Ballooning Virtual PC document

While doing a spring clean on my 80GB HD this morning I've come across my Virtual PC document (Virtual PC.vpc7) and found it has blown out to 6.2GB.
I'm about to install CS2 and desperately need space.
How do I reduce the size of the VPC document?
I have now "shut down" the PC and hardly ever use it but the file is still huge.

Thanks to both responders.
In the end after reading some other info elsewhere I've decided VPC is too much of a hog for the minimal amount of time that I use it. In fact I realised that most of the time it is quicker for me to boot up one of my old PCs and transfer the files back and forth rather than wait for VPC to get going. So I decided to uninstall the whole program and deleted the virtual PC document - I've now got enough space to install CS2.
Thanks for your time. If I ever have to install VPC again - I'll follow these instructions.

  • Is there some way to import image files directly into an open document?

    Is there some way of importing a series of image files, say jpegs, directly into an open document, rather than having to open all the image files and having to drag and drop each individual one into the open document? Specifically, I'm a dentist and I often get digital xray images emailed to me from other offices. But they come as 16 or 18 individual image files and I have to put them into a virtual "xray mount", so I can view them all at once, rather than having to open all the images and toggle among them. So I open a blank document in PS (CS4), then I navigate to the folder containing all the image files I received, select all of them and open them all. Back in PS, I now have to select each image tab and drag the image into the blank "mount" and close the image. That new image then becomes its own layer in the "mount" document. But I have to repeat this 18 times for each patient! I was thinking if there was a way to open the new "mount" document then select all the image files and somehow "import" all the image files directly into document - essentially "automate" the process - that'd save me BOATLOADS of time and aggravation! Anyone out there have any suggestions? Thanks alot!! Dr. G.

    Thanks, Curt! When u say "animate" do u mean File | Automate...? Inside Automate, I can't find "Make Frames from Layers"...if you do mean "Animate" I can't find that menu. Zeno replied with a BRILLIANT clarification:
    <<Yes, but after you've got all your images as layers in a new document you can simply Select->All Layers and then drag them all to your document in one fell swoop.>>
    I tried that and it works like a charm! I select all 20 layers in the new document that "stacking" creates and just drag them all onto the virtual "mount" document. That's it! Then I just move each of these layers around as I would otherwise...it's just 1 click and 1 drag/drop. Unless someone comes up with a way to actually "import" all the images directly into the "mount" document, I think this appears to be the most efficient route to follow.
    I really appreciate your guys' assistance! It's so great that you guys monitor the forum and help us out with our Photoshop problems! What an awesome program it is, right?
    Thx again!

  • System property that represents a user's My Documents folder

    Hi! What is the System property that points to a user's My Documents folder on Windows platform? Thanks!

    >
    Define "only".
    I would imagine that there is a highly finite number
    of file configurations on all Win OS 9x onwards and
    System.property("os.name"); would resolve this with
    only a few additional lines of code.
    Actually, that's not true either... In Win 2K and above, the My Documents folder can be located in an almost infinite number of places, that are then mapped to a virtual My Documents folder.
    This can include network locations (in the case where a user's Windows profile is stored on a central server instead of on each workstation), or with phyisical names other than "My Documents". For example, when using Win XP to connect to an Active Directory hosted on a Win 2003 server, the phyiscal location of the My Documents folder is actually named with the user's name - i.e. "John's Documents".
    Even better, the name that is selected is not always the Windows login name - but could also be the alias that the user has created for themselves.
    Anyway, here's the point: If you want your code to work on all Win platforms (today and in the future), you have to get the directory the way the Windows API says you have to get it: using the SHGetSpecialFolderLocation function. If you want to try to hack something together, then it might work in a lot of cases for a little while. But it is going to break at some point. Personally, if I know a piece of code I'm writing is going to cause my app to break in the future, I write it differently so that won't happen - but that's just me.
    There's probably a way to find this info in the registry as well, but there is no guarantee that the location this information is stored in the registry will remain the same - if it changes, then the SHGetSpecialFolderLocation implementation will change.

  • DocFlex/Javadoc 1.5.6, a multi-format doclet development tool and more

    DocFlex/Javadoc is both a multi-format Javadoc Doclet and a rapid doclet development tool, which allows easy creation of professional quality Java API documentation generated by Javadoc in various output formats.

    KEY FEATURES
    Template-driven doclet architecture
    - Actual doclets are created in the form of special templates interpreted by the DocFlex Doclet, which is the template interpreter / output generator wrapped in the form of a Javadoc Doclet.
    - The high quality graphic Template Designer allows you to visually design most of things, whose development was possible so far only by direct Java coding.
    - The templates are designed independently on a particular output format. All formatting is specified in some universal way using properties of template components. During the generation, it is rendered with the suitable features available in the selected output format.
    - The elaborated support of template parameters (including multivalued list parameters). The parameters are defined and accessed within templates to adjust dynamic properties of template components. Most of options previously used to control an ordinary doclet now simply become template parameters!
    - The possibility to call templates from one another. This feature (along with the template parameters) makes possible re-using the same templates for different tasks as well as organizing template libraries.
    Data processing
    - The entire Doclet API is represented in the form of a virtual XML document (called Doclet DSM), on which the designing and processing of all templates is based.
    - Sophisticated capabilities for data querying and sorting based on an extension of XPath.
    - Full support of new Java 5.0 language features: Generic Types, Enums, Annotations.
    - Simultaneous support of Java 1.4 and Java 5.
    Creating hyperlinks
    - Generation of an extensive network of hyperlinks interconnecting the whole documentation.
    - The hyperlinks can be generated in all output formats that support them (this currently includes HTML and RTF).
    - The universal way of defining documentation cross-links based on the link/target keys specified in templates.
    - In RTF, the cross-links can be generated in the form of page number references, which effectively makes them usable even in the printed documentation.
    - In HTML, the possibility of loading several frame windows from a single hyperlink at once.
    Universal support of various formatting techniques
    - text formatting: fonts, colors, borders
    - paragraph formatting: margins, pagination control, borders, colors
    - border formatting: styles (solid, double, dashed, dotted), thickness, colors
    - tables: arbitrary cell layouts, borders, nested tables
    - lists: bulleted, numbered, delimited
    - document fields (RTF): page number, number of pages, TOC, etc.
    - page formatting: size, orientation, margins, headers/footers
    - formatting styles
    - rendering of embedded HTML, which means interpreting in non-HTML output formats (such as RTF) the HTML tags embedded in text data (e.g. documentation comments). Almost all HTML tags practically usable in doc-comments are supported.
    Inserting images
    - statically specified in templates
    - dynamically, obtained by <img> tags found in Java comments
    - supported image formats: GIF, PNG, JPG, WMF, EMF, BMP
    Output formats
    - HTML (both framed multi-file and single-file output)
    - RTF (version 1.6 - supported since Word 2000).
    - TXT (plain text), which may be particularly useful for various utilizations of the Java code information provided by the Doclet API generate XML files by it, or SQL files to import into a database).
    Standard Template Set
    - The ready-to-use Standard Template Set included in all editions of DocFlex/Javadoc allows you to immediately generate:
    (*) The framed HTML Java API documentation similar to that generated by the standard Javadoc.
    (*) The same documentation packed in a single HTML file.
    (*) The unmatched quality RTF JavaDoc.
    - Special features supported by standard templates:
    (*) Excluding classes/methods/fields by custom tags and annotations.
    (*) Selective omitting of package qualifiers.
    (*) Selective documenting of custom tags (similar to -tag option of Standard Doclet).
    - By modifying the standard templates, you can quickly customize the generated documentation according to your needs.
    Doclet GUI
    - Besides command line options, DocFlex Doclet supports an alternative user-friendly way to control the template-based doclets interactively -- the high quality Doclet GUI.
    - The Doclet GUI starts with the Generator Dialog, where you can specify all general settings (such as the main template, the output format and the output directory), start the generation, track its progress and stop at any moment you need.
    - The grid-tree-based Parameter Inspector invoked from the Generator Dialog for a selected template allows you to view the descriptions of all template parameters controlling the doclet and set their values according to the parameter data types.
    - The generator options specific for the selected output format can be set in the corresponding Format Option Inspector (also invoked from the Generator Dialog).
    - Once the generation is finished (or cancelled), you can start it again with different settings or a new main template without restarting the whole Javadoc.
    Integrations
    - With any system that runs Javadoc (in particular, see below)
    - Apache Ant
    - Apache Maven 2
    - Eclipse
    For lots more information, see DocFlex/Javadoc homepage: [http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_javadoc/]

    WHAT IS DOCFLEX?
    DocFlex is an innovative technology for development of high quality template-driven documentation/report generators by any kind of data obtained from various software applications via the Java APIs they provide.
    MAIN CONCEPTS
    The whole DocFlex technology is based on four generalizations:
    (1) The mapping of an entire Java API onto a virtual XML-like representation made of some elements and attributes so as to process any such a representation in a universal way using techniques borrowed from the field of XML, like XPath (or more precisely, a conceptual analogue of XPath with some extensions not present in it).
    (2) The abstract formatting concept based on four layouts (flow of text, flow of paragraphs or paragraph-like objects, tables and lists), which can be rendered in most modern document formats (e.g. HTML, RTF, XSL-FO etc.)
    (3) The automatic generation of hyperlinks (or their page number reference equivalents) by matching the sets of keys produced from certain natural properties of the things (entities) being documented and hyper-linked.
    (4) The representation of the object controlling structure of the output generator (made on the first three principles) in the form of a plain-text template with a possibility to create and edit such templates using a graphic Template Designer, which visualizes the controlling objects (now becoming template components) in a form resembling the output they will produce.
    OTHER APPLICATIONS
    In fact, DocFlex/Javadoc is not the only application of DocFlex technology. The following is a summary of other DocFlex software:
    DocFlex/XML
    The SDK and runtime environment for rapid development and execution of template-driven automatic documentation/report generators by any data obtained from XML files.
    This is currently the most complex and advanced application of DocFlex technology. Actually, this tool can be considered a powerful alternative to XSLT. At least, it is definitely able to do what XSLT apparently not (for example, see “XSDDoc” below). We will publish a more detailed comparison “DocFlex/XML versus XSLT” with the next DocFlex/XML release, which is coming very soon.
    DocFlex/XML home page: [http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_xml/]
    DocFlex/XML | XSDDoc
    A template set for DocFlex/XML that implements a high quality W3C XML Schema documentation generator in HTML and RTF output formats.
    For more details, please see: [http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_xml/xsddoc/]
    DocFlex/XML | WSDLDoc
    A similar template set for DocFlex/XML that will implement a high-end WSDL documentation generator.
    This product is not released yet.
    DocFlex/Together
    A template-driven documentation generator for [Borland Together|http://www.borland.com/us/products/together/] (which is a UML modeling tool).
    This is the earliest application of DocFlex technology and probably the most beautiful one. It works only with Together Architect 1.x, which is now obsolete. Unfortunately, since Together 2005, Borland eliminated any open APIs (for unknown reasons). Because of this, further development of DocFlex/Together was impossible.
    DocFlex/Together home page: [http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_together/]
    See also examples of the UML documentation generated with it: [http://www.filigris.com/products/docflex_together/examples/]
    The future DocFlex/UML is going to generate something like this as well.
    DocFlex/UML
    A template-driven UML documentation generator based on [Eclipse EMF|http://www.eclipse.org/emf/]. This tool is in early development stage yet. In a sense, it will continue DocFlex/Together with the focus on integration with other UML tools that use Eclipse EMF.

    Now, DocFlex/Javadoc v1.4 has been released specifically dedicated to Linux (Mac OS X) support:
    (*) Some early bugs have been fixed, which prevented it working properly under Linux.
    (*) A special RTF option was introduced to generate OpenOffice.org friendly RTF (see below)
    (*) Improved support for external document viewers.
    (*) Now, DocFlex/Javadoc software includes the shell script files prepared to quickly install and launch it under Linux
    New RTF option
    A new RTF output option "Tune output for MS Word has been introduced. This option, actually, allows switching off that very tuning (which until now was the default mode) to produce an RTF friendly to open with other non MS Word applications, e.g. OpenOffice.org Writer under Linux.

  • How to enable a new service

    I'd really like to create a new search listing page for the wiki, without simply replacing the existing one.
    So, I'd like to duplicate the existing search.xsl , rename it search2.xsl and then having modified this one, call either as the fancy takes me. e.g. /groups/foobar/search2/?.....
    Can anyone advise as to how new services, I think that's what the wiki calls them, can be 'registered'
    ta.

    You are correct that we create a virtual XML document structure in memory and >pass it through the XSLT template, which is also turned into a virtual document >structure in memory at startup. We put everything inside a context node, so you >could theoretically pass this through as-is using a template and see what's >available to you.
    Forgive me, atom nodes are at the edge of my knowledgebase, but I'm prepared to go away and expand my frontiers. Could you offer any hints as to how I would "pass this through as-is using a template and see what's available"? I feel that this could be very useful to a lot of people.
    If I stripped out the bulk of the contents of a default.xsl template, what would I replace it with to create an HTML listing of the elements/attributes that were available?
    Another avenue by which you can add functionality without changing the Python >files is via JavaScript. Remember that any JavaScript files you include in your >custom theme will get included in all of your pages. You can use these files to >manipulate the DOM and even look up additional information from the server.
    Yes I can see this though my instinct at the moment is to try and leave the functionality on the server. I can see situations where one wouldn't but..
    I'm working on a couple of code samples currently (and will put them online >eventually) but if you have something specific in mind that you're trying to >accomplish, I may be able to help you.
    We'd love to see some code samples, sooner rather than later, but eventually would be good enough.
    I've got a number of ideas and a general feeling that tailoring search, for example, will prove very useful
    Specific example.
    I want to create a listing of pages that relate to a number of books I've written. A page for each book has been created in the wiki and each has a animage of the front cover of the book. I'd also like to create a 'summary' paragraph for each book. Each book is tagged as a 'book'
    So, I want to search for 'book' and create a listing, similar to a current search, but with the image for each book in place of the generic 'star' image followed by the book title (page title) and the summary paragraph.
    Search at the moment uses the snippet - but is there any way to control its length or 'end char' that it 'snips' at ?
    Could I create a named 'div' in a page that search, or the search.xsl, could recognise? Or is there a more elegant method.
    I can get the image by ensuring that each book image is simply called booktitle.jpg which is equivalent to pageTitle.jpg but this is not particularly flexible or in keeping with the spirit of the wiki. Unfortunately the page.plist DOESN'T contain any image/imageName key pairs.
    Is there any legitimate way that we can write into the page.plist and then be able to access entries ?

  • Vendor Master change pointers problem

    Hi ,
    We have a custom program that will read change pointers for Vendor master .
    we use these change pointers to trigger our custom idoc . But we need to select only change pointers of vendors whose changes are confirmed in transaction FK08 or Fk09
    Please let me know how we can check the changpointers for particular vendor is confirmed or not
    Regards,
    Ramesh

    Just as a follow up on this.  I think that within the setup of the classification system you need to configure the tracking of changes.  If you take a look at table TCLA you'll notice that there is a field which indicates if change document are turned on.  I belive that this then relates back to the "virtual" change document objects that I refered to in my previous post.
    It looks like during update tasks that fucntion CLVF_VB_INSERT_CLASSIFICATION and that this checks the TCLA table and then writes the change documents as part of the updates.
    The description of this field in TCLA is:
    Change Documents for Classification
    Indicator: for this class type, a change document is generated for all changes to classification data.
    For technical reasons, this indicator can only be set if the class type is defined for classifying different object types.
    looks like there is some more research needed but this should hoepfully get you on the right track.

  • What to do with SAX events

    I want to iterate over a database recordset and generate sax events to create a virtual xml document. But I'm struggling to see how the events are consumed.
    What do I do with the events that are generated by the strart/end document and element handlers. How do I send to a file, or better still, pass the events onto some tool to output as html/xml pages?
    Cheers again
    -thanks 4earlier code @Trejkaz

    All the examples I have ever seen of SAX are like this:
    You take an XML document and give it to a SAX parser. The SAX parser turns it into a stream of SAX events and calls your handler's startElement() etc. methods, which generally write to a file or something like that.
    Your requirement is the reverse, namely you want to input from the "something like that", make a stream of SAX events, and have those turned into an XML document. I have never seen a decent example of this so I had to work it out for myself. I posted my solution in this forum several months ago but I can't find it now. So here it is again:SAXTransformerFactory factory = (SAXTransformerFactory)TransformerFactory.newInstance();
    TransformerHandler handler = factory.newTransformerHandler();
    // if you want to use XSL to transform what you produce then
    // you need the version that takes a Templates argument.
    handler.setResult(new StreamResult(response.getWriter()));
    // in my case I send the resulting XML document to the servlet
    // response, but you could send it somewhere else.
    SAXParserFactory spf = SAXParserFactory.newInstance();
    XMLReader reader = spf.newSAXParser().getXMLReader();
    reader.setContentHandler(handler);
    reader.setProperty("http://xml.org/sax/properties/lexical-handler", handler);
    reader.setFeature("http://xml.org/sax/features/namespaces", true);
    reader.setFeature("http://xml.org/sax/features/namespace-prefixes", false);
    handler.startDocument();
    startElement(handler, "Doc");
    // I am producing an XML document whose root is a Doc element.
    // Send more SAX events here.
    endElement(handler, "Doc");
    handler.endDocument();

  • Cap6 Missing slides after publishing

    Hi.  Captivate 6 (with latest patch) is failing to publish all slides in a course. With each republish, different slide are skipped. Note that this same course file published successfully about a month ago. The only difference then was that the project did NOT use a playbar - it had custom back and next buttons. Buttons have been removed and the default playbar is now in use.
    There are only 15 slides. The number of slides that show up after publishing varies each time.
    After one publish, I was able to back into the missing slide - then it disappeared again.
    Project specifics:
    publishing to SWF (tried both Flash 10 and 11)
    no audio
    no other imports (such as PowerPoint slides)
    contains a few simple advanced actions (show/hide)
    contains a name variable
    uses animation effects
    No slides are Hidden.
    there is no branching.
    ...what else?
    Assuming the file was corrupted - I started a new project from scratch, just copying the objects and master slides to the new project - exact same thing happened in the newly created project.  I also tried using different playbar themes.  Nothing is working. Help?

    Are you working on project files stored locally on your hard drive?
    Are you on a corporate network with roaming profiles or virtual My Documents folders?
    Are you always using Force Republish All Slides when publishing?

  • Captivate does not open anymore

    Hi everybody,
    Since yesterday morning my Cap7 does not open anymore.
    - I have tried to open the program without opening any projects: failed...
    - I have to tried to open specific project directly: failes...
    When opening projects/the program I can see the loading bar and the the task manager shows me some CPU and working memory usage. The Cap icon also appears in the lower menu bar. But obviously, as soon as the project is fully loaded (so it seems to me), the program is closed and no more processes are visible.
    Background information:
    - Win 7
    - Cap 7
    - in a company environment (last week everything worked without any problems)
    - cannot open Cap in administrator mode
    I could imagine that there have been any updates or whatsoever from out IT department over the weekend. But if this could be the problem, it would be great to have any idea what COULD be the problem.
    Really hoping that you can help as I have to launch course translations in the next days...
    Kind regards!

    Is your company network using virtual My Documents folders or roaming user profiles?  If so, that might be the cause of the issue if there has been a change to the location of your My Documents folder.  Have you recently moved location in the company?
    Since you are unable to open Captivate there's no way to find out where your current Default Locations are.  These are shown on the Preferences > General section.
    Perhaps one of the Adobe reps on this forum can tell you how to find the Captivate log file that will hopefully show where the launch has failed.  In the meantime, contact your IT department, have them remote into your PC and try to launch Captivate using Administrator privileges under their IT admin profile.  If the issue is related to privileges, then they should be able to open it.  If they can, then try and see what the Default Locations are (as mentioned above).  If the default locations are NOT on your hard drive, then change them immediately while the Admin is logged in.

    You'll need to give more details than this:
    Home computer or corporate network?
    If corporate, are you using roaming profiles or virtual My Documents folders?
    What version of windows OS?
    Launching the app with Run As Administrator?

  • Problems with using Captivate 7 behind Proxy

    Since I've upgraded to Adobe Captivate 7, I have issues while using Captivate. The program start takes very long and during working the program window sometimes freezes and then I have to wait about 15 Seconds before Captivate allows continuing my work, sometimes Captivate crashes completely. These issues are gone, when I'm disabling my network connection. I'm using Captivate inside a corporate network and behind firewall and proxy.
    I tested it also with a direct internet connection, no problems. So I'm missing some adresses which are filtered by the proxy. Does a list with necessary connections for Adobe Captivate 7 exist?

    It is well known that Captivate authors should ONLY work on project files that are stored and accessed from the computer's own hard drive.  If you are pulling down project files from your network LAN or saving back up to the LAN using Captivate then you will have these issues.  The use of virtual My Documents folders and roaming user profiles can also play havoc with Captivate's stability.
    You need to set up working folders on your C drive for your Captivate projects.  You'll need one for your Captivate Project Cache, one for your Captivate Publish folder, one for your Video Demo Recording Working Folder, and one for your Layouts and Themes.  All should be on your own hard drive, not the LAN or (if your IT dept uses virtualization or roaming user profiles) in your My Documents folder.
    Once your folders are created you can set these as the Default Locations in Preferences > General Settings > Default Locations and Preferences > Recording > Video Demo etc.
    Since it appears as if you have been working over the network up to this point, you may also find that you need to kill your Preferences folder as well after setting up the local default locations.  Otherwise Captivate will continue to look for the network addresses.

  • Font size of comments in word 2010

    I just opened the doc i have been editing and for some reason all the comment boxes have reduced font size (like 0.5). I cant really read any of them anymore and i have hundreds of them. Maybe it is because i was editting it in a mac version of MS Word yesterday.
    Either way:
    I cant seem to find a way to change the font sizes - can anyone tell me how to do it please?

    I am having the same problem, and it is relatively recent.
    I teach online courses, and the students submit files as Word documents, and I add comments to the document to be returned to them.
    Until recently, I could resize the font in the comment balloons (and even change the style so that the change would apply automatically to all balloons in the document, new and existing). The default 10pt was readable, but I found that it was easier to use
    11 or 12, using the font sizes the student had chosen to use in the document body.
    Starting a few days ago, I can NOT make the font appear in anything other a tiny font that is definitely smaller than the 10-point font. I go through the motions--changing the font size to selected text (all text in the balloon or even one specific word),
    and while the Font settings show that I have changed the size, it is not visibly larger. Even changing the style setting for Comment Text has no effect on anything visible.
    I can zoom the document to make it bigger, but then I can't see both the text in the document and my comments without scrolling back and forth.
    I have tried saving the files as Word 2010 files prior to adding comments, but it doesn't affect the performance at all. Thinking that it might have something to do with the original template used to create the document, I just created a new blank document
    in Word 2010 on my own computer, then added a comment balloon to that. While it does appear in the Comment Text style I created for my own computer (using 11-point instead of 10-point), I cannot make the text change size visibly.
    KW
    Addendum: Further experimentation shows that I can apply a different style to the text inside comment balloons, and that I can change the font size if the default Comment Text style is not used in the comment balloons. I am using the Balloon
    Text style as a workaround until problems are resolved with the Comment Text style.
