Basic Newbie Help

I am sorry but I have found the docs to be a little on the sparse side. I am a developer and it seems that the docs were written by a developer that knows the system. Having NEVER implemented a proxy server before I am having a dificult time making heads or tails of implementing filtering and templates. I know their concepts and I know regex very well. I dug around looking at the obj.conf file to see if I could see how what I was doing on the admin server translated to configuration.
When I go to the Filters page for the default proxy server what the heck do I choose / do? When I select a resource from the drop down list what are those exactly? The ones like "https://.*" look to me like a regulare expression that would go with an allow/deny or some other rule set. But its something I get to choose.
Then there is the Credit/Edit Filters section that creates filters. That seems pretty straightforward but I do not know how they relate (if they do) to the resource that is selected in the Resource Selection combo box.
I assume that when you create a filter you then select it from the ALLOW or DENY list and then apply it.
No matter what I do it doesn't work right and I get all denied or all allowed. Then ther eis a template. Besides being a list of URL's how does it releate to everything else on this page?
I know this is a free product but some more effort on the docs in this VERY IMPORTANT area would be nice.
If these topics have been covered in posts, blogs, or other please direct me to them so that I can read and learn ... if not could someone that knows this aspect of Sun Proxy Server take 5 or 10 minutes and explain how these things interrelate so that I at least know how the user interface is supposed to be used.
thanks
Doug

Rahul, thanks for the reply.
In order for me to be able to manually modify the obj.conf file I need to know a few basics rules first. I would actually prefer to create the url files by hand as you suggest but unless I know where things go then it will be a lot of trial and error. I will look at the examples folder for help as well. But I have a few simple questions to get me started. These questions are based on the "Filters" tab for the proxy instance.
1) At the moment I am not doing NSAPI filters (well I don't know if I am I don't know what they are yet) I am only creating regex filters though the UI at the moment. Are those NSAPI filters?
2) Under Resource selection, there is a drop down list of existing resources and one called the entire server. I assume that the filters you create and operate upon are somehow linked with this resource, is that correct?. For now I am just trying the "entire server" resource but if I were to also create a filter for say the https:// resource which resource would rule the day. Example, if I say that www.google.com is allowed for the entire server but under the http:// resource I saw it is not allowed which resource rule takes precedense?
3) The Create and Edit filters area is self explanatory however I do not see how (through the UI) to delete a filter or disassociate it from the resource "entire server"
4) Under Operate Filters there are two drop downs for Allow and Deny. I assume again that this will set a url list to either be allowed or denied for the resource selected like "the entire server"
According to the admin UI I have a whitelist url file set for allow and NONE set for deny. The whitelist url contains the following (grabbed from the WhiteList.url file)
.*://www\.google\.com/.*
I have also tried .*://www\\.google\\.com/.*
Unless my regex is wrong I should be able to get out right? I get the following browser message:
This URL is not allowed to be proxied.
What I find odd is that even though I have selected the WhiteList for allow and NONE for deny the obj.conf file still has entries for two other url file filters I created the other day (dougs and dougs-deny) Whay are they still there ?
Here is my obj.conf.

  • Basic script help for a newbie?!?!

    Need help with a basic script, I need to display 5 input fields in a single dynamic field. And i need them to have a certain order of display, ie: input 1 is displayed on line 1, 2 on the next line, etc. any help would be appreciated
    I have been trying various scripts but i either make the second input field replace the first one, or i cant get the vars to populate the field with a button.. Im kinda lost.

    Show what you have tried so far that give you the results where you either replace fields or can't get vars to populate them with a button.

  • Newbie basic AS help?

    I have created a webpage with an "outro animation" for one of
    my sections that I wanna use no matter
    where you are going next. In other words I want this to play
    before jumping to one of the other sections no matter which section
    you choose So I wonder if there is an actionscript to use for this
    that is not to advanced.
    i.e. If you click on the button to go to "section 4" then the
    actionscript could be gotoAndPlay("_outro") then
    gotoAndPlay("_section4")
    Im totally new to actionscript so no advanced programming
    please :)
    Thx for listening/ AquaStealth

    if your swf is all contained on the main timeline, then the
    most basic way to code that would be to add code to the last frame
    of each outro and code to your buttons.

  • Newbie help with basic setup - WRK54G

    === Linksys WRK54G v2 router
    === WinXP Pro SP3
    I am not a networking person, and I need help setting up my router. I bought it new a bit over a year ago and installed it successfully, but it kept hosing up my connection so I took it off line and put it up. My wife now has a laptop and so I want to try this router again. It's powered on and connected to my DSL and my laptop, which is my main computer.
    Power light: ON
    WLAN light: ON
    1 light: ON
    Internet light: ON
    I have the CD's software on my hard drive and tried setting things up with the EasyLink_Connect.exe, PCConnect.exe, and even did the ELADownloadInstaller.exe, which downloaded some other installer (EasyLink Advisor?). None of them worked. They crapped out at the point where it detects the router and read cannot detect router.
    I read in the PDF manual that the router settings can be reset to defaults and so I did and tried again. No joy. I also tried unplugging too without results.
    So, what do I do now to get this thing working?
    Help is much appreciated.

    If you face any further problems you should try this -
    Hard reset your router and then re-configure it...
    Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds...Release the reset button...Unplug the power cable from your router, wait for 30 seconds and re-connect the power cable...Now re-configure your router...

  • Newbie help me obi wans: ...coded locked by template or translator

    Hi Folks,
    I'm such a newbie to DW   I've been using it for a few years actually, but in a very basic sense.
    I dloaded a template, added some graphics, made some buttons etc.. and of course text, but when it comes to coding,
    I've only figure out how to add spaces  lol
    I'm trying to add a flash video to my samples page.  I can add images, but every time I add the .flv, I receive the subject message.
    So here are 2 issues:
    1. I don't know if this related to #2, but I can't erase the 3rd column...or even use it. it's locked - I see a circle with a line through it.  The template I bought did say it was 3 columns, but I don't understand why I can't touch it.  I've attached a tiff of what it looks like right now.
    2. as the subject says "changing code is locked by the template is locked a template or translator" is giving me grief.
    I've reviewed the previous posts on the subject, but I'm afraid my newbie-ness has left me not knowing what to do.  ie. I can't find a time/date to change...I see the <head> and <script>, but they're greyed out on the one page I'm trying to edit.  They're not greyed out on the template page however.
    I also tried saving my .dwt as a new template, but that didn't work either.
    Here is code for my Samples page.  I'll post the code for the template page under that.

    thanks for the quick reply!
    I found the 2 things to change, but when I go back to my page...everything is gone!  eek
    (fear no panic - I did back up my website prior to making any changes
    (file attached).
    it looks like there is only 1 column instead of 3 sections. I was hoping to lose just the one on the right.
    here is the new code from my Samples page (not the template)  I"ll post that below.

  • Newbie Help: Java Object to create an image

    Hi there.
    I'm trying to create a Java class that I can call from Coldfusion that will build a GIF file based on parameters.
    The idea is, the Java object opens a "background" gif file and then writes some text onto it and saves the whole thing out as a GIF.
    Bearing in mind this class will be used directly by Coldfusion, and so isn't an applet or an application...can anyone tell me what is wrong with this code as I get a null pointer exception on the getGraphics() line:
    // Methods available to Coldfusion
    public String CreateOverlay( String imageFile, String outPath, String overlayText, int x, int y, String fontFace, int PointSize)
    try{
    Toolkit tk = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit();
    Image im = tk.getImage(imageFile);
    Gif89Encoder enc = new Gif89Encoder();
    OutputStream out = new BufferedOutputStream(
    new FileOutputStream(outPath)
    Image newimg = createImage(100,50);
    ***** Graphics g = newimg.getGraphics();
    g.drawImage(im, 0, 0, 100, 50, this);
    g.drawLine(0,0,50,50);
    enc.addFrame( newimg );
    enc.encode(out);
    out.close();
    catch (Exception e) {
    System.out.println("Error...");
    e.printStackTrace();
    return "Dont care at the moment";
    Any help to this troubled newbie would be appreciated.

    Hi Kurt,
    You must call "setVisible(true)" on your Frame before
    creating the image.But, the thing is, this object doesnt have (or need) a GUI. Its just an object that sits on the server and its methods are called to generate an image on disk. Basically what happens is Coldfusion receives information from a user and it loads the java object, calls a method which then generates a new GIF file that is made up of a simple button background and some text (entered by the user)....it then returns the name of this file to Coldfusion and Coldfusion stores it in a database for later retrieval.
    In simple terms:
    COLDFUSION===========
    1. Creates an instance of the JAVA Object
    2. Call the generateGif method passing an image filename and some text eg:
    newFile=c.GenerateGif( "simplebutton.gif", "Some text for button");
    JAVA OBJECT========= (GenerateGif method)
    1. Load the GIF simplebutton.gif
    2. Create a new blank image
    3. Draw the loaded GIF onto the blank one
    4. Write the Text ("some text for button") onto the image
    5. Take the image and encode it to GIF format
    6. Write this GIF to disk
    7. Return the filename of the new GIF image just created
    8. Finish
    As you can see, I dont want or need a GUI.....
    Is this possible ?
    Thanks in Advance,
    Tony Johnson

  • Processing Sent Mail - newbie help

    Hi
    I am an Applescript newbie who needs some help please.
    I would like to have an applescript which runs my Mail rules against the content of my sent mailbox. It needs to use Apple's logic system as I am a MailTags user.
    I am happy to do it through the GUI or some clever programming.
    All I have managed to (not) achieve through cut-and-paste of other people's scripts in this forum is as follows:
    tell application "Mail"
    set theMessages to (messages of sent mailbox)
    perform mail action with messages theMessages
    repeat with thisMessage in theMessages
    --set theAddress to address of to recipients of thisMessage
    --repeat with i in theAddress
    try
    --if (i contains "[email protected]") then delete thisMessage
    end try
    --end repeat
    end repeat
    end tell
    I know that at best this has the right basic structure but I have been staring at the Mail dictionary for too long and still can't figure it out.
    Any/all help gratefully received.
    Thanks a bunch in advance
    Graeme
    PowerBook G4 100Gb; iPod Photo 60Gb; iMac @ home   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    For anyone who is interested:
    I solved the problem by using a variant of the script I showed above:
    <pre class=command>tell application "Mail"
    activate
    tell application "System Events"
    tell process "Mail" to keystroke "4" using command down
    tell process "Mail" to keystroke "A" using command down
    tell process "Mail" to keystroke "L" using command down & option down
    end tell
    end tell</pre>
    Then I downloaded a system preference pane called Do Something When which is set to launch my script every time Mail opens - if you set it to launch when Mail closes the script re-opens Mail and you get caught in a Mail-quit loop.
    Another way of doing it would have been to get the script to run every time a message comes in. The problem is that with my rather pathetic script, I am using UI calls so at the end of the script Mail is left showing the Sent mailboxes, not where you started with.
    If anyone can help me to improve this situation, I will be very grateful.

  • Some basic questions: Help defining Real World Classes

    I am trying to write a small applet using proper OO concempts and Java technique and I'm confused on the proper way to do this. I think I know several ways that work and have all the peices I need such as JMail and JDBC drivers, but would appreciate help on understanding how to properly structure my classes and objects.
    The application will simply do the following: I have a database table that receives a new entry when a truck is late for its delivery. When this new record is created, I need to send an email to the driver manager who will then decide (via a jsp page) whether the customer should receive an email about the late delivery. For each truck, there will only be one driver manager and one client to be notified.
    What I'm confused about is what classes and objects to create (and why). My first thought is to create a LateTruck class, a DriverManager class and a Customer class and have the LateTruck class call up the DriverManager to send an email then have the JSP page reinstantiate the LateTruck and instantiate the Customer class to send the email to the client.
    If I do it this way, is there a proper way to send the email? Do I send the email as a method in LateTruck which gets the email address from DriverManager such as
    LateTruck.Order1234.SendEmail(DriverManager.JoeBlow.Email)
    or do I use LateTruck to write the email message which I then pass to DriverManager such as
    DriverManager.JoeBlow.SendEmail(message)
    Should I even break up the applet into three classes and objects? Since each LateTruck only needs one DriverManager and one Client, is the proper way to do this to create only one class called LateTruck which has DriverManager, DriverManagerEmail, ClientName and ClientEmail all as properties of LateTruck?
    Thanks for any help in understanding the basics here.

    Is that the story of Static Write and the Seven Classes and the evil stepmother Wilma Gates who kept asking "Mirror Site, Mirror Site on the web, who's got the buggiest InterDev?

  • Java newbie help (type casting, 64bit unsigned Long)

    Hi I am java newbie and need help on my project. I have a few questions. Can you put strings in a hashtable and test for their being their with the appropriate hashtable method? I want to test for equal strings, not the same object. Second question can you use all 64 bits of an unsigned long? java doesn't seem to allow this. Any packages that do?
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Try casting it to Long instead of long. Long (capital L) is an Object, while long (lower case l) is not. You may also check to make sure the value isn't null. I would have thought that autoboxing would have worked here unless the value was null. But I am no expert on autoboxing.
    Edit >> Checking for null ain't a bad idea but has nothing to do with the problem - this is a compile time problem. Sorry.
    Also>> This code should work:
    long cTime=(Long)session.getAttribute("creationtime");Edited by: stevejluke on Jul 1, 2008 11:00 AM

  • I am a NEwb, Help me

    I really want to start to learn how to program, and i wanted to make a script. So can someone point me inn the direction of a good tutorial on how to make scripts. All i really know how to do in programing is the basic TI-83 programming, i earned a couple hundered with that at school, ( i made programs that did math equations, i got very good at that)
    So, any help?

    I would say poke around the internet for some AppleScript tutorials. Apple's site probably provides some, plus there are the example scripts which should already be on your Mac.
    If you are looking for a book, the O'Reilly book AppleScript: The Definitive Guide by Matt Neuburg seems pretty decent.
    Also, if you are interested in scripting in general, you might practice your skills with web programming (JavaScript, PHP, ASP, et cetera), or learning a little shell scripting might be useful, too.
    There are really a lot of options, but those might be some good places to start.

  • Newbie HELP-Rectangle Box

    I'm new to InDesign.  The guy who used to take care of our company phone book in InDesign left.  I know very little about this software.  It's been days of trial and error, but am making progress.  I've got the phone book to almost where I want it (I think), but can not figure out how to get rid of the rectangle box outline around text.  I created the box by selecting the rectangle icon off the toolbar on the left, however I don't want the outline around the text I put in it.  Any help would be so greatly appreciated.  I'm an AS400 systems admin, not a graphic designer, so learning this stuff has been like learning another language

    Choose View > Hide Frame Edges. Does the outline go away? If there's still an outline (called a "stroke" in InDesign) around the frame, select the frame and use the Stroke panel to set the Weight back to 0. If you need to do this for a bunch of frames, your work will go faster if you use object styles.
    It sounds like you used the Rectangle tool to drag an object, and then you inserted text into that object. That's fine, but you should just use the Type tool to create text frames. You'll end up saving yourself some time in the long run by watching a few basic videos. See the Getting Started in InDesign Help topic.

  • Newbie help on Queries

    I just set up my first query page using two tables (categories and properties) and I set up a simplistic page here just to see if the data loads:
    http://209.62.4.98/~parishpr/query1.php
    It does, but it loads all the entries of the properties table. I just want it to display one of the three categories (One Bedroom, Two Bedroom, Three Bedroom) and I thought just adding ?id=1 would do something like that but it didn't change anything. I set up a query with a join using ADDT connecting the category row from the properties table to the id row of the categories table. So why am I getting all the data instead of just one of the rows from the categories table? Can anyone help an ADDT/PHP newbie?

    Oops, sorry,
    I forgot to enclose my addition in single apostrophes -- that should be:
    SELECT * FROM properties WHERE category=123456789 AND category = '".$_GET['category']."' ORDER BY property
    Should I have done something differently?
    yes, the "detail2properties" query should have rather become somewhat enhanced to filter against a certain URL variable, but this requirement probably wasn´t clear at the time you implemented the Nested Repeat Region wizard.
    The demo you were using apparently didn´t cover this particular scenario -- but when trying to create a "real world" application, the specific requirements are usually different from any tutorial.
    However, ADDT actually provides two Nested Repeat Region "flavors" -- a) the Wizard that´s doing everything for you without having to provide the recordsets, and b) the Nested Repeat Region *server behavior* which can be applied to existing recordsets. I´m not sure which one you actually used, but I guess it´s the Wizard, which can be a little inflexible when it comes to the generated recordsets.
    You think in future versions of Dreamweaver that text should be selectable?
    no clue, I´m not involved in developing DW ;-) However, please feel free to file a feature request.
    Cheers,

  • Newbie help-clips & scenes

    I am having a hard time learning action script. I want to
    have a movie clip that was pulled from the library with
    "attach_movie", but once it is done I need it to go to another
    scene. Is this something simple, or am I asking for a lot? I have
    been through a ton of tutorials just to figure out the attach movie
    action, but the second part of the problem is very perplexing to a
    newbie like myself. Any help or a site that has a tutorial would be
    greatly appreciated.

    When you say movie clip, are you reffering to the last frame
    of the clip that is being pulled from the library, or the scene
    that the button resides in. I tried adding it to the last frame of
    the library clip, but it doesnt do anything. Any ideas?

  • Doubts in XI basics..help me with some practical examples

    hi friends,
              I am new to SAP XI have some basic doubts. Answer my questions with some practical examples.
      1. what is meant by "Business System" and what is difference between client,customer,Business partner,3rd party
      2.If a small company already using some systems like Oracle or peopleSoft,if it wants to use SAP products then what steps it has to follow.
    3. SAP system means a SERVER?
    4.SAPWebAs means a server software?
    5.R/3 system comes under SAP system?
    6.XI is also one of the SAP  module..how it relates to other modules.
    7.In one organization which is using SAP modules,each module will be load in separate servers?
    8.PO(purchase order) means just looks like one HTML file..customer will fill the form and give it.like this,Combination of many files like this is one SAP module.Is it right assumption..?if so,then what is speciality SAP?
       I have an theoretical knowledge about IR and ID and SLD.what are general business transactions happens in any business ?(like who will send cotation,PO)  give some practical example for what actually happens in business?..who will do what?and what XI will do?

    Hi Murali,
    <u><b> 1.Business System</b></u>
      Business systems are logical systems that function as senders or receivers  within the SAP Exchange Infrastructure(XI).
    Before starting with any XI interface,the Business systems involved has to be configured in SLD(The SLD acts as the central information provider for all installed system components in your system landscape.)
    business system and technical system in XI
    <u><b>2.Third Party</b></u>
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/09/6beb170d324216aaf1fe2feb8ed374/frameset.htm
    eg.For the SAP system a  Bank would be a third-party which would be involved in interfaces involving exchange of data(Bill Payment by customer).
    <u><b>3.XI(Exchange Infrastructure)</b></u>
      It enables you to connect systems from different vendors (non-SAP and SAP) in different versions and implemented in different programming languages (Java, ABAP, and so on) to each other.
    Eg.If an interface involves Purchase Order sent from SAP system to the vendor(Non-SAP system)then,the vendor might expect a file.But the Data is in the IDOC(intermediate document) form with the SAP system.Here XI does the work of mapping the IDOC fields and the File fields and sends it to the vendor in the form of a file.
    In short,always the scene is Sender-XI-Receiver.
    The Sender and the Receiver depends upon the Business you are dealing with.
    <u><b>4.Business Partner</b></u>
    A person, organization, group of persons, or group of organizations in which a company has a business interest.
    This can also be a person, organization or group within this company.
    Examples:
    Mrs. Lisa Miller
    Maier Electricals Inc.
