Basic css question

Hi all this is a basic question but I need to ask it
Ther h1, h2, h3 classes that are set normally at the
beginning of each style sheet does that meanm that the same values
are set throughout the whole page? If I have another div how can I
set another value for the h2 and how would I do it? Is it the same
for classes and divs? Sorry just trying to to understand it,
thanks

And, since a given ID can only be used once per page, it
would only apply to
the first such container it found. A class can be used many
times on a
page, and so it would apply to every such container.

  • Basic CSS question. New learner

    I am just learning CSS and HTML and I have a basic question. How can I make my float left div's expand down for content? I have a wrapper and within my wrapper I have 3 columns all floated left with margins added to them, I ommited height so that my columns can expand as I add stuff to it. I have content on my columns, but instead of wrapping the content down as I add...the div's are expanding and dropping below each other because there is no space for them. I tried clearing, but I am not sure I understand the clear property well so I stuck "none" in there for now. Here is my HTML and CSS:

    This is what I am seeing on my display in Dreamweaver. As you can see, these rectangular elements are my div's. They are supposed to line up side by side, but my "content" isn't filling my div's properly, but rather expanding them causing my div's to drop down below each other.
    Thanks for any input.

    It would be much easier to advise you if you could post a URL for a site or page.
    Height and CSS is a bit of mystery to me but the most simple principle is that content is the way to give an element height.  There are ways around it and you might like to Google "Faux Columns CSS" or something like it.  The principle is that you construct an image that is a slim band of color that align with your intended columns.  You apply that image as a background in you CSS and set it to repeat down the page.  Then as your content grows or differs the graphic takes care of that.
    There are other ways such as using positioning and javascript but they are more complicated.

  • Basic CSS Question - But Can't Sort Out for Self

    On my index page, I am creating two divs within my template: .property#links and .property#listings
    http://12caliboguecay.com/index.htm
    I have tried applying css to these elements, but nothing seems to happen and I am flummoxed as to why. Help?
    Also, a refresher on this...why am I applying a class to the div to make it work? why not just call an element a div? what does the class do for me?
    Thanks for any assistance.
    Samantha

    .property#links and .property#listings are valid CSS selectors.
    .property #links (with whitespace between them) is a descendant selector:
    <div class="property">
    <div id="links>
    whereas
    .property#links (no whitespace between) is a multiple selector where class="property" and id="links" are found within the same tag:
    <div class="property" id="links">

  • 2 CSS Questions on my layout

    Hi everyone, I have two CSS questions regarding my layout.
    First off, it is located at:
    http://robles.clunet.edu/~ssmi/tsr9/tsr9template.html
    The CSS is embeded in the file (it will linked from a
    different file once I am done with this design, but beside the
    point)
    My first question is about how I can keep the right top image
    from being bumped down to the next line when the window is resized.
    I want it to squeeze into some, but then at a point have the scroll
    bars kick in.
    My other question is how I could make the title image "The
    Scott Report" centered between the two left and right images up
    top.
    Could anyone help out?
    Thanks a lot!

  • Basic iPhoto questions:

    I have some Basic iPhoto questions before I start using the program:
    - does iPhoto apply any compression or change images in any way when they
    are imported?
    - after images are imported, can the original source folder of images be deleted off of the mac?
    - can Quicktime files exported from iPhoto be viewed on a Windows computer?
    - can iPhoto handle large resolution images that might be as large as 8-15mb each? does it display them quick? are there any known file size issues?
    Thanks!!!!

    kat.
    Is there a way to use iPhoto on a network so other users can read and possibly write to an iPhoto library on a networked mac?
    iPhoto is a consumer level photo organiser, not a server. It's possible to share photos but libraries are very difficult and fraught with the danger of database corruption. Some have reported success.
    Is it possible to password protect or secure certain images in the library so they can not be seen by anyone?
    No. The best I can suggest there is to create a second library and store it in a secure area like a protected dmg. But remember, you can only have one library open at a time.
    After photos are deleted from iPhoto, are there any remaining traces or cached files anywhere other than the trash
    If you delete photos from iPhoto and empty the iPhoto trash then the pics are removed from the Finder as well. They remain as findable as any other deleted file from that point, which is, very, if the searcher in knowledgeable.

  • Object class deployment - Basic form question

    OK, I subclass calendar object from Oracle provided standard
    object class. What do I need to deploy to use this form now
    apart from calendar.pll and my fmx. What about the object class
    from which I sub-class. Do I need to compile and deploy that
    also? How will form resolve this on run time the parent object
    class as I really did not copy, just sub class and we do not
    deploy original class? Basic form question. Thanks.

    You can set the "help" property on the field (which gives you the little "information" icon link beside the field).
    You could also try adding another field of another class above or below:
    <Display class='InlineAlert'/>
    <Display class='ErrorMessage'/>
    <Display class='HtmlPage'/>
    ..etc

  • Have a CSS question

    I have a picture i am trying to put inside a div that has a class already which makes pictures have a frame around them when i insert them into it, which is fine for the main image but i am trying to add an extra image in there and i dont want that frame to be there.
    I will attach a picture and a link to the site i am talking about.
    If anyone can help me with this CSS question or how i can go about getting rid of the frame around the step 1, step 2 and step 3.

    Take the frame class out the div and apply it to select images like this:
    <div>

  • Adding Date/Time Field + X Number of Days - Basic Calculation Question

    I am assuming this is a basic calculation question. New to Adobe LiveCycle Forms.
    I have a simple form containing a table. The table appears as such:
    Text
    Formatted as Date/Time Fields
    Header 3
    Monday
    user wil choose the beginning date (Date/Time) this is DateTimeField1
    Tuesday
    this should calculate DateTimeField1 + 1
    Wednesday
    this should calculate DateTimeField1 + 2
    Thursday
    this should calculate DateTimeField1 + 3
    Friday
    this should calculate DateTimeField1 + 4
    Saturday
    this should calculate DateTimeField1 + 5
    Sunday
    this should calculate DateTimeField1 + 6
    Calculations are performed after the date is chosen for Monday. My mind tells me the simple calculation of DateTimeField1 + 1 is not going to work (and in fact doesn't!) as it needs to change Monday to a number first. I saw on another thread the following:
    Num2Date(Date2Num(Date(DateTimeField1), "DD.MM.YYYY")+7, "DD.MM.YYYY")
    Thought this was going to get me close. No cigars though!
    Any quick help is greatly appreciated. And since I am new to this, details about what needs to be changed would be great too!
    Thanks

    Here an addition for you date field.
    This FormCalc script in the exit:Event will check it the selected date is on a monday.
    If not it will go the days back until the last monday.
    var Selection = Date2Num($.formattedValue, DateFmt(2))
    var WeekDay = Num2Date(Selection, "E")
    var NewDate
    if (WeekDay eq 1) then
              NewDate = Selection - 6
    elseif (WeekDay eq 3) then
              NewDate = Selection - 1
    elseif (WeekDay eq 4) then
              NewDate = Selection - 2
    elseif (WeekDay eq 5) then
              NewDate = Selection - 3
    elseif (WeekDay eq 6) then
              NewDate = Selection - 4
    elseif (WeekDay eq 7) then
              NewDate = Selection - 5
    else
              NewDate = Selection
    endif
    $ = Num2Date(NewDate, "EEE DD.MM.YYYY")
    Hope this helps, too.

  • Basic Exporting Question

    My main question is a very basic exporting question, but here is a super-condensed explanation of my big-picture goal for context:
    Large (~450 MB) aiff on CD --> trim w/ Quicktime --> small (~16 MB) MP3 in iTunes
    I would like to take an audio file (aiff) that is approximately 450 MB and export it from Quicktime and in doing so, reduce the file size and convert it to MP3. When I simply try to export it, it doesn't ask me about what size I want, nor does it give the option of MP3 formatting.
    I have figured out how to reach my goal, but it's a mess. After I make my trims in QT, I have to:
    1. select "share" instead of "export".
    2. It asks me what size I want and I select small.
    3. The file is then exported as a Quicktime movie into Mail and the size is reduced from 450 MB to about 20 MB.
    4. I then have to "right-click" on the attachment in the email that is created,
    5. save the attachment,
    6. discard the email,
    7. import the file into iTunes, and
    8. create an MP3 in iTunes to finally arrive at my goal.
    This seems like a ridiculously convoluted process to change a large aiff to a small MP3 and put it in iTunes. Any suggestions?

    Thanks. I guess the basic answer to my question is that it can't be done in one or two fell swoops. The problem is that it starts on a burned disc, and I need to make edits to it before it ends up in iTunes (to be eventually used in iWeb). I was hoping to avoid juggling back and forth between iTunes and QT. I either would have to send it back to QT to do the edits after -->iTunes-->mp3, or import the large file from the CD to QT, make the edits, save changes, import large file to iTunes, convert to mp3.

  • CheckboxDatagrid (extended) CSS question

    Hello
    In our application we make use of the CheckBoxDataGrid, which rocks.
    We are playing with the CSS and noticed that we arent able to change the "chromeColor" property, in CSS. Only in the MXML.
    I would like to set the style in the CheckBoxDataGrid super class, but I do not see a way to specify "headerStyleName".
    How and where would that occur in an extended class? Would it need to happen in the constructor?
    Also, how would you re-assign the CSS, in ActionScript, in this extended DataGrid class? Any ideas?
    Any help is appreciated, thanks folks!

    However, presenting information in a way that requires users to scroll the viewport horizontally is clunky. This will be particularly true in combination with an IR. Think about the user experience: is there an alternative way of displaying this information?

  • Basic CSS Functionality Questions

    Hi,
    I have a CSS 11501 loaner on the way from Cisco, but was hoping to ask a few questions ahead of time. I am relatively new to this, so bear with me.
    I have three offices connected via a VPN between two pix devices. Local users and anonymous web traffic all funnels through the remote office. I am hoping I can incorporate a CSS box to direct traffic (via a VPN to another pix) to a third office in the event the www server at the main office is not reachable, but return to the first office when it is back online.
    I am a little confused by VIP. Right now, my domain name resolves to an IP address on the outside of my pix which NATs and sends the request on to my web server. If the CSS is behind it, do I create a VIP that maps to the actual IP of the www server, and have the pix send traffic to the VIP?
    I have read the PDFs found online, but am still a little foggy.
    Thanks,
    JM

    the Pix will have to send the traffic to the VIP.
    The VIP should be an address existing only on the CSS and that the rest of your network knows how to reach.
    The CSS will then nat to the real server ip.
    Gilles.

  • Basic text CSS question

    I'm taking over the maintenance of someone else's site and I want to add some simple CSS that will create some text that I can apply to areas intended for lots of text to be read.
    1.) Would adding the following to the CSS file serve my purpose?
    .readingtext {
    font-size: 1.2em;
    font style: arial
    font color: #000
    2.) How do I then add the styles to any blocks of text in DW to apply this style?
    Thanks in advance.

    Yes, I did mean to format some text.
    I do not have a link to a page because it is all offline right now.
    As an example, this bulleted list is in all bold, and I am not quite sure why, so I wanted to format it differently. There are pages that have text in tables like this, and they do not show up all in bold. How would I apply the new style to this text? Thanks!

  • Basic table question

    Sorry for the basic question, but what I am trying to figure
    out is the best way to do something. I have a main table and I want
    to insert a table into it for a nav bar about 1/4 of the way down
    on the main table. I am wondering which of these 3 ways to "best"
    do it, all 3 I have played with do but I am wondering the best way:
    1 - place it to align at the top and hit the return key
    before until is down to where I want it
    2 - place a empty table above it and make the height of it an
    amount to push the nav bar table down to where I want it
    3 - place it to center align and then use a margin on the
    bottom to push it up to where I want it
    Thanks.

    Definately NO

    Height is invalid so NO

    Nearly. Why don't you align it to the top and use a top
    margin to push
    it down....that's more logical.
    Use some css like this:
