Basic n-Tier development question

Greetings,
I have a project that had a datasource in it. Everything works fine. However, I need to create 2 different UIs - client and Web.
So I created a project (MyDataProj) with a datasource that gets the data. I then created a new solution (for the client UI - MyClientUI) and added the data project (MyDataProj) to the new solution (and updated the references). I then created a form in the MyClientUI project and tried to drag the data source onto the form. Won't work.
If I drag from the data explorer window, I get a crossed circle. I can create a dataset based on the datasource in the other project, but I can't then get it to bring up any tools to allow me to easily bind the data to a datagrid, textbox, etc.
Essentially, I want to have 2 solutions (MyClientUI and MyWebUI) and have both use a common project (MyDataProj) from which they will get their data.
FWIW, I know how to bind the controls programatically, but am trying to find a way to use the tools in VS.NET and ODT to do this.
I am sure I am missing a really obvious step, but was hoping that someone here could point me to a good link or reference on how to do this.
Thanks,
JustMe

    Question:  I am new to LR and have it set up on a Mac desktop and laptop.  On the laptop, the Basic function under Develop simply disappeared.  I am lost.  Help.

    It's a common issue. The Basic panel is merely hidden.
    Hiding/unhiding panels is actually a feature of Lightroom but it is unintuitive - few people know it exists - so most newcomers are thrown when a panel somehow gets hidden.
    Right-click anywhere in the right hand side panel area and a context menu will appear.
    Click the Basic option to make the Basic panel re-appear.

    Right-click on any of the other Headings (tone curve, detail, etc.) And put a checkmark in basic as well as any other sections that you want displayed.

  • Widget Development Question

    I need help setting margins on my widget with CSS. I have messed around with the margin properties of CSS, but how do they work in a widget environment? When the CSS is in a widget, would the margin be counting from the edge of the background image? In Safari, the margin counts from the edge of the viewing window.
    Please Help.

    Hi, the Apple Discussions are really meant for end users of Apple technologies, so it's usually hard to find answers to development questions here.
    However, Apple does have excellent mailing lists (listservs) covering all their technologies for developers. If you post your question to "dashboard-dev" at lists.apple.com, you'll be sure to find a lot of helpful answers there. You can also try the forums at dashboardwidgets.com. Good luck!

  • Development Question Pertaining to Discoverer and Oracle Apps

    Hi All,
    I have a Disco Development question. First of all I am in an Oracle Apps environment.
    Here is my situation. I received a specification to make sure our End User Layer has the capability to create a workbook
    which has the following information in it:
    1. Onhand inventory by lot information using the GMF_PERIOD_BALANCES table.
    2. Demand pegging (from the msc_demands table) associated with this onhand inventory.
    3. Accounting cost information (GL_ITEM_CST information).
    4. They also want more detailed item master information information (e.g. catalog descriptive element information and costing category).
    Here is a solution to address this:
    -Take existing inventory by lot views we have and use the the gmf_period_balances table in lieu of the mtl_onhand_quantity_details table. Within this same
    view, add pegging information. This has been implemented in a development environment.
    -Take existing costing views (using the component_cost_details table) and replace with the gl_item_cst.
    -Take existing view associated with item detail information and make sure all catalog descriptive elements and costing category information have been added.
    My next main dilemma for this problem is to address the best way to join these views in the Discoverer end user layer. Here are the approaches I see:
    1. Encapsulate the item detail information with the onhand, period end with pegging view. Next, create a join with the costing view.
         pros: In my testing of this, the totalling works with extending item costing (item cost x onhand inventory).
         cons: Refresh times and scalability of this solution are concerning (consider a couple of people using this at the same time). Also, there is no nice
         way to join these two views (there is a n x m relationship between these two views). For instance, the costing calendar is used in the accounting costing
         view, and the general ledger calendar is used in the GMF_PERIOD_BALANCES table.
    2. Abandon a two or three view approach. Create an uber view which encapsulates the onhand quantity, pegging, standard costing and item detail information.
         pros: A more simpler end user experience which should then allow for the totalling to work.
         cons: Very easy for an end user to obtain a result set which is part of a cartesian product (e.g. multiple general ledger periods are included in this workbook
         with multiple costing periods). Doubtful that this workbook would be refreshable.
    3. Fan trap solution which would be some variation of onhand view being joined to an item details folder which is joined to the pegging details updated.
         pros: Without too much work, I am able to get this to work, except totaling.
         cons: Totaling.
         Please let me know what your thoughts are regarding the best approach.
         Thanks,
         Patrick

    Hi,
    Where you have complex joins I would always go for a single view. It keeps Discoverer simple and allows you to concentrate performance effort building the view. Generally you can build in conditions to stop a cartesian product.

  • Transporter - Basic installation and connection questions

    We have never used or installed the Transporter before.  We are currently using Tidal 5.3x and are upgrading a sandbox environment to 6.2.  I have looked at all the transporter documentation I can find and am still missing some very basic questions - plus I cannot get the "help" option in transporter to work.
    WHERE do you install the Transporter and why?  CM Server?  Master Server?  Desktop?  If it is on a server, then does the user that runs it need to remote the server in order to user transporter?
    I have attempted to install on each of the above, but cannot establish a connection.  When I click "test" I get error "Failed to Connect [Login failure with responseCode [404]]What should I be entering in each of the following Connections fields?  My comments indicate what I have assumed/attempted to enter and received the error above.
    Connection name  - just a given name to a connection? aka TESSandboxMaster
    Server Name  - what server?  master?  Is there a specific format this needs to be in?
    DSP/Plug in name - I found a dsp file on my CM Server named TES-6.0.dsp - should I put TES-6.0 here?
    User - network user that is a Super user in Tidal?  aka networkname\superuser?
    pwd - windows pwd for that user?
    Thank you for any help you can provide.

    Hi Patricia,
    1. The Transporter is installed on the Client Manager - the CM is essentially a web server to handle client requests, perform sacmd commands, and utility for transporting jobs from one environment to another. A Tidal user would have to be granted rights to Move Jobs to Production, and I believe Tidal user has to be able to sign on to the CM as well.
    2. I've reviewed an older copy of the transporter user guide 6.1 provides instructions on how to complete those fields:
    To create a connection: (on page 32)
     In the Connection Name field, enter the name for the connection file.
    In the Server Name field, enter the name of the Client Manager machine.
    In the DSP/Plugin Name field, enter the master instance name.
    The master instance name is the TES DSP or Plugin name. This is displayed from the Web UI in the Master Status pane.
    In the Server Port field, enter the listening Web Service port used by the Tidal Web Client. The default is 8080 for non-secured connections and 8443 for secured connections.
    In the User and Password fields, enter a valid Enterprise Scheduler user name and password.
    Select the Secure HTTP option if you want to connect securely through the HTTPS protocol.
    This option is enabled only if Transporter has been configured for secure
    connections. Figure 8 is an example of Transporter not configured for secure
    connections.

  • Oracle BAM 11g - Deployments and development questions

    Hi!
    I have few questions related to Oracle BAM 11g developement and deployment processes. We are going to use that together with Oracle SOA Suite 11g ( BPEL / BPM processes), and now my questions are related to development phase:
    1. If we have two or more Oracle BAM developers with their own Oracle BAM server instances, and we would like to share our development work, should/can we you same database repository to share the reports, data objects?
    2. How we can copy Oracle BAM Data Objects, Reports etc from one environment (dev) to other environments (test, accept test, integration test, production) ? In software deployment projects (like Spring or Grails web-projects) we have used version control system and CI to build packages to different environments etc. How is the Oracle BAM deployment process actually "planned to be" since it uses its database repository to store objects and reports ?
    3. The Oracle BAM itself has nice reports etc (Oracle BAM Client) that can be used using IE browser. How if we have to show/include those reports from Oracle WebCenter Spaces ? Is it possible and how?

    Hi,
    Were you able to find the answer to your questions? Especially the one, showing BAM reports in Webcenter Spaces?

  • I lost my Basic module in Develop mode...HELP!

    While letting someone borrow my lightroom, I lost my Basic module in the Develop mode.  I am LOST without it.  How can I get it back?  Reinstall?  Time Machine from past?  Will I lose pics if I do that?

    Right click any panel header onthe right hand side of the interface, and place a check mark next to "Basic."
    Or, press Ctrl-1 (Windows) or Cmd-1 (Mac).
    There's also a menu command to view the panel, but I can't remember it and I don't have LR in front of me right now.

  • Basic AV Receiver/FIOS Questions

    OK, I know this is basic stuff for most of you, but bear with me as I'm not the tech wizard I always hoped I would be.
    I currently have FIOS, A Blu-Ray Player, and a game system connected to my HDTV with individual HDMI Cables going through an automatic switch (whatever device I power on is the what shows up on the TV) - the output of the switch goes to the TVs HDMI input (older tv only has 1 HDMI In connection (don't laugh))
    I am upgrading my AV receiver to one that offers 4 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output as well as the usual connections.
    Here are the questions:
    1.  If I connect FIOS to one of the HDMI inputs on the receiver and then the HDMI out from the receiver to the TV - does this mean I must turn on the AV Receiver in order to watch TV?  Also, can I use the TV speakers in those instances when surround sound is not needed.
    2.  If I connect the other components to HDMI inputs on the receiver, I assume I would have to rever to manually switching between sources thourgh the receiver as opposed to the automatic switching I now get from the 3 way switch.
    3.  If I connect the FIOS box directly to the TV, how can I then take advantage of the surround capabilities of the receiver?
    I'm sure I'm overlooking some other questions, but I would appreciate any advice I can get.
    Thanks

    1a - Yes, you receiver would have to be on to watch TV.
    1b - Depends on your AVR. You may have to switch the audio from the AVR to the TV.
    2. Yes. To alleviate this, you may want to look at universal remote, which would set the inputs for you. Logitech's Harmony remotes would work, series 500 and higher.
    3- If you TV has an optical out, you could run a digital cable from the Audio Out of the TV to the AVR. This should allow you to take advantage of Dolby Digital 5.1.
    When I had the Verizon STB's, I connected the component cables out to the TV and the HDMI to my AVR. That way, I was able to watch TV w/o surround as needed, and gave me the ability to use the Surround Sound when I wanted. The only issue for me was that the STB's would lose their SD Override setting, and cause SD programming to stretch.

  • Sql developer: question about exporting data

    Hi,
    we're recently working with sql-developer. i've got a question about how we can export query results to txt/csv files for use in other applications.
    First a problem: if we start a query that looks like this:
    select * from
    select * from A where start_date = &date
    ) a,
    select * from B where start_date = &date
    ) b
    where a.name = b.name
    Sql-developer asks twice to input a value for the variable 'date', although it's the same variable and it's supposed to have the same value.
    We solve this by making a script:
    first we define the variable, then we put the query.
    When we start the script, the query runs ok and sql developer asks to input the value for the variable once.
    But now the result of the query is shown in the script output. The script output seems to be limited in number of lines and difficult to export.
    So my question is: what's the best way to export query results to txt/csv files, avoiding the problem mentioned above?
    i hope there is a solution where we can use a single query or script.
    Thanks in advance!

    Using bind variables like ":date" should solve the problem of being asked twice for the same thing.
    Executing the query normally (F9), gives you the export options you require through the context menu inside the Results grid.

    K.

  • SQL Developer question

    Hi Folks
    I am using SQL Developer tool. I have a procedure with compilation errors so i can see that procedure with red X mark in SQL Developer tool.
    When am clicking on the procedure it is going to the editor there i can see "code"."grants","dependencies","references","details","profiles" tabs
    But i can't able to see "Errors" tab in the editor. And main thing is i didnt see any red lines in the editor for the invalid procedure
    And when i recompiled that procedure it got recompiled successfully and that red x mark is vanished.
    Here my question is the "Errors" tab is only appears when the procedure/function/package has errors and surprisingly i didnt see any red lines in the editor for invalid procedure (may be my proc has no errors).
    ps: i have asked this question in sql developer forum but i posted here as you may work on this

  • Basic Security & form printing questions.

    Hi, I am not an Oracle Forms developer yet, just gathering info, but I have 2 probably simple questions for you forms experts out there that maybe you can help me with.
    Lets say that this new application will have 10 users and I create a main menu with 5 categories. Can forms allow me to give 4 users read/viewable rights to, lets say 3 categories,instead of all 5 categories? Bsically I just need to know if it offers some kind of security that I can create for each individual user.
    The next question is if I create 10 forms that is supposed to 'retrieve' data, but I need to also have these 10 forms print out 'without' the data. Do I need to create 20 forms, or is 10 sufficient and oracle would allow me to print the forms out either with or without data.
    Thank you in advance
    null

    There is menu-level security, meaning that only users that have certain roles may execute certain menu choices.
    There's no special security at form level, apart from the database level security.
    If a database user does not have insert, update & delete priviledges on a datablock in the form (but has the select priviledge), then, he won't be able to change the data in that block using the form, and if he'd try to, he'd get an error when trying to commit the changes.
    Well, you may use set_block_property(your_block, update_allowed, property_true) or set_block_property(your_block, update_allowed, property_true) in the when new-form-instance trigger to make the form behave as you will when opened by a given database user.

  • Three tier architecture questions

    Hello,
    My question is in regards to using Toplink in a three tier architecture situation. If I wish to send an object A which has a collection of Bs and B has a collection of C ( A nested object structure with two or more levels of indirection). Is the best solution to have the named query be part of a unit of work so that even if on the client side somebody unknowingly were to make the modification to one of the entity objects ( a POJO) the shared session cache would not be affected ?
    This is assuming the client side HTTP layer and the RMI/EJB layer are on different JVMs.
    Some of the other suggestions I have heard is to retrieve it from the shared session cache directly and if in case I need to modify one or more of the objects do a named query lookup on that object alone and then proceed to register that object in a unit of work and then commit the changes.
    Also the indirection would have to be utilised before the data objects are sent to the Servlet layer I presume ?(That is if I do a a.getAllOfBObjects() on the servlet side I would get a nullpointer exception unless all of B were already instatiated on the server side). Also when the objects are sent back to the server do I do a registerObject on all the ones that have changed and then do a deepMergeClone() before the uow.commit() ?
    Thanks,
    Aswin.

    Aswin,
    If your client is remote to the EJB tier then all persistent entities are detached through serialization. In this architecture you do not need to worry about reading and modifying the shared instance as it never the one being changed on the client (due to serialization).
    Yes, you do need to ensure that all required indirect relationships are instantiated on the server prior to returning them from the EJB call.
    Yes, you do need to merge the changes of the detached instance when returned to the server. I would also recommend first doing a read for the entity being merged (by primary key) on the new UnitOfWork prior to the merge. This will handle the case where you are merging into a different node of the cluster then where you read as well as allowing you to check for the case where the entity no longer exists in the database (if the read returns null then the merge will result in an INSERT and this may not be desired).
    Here is an example test case that does this:
        public void test() throws Exception {
            Employee detachedEmp = getDeatchedEmployee("Jill", "May");
            assertNotNull(detachedEmp);
            // Remove the first phone number
            PhoneNumber phone = detachedEmp.getPhoneNumber("Work");
            assertNotNull("Employee does not have a Work Phone Number",
                          detachedEmp.getPhoneNumber("Work"));
            detachedEmp.removePhoneNumber(phone);
            UnitOfWork uow = session.acquireUnitOfWork();
            Employee empWC = (Employee) uow.readObject(detachedEmp);
            if (empWC == null) { // Deleted
                throw new RuntimeException("Could not update deleted employee: " + detachedEmp);
            uow.deepMergeClone(detachedEmp);
            uow.commit();
         * Return a detached Employee found by provided first name and last name.
         * Its phone number relationship is instantiated.
        public Employee getDeatchedEmployee(String firstName, String lastName) {
            ReadObjectQuery roq = new ReadObjectQuery(Employee.class);
            ExpressionBuilder builder = roq.getExpressionBuilder();
            roq.setSelectionCriteria((builder.get("firstName").equal(firstName)).and(builder.get("lastName").equal(lastName)));
            Employee employee = (Employee)session.executeQuery(roq);
            employee.getPhoneNumbers().size();
            return (Employee)SerializationHelper.serialize(employee);
        }One other note: In these types of application optimistic locking is very important. You should also make sure that the locking field(s) are mapped into the object and not stored only in the TopLink cache. This will ensure the locking semantics are maintained across the detachment to the client and the merge back.

  • Web-tier design question

    Hello,
    The web tier framework I'm working utilizes Struts, and I have a question about using interfaces in base action classes. We have created static utility wrapper methods for accessing different scopes and services. Now in our base action class we have wrapper methods which wrap calls to the static utility methods. Now my colleague suggested that we create an interface that defines these wrapper methods to be used in the base classes and implement this interface in all our web-tier base classes i.e. BaseAction, BaseFilter, BaseTilesAction.
    Is this overkill? I don't see the advantage because we're never instantiating these classes. However, we would be placing a rule that these classes must contain certain functionality.
    Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Does it make sense to wrap calls to utility methods which are static?Depends - what does that accomplish? Fewer lines of code? Is there state involved in the calls (create object - set state - call method - get results)? If it accomplishes nothing concrete within the current requirements specification, refactor it later if you find a concrete reason to do so.
    There may be reasons to do the non-easy thing. Such as you are going to sell the classes and customers will subclass them. But if that isn't about to happen soon, try hard not to gold plate and complexify the code.
    How big is your application - how many servlets do you expect? How many concurrent developers (1, 2, 10, 100)?
