There is no FTP set up on the CF9 server.
The problem is that when I try to preview a file that I am working on from N:\project, it doesn't show on my local server. The previewing part works if I manually move the file to CF9. But it is the automatic uploading (or moving) of the file to the local CF9  that doesn't seem to work.
BTW, I have a similar set up in DreamWeaver, where I am editing the same project (or site in this case) off of  N:\project, uploading to the same local CF9 server through RDS, and it works fine.
I know that if in CF Builder you move the project to under the web root it will work but that would not work for us, since we need to keep the project source files on a network drive for sharing/backup purposes.
Has anyone been able to successfully preview source files from a network drive on a local CF9 server?
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi again,
After doing some more googling I realize that for files to be previewed the MUST be under wwwroot. This wasn't too clear in the CF documentation.
    So my new question is:
Is there are way, once I save a file to automatically copy it from one location(N:\project) to another (c:/ColdFusion9/wwwroot/project)?
I think there is a way to do it with Ant or some sort of Eclipse feature, but I am not too familiar with either. Could someone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks,
