BAPI vsRFC in web dynpro

Hi,
can you pls tell me what's the difference in using a BAPI or an RFC function module to retrieve or update data in Web Dynpro? Should I prefer one or an other?
Regards,
    Anita

Anita,
There is no difference. BAPI is just a "subclass" of RFC. It is standard RFC that implements method of business object written according ceratin conventions.

  • How to Debug a BAPI from a Web Dynpro application

I have a Web Dynpro application calling a BAPI, and I would very much like to see what data the Web Dynpro application is passing into the BAPI, and then debug the BAPI.
Is there a way to do this? I'm wondering if it is possible to somehow set up the ABAP stack so that on receipt of the BAPI call, it appears on the tRFC queue waiting for execution.
However it is done, I need a way to step through the BAPI on the ABAP stack.
    BR,
    Tony.

    Hi Anthony,
The ABAP runtime environment contains various tools that you can use for analysis purposes, such as for debugging source code. All source code written for Web Dynpro applications in ABAP can normally be tested using the debugger.
To allow it to test other Web Dynpro-specific program entities too, the debugger has been equipped with a special enhancement. In the phase model in the active application, you can typically see the following information at various points in time:
-The structure of the content of the current controller,
-The properties of the UI elements in the layout of the current view
    -The currently instantiated component usages
    Starting the Debugger
The functions for debugging Web Dynpro entities are embedded in the new debugger. You therefore need to have selected the new debugger in your Workbench settings.
    Selecting the New Debugger
    1. In the menu, choose Utilities -> Settings.
    2. A dialog box now appears that contains two nested tab page areas. Choose the “parent” tab page ABAP Editor.
    3. The settings for ABAP Editor always open with the content of the child tab page Editor. Here, select Front End Editor (New).
    4. Now switch to the Debugging tab page in the ABAP Editor settings and select New Debugger.
    5. Save your changes and close the dialog.
    Starting the Debugging Process
To run an application in debugging mode, you first need to set an external breakpoint in display mode in one of the methods in the component.
Now start a test run of the application from ABAP Workbench as usual.
The method in which you set the breakpoint depends on the purpose of the test run. To debug a view, for example, it is best to set the breakpoint in method WDDOMODIFYVIEW. Provided that the context of the view controller is not filled using a supply method, the view is fully instantiated in the phase model at this point in time.
Selecting the Web Dynpro Tool in the New Debugger
When you start the application, another session opens automatically for the debugger. If you have not yet saved any personal settings with regard to the layout of the debugger, the Editor tool will now appear on the left, with the Display Variables tool on the right.
    1. Select one of the three desktops in order to reconfigure it for debugging the Web Dynpro application (see Designing Work Areas).
    2. The right-hand edge of the debugger window has a bar of function icons. Choose the Replace Tools icon:
    3. In the next dialog box (New Tool) open the lowest node (Special Tools) and choose Web Dynpro.
    4. Confirm the dialog box.
On the right of the debugger desktop, you will see that the previous tool has now been replaced by the Web Dynpro debugger. You can save this setting for future debugging activities. To do this, choose Save Layout In the debugger’s general toolbar.
    Thankyou,
    Ramganesh.

  • RFC/BAPI Call (ABAP Web Dynpro)- DYNPRO_SEND_IN_BACKGROUND

    Hi all,
I'm developing an ABAP Web Dynpro application which utilise a RFC enabled function module. When I tried to execute the function module through the browser it terminated with an abap dump. I checked ST22 and found the following dump: 'DYNPRO_SEND_IN_BACKGROUND'. However when I tried executing it using SE37, the function module works fine.
    Any ideas?
    Ricky

    Hello Ricky,
to my guts feeling that should be fine, but I have never used call dialog in such a scenario. If I were in your shoes I would try to break down the problem:
    - Is it of general nature?
    - Is it specific to this dialog?
To distinquish that I would write the most basic dialog and use it the same way as the target one. If this fails too, using FuBa´s with call dialog seems to be not possible => try to avoid that situation. If the test succeeds, well the hunt for the needle in the haystack is open.
    Good Luck

  • Call Transaction (BAPI) in ABAP Web Dynpro

I'm developing a ABAP WD application which make use of a RFC BAPI. The BAPI will then use call transaction to perform certain operation on R3.
    <b>CALL TRANSACTION 'IQS12' USING bdcdata MODE 'P'
      MESSAGES INTO itab.</b>
It works fine when I tested it using TCode SE37. When the call transaction fails all error message is trapped inside the internal table.
However when I run it using ABAP WD, it does not return the internal table but an error page on the portal. The error message was displayed on the portal page. I would like to handle the error message by my own. Is there any way doing this?
Appreciate if anyone can sort this out for me. Thanks in advance.
    Ricky

    Hi,
It's okie now. I have found out that this is a known issue and there's a SAP notes (935725) for that.
According to the notes, call transaction with message type E will fail if the BAPI is executed through http.
    Thanks for replying. Appreciate that.

  • Web DynPro Adaptive RFC proxies configuration

    Hi,
When using Adaptive RFC proxies to call BAPIs in my Web DynPro application I need to go to the content management web interface (localhost:50000/webdynpro/welcome) to set them up. How can I automate this configuration for, say, quick deployment on another server ?
    Thanks,
    Romain GUY

From your problem description, I assume it's the JCO destinations that you want to create programatically in the SLD. This is possible. Check out the API documentation for the class WDSystemLandscape.

  • Looking for a beginner guide - Adaptive RFC  call BAPI  in Web Dynpro Java

    Hi,
im new in SAP Developeing. I developed some basic web Dynpro applications (after some tutorials) and they are all working.
Now i want to build an Web Dynpro application with an adaptive RFC Model.
I already imported the adaptive RFC Modell with a function Model (BAPI Z_...) from the R3 System successfully.
But if i deploy the application i will get following error:
com.sap.tc.webdynpro.services.exceptions.TypeNotFoundException: type extern:mypackages.com.types.BapiModel:mypackages.com.types.Zmbs_Bapi_Dispo_Orderdata could not be loaded: com.sap.dictionary.runtime.DdException: TypeBroker failed to access SLD: Error while obtaining JCO connection.

........Looks like a have a Problem with JCO.
Is there a good guide, which explains the Basic steps in developeing Web dynpro applications and BAPI ?!

thank you guys for all the answers.I have to read all the documentations.
    to my szenario:
I installed on my notebook the Trial Versions of:
SAP NetWeaver Application Server 7.00/Java AS 7.00
SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio Version: 7.0.14
All my basic Web Dynpro Applications in Java are running (even with Adobe Interactive Forms) on the local NetWeaver Trail- Web AS Trail perfectly.
Now i want to connect per RFC to another SAPERP Server, which is in the intranet.
I did the whole RFC tutorial with the flights -
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/c3/76b45d9688e04abe1a1070410ddc1e/content.htm (also with the JCO codeing etc)
so my web dynpro application should work.
I think I have to configure - like ramesh said something on the NetWeaver Trail.
So what do i need and configure excactly on my Netweaver Trial to work with RFC - to call the BAPIS in the other System?
    - SLD ? JCO ?
If i over Web Dynpro - Content Administrator - >
it says "Connection to System Landscape Directory (SLD) could not be opended successfully." and all the buttons
create Jco destinations etc. are greyed out.
I didn´t configured the SLD and JCO in the Netweaver yet.

  • Call BAPI in Web Dynpro

I want to call a BAPI using web Dynpro.
In my case, the BAPI without input parameter, it only give out a out table after execute.
So that I include this Bapi in the model and directly call it in wdDoInit like this :
            wdContext.nodeZbapi_Outvendor_Input().currentZbapi_Outvendor_InputElement().modelObject().execute();
    wdContext.nodeZbapi_Outvendor_Input().invalidate();
However, no any result can see. Anybody could tell me what is the correct way to call BAPI in WD?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    Don't invalidate the zbapi node...
If your output can be recieved from the node say.., output from the bapi side and you mapped it to controller to node say OutVend...
    Then use this code
    wdContext.nodeOutVend().bind(wdContext.nodeZbapi_Outvendor_Input().currentZbapi_Outvendor_InputElement().modelObject().getOutput());
    Any queries revert back.
If this is not working post your context structure in your reply and tell where you are expect the output
    Best Wishes,

  • Web Dynpro for ABAP: Tutorial 2 - BAPI Usage

    Hi ,
I am new in  WD for ABAP and i trying to finish tutorials from SDN. The  Second tutorial
"Web Dynpro for ABAP: Tutorial 2 -BAPI Usage" is giving me headache .I was following the tutorial in a letter ,
but the table is not filled d after I hit  "search" button. Does someone had same experience and possible solution.
    Thanks
    Chris

Actually in this application the data that is required is flowing. So I have tried making the import parameters as the controller attributes in spite of context node in the service call. Then it passes the data into the import parameters as WD_THIS->KUNNR.
But still when I am debugging the data is not coming. What could be the issue.

  • Web Dynpro with Bapis using Miniwas 6.20 or Sneak Preview 6.40 ABAP

Does anyone know if I can I use a web Dynpro that uses BAPIs to connect to a Miniwas 6.20 like a Backend system?
I have the SLD configuration OK, I was able to create the Jco connection, but when I test the Metadata application  with this Technical System (Miniwas 6.20) at the Content Administrator I get an error message: "Group PUBLIC not found" (I also tried with SPACE, like a Logon Group). I have the corresponding settings in the service file on Windows folder (sapmsBSP 3600) and the others settings too.
I think the problem is to try to define Logon Groups at this kind of R/3 system (Miniwas 6.20) ... It's possible to use Logon Group with Miniwas?
I want to know if somebody had tried to do this practice (Web Dynpro using BAPIS)against to Miniwas System.
Please I would like to get a yes or no answer
    Janett

    Hi,
You have to configure the PUBLIC logon group in SMLG transaction.
Once configured the SLD and JCO-Destinations in the WebDynpro Content Administrator, we had the same problem with METADATA_DIRECTORY JCO-Connection. When we tested it, we got an error related with the PUBLIC LOGON GROUP. This JCO destination is a metadata directory connection and use the SAP message server to connect to the PUBLIC logon group.
You can create the PUBLIC logon group easly with SMLG, but it is necesary to add a "Logon Favorite Storage" in "SMLG Transaction - Display control/status Area" called PUBLIC too.
    More information at:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/28/1c623c44696069e10000000a11405a/content.htm
After that, all JCO connections and the webdybpro application should run fine.
    Regards.

  • Can't get BAPI return node in web dynpro!!

I'm calling BAPI in web dynpro, I already map the <BAPIName>_Input->Output->Return to our custom controller context. I can get the value of some other output parameters in Output node, but can't get the return node.
wdContext->currentOutputElement is Ok, but wdContext->currentBapiReturnElement is null, what is the problem??!!!
Can anybody give me an hint, or give me a example to access the return value of Bapi??
    Thank you very much!
    Regards,
    Xiaoming Yang

    Hi Vitaliano,
    Thanks for your reply.
yes, I've call the invalidate method, like this:
    wdContext.currentBapi_Trip_Create_From_Data_InputElement().modelObject().execute();
    //wdContext.nodeBapireturn().invalidate();//do I need this?
    wdContext.nodeOutput().invalidate();
    But it still can't work!
The return node is a child note of Output, does it ok?
    Thank you!

  • Error - Creating a Web Dynpro Application Accessing ABAP Functions

    Dear All,
we are trying to implement a web dynpro application with accessing ABAP functions.
    Previous tasks:
    -     insert the ABAP system into the SLD from the NWDI System (Transaction RZ70; the ABAP system is correctly insert into the SLD => technical systems)
    -     equipped the JCO connections with the web dynpro content manager (ping and test = OK)
It’s the standard tutorial out of the SDN called “Creating a Web Dynpro Application Accessing ABAP Functions”.
    Some hints:
    -     There are no errors after the implementation and the “rebuild” of the project in the NWDS
    -     The auto deployment works fine to the development runtime system. The application is shown in the Web Dynpro content manager

    -     I’m able to start the application out of the Web Dynpro content manager with “run” => only the user interface is displayed without any functionality
    -     The “normal” start over the NWDS fails => error text
“com.sap.tc.webdynpro.services.sal.core.DispatcherException: The requested deployable object 'local/J08_Flugdat_Daventdcflight~xxx.com' and application 'FlightListApp' are not deployed on the server. Please check the used URL for typos.”
There two different URLs in use.
    Start via NWDS:
    http://frasapp562:50000/webdynpro/dispatcher/J08_Flugdat_Daventdcflight~xxx.com/FlightListApp
Start via web dynpro content manager:
    http://frasapp562:50000/webdynpro/dispatcher/xxx.com/aventdc~flight/FlightListApp
For test purposes, we started the BAPI (BAPI_Flight_Getlist) on the ABAP system directly. It works.
Any ideas about the system behaviours (different URLs and missing functionality)?
    Thanks a lot in advanced!

  • Logical database in web dynpro program

    Hi all,
I want to add LDB (PNP) into my web dynpro program.by which i can get the data from database to the Application server. After Authrization check.
I also want to use Infotypes 0082 in my program.
    Points will be sured.
    Thanks.

    Sanket,
Can you explain "add LDB"? Webdynpro gets data and displays data from R/3. So any LDB has to be part of the RFC/BAPI you call.
Same with infotype. If you want to "use" the structure of an infotype in Webdynpro, this structure needs to be part of the import/export of RFC/BAPI's signature.
    Thanks,
    Rajit

  • Is there a way to get Web Dynpro ABAP available in a ECC 5 - NW2004 env?

We will start developing an offline Adobe interactive form with email functionality for ECC 5 on very short terms. We have to decide asap what client/server configuration we will use for this new functionality. We will also develop an online interactive form and an offline form with upload/download functionality for ECC 5. We will have to setup a client/server configuration that supports all 3 scenario's.
The main reason we would like to have NW2004S available for ECC 5 is because we would like to develop the forms in Web Dynpro ABAP instead of Java. Guided Procedures is a "nice to have" too, but not really important at this moment.
At this moment we think we have 3 options:
    1. Investigate if we can make an Adobe solution in WDA for ECC 5 with our current setup
    2. Upgrade ECC 5 - NW 2004 -> NW 2004S to get WDA functionality available
    3. Install ADS for NW 2004 to be able to create Adobe solutions in ECC 5, then we will have to develop in WDJ
    1. We have the following configuration up and running: NW2004S - CRM 5 and ADS installed: both Java and ABAP stack work properly. We are wondering if we could develop an Adobe interactive form in Web Dynpro ABAP in CRM 5 using BAPI's to retrieve the data from ECC 5 and put it on the form for display or update purposes. Also we have questions about the email functionality: do forms have to be send by email via a mailserver from ECC 5 via CRM 5 and back or can this be done directly from and to ECC 5 or is it not possible at all? Also we don't know if we can develop an online interactive form for ECC 5 via CRM 5. The current setup is not a real option for us right now as we see far too many uncertainties. Does somebody can give us some answers on the possibilities we are looking for?
    2. My assumption is that upgrading ECC5 to ECC6 can be compared with upgrading 46C to ECC5. If my assumption is correct, this would mean an upgrade project with a 6 months leadtime within our company. If my assumption is wrong, please let me know. This upgrade will happen some day, but it has not been planned for 2007. So unfortunately, for us this is not an option at the moment because we cannot wait that long. I was hoping an upgrade of NW2004 -> NW2004s was not that time consuming but I guess this can be compared with a SAP upgrade project like 46C -> ECC 5.
    3. Installing Adobe Document Services for NW2004 is not our preferred solution but we think it is the safest/easiest solution at this moment to get started with Adobe interactive forms for ECC 5 on short terms. We will have to develop in Web Dynpro for Java, so be it.
WDA is not a must but if we can find a client/server setup which gives us the possibility to build in WDA for ECC 5 functionality, that would be great. That's why I dropped the question on SDN. I want to be sure we choose the best option possible at this moment for us.
    kind regards
    Angelique

Yesterday I got new information through SDN which sounds very interesting:
There are technical repository integration points between ECC and the underlying SAP NetWeaver release. To get Web Dynpro for ABAP, you could install a stand-alone SAP NetWeaver 2004s system (without ERP) side-by-side.
Somebody else wrote: we set up a 3-system landscape of NW04s and have configured single sign on and trusted RFC's so that users can hit the webdynpro pages via the portal, and those systems make the necessary queries to the backend systems via RFC.
Does somebody know if this stand-alone system could be a proper solution for our situation? Does somebody foresee any problems related to Adobe LiveCycleDesigner or ADS?

  • Web Dynpro as Callable object in GP using PDF Forms

    Hi All,
I somehow want to integrate a user filling out a pdf form within a Guided Procedure. So far I have created a local web dynpro DC and I want to make it a Web Dynpro Callable Object (GP Interface). The problem is, I want the user to be able to see the PDF form when filling out the form. For example, if they had a role in the portal where they can invoke the Web Dynpro application with the pdf form, then when they click submit on the pdf they invoke the guided procedure...is this possible? This is so, I can use the web dynpro to do some data validation and call some bapis to get info, then submit this all to the GP. Is this achievable? I know how to do most things, I just want to know things like when is the "execute" and "getDescription" methods called? I want my execute( com.sap.caf.eu.gp.co.api.IGPExecutionContext executionContext ) method to call a bapi also. Is that possible? How do I automate a GP process when I click submit on the pdf form?
    Thanks in advanced
    TM

    Hi,
You can integrate a PDF control in a Web Dynpro view. Refer the following links for that:
<a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/dc/f1783fe3263042e10000000a114084/frameset.htm">Example of the Use of an Interactive PDF Form (SAP Library - Web Dynpro for Java)</a>

Also you can create Web Dynpro Java callable object in GP by implementing the IGPWebDynproCO interface. Refer the following links for that:
<a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/50d74ada-0c01-0010-07a8-8c118d408e59">Implementing a Web Dynpro Callable Object which Implements the GP Interface</a>

You can start a GP process using the public API:
<a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/43/fcdf77fc6510b3e10000000a11466f/frameset.htm">Starting and Terminating Processes Using the GP API (SAP Library - Creating Composite Applications)</a><a href="https://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.comhttp://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/5f27e290-0201-0010-ff82-c21557572da1">Creating Interactive Forms in Web Dynpro for Java</a>
Also you can start a GP process using Web Service:
<a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/44/44c59fd7c72e84e10000000a155369/frameset.htm">Starting a Process Using Web Services (SAP Library - Creating Composite Applications)</a>

Refering the above links you'll get a fairly good idea how to integrate Adobe forms in WDP and how to start GP process programitically. My suggestion for your requirement would be if always you need to start the process after the user submits the Adobe form, then consider having the Adobe form as the first step for the process. In that case you don't need to start the process programitically. Whenever the user starts filling up the Adobe form the GP process will start. You can refer <a href="/people/dipankar.saha3/blog/2007/03/02/how-to-present-your-gp-processes-to-the-end-user">this blog</a> on how to start a GP process as an iview link in portal.
Otherwise if based on certain conditions you need to start the process then you can either use the Java API or the web service to start the process from Web Dynpro. You should have the Adobe form embedded in Web Dynpro and on submit event you can check the conditions and start the process if required.
    Thanks,
    Dipankar

  • Web Dynpro ABAP in SAP E-Recruiting

    Hi,
We just imported SP8 for our SAP E-Recruiting 6.0. SP8 offers Web Dynpro ABAP as candidate UI. One question we have is how WD pages incorporated for recruiters who still use BSP pages. For example, when a recruiter logs into E-Recruiting and finds a specific candidate, he/she can click on "Candidate Profile" to get to that candidate's pages. In BSP technology, recruiter actually uses exactly the same pages that candidate uses for Work Experience, Education, etc.. With candidate UI using WD technology, does recruiter use the same WD pages when displaying candidate profile information? I have been searching all the possible places, such as IMG, SICF, in order find a spot so that I can set the switch on, but so far unsuccessful.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Li

    Hi Li ,
At best of my understanding in WD ABAP , its possible to make one WebDynpro page serving same purpose ( showing profile deatils  ) visible for manty( Candidate , as well as Recruiter ) ....
I would like to know what exactly you want from web Dynpro ..then I will be in better position to tell you.
    FYI ...
    1) Web Dynpro ABAP
As the name suggests Web Dynpro for ABAP uses exactly the same meta model as its cousin Web Dynpro for Java. A Web Dynpro component, a Web Dynpro view, a Web Dynpro model, a Web Dynpro controller have the same semantics both for ABAP and Java. The main difference is the designtime environment, the development infrastructure and the runtime environment.
The designtime environment is properly embedded in the ABAP Workbench where Web Dynpro artifacts are simply a new category like BSP applications or classical dynpro based applications before. Also no surprises regarding the development infrastructure. The correction and transport system keeps track on all changes that are done, versions them and helps to propagate the Web Dynpro application from development to production like you would do with ordinary BSP or dynpro-based applications.
Last not least the execution platform is the ABAP server that produces application content ready to be integrated in the NetWeaver Portal seamlessly. Features like portal eventing can be used between applications written in ABAP or applications developed with Java.
2 ) I can give you links that can help you a lot.
First of all start doing SAP SDN tutorials .
Create some compenents with BAPI , Component usage and ALV .
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/02e1fa45-0801-0010-10a0-f1cf47e8c943
    /people/marilyn.pratt/blog/2005/12/20/web-dynpro-for-abap
Try to Download demo tutorials from SDN library & Try to search WebDynpro ABAP WebLogs .
Wait not just that SAP has provided you with ample demo example of WD ABAP already bundled with SAP . Just Try out Components starting with WDR . I can tell you few like WDR_TEST_EVENTS ( It shows how every UI elments to use )
    See packages like SWDP_DEMO , SALV_WD_DEMO
    there are many more .
